Mikey
I want to connect a 360 and my PC to one HD TV, and apparently, these work. Has any one here ever used them at all? If so, are they any good?
Marshmellow
They've worked for me in the past but they degrade the quality. They did for me anyways.
Mikey
They've worked for me in the past but they degrade the quality. They did for me anyways. It's a splitter cable, not a box. I hope that means it won't make the quality noticibly worse.
Marshmellow
I'm talking about a splitter cable... Well you'll just notice the screen gets noticibly darker...
Mikey
Using it right now. It's made the quality slightly worse. Shame. I'll probably use it anyway.
McPhee
Splitter boxes are better. The cable just splits the signal whereas the boxes amplify and clean the signal. A decent splitter box can produce a picture close to the quality of the original image
Mikey
Yeah, but how expensive are they man?
Marshmellow
Expensive enough to not really be worth it.
McPhee
Can get reasonably good ones for about £50 although as 'mellow says it probably ain't worth it. Why not just use component?
Mikey
Because it makes the graphics look as jaggy as a PS1 game when I do.
Shift
I'm having the same trouble. My Wii is connected via component and my PC is connected via VGA, so at the moment my 360 isnt plugged in. I thought a fix for this would be to hook my PC up via HDMI (DVI to HDMI) but that didnt work as i suffered from overscan, and nvidia dont support underscanning, yet, or so I've read. Ive seen a component switch, but it looks cheap so i suspect that the quality of it wont be all that good. Would a KVM switch do the trick? Failing that ill buy a VGA cable for my 360 and just switch between my PC and 360, it will be a hell of a lot easier then swapping all those component leads. Marshmellow
Component Switchers are not expensive. Is the component Audio also hooked to the Tv? or something seperate? If it's hooked to something seperate then, you can simply use a regular composite switch. Just make sure to be consistant.
McPhee
Theres always a simple solution to this; stop hooking Wiis up by Component! RGB Scart works brilliantly and the improvement with component isn't that noticeable. The Wii hardly uses any of the available bandwidth with component whereas the 360 uses most of it, you're using you're available connections better by putting Wii through Scart, 360 through Component and PC through VGA. I understand this is blasphemy on a Nintendo site but its the only setup that actually makes sense
Shift
I came to the conclusion that swapping the cables every once in awhile isnt life threatening. Unless i accidently wrap one around my neck, fall over and the cord gets stuck on a door handle and i strangle myself to death.... Im scared.
