UK has the worst children

Our education is a load of horse shit.

People aren't taught a subject anymore they're taught to pass exams to get schools high on league tables to get more funding whilst we live in the most PC society on this Earth.

Exactly...which is why exams get easier.

Also, the way the system is designed, all schools do is teach you how to pass exams. It doesn't do anything about community or social upbringing. Not so much needed at A level or even GCSE stage, but certainly should be lower down in schools. Afterall, as far as I'm aware, that's the reason why schools and an education system exist.

And also, does, or did you're school do anything about anti-social behaviour within school? IMO, school should really have a no tolerance policy on things like bullying, vandalism etc.

Every school I've been in has a zero-tolerance policy on bullying and vandalism.

It is mandatory in England and Wales (and probably Scotland- I just haven't seen their National Curriculum) that pupils receive an education that encompasses personal, social and health education. Citizenship education is also a requirement, and in England this is taught as a discrete subject in its own right.

Schools are not exam factories. This is a cultural/social issue far more than a educational issue. The problem I have seen is parents shirking their responsibilities, and kids suffering for it.

Obviously my school hasn't been told this.

P.S. By bashing the Conservatives I assume you're Tony Blair's bum bandit or something. Why don't you go give all of the money YOU earned to the people who didn't:indeed:

4. It's hilarious how Labour are saying that these findings are out of date :wtf::laughing::

Haha, I love how you went from a rational adult debate to childish humour. If you must know - no I'm not.

A lot of people really don't realise how lucky they are. We get free education which is a damn sight better than wnat a lot of countries get. Just count yourselves lucky.

I really don't care about how they made this report. I think the conclusions are unsafe, to say the least. I went to a state hugh school and college and now I'm enjoying Uni - doing one of the most rewarding and best courses around. Viva la Labour! :D

Schools are exam factories, as you put it, the only reason they do all that other stuff is because they have to. We're not slagging them off for being exam factories anyway; that's all they ever have been, but it's that schools only teach as much as they have to as exams are easy compared to what they used to be.

And yes, parents are a problem.

I REALLY don't get how what I said was childish....I was mearly putting across that Labour suck more than the Tories as you seemed to be creaming yourself over them.

Well good for you Mr. 'Smart'...now get off your high horse and start worrying about the country that is no longer Great.

(Oh...and state Education's not really 'free')

In theory, we should have personal, social and health education, but schools, or at least my school, seem to neglect it, and only have one worthless PSE lesson every fortnight to get around any law involving it.

And I'm not convinced that Schools are not just exam factories because of the way the system is designed. The best students are largely measured on A-level results and university placing is mainly based on grades at A2, therefore, like I mentioned in my other post, there is too much pressure to succeed, so instead of teaching, students are just given a bunch of facts to revise at the end of the year. This is basically what most of the school time is spent doing.

The countries great enough. Its just clouded behind the bad things that make up the minority. Free education, free healthcare etc etc.. blah blah.

I quite like my high horse, thanks. The oppotunity is there for everyone if they want to take it. Its a shame some don't.

People, your country is a great place to live, most of Europe is. From what I can gather from this forum the problem is not the education system, but rather the education that parents give to children, school can't teach you everything and it shouldn't.

Anyway, I haven't read the full report (and I won't), but it sounds rather ambiguous and the way its given is a bit sensationalist.

People seem to forget (or are simply too young to remember) how much worse off we were under the Tory scum. Blair's a dick but compared to Cameron and his bunch he might as well be Jesus Christ II. We've come a long way since the dark days of Thatcher, you need to give Labour credit for that in spite of their failings (Is that hag not dead yet by the way, she's in my death pool every year and always disappoints)

Mine too.

Chinese have the most intelligent kids in the world, with India following not-to-close behind. Isn't it funny how poorer countries have smarter kids?

Chinese kids have to go to school early and clean it before they start their lessons rather than having hired cleaning staff (or at least some of them do or used to - the kids in a documentary I saw about china a while back did, anyway). If you tried to get British kids to do that there'd be a riot...

Although China in general isn't exactly a great model of how to run a society, I have to admit. Dunno if you'd call China poor anymore though.

China has a lot of poverty, so is therefore quite 'poor'. It is more to the point of 'power' than 'wealth' where China is concerned. Still, soon india will have more people than China and be the most powerful country in Asia. Even more so than Japan.

India won't have more people than China. The country is too small to support that amount of people. They are overcrowded now and living in poverty.

The countries youth's behaviour is awful, and theres good reason for that, theres nothing to fear.

You get locked up for 4 years and your sorted, no bills, activites you'd usually have to pay for, the only downside is being restrained to a certain area. Any body remember that huge fiasco the papers created last year? They took an ex-prison officer from america, toured him through our prison system and he was physically ill and described them as a holiday camp.

You're probably better off in prison now, oh wait, there nearly full. It seems the worst now is getting fined or tagged, and you can easily work yourself around them with more criminal activity.

And why does all this behaviour start in the first place? Schools. Schools are the harshest place for punishment for youth, and I understand. You'l get punished for petty things, they wont make an effort to help you, they'l just condemn you, move you to a place where you have no friends and then you'l just think whats the fucking point, and go completely against the rules of society.

Education I cant moan about, i do agree that education here is very good. But in schools is were the behaviour problem starts. They think you'l learn by moving you to a place with all the trouble makers, which is completely retarded as you'l socialise and learn from these and create anti-social groups, instead of taking the smart option of moving you to a group which you may try to blend in with.

This place has the worst children, its all dog eat dog, all mugging, all violence related here. Sure, its every were, i've been to 4 different countries and i've seen it all, but this place its just too common.

This place isnt going to change, the money's invested elsewhere instead of improving childrens lives aside from education.

Why are you all getting up in arms over a fucking reports that analyses non-quantative bullshit data. You know what that forms? A bullshit analysis.

Let's have a look:

Try and put standardised figures to that. You can't.

Its all aimed at Labour bashing by Tory *****. If you don't like this country then fuck off - go to Malta and live your perfect life. The UK has 2/5 of the top universities in the world. Our education system must be awful.

As a studying political scientist I sort of have to call you out on that one.

1) We can attach quantative data to those sort of abstract indicators. That's sort of our job. Here's Afghanistan according to Unicef.

2) Oxbridge isn't representative of British education (obv.)

Okay...Would you prefer I called you Blair's bitch???

Well to be honest I don't think most people would like to think their better than anyone else.

Yes; she is, but I don't really get what you see as her doing wrong; the worste they did was privatise everything (A HUGE shitup, but still...).

I like Thacher to be honest; she was one of the most out of the real world MP/PMs we've had, but she was a hard nut, and didn't take any shit, she didn't care what people though of her and stuff....And she dealt with the war and it's objectors well:)

Cameron's a knob though and I'd much rather see Labour win this time round again to be honest, as I think who the PM is is very important, and it's not JUST the party, especially since there's only a thin line between the big two.

I do think they need to get tougher though, and start being dicks instead of pussies.

You're probably going to want to go a colleiry town (try Grimethorpe) and shout that out loud.

Yep, EVERYONE up here hated Thatcher. Liberals, Conservatives, Right, Left, Up, Down, the other. She absolutely shafted the North East and a really, really hope they try to have a minutes silence for her at football grounds when she pegs it so they can see what the rank and file workers of britian thought of the ****.

I doubt people who weren't about in the 80s or who lived down south (or both) can comprehend why she is considered such a vile human being across much of the country.

Again, 'grats on the whole reducing your arguement into a childish one. Awesome, really.

And shut up with your fucking bollocks, the country provides so much for the people who want it. Its just that the ***** who don't piss it up for the rest of us. Labour is the best thing that's happened to this country in the past ten years ever since it was ballsed up by that rabid bitch. I hardly think I'm better than everyone here - I was simply stating that I have done fine with this country's state education system, thus meaning everyone can acheive the same should they so wish.

Well you're the one who said about batty boy or whatever it was...plus I still don't see how what I said was childish appart from that I suggested something due to something you said; oh no!!:indeed:

"the country provides so much for the people who want it"

What do you mean? :wtf:

Plus, as I said before, the whole Government's crap due to being complete pussies who give in to anyone screaming 'human rights' and such.

I maybe wouldn't mind as much if once I get a job and all that, a lot of my money wasn't being wasted on those who didn't earn it; and then spent on police with barely any power to try and put away/whatever a lot of those who we've paid for to live in the 1st place.

Then another load of the money spent pointlessly by councils to build 'crossing area things' (those bobbly paving slab things) to tell you where you should cross, and putting them on unbusy, unwide roads, or in the more dangerous places on busy roads...

I mean that anyone who wants a job can pretty much get a job. I mean that kids can be educated. People can be given healthcare for free. etc.

Anyway, its getting off topic. Let's try to get it back!

I want a job. I dont have one. I am getting a good education, though. Healthcare is not free, that is what taxes are for. Now could you stop arguing? That is my job, not yours.

Wow...People do pay for these 'free' things y'know; a lot of the time paying for people who don't deserve it.

You're right about "the country provides so much for the people who want it"

though... They give free money to the people that want it for sitting at home and bringing up kids who will most likely turn out to be 'yobs'.... Murderers getting bugger all sentences.... Pikies being 'allowed' to build without planning permission... Many Loopholes in many laws... Yep...the Govt. really works well.
