  1. Creepy... Serebii's game number list looks eerily similar to mine! (except I only have around 8 360 games and about 15 odd 3DS games, not counting downloads - that's not exact BTW, I'm not at home right now to count)

I missed out completely on non Nintendo consoles (aside from Dreamcast and a mate's Mega Drive) until around 2006 when I started picking up PS1 (mostly via the PS3's PS1 classics service) and PS2 games.

Virtual Console has been fantastic for me! So many classics that I never got the chance to buy before, with some so rare/expensive that I could never justify buying the physical version (hi Castlevania Rondo of Blood and Magical Drop 3!)

  2. Here's a few I'd suggest...

    Best Graphics (2D)

    Best Graphics (3D)

Best use of the Wii Remote (non-motionplus)

Best use of the Wii Remote (with motionplus)

    Best online multiplayer game

    Best local multiplayer game

    Best port/remake

    Best story

    Funniest game

    Biggest surprise within a game

Best new character born on Wii

    Best Boss Fight

    Best Music OST

    Best Mini/Microgame

Best game that didn't sell well

Best game that didn't get released in Europe

Your favourite moment/event of the generation

Which animal was best represented on Wii!

  3. http://rareminion.com/twelvetales.html

Interestingly, not much of it ended up being reused in Conker's BFD! There's a few bits (like the signpost, the dancing flower textures, text boxes, one piece of music and the boulder rolling) which were reused as is and a few bits that were modified (barrel rolling and conker shooting), but the grand majority of it really was completely scrapped!

I always had the impression that they re-used a lot more than they actually did :hmm:

It's not really hard to see why it was scrapped. It doesn't look any fun at all and also feels like a series of test environments loaded with a bunch of disparate mechanics, while lacking any sort of vision, goal or focus (which ties nicely into a comment that a former Rare employee made recently, who claimed that it was "not a good game")

    http://www.notenoughshaders.com/2012/08/21/donnchadh-murphy-chats-about-rare/

Also Conker is an annoying little shit in this game. Thank God they shoved a pint down his gullet!

  4. Disregard... seems that someone said something they shouldn't have...

That Tweet should not have been posted, Studio Liverpool is closed, there is no new Wipeout game. Ami Nakajima was not released [i wonder why ;) ], she was just tweeting to say that she "is still alive". Which is pretty tactless.
  5. I just realised, there is no Pokemon themed game? :-/

Is to be expected. It's only based on games from Nintendo EAD or R&D1/SPD - so the likes of Pokemon and Kirby wouldn't be considered.

The games here are all developed by EAD. Pokémon is not

Almost right, but not quite. [nerdmode]Metroid, G&W, DK and Balloon Fight were developed by Nintendo R&D1 (now known as Nintendo SPD1), not EAD :geek:[/nerdmode]

  6. Looking forward to hearing more about Yoshi Octopus and F Zero. I can't wait for this game, going to be multiplayer heaven.

If you can't buy both get Zombi U. FOr me launch is about getting the most out of the hardware, and although land and Zombi are both the best examples. Land is only the best example because of mulitplayer, by the sounds of it you wont play mulitplayer so I would go for Zombi U. Or both.

Yeah me too. I'm really itching for a new 4 player local multi game that isn't a sidescroller and this looks perfect! :D

  7. Check out the amazingness of Pikmin Adventure... full screen and 1080p it.... WOW!

You can turn your friends into poo!? Day 1! :D

I'm really torn over this game. It looks fantastic, but I'm not sure whether to go for this or the ZombiU bundle.

My problem is simply how many of these games will be playable as a single player experience? I know there's 12 games, but quite simply if only 4 of them can be played as single player games I'm not sure if it'll be value for money.

I know several people on the forum who are going for the ZombiU pack and I quite like the idea of hunting down their reanimated corpses...

9 out of the 12 games can be played in single player (with the remaining 3 being multiplayer only).

    Nintendo-Land-attractions.jpg

The three on the left are single and multiplayer games, the three in the middle are multiplayer only games, and the six games on the right are single player games that other players can assist with in a co-op mode.

BTW, does anyone else find it really funny that Pikmin Adventure looks far better than Pikmin 3 from a graphical perspective? (Yeah I know, Pikmin 3 was a Wii port and that's why PA looks better, but I still find it really funny)

  8. But doesn't that happen with monster hunter all the time? Didn't the portable psp games only have online added in the west?

The only games that Capcom have ever released that have had online added just for the western release were We Love Golf and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom (both of which just happen to be Wii games and the latter of the two was re-released with online in Japan later on as an international version of sorts)

  9. I wouldn't take the news about the selling of Wii U pre-orders to be really indicative of a bright future just yet...

The 3DS broke sales records upon release and we all know that the months following after launch didn't live up to expectations...

That being said, I'm feeling pretty bullish about its immediate future. Support looks pretty good ATM (particularily from Activision and Ubisoft) and the launch window at least looks pretty healthy. Whether or not that can be sustained however is another matter entirely (let alone what the impact will be when the PS4 and 720 comes out)

Speaking of which, that rumoured delay for Durango/720 till March 2014, could really work in Nintendo's favour if they can consitently build up western support over the next year (Japanese support should come from just about everyone other than Koji Pro at least)

Even just securing the likes of Watchdogs and Star Wars 1313 (let alone ports of already existing and soon to be released titles) as future releases somewhere down the line would really do wonders for the console's image and should be easily doable (they have a good relationship with Ubisoft and Lucasarts have no issues with Nintendo platforms)

Other than those games (and possibly a UE4 title or two), the only other real must have title that would really turn dudebro heads is GTA5 - and I really don't think that there's anything Nintendo can do to secure that one sadly (the Houser brothers are too proud and too powerful to let that happen); and on top of that, they really need at least one significant western focused title as an exclusive. Bayonetta 2 is a good start, but that's not nearly enough by itself (it is a niche title after all and will only turn the heads of forum goers). It has to be something big from an established team that is big in dudebro circles (at least on the sales level of something like Gears of War - though I don't see Epic as being willing to support Nintendo...)

Either way, this year head start is pretty much Nintendo's only chance to capture these major western 3rd party titles and subsequently the dudebro audience that dominates the PS360. If they can't make significant inroads in the west during this time period, then they can say goodbye to any significant western support for the rest of the generation.

  10. Dazzy, I sort of understand your point considering I argued along the same lines in the EU thread, but it's not like people have to buy both the Wii U and the 3DS version.

If they provided no online play in both versions then I'd completely agree, but they've got to differentiate the two versions and provide justification for each one. The 3DS one is portable and may provide streetpass features or have local play with friends (big boon for Japan, not so much UK&US). The Wii U one plays like a console title with online multiplayer, but isn't portable at all.

In my opinion, if you're getting a Wii, you'd be mad not to get that version.

Not to mention that the Wii U game will have, in all likeliness, no local multiplayer (aside from with 3DS players) and of course no S3D (which will massively benefit the underwater combat!)

I think they've differentiated them nicely and should compliment each other very well.

GODDAMMIT I WANT IT ALREADY! My 3DS is crying for this game!!

  11. Some more details have emerged regarding the western release of Tri U...

    http://nintendoeverything.com/99323/capcom-no-online-for-mh3-ultimate-3ds-wii-u-version-uses-nintendo-servers-tri-server-shutdown-lots-more/

Capcom has been answering a ton of questions about Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on its online forum. Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/Senior Vice-President and Yuri L. Araujo, Associate Online/Community Specialist provided some insight into the Wii U and 3DS versions.

We’ve rounded up a bunch of their comments below. The two confirmed no online for the 3DS game, discussed an eventual server shutdown for Tri on Wii, the long wait for Monster Hunter localization, the possibility of a software bundle on the Capcom Store, and lots more.

Araujo confirming no online for the 3DS version…

“Anyways, no plans for online mode on the 3DS version. Sorry =(”

Svensson also confirming no online for the 3DS version…

“I’d have loved to have seen online as well for 3DS but it twas not to be. Sorry.”

Svensson on shutting down the Tri servers for Wii…

“At some point in time (I’m not saying when… we’ll give everyone a heads up well in advance when we make that decision) we will sunset the Tri servers which are hosted by KDDI in Japan. I was adamant that we not do so until we had a proper alternative title to allow people to migrate to if they wish. It would have been bad just cut people off with no other place for them to hunt, in spite of the significant costs of operation.”

Svensson on the possibility of moving Tri saves over to Ultimate…

“I do not believe save transfers from Wii to Wii U or 3DS will be possible that I’m aware of. You get to experience some portion of the original title again. Remember, it’s about the journey, not the destination.”

    Svensson on regional servers…

“This element I still need some clarity on. Obviously, cross territory network performance even if matching is possible, could have issues. For Wii U we’re using Nintendo’s servers (which I’m very happy about) and I’m not sure how they’re set up. Candidly, we’re still waiting for Wii U builds in our office to play with and there’s still many moving parts that no one except for the team members has first hand experience with at this point. We have six months until release (roughly). We’ll have a lot more detail on these and other questions (most of which we DO know the answers to) as we move through the communications/marketing campaign and run-up to launch.”

Svensson on the possibility of transferring Japanese 3DS data to the US version…

“Not that I’m aware of. Remember, the Western version is slightly different from the Japan version and the 3DS tends to be region locked. I’d think a bigger obstacle for most people would be the need to have a Japanese 3DS and a US 3DS, each with copies of the game rather than putting in a couple hundred hours catching up your save. That said, no one in our office has done any tests on that front. Without final code that would be impossible for us to test and we’re still a couple months away from that.”

Svensson on the possibility of adding Wi-Fi functionality to the 3DS version…

“Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely at this point. Trust me, we’ve had internal debates a-plenty about it over the years.”

Svensson on any differences in Ultimate between the 3DS and Wii U versions…

“Given that there is cross play, there shouldn’t be any differences in content between the two (at least, that’s what the team has told us to this point).

“Any other details beyond that, I’m going to have to plead the 5th on until later in the campaign. Today was all about the announcement and other details we’re holding until later.”

Araujo on the long time it takes to localize Monster Hunter game…

“No, we don’t enjoy seeing you suffer… Localization is just one of those things that takes time and a lot of strategy. For one, it’s not just translation. Plus, we wanted to deliver a title that had full online multiplayer integration (Wii U), and that took a lot more development. But now we can offer you MH3U on the Wii U, with HD graphics, online, save-sharing with the 3DS version… that’s all awesome stuff – but it all takes time.”

Svensson on additional Wii U support…

“For now, that’s what we’ve announced. Yes. And there are many thousands of people who are thrilled with the announcement of what is our our currently largest brand coming to Nintendo’s existing portable and new console platform.

“The significance of that should not be underestimated.”

Svensson on any bonus content not seen in the original Japanese Tri G release and the possibility of some sort of bundle for the Wii U/3DS games…

“There are some subtle differences in feature set of Ultimate (like the ability to transfer saves from 3DS to Wii U) from the original Japan release of 3G, but game content should be identical.

“There won’t be a hard bundle of the games, but I’ve been speaking with Darin about providing some sort of soft bundle purchase option within the Capcom Store. Don’t hold me to it yet as we’re still pushing the pencil around but we’ll see what we can do.”

Interesting to see that the Wii U game will be hosted on Nintendo's own standard console servers that they offer as standard to all online games, instead of Capcom's own private ones like they did with Tri Wii. I guess that means that the feature set as seen in this game would be standard across all Wii U titles :D (and would mean that Capcom wouldn't be able to shut the servers down, as is sadly happening with Tri Wii)

Here's hoping for cross region online play! (Considering that most games running on Nintendo's servers allow cross region play, barring a few exceptions like Mario Tennis Open and Mario Strikers Charged, I reckon there's a decent chance of it happening! :D )

  12. A nice indepth interview going over some of the specifics behind how NintendoTVii works

    http://news.cnet.com/1606-2_3-50131229.html

It's like a universal remote that can automatically detect and interface with the Cable/Satellite set-top box you're using and automatically change the source on your TV to the correct channel/input (to watch and control live TV as well as streaming video) all without any sort of built in DVR pass through!?

HOLY SHIT!!! I'VE BEEN WANTING SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR YEARS!!!

    shut-up-and-take-my-money.jpeg

NOE!!! GET THIS OUT IN THE UK NOW AND GET IT WORKING WITH MY SKY+ HD BOX RIGHT NOW!!!

Now all it needs is the ability to stream videos from my PC in all formats and it's the ultimate media centre device! :D (apart from playing DVDs/Blurays, but if it's able to switch my TV over to my Bluray player then that solves that problem too! :) )

  13. The HUD is probably/hopefully going to be fully customisable.

I reckon it'd be pretty fun to play MH without any on-screen info at all! :heh:

One of the coolest things about MH Tri for me, was not having any information about the amount of life that a monster had left. Having to rely on visual clues, like them limping/sleeping was really interesting.

It'd be even more exciting if you didn't know exactly how much health you had left. :D

Ooh, I like the way you think! Like in Silent Hill or RE: Revelations - which sort of did this (though it still gave you a hint through the screen colour being drained away as your health decreased) - and it made those games much more interesting!

Maybe as a G/+ Rank requirement in MH4...

  14. While I'm sure the lack of achievements/trophies will somehow improve the sequel, the PlayStation 3 version of the first game was handled by a different developer, so they were focused on just one version back then too. :p

Precisely my point. The best games that these guys had made ( be it at Capcom or Clover/Platinum) are the ones that they were allowed to tailor make to a specific console. The likes of DMC1, VJ, RE4, Bayonetta, God Hand and Okami are as good as they are, partially because they were able to focus on getting the most out of one specific piece of hardware and one specific controller.

BTW saw this earlier, it's a good laugh

  15. How many of you gave a shit about this franchise before the sequel was announced as a Nintendo funded exclusive? I'm curious.

Some of us do own multiple consoles you know ;) I'm a huge Platinum Games/Clover Studios fan and I've played and loved all of their games (except Vanquish - just not my cup of tea. Seems not even they can make me enjoy a 3rd person cover shooter :( )

I was devastated when I heard that Bayo 2 got cancelled. Never in a million years did I expect to see it get revived (let alone by Nintendo!)

Not only is it good to see it come back, but I think the focus on a single console ( instead of having it being multiplatform) will actually benefit the game's development. They'll be able to focus on the game design itself, rather than waste dev time ensuring that it runs on multiple consoles - plus they're no longer forced to add Achivements if they don't want to and they can choose to take advantage of the Wii U Gamepad too! (if not for anything special in terms of gameplay, than just simply for off TV play)

Quite simply, I couldn't be happier about it! :D Here's hoping that this game (and The WOOO) leads to a long and stable partnership between Nintendo & Platinum! (cause let's face it, who else would be willing to publish their titles?)

  16. Maybe it's high time I got into this spin-off series.

Which of the previous DS games would you guys recommend?

Blue Rescue Team (the 1st game) and Explorers of Sky (the enhanced re-release of the 2nd game - think Pokemon Yellow/Crystal/Emerald/Platinum)

The stories dont carry on from one another, so you don't have to play the 1st game first, but I'd still recommend doing so as you'll appreciate the changes made in the sequel much moreso (plus the sequel is more complex and content packed than the 1st one, so Blue Rescue Team will ease you in moreso)

  17. As long as I can still happily do all those things, I don't mind buying two versions (and everything you described is perfectly possible with both versions combined)

Yeah it sucks that you can't play online with just the 3DS version (and that seemingly, you can't play locally with just the Wii U version), but this is a very reasonable compromise. Remember, just a couple of days ago we had all but given up all hope of getting the game at all - now not only are we getting the game, but we're also getting the ability to play online and on the TV in addition to just getting the 3DS version.

You're kind of missing the forest for the trees here. I was ecstatic to hear that we were getting the game at all, let alone alongside an online/cross platform compatible Wii U version! I'd like a rainbow coloured pony as well, but it really doesnt matter.

Besides, I still want the 3DS version more than the Wii U one anyway. Local multiplayer is more important to me than online anyway (let alone the S3D and portability factors!)

  18. Do you Defend everything about Nintendo consoles and games? Hasn't it happend loads of times not being online in japan and then online in the west? Also, They shoehorned it OUT when they moved it from the wii, then shoehorned itback in the wii u version.

It not having online is a bad, lazy decision. There's no defence for it.

It might be lazy but ultimately not a big deal since the Wii U version has online (and you'd have to be at home to play it online anyway)

I'd be upset if there was no Wii U version, but as it stands (I'm getting both versions) it makes no difference if the 3DS one has online or not. I'll happily play on the 3DS version for single and local multiplayer and the Wii U one for online (or single player if I feel like playing on a TV)

The only thing I really miss out on is playing in S3D while playing online, but that really isn't a huge deal if I can happily play multi with my friends on the 3DS anyway. It's an issue, but not a really huge one that's worth getting upset about.
