Constant Mii Codes!?

More proof of constant Mii codes

This is something we pretty much knew already, but it’s nice to have an official confirmation. A portion of Gamers interview with Justin Dowdeswell from Next Level Games…

G: So how does getting online work?

NLG: In the menu, there’s a spcial NWFC icon. You can see a random list of players from your continent, or play with your friends. Players will be ranked by stars, and the max number of players is four. Only two Wiis can be connected (excuse is to avoid lag), so to play with four you need two people on each Wii.

G: Can you play against people from all across the world?

NLG: Parties are limited to regions corresponding to continents. This limits connection problems caused by distance and you’ll still have plenty of people to play with. Regions are: USA, EU, Japan, AUS. Rankings are also region-specific.

G: And the Mii code, how’s that work?

NLG: Each Mii generates a Mii code that remains constant. This code will be used for all online titles in the future.

I think some people might be taking this the wrong way. I think he means that once you enter a friends mii code for one game, that you will not have to enter that code again for any other game as the code is constant. Also, I'm pretty sure he's just talking about Mario Strikers for all the other stuff, but I can see a similar strategy for other games.

That's truly appalling. No cross region gameplay? I'll stick to my 360.
No cross region for Strikers, due to lag issues not necessarily for all titles.

They always said you can play with a person overseas though, if you have her friend code added, just not advised.

Random games will never pick gamers from other continents though.

Wait, so you can play with someone in another region provided it's someone you've added with friend codes?

Supposedly yes, apart from the fact that the game is not out in other regions just yet.

But I've heard/seen it written and spoken in interviews/articles/previews/reviews more than once already.

EDIT:

The game will use the usual Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection "Friend code" system, and will also offer random matches. These will be region-locked though, so you won't ever be randomly paired with an opponent in Australia, for example.

However, you will be able to play against gamers in other regions if you have their friend code, meaning that there won't be anything to stop you smacking the Aussies around when the game arrives on 25th May if you already know them.

Hopefully you can manage your codes in the mii channel before the end of the year.

And hopefully your friend list is not limited by 30 like the ds games, I want a minimum of 100 friend codes per game friend list.

Although not as good as usernames which helps you create more of an online identity, this is still great news if true!

I'd rather have a code, and my own name of choice appearing on every screen than be called "Cube5035034503840534" on everyone's screen.

Well love being right! I've been saying this would happen for months!

So modest. :heh:

If this does turn out to be the case, then it'll be awesome. :) When the Miis actually got revealed, my first thought was that they would "be" the gamer in-game/house the code, if that makes sense. Like an online persona.

I know I just love it though! I did say this ages ago, think it is me and Cube who have been championing this idea for so long....

I don't know why people are still moaning, this is great idea! Maybe I'm just used to not being lazy with my online, being a PC gamer most of my life  Well done for willing this into existance flameboy/Cube ;)

I heard someone saying that they expect a new stats/online Mii channel, which would also be great, and probably not too hard to implement.
