Konami's Cancelled Titles

Recommended Posts

Konami's support for both the PS3 and Wii appears to have taken a major hit. The release list in the latest issue of Famitsu reveals reveals that a number of next generation titles previously announced by the company are no longer in development.

Here's the full list of cancelled titles.

# Gradius Series (PS3)

# Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)

# New Action Game (PS3)

# New Role Playing Game (PS3)

# New Action Adventure Game 2 (Wii)

# Role Playing Game (Wii)

With those titles gone, Konami's Wii and PS3 lineup reads as follows:

# Pro Baseball Spirits Series (PS3)

# Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

# World Soccer Winning Eleven Series (PS3)

# Music Simulation Game (Wii)

# New Action Adventure Game (Wii)

# Sports Game -- Soccer (Wii)

# Sports Game -- Baseball (Wii)

So what happened? Sadly, the magazine provides no details. However, you'll notice that none of the the cancelled games have actual names yet. It's possible that Konami had intended to make the games, but decided to go in a different direction.

Most companies tinker with ideas which eventually all by the wayside, so perhaps that explains it.

# Sports Game -- Baseball (Wii)

This is the one that could have me really interested.

Love the sport and as much as I am enjoying the Baseball on Wii Sports , it really makes me long for a deeper more realistic take on the sport.

This could be good , however , I really wish Nintendo could resurrect their own canned 'Pennant Chase Baseball' that was headed for the Cube because that looked incredible.

As long as they eventually come up with another New Action Adventure Game and New RPG game for Wii it will be all good. Mybe not now, but in the future.

It doesn't sound like much was scrapped, considering they all seem to have generic names. Dissappointing for Wii though, it really needs to get some more 3rd party support/games in general.

That Gradius collection will probably end up on the VC/network hub which is why it's not worth putting onto disc based media. Compilations always do shite because stores overcharge.

Cancelled: # Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball (PS3)

Announced: # Sports Game -- Baseball (Wii)

Wii gets projects that are too risky for PS3 confirmed.

# Music Simulation Game (Wii) = DDR, Guitar Freaks or Drum Freaks.

# New Action Adventure Game (Wii) = Castlevania Wii? Kojima's outhouse project?

Pro Evolution?

reckon its more likely we will get an ISS branded game, just judging by the cubes treatment.

ISS would do me fine, tho a pro evo would be great.

Did they really have teams for all those titles? Specially the PS3 ones, if the titles were to be good the teams had to be huge.

The reason for the canceled titles could be lack of working force, so they could focus on the remaining titles. That, playing it safe or just funding cut's.

# Role Playing Game (Wii)

PORT? As it doesn't say NEW role playing game like PS3 cancelled game does. Probably the only serious loss of the two games canned for Wii. A game that would've slightly helped in easing the lack of RPGs...

So Suikoden was cancelled for the Wii then from what's been said in the past.

To me Konami only makes Metal Gear and Pro Evo. Oh and Elebits, suppose they can have some praise for that as well.

Jikkyou does really well in japan, putting it on the wii is just the logical move.

Don't know why I didn't make the connection (doh !).

With the graphic styling of the Jikkyou Powerful Pro Series this game is suited perfectly for the use of Miis.

Oh really? Third party use of Miis confirmed then.

Sims JP + Baseball. The Japanese love their baseball. With the western game cancelled for the GameCube (Pennant Chase) moved over to Wii, it might not even get released here.

We previously reported that Konami had cancelled a number of Wii and PS3 titles. However, today Konami went on record to deny these cancellations, saying the printed release listings in Japanese magazines, Famitsu and Dengeki, are actually errors and the games are still going ahead as planned. None of the games currently have release dates, however.

Since the mistake happened in two magazines, we can only presume that someone at Konami provided the wrong information to the publishers. It should be noted that this does not apply to Coded Arms Assault, however, which was officially cancelled last week. We're just relieved that a new Gradius is still in the works.
