  1. I beat the game the other day. I think it was my 4th try in total. The one thing that didn't work for me before was seeing the boss. I thought you could use either the X-ray or Thermal visors to see it, which of course, isn't completely true. When I found out you had to cycle between the Combat, X-ray and Thermal Visors, the boss was pretty peanuts. Blasting away those metroids gets u small health replenishes, so in the end, I beat the boss with about the same amount of health left when I started. So yeah, pretty happy that I finally beat the game I first started since release day (2003??) OMG, it took me 5 years to beat it? :P Now I can focus on MP2 again
  2. I gave the final boss in MP1 another try yesterday. It went pretty smoothly actually. In the first room with those gecko-like creatures I just jumped past them. The big room with those annoying Fission Metroids went pretty well too. I was barely hit by one. I just kept on jumping and dropped one Power Bomb. Having played the first Prime boss several times, I managed to defeat it with quite a bit of health left. I'd say I lost around 40% of my health. I didn't knew the second form was such a pain in the ass! It was hard to keep track of the boss and as soon as the Fission Metroids showed up, I could barely reach the Phazon pool, let alone shoot the boss. It was game over with around 50% health left on the Queen. Must. Do. Better. Meanwhile, MP2 has been very enjoyable till now. When I'm done with both, I'll get Corruption
  3. Ah, yes, I'm certainly one of those millions, haha. I'm the gamer that wants to get the most out of the games, especially those i really love. So I wanna see everything, collect everything etc. As for Metroid Prime, I'm not quite sure anymore why I left it unfinished. I think it was Pikmin (1 or 2) that took my gaming time and never actually returned to it. I don't remember collecting the artifacts as a chore, but I sure can imagine why: Collecting the Tri-force pieces in Wind Waker stopped me from progressing that wonderful game. Anyway, yesterday I went back to the game again and loved it to bits. Meta Ridley took me two tries, which wasn't that bad. The Impact Crater is a pain in the a$$ though, those damn Fission Metroids sure knows how to bother you. I almost made it to the true form of the boss, but alas, got myself beaten. I figured my creatures log were missing a few entries, so right now, I'm actually trying to find those creatures and get a 100% log. To my disappointment though, I can't seem to find the Barbed War Wasp and Ram War Wasp in their respective location anymore (Burn Dome and Hive Totem, both Chozo Ruins). I'm afraid i've progressed too far for them to return Anyone ideas if it's still possible?
  4. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

I actually playing Prime 1 now. Started Prime 2 a few days ago, but decided it was better to finish the final fight in the first game before starting its sequel. Now I cant wait to get MP3 and see how things have progressed. Still to this day, years after the purchase of Prime 1, Im still awing at the games level design, texture, music and overall art direction. It just oozes atmosphere. It MP1 that really got me hooked on the Metroid franchise. Never got around to play Super Metroid, but after MP1, I soon got Fusion, which to me is one of my favourite GBA/Metroid/All-time games. I only miss Metroid II and MP3 for the complete Metroid games collection As for MP3's difficulty, is it harder than Prime1? I thought the game was easier because of Hyper mode. Also, is the same map function available in MP3? I really loved the 3D maps. It was very easy to figure out where to go, where the exact location (position and height) it of the door. I hope they kept it in here.
  5. Medal of Honor Heroes 2

Shocking. Utterly shocking to hear :| I suppose the online mode is bound to the continent you're playing from? Maybe EA didn't bother to setup an Australia+NZ-only online server... Poor ppl down under. I suppose they'll always be able to import the EU version, though they'll have to connect to EU servers, prolly raising the chance of lags.
  6. I picked up MP2 last year, since it was on sale. I never got myself interested enough to pick up the sequel to undoubtedly one of the best, high-impact game that was MP1. I loved that game. Maybe it was because I never finished it. To this day, I still only need to finish the final battle to conquer the game. So just last week, I had my Wii somewhere else, so I went back to my trusty Cube. I couldn't resist to take a look at MP2. Gotta say, this game got my hooked, just like its prequel did. Now I gotta spend my gaming time between three different games on three different platforms (Advance Wars: Dark Conflict on DS, Super Mario Galaxy on Wii, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes on Cube.)
  7. Medal of Honor Heroes 2

My friends are absolutely hyped about this game. Im definitely getting this one, but will have to wait for more cash. I havent had the time to finish SMG yet, while I havent even purchased the January releases yet (Ghost Squad - cant find it anywhere, Z&W). Heck, Im even moderately interested in M&S at the Olympics. This month will see the release of MOHH2, NMH and BWii. Hurts my wallet :P I think I'll wait a few weeks till my mates have played this one. Advance Wars is keeping me busy for weeks to come anyway. Let's hope it sells well though. EA has actually put some real effort into making this game a great package.
  8. Fatal Frame 4

In hindsight, those shots are more likely to be FMV stills rather than in-game. Would be crazy if they were though. Still, I think the game will look pretty good and very atmospheric. Anyone found a trailer yet?
  9. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Supposedly March 14 in Europe. It popped up on the release list of one of Netherland's biggest retailers. Let's hope they're right.
  10. Fatal Frame 4

I remember that quote recently from Iwata saying "if we only do games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, players will be bored very quickly". That quote gives me faith that Nintendo knows what its doing. Sure, the Wii has the stigma of a casuals or even casuals-only console, but I think that will change over time. Without Wii Sports, the Wii wouldn't be where it is today. Developing the epic, grand games that we 'core' players like takes time. Adding Monster Hunter 3, Fatal Frame 4 to the Wii line-up and purchasing Monolith are three excellent moves. It gives Nintendo the opportunity to release/produce games that they aren't very good at, but are very important for a diverse line-up. If they are be able to do their own thing, while securing some excellent 3rd party stuff, I don't see the Wii going anywhere but up. As for the game itself, i really cant wait to see more of it. I may be too scared to play past the first 30 mins, haha!
  11. Looks very promising! Im liking the idea of the game
  12. Fatal Frame 4

In-game or FMV, we'll find that out fairly soon I think. The fact that Nintendo is apparently producing and publishing this game is even more promising, well, according N-E's news report. It means the this game will get the attention it deserves. It will be properly marketed and become a key 3rd party game, one with high production values at that. Hm, who knows, maybe the developers can surprise us after all and it'll be in-game after all, woohoo :P EDIT: Nintendo is indeed publishing AND producing this game. Over at IGN, they even mentioned a rumor that Nintendo may have purchased the franchise o_O (http://wii.ign.com/articles/848/848721p1.html). I say WOW, if true. Still, with Nintendo funding the project (my guess), along with long-time series producers handling the development I'm sure it'll turn out to be a worthwhile game. Add in the craziness of Suda51 and we will have a hard to resist title!
  13. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

Ah, the gem that is POR huh? I saw a few copies last year around Summer time, when most stores were clearing their GC inventory to make place for Wii stuff. I think it'd be a tough one to find now. It's not necessary to play the prequel to enjoy the sequel, though it enhances the enjoyment to see the return of the cast. Good luck finding one man.
  14. Fatal Frame 4

Seems like a mix of FMV and in-game models. The first 3 pictures, especially the 2nd one seems do-able on Wii. Remember that Wii should be able to churn out graphics better (think higher res textures and better lighting) than the Cube. If Tecmo put as much effort into this game as Capcom did with RE4, it could be possible. Still, we'd have to wait and see. As trailers usually not quite represent the final product. Im quite excited for this game, almost forgot its existence. Definitely one for my "wanted" list. Never played one in this series, but it always intrigued me, especially since it's like playing a Japanese Horror movie. Gotta love that :P
  15. Ghost Squad Wii

Cant wait to get my hands on this game. It should be a great party title to bring out. i mean, Wii Sports is getting a bit old (yet still very enjoyable, mind). It makes me sad that this title was selling for $10 in the US for a moment. We in Europe have to pay many many times that price. It feels so unfair. Our games are hardly ever discounted too... Still, Im gonna spend my money on it Anyone played it with the Zapper? I didnt mind for REUC, but Ghost Squad is really suited to that accessory.
  16. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

I was browser several Dutch retailers' website to look for Ghost Squad, Zack & Wiki and Advance Wars: Dark Conflict (Man, what an expensive month this January!) and to my surprise, I saw one listing a page for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn! Woohoo! See http://www.bartsmit.com/shop/productDetail.php?menuID=233&productID=185184 It's listed as March 14, which sounds plausible, as March is the first 'big' month in the traditional games industry. POR on Cube released in March too if Im correct. Can't wait for it!
  17. US Spring Release Dates

Quite a lot of crap in here, but there are some interesting titles in there. Top Spin 3? KOF: The Orochi Saga? (KOF Collection?) Great to see Japan-only titles actually making it over to the US, like Opoona and Castle of Shikikami III. What about Europe huh? I wanna know when I can get my hands on SSBB!
  18. Factor 5 Are Back!

Great news to me. I've always found F5 to be a very respectable developer. Tbh, I haven't really played much of their games, since Im not much of Star Wars guy, but I liked what I've seen thus far. Haven't their best games been on a Nintendo platform anyway? So Wii + F5 = (near) instant win to me. Since Wii is based on the same architecture as the GC and they've been involved in the developed of the GC (Wii as well?), they basically knows it inside out. I've no doubt whatever game they churn out, I'll be a real looker and shows the world what Wii is capable of. I just hope they take their time to polish the controls and make the game fun to play. As for what game it'll be? Honestly, I dont wanna see a Rogue Squadron game. We've seen too many of it already, I want to see something fresh. Something a bit more gritty like Disaster was heading (and we haven't heard anything about for a long time). I wouldn't count out Pilotwings as at one time they were supposed to be developing it. But IGN says it's no Pilotwings. So either it really is something new or it could be the Turrican/Thorn game they've been planning/working on since the end of the N64 era. Maybe it'll be 'our' Bionic Commando game :P Whatever it is, I bet (and sincerely hope) it isn't a casual type of game, haha!
  19. Bionic Commando

Hm, I like your suggestion! I mean, it's not too far off is it? You hear that Capcom? Go ahead with this brilliant idea! Signed it too btw, some 3000 something votes and counting... It worked for Okami right?
  20. Super Mario Galaxy

Ive just managed to get my 5th Grand Star, 58 Stars now. Im really enjoying this game. It's so much more fun than SM64 and SMS combined! And that's saying a lot. Playing this game is like being a little kid again, always wondering what kinda fun will be thrown at you. So far Im enjoying every single level, especially the desert levels. There's one planet that has a speedy quick sand in which you collect five blue shards. That one feels so much like an F-Zero track, awesome! I find myself playing with the gravity planets a lot. It's really crazy. I managed to long jump around a planet for more than full circle, like a few seconds without touching ground. That was so fun A few more galaxies to go. Im intending to get every single star before i head for the final showdown, otherwise i may lose interest in it like i did in SMS.
  21. Resident Evil 4 - :)

The minethrower is not a necessary item. My friend bought it at his playthrough (actually, he bought all available items which resulted is very very low on cashflow!). It's quite a fun little weapon to mess with it. You shoot at an enemy, they recoil and seconds later the mine explode. Quite funny to watch
  22. Red Steel - Some Of My Views

RS was the first game i bought. I knew the game was over-hyped when it released, but it still didn't hold me from purchasing the title. The game was clearly rushed. You had moment where enemies were suddenly floating around the air or the occasional freezing. The game certainly had potential. I liked the setting, the overall art direction was a breath of fresh air to me. Graphically, it started out mediocre before moving to a few "wow" moments later on in the game. If the can improve on the, I'll be happy. There were also some pretty neat little touches to the game, like throwing or rolling a grenade (that was awesome) and turning your gun. Contrary to popular believe, i didnt find the controls to suck. I didn't really find it bothersome. Sure, the bounding box was rather large, so turning was slow. The point and shoot mechanic was fine though. Sword fighting could use a bit more variety and some 1:1 movement with your wiimote (if possbble). If you play it the way it was intended to be, it was actually quite fun (block or evade -> counter -> block/evade again). What I hated about this game was the lack of a true challenge. Some levels were getting quite difficult, but im looking for a real thriller like GoldenEye used to give me. Having a regenerating health bar and countless checkpoints doesnt help to make it challenging. Be persistent and you'll eventually clear the level, whereas other games, you'll have to spend time learning the level, learning how to best tackle the area. It sure would add replay value. As for multiplayer, I've only played it in 2P. It actually was fairly enjoyable. As far as 2P deathmatch can go. It was hilarious how i was able to make instant 1-hit-kill-headshots from the otherside of the room. Haha. The lack of variety and options made this look like an afterthought. Im very excited for a sequel to this game. Because it has so much potential that just wasn't realized due to lack of time. They should have been working on the sequel for quite some time now, so it could really be a great product. What I'd like to see improved in the sequel: 1) Different control options. Give us tools to tinker with the controls, movement speed, bounding box etc. 2) Iron out the bugs and polish it till it's finally a A or even AAA product, instead of a sub B title. 3) Remove regenerating health bar and a lot less check points. 4) Further explore the sword fighting mechanics. Also, let us use the sword in regular play. 5) No more static cutscenes, make them real-time and actually tell us a story. 6) Give the player more freedom in the levels. The levels in RS were pretty much determined how you walked through them. That's from point A to B. Why not add in some levels that have you explore a bit more. 7) Add in a more diverse multiplayer mode. This time add in the bots! If an expansive online mode is an option, go for it! If MOHH2 can do it, why cant Ubisoft? That's quite a list actually. It just shows how much potential it had. Before the release of the Wii, every potential Wii owner was supporting and cheering for Ubisoft. After the release, I think about every single one of them has bashed them for their lack of effort and sheer laziness. Hench their new nicknames like Ubiport, Ubicrap etc. If Ubisoft is really behind the Wii, this is the one game that should win us all over.
  23. Resident Evil 4 - :)

I think the game was made a bit harder on the Wii version, because the controls have been easier. You can now easily pick off enemies far away, which would have been a lot harder on the PS2/GC versions. To compensate it, same levels have a few archers more I think. I didnt notice till I got to Mercenaries' Castle level. On the first plateau where you find a timer and a few barrels, you notice there'll be archers shooting down on you. They weren't there in the GC version. Resident Evil 4 is definitely one of my all time fave games. The Wii version is just the icing on the cake. The game is just so much fun, nicely paced and so diverse. And the Mercenaries mini-game is just brilliant. I've spent as much time honing my skills there as in the main game.
  24. Tomb Raider Wii

Hm, that's actually what i want to know. Anyone bought this game? Im fairly interested. So far, most games that had reviewers bashing the controls are over exaggerated. They may not be perfect, but they're far from broken or unplayable to me (Red Steel controls comes to mind, which are quite good, just not great). What bothers me about TR:Wii though, is that it goes for full price. Even TR:Legend Cube was in the 45 euro range. This one goes for 60. No way im gonna spend my money on it then. I might as well just pick up TR:Legend on Cube I saw for 15 and wait for this one to come down in price next year.
  25. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

If you're new to the series, I would suggest Fire Emblem on GBA indeed. Both (FE: Sacred Stones) are a fine starting point actually. If you can find POR on GC, I'd say buy it. It's a steal and a gem. I loved every bit of it. If you wanna see if you like the game, you may wanna take a look at Advance Wars actually. It's made by the same team and sports the same basic mechanics, but with tanks and other military stuff. It has less personality (a tank is just a tank you built), but is also less demanding. When a character dies in FE, you actually want to restart the mission. In Advance Wars, you just go build another. Ah sorry for drifting away. I've tried other Strategy RPGs, like Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics, I gotta admit that Fire Emblem is a whole lot more accessible and fun. Maybe it's my love for Intelligent Systems or the mechanics, it really is one of my fave series. I think finding some older games in preparation for Radiant Dawn would be an excellent move methinks.
