@Dcubed, your next mission, should you choose to accept it is to track down some details and footage of the fabled Timber platform game Rare had in development.
Heh, funny you should mention that. An interview that was just released revealed that it was actually never in development
http://www.notenoughshaders.com/2012/10/01/crash-lab-life-after-rareware-and-free-radical/
Can you or Lee provide any details on this rumor? It’s interesting because Diddy Kong Racing takes place on Timber Island so it seemed that Rare really liked the Timber character.Martin Wakeley says: I couldn’t say for definite but I have no recollection of that ever being in development. Where the rumour may have started is that an early version of DKR (I think it was called RC Pro Am at the time) had Timber as the lead character. I’m sure I’ve got a badly fitting Nylon polo shirt with the game logo on it somewhere.
Lee Musgrave says: There was never a Timber 64 game. Yes, there was Pro-Am64 that had Timber as the main character, but that became Diddy Kong Racing and that was the end of that.

Surprised that Punchout, Rhythm Heaven Fever and Fire Emblem RD scored so low! Thought they'd be up much higher.
Nice to see that Rabbids Go Home made it onto the list

Well said. LA is one of my favourites in the series and it's partially because it's so compact. It has a tighter focus on each individual moment than any other game in the series and features some of the most brilliant level designs in the series!
At times it feels like a parody of Zelda, while feeling like a perfect personification of what Zelda is all about at the same time.
A truly timeless classic and one of the most touching games in the series
As for the DX extras, I like them - but I think they're best experienced only after you've played the game normally as in the original B&W version. It's fun seeking out the extra stuff and messing round with them, even if the colour dungeon tunics arguably break the balance of the game (though in a fun way for S&Gs
)
That being said, it's only really Twilight Princess that has ridiculously huge dungeons. The other games in the series (including the DS Zeldas and Skyward Sword) feature much shorter dungeons.

I'm just going Zelda-crazy at the moment. Completed:
Ocarina of Time 3D
Legend of Zelda
Zelda II
Minish Cap
Link's Awakening (review on Retro Board)
I really want Link to the Past and the Oracle games! Will buy them immediately if they become available on the eShop!
Why not just get ALTTP on the Wii? (You have one don't you?)
-
I bet that they changed the words in order to not have to do separate recordings for each and every supported language. Bit of a shame, but understandable (especially when you consider that they're releasing the game just 4 months after Japan)
-
Is it me or are Nintendo not really doing much to hype this game up? I haven't seen any TV ads yet and their online efforts aren't nearly as strong as they were for B&W, hell we still haven't even had a decent proper English trailer! (And no, that cheap and shoddily made 1 minute crapfest doesn't count)
Have I missed something?

Generally speaking, most newer (quality) sets will have 3D as a simple bullet point feature - so you're not getting a better 2D picture by avoiding a 3D capable set.
I'm assuming that input lag is a big factor for you... in which case, you're not gonna find a lot of newer LCD sets that have low input lag without resorting to the absolutely ghastly looking "Game Mode" that most sets come with...
If you're after a Plasma set, then you've got a bigger choice of low latency sets (and as luck would have it, that's a sticking point that Panasonic are generally good with - so you may wish to look up their sets)
Me personally, I prefer LCD (ugh, phosphor trails...) and given that all I wanted was a TV that delivered on great image quality and low latency (didnt give a toss about the TV's sound quality or streaming tech - as my Reciever handles all that anyway) it was the best choice for me. Your requirements may vary, but I'm assuming that we're looking for similar things here.
Generally speaking, best thing to do is define a set of features it absolutely MUST have (low latency, certain number of HDMI inputs etc) and draw up a short-list - then go to town on doing research on each of them.

I didn't even realise Samsung were even considered to be "up there" with the likes of Panasonic and Pioneer in terms of quality (but the go-to brand for cheap TVs). Things must have changed in the last year.
One thing I do have to say about Panasonic: I don't know how they do it, but quality BBC iPlayer app is magnificent. If I watch the iPlayer on my PC it looks dreadful and blocky and pixellated, yet it looks amazing on the app installed in my Panasonic.
Oh yeah, Samsung do great LCDs - their plasmas are generally average though (Right now, Panasonic are the go to brand for Plasmas)
Though there's obviously much more to TV choice than just going by the popular brand...
-
If you can still find it, go for the Samsung D5000. I just bought the 40" version a month or so ago and it is a cracking set! (You'll also be glad to know that it has less than 16ms input lag - making it the LCD TV with the lowest input lag out there currently)
Here's a review from HDTV Test...
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ue32d5000-ue40d5000-201112121567.htm
Picture quality is stunning after calibration (blacks look truly black!) and it also does a brilliant job of upscaling a Wii image (without introducing any input lag at all!) It's a bit feature light, but if you value image quality and game performance over App support, fancy streaming features and 3D, you can't go wrong! : peace:

Yep. It lost its way and ended up somewhere absolutely wonderful. Seriously. Resident Evil 4 absolutely shits on the previous three in terms of enjoyment factor. And RE5 was pretty conserved, passing on most of what made RE4 great and adding awesome co-op.
No idea why people clamour for the style of the first 3 games. Ok, the survival horror format was entertaining, but the gameplay was pretty ridiculous. Gathering up random objects of the floor and constantly backtracking to the room where you're supposed to use it as well as awkward movement mechanics, terrible voice acting and annoying door loading.
I think it's a case of rose-tinted glasses if you think the series has got worse, tbh.
RE5 can only dream of being anywhere near half as good as RE4. It has the outer shell of its predecessor, but the inside is completely hollow.
For all that RE4 did to the series, it actually still clung on to being survival horror (albeit in a different way - focusing on creating fear through tension and horrifying set-pieces, rather than the jump shock scares and disturbing stories that defined the past games). RE5 was a pure action game, done using the same mechanics as RE4 and didn't even try to be a survival horror (not to mention was designed basically as a long set of linear Mercenaries maps strung together, rather than an interconnected world)
RE6 however is an outright disaster in every respect. Forget how it compares to past RE games, it's just a bad action game - end of (even when compared to the games it's cloning!). It's the RE series' Final Fantasy 13.

Cake time (as it's all I ever make).
Today I made small coffee sponges.
With coffee buttercream and a sweet coffee icing on top.
The problem I've always found with coffee cakes in general is they never really taste much like coffee
and they ALWAYS have walnuts in / on.
WHY DAMN YOU?!
So I made my own - less the walnuts. And with lots of coffee!
Those look delicious! BTW, you're spot on. Hate it when they add nuts to coffee cake. WHYYYYYYYY?!?!?!
BTW: Made my first homemade Katsu Curry tonight, turned out pretty well! (Sorry there are no pics though, didn't even know this thread was here and it was too yummy to hold off eating!)
I think it might've been better if I placed the curry sauce below the breaded chicken though (having it absorb the sauce takes away from that nice crunchiness. Should've thought about that before mixing it together lol!)
-
A perfect ending all in all. Touching and bitter sweet - with some beautiful time travel/space time continuum screwey uppery (resulting in a brilliant double set of twists at the end that stand as some of the series' best!)
Nothing like a good Moffat episode!

Embarrassing confession: I've never played a mainline Pokemon game
I'm thinking of giving Heart Gold/Soul Silver a try.. Or would Black/White1 be a good place to start? Advice appreciated.
Black & White are probably your best bet. As Serebii rightfully pointed out, it's a clean break from the past and is designed to be experienced as a self contained game (you can't even see any of the old Pokemon or communicate with the older games until you've finished the main story)
Alternatively you could play the original Red/Blue/Yellow or better still, its GBA remake - Fire Red/Leaf Green.
The other games were all designed with the idea that you've played some of the past games, though they're all easy enough to get into. They always do a great job of easing in newcomers - even though you'll get the most out of them once you've played some of the earlier ones since there's a lot of references and little nods to past games (Gold&Silver/Heart Gold & Soul Silver, does this particularly well!)
-
TBH it did look a bit suspicious how they only ever showed co-op play...
Wouldn't it have made much more sense to have you play as Rayman and have Murthy being the one who was AI controlled?
This sounds like a game killer. Trust Ubisoft to fuck up a great concept in one fell swoop yet again...
or maybe not! Going by Nintendo Power's latest hands on it seems that they've changed how it works...
Though Rayman Legends is intended for -and best enjoyed with- a bunch of friends sitting on the sofa, it does offer the option to play solo. In that case, you'll spend the vast majority of your time controlling Rayman or one of the other platforming heroes, and when you get to a section that requires Murfy's assistance, you'll temporarily switch to him while the AI takes the reins of your other character. We've yet to try this for ourselves, but the developers promise the AI will perform flawlessly to avoid frustration.Crisis averted? Seems so!

Those new levels look great! Nice to see one that takes more advantage of the Mega Mushroom too!
Here's hoping we get some levels that better exploit the mini mushroom and the Raccoon Leaf!
Price is also very reasonable too (Roughly £1.50 for 3 levels)
Edit: Oh hey I just realised something! That difficulty rating they give is actually a throwback to Super Mario Advance 4!
Nice touch!

Well, I have no vested interest in the third-party support on the Wii U and if it doesn't get any of the big multi-platform titles it'll just be that one console that I plug in when there's a new Nintendo game out, just like the Wii was.
So if EA decides not to release any of their high-profile games on the Wii U, the only people it'll affect are Nintendo stockholders and people who only own a Nintendo console. Somehow I always find the money to buy every new console eventually despite not having a lot of money, so I'm sure I'll manage.
Wrong. It discourages other western 3rd parties from releasing games on the Wii U. That means less potential games that take advantage of the Wii U's unique capabilities, less unique experiences and a smaller potential market for the small developers that I actually care about.
As a multiplatform owner who wants to see a healthy market develop, for all types of games from all manners of developers, on Wii U where they are free to come up with games that provide all manners of unique experiences that take advantage of the Wii U's unique functionality; you bet your arse that EA's snubbing of the Wii U affects me!
-
I agree that if your gaming needs aren't met by one console then whining isn't an option; buying a 2nd platform is. This situation is a little different though. Releasing METri on the other platforms for price A, and then just a few days later release 1/3 of the Trilogy on WiiU for higher price B, just beggars belief.
In this case Nintendo fans have the absolute right to complain. No offence but multi platform owners need to get off their high horse once in a while and realise a lot of people are only in the position to own one console, and make their choice.
Reggie made a promise (maybe not quite a promise, but a statement) this gen that they want Wii U owners to only need one console - minus exclusives - so if that isn't delivered on, Nintendo fans have even more room to gripe and moan this coming gen.
Multplat owners, good for you.. lend me a tenner.
Hell I AM a multiplatform owner and this move pisses me off! Fuck EA (as if I needed any more reason to hate them
)
-
I have no interest in the series or any of EA's other titles, despite owning every console, and did not intend to pick up the Wii U version.
However I see this action as a complete insult to me, fans of the series who were interested in the Wii U version and to Nintendo themselves.
Whether it's being done on purpose or not, EA has set this game up to fail and I view this as a no win scenario for Wii U owners.
If it succeeds, then EA will conclude that they can get away with low quality efforts for Wii U in the future. If it fails (which is the likely scenario), they will probably cut off any future noteworthy support completely.
It's the same garbage Wii owners were fed by the 3rd parties who refused to give the console any significant support. I don't expect EA to give the Wii U the time of day and that's fine by me; I'll just give my money to the publishers and developers who actually choose to give the console solid support (and the Wii U's lineup looks just fine even without them)
Wii got a lot of quality 3rd party games, despite it being snubbed from the likes of EA and Take Two. If the Wii U's 3rd party support no better or only slightly better then we'll still have a lot of quality titles to look forward to - despite the lack of effort from the likes of EA.

WOOT!!! We get Mole Mania next week!
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/games/nintendo_3ds_virtual_console/mole_mania_55039.html
Been wanting to play this for years!
-
I now have a Dark Note with Miratete's Memoirs as an available item. Discovered it thanks to the Libra ability.
The problem is it's dropped by Boss 2, and I only ever seem to fight Boss 3.
Is there an easy way to get Boss 2 instead?
I think there may be but I'm not sure, sorry. All I know is that you need to go past the signpost in the FMS in order to get to Boss 2 & 3.
Try hitting up GFaqs?

Finding it very amusing how one of the only flash cards that still works on the 3DS after the latest update is an R4. I would of thought Nintendo would be aware that R4 is still around.
That card just so happens to have save IC support. The way that Nintendo has blocked these cards is by checking whether or not the card that is inserted has proper save IC hardware and if it doesn't (which most flash cards do not), the hardware is blocked.
Unfortunately, they can't outright block R4 cards through a hardware check. They're stuck using the same whack a mole software check methods that they've been using for a while now.

interesting stuff thanks for that link. EA have a terrible history of acting like a spoilt child so that conspiracy theory isn't that crazy to believe.
Exactly. If EA hadn't tried this sort of crap before I wouldn't give it the time of day.
However, all the facts fit the rumour (it also predicts the release of Mass Effect Trilogy to boot!), Peter Moore did go to Japan to meet with Iwata and this is exactly the type of thing that EA is known for doing in the past.
Regardless of whether or not it's actually true word for word, I bet this will be used as a scapegoat for their crappy/non-existent future support on the console.
-
Very interesting, explains a lot. It still seems very silly of EA to do this. If other 3rd party titles sell well and the WiiU is a hit they will lose out more than anything. What an absurd strategy to render one of your flagship titles on a system redundant! Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
Oh, hi Wii! Completely forgot that you ended up getting shafted the same way...
I think you're utterly insaneNo way would they purposeful sabotage sales of a game because of a grudge, it's just ludicrous on absolutely every single level. If like you say they are in tatters then they will want every single success they can get.
And where did you read the wii u is breaking records?! Unless you mean shopto saying its outsold other preorders... but where they even about when the wii and ps3 came out? If they were they weren't as big and known as they are now.
Well... more extreme examples have happened before... [cough]EA shafting Dreamcast after being denied complete exclusivity - Tales of Graces being released on the same day as FF13 in Japan and then conveniently having an enhanced PS3 version ready to go less than a year later[/cough]
Nah, obviously EA are just stupid and don't realise that they're killing off a project that they actually believe in...
But it doesn't matter. I don't expect EA to provide any Wii U support whatsoever after this debacle. They've set it up to fail for a reason and all that's left for us to do is to look elsewhere at the likes of WB Games, Ubisoft and Activision - the publishers who are actually supporting the console...
-
EA are cunts but this conspiracy theory is getting ridiculous. If true they just wouldn't release anything on the system
Their stock is tanking, the current gen console market is in tatters and there's a new console on the horizon that is breaking all pre-order records (which is also coming off the back of one of the most successful consoles of all time and one that EA publicly admitted that they missed out on) and is perfectly capable of running their games without breaking a sweat - and also where PS360 ports cost relatively little to produce.
You try justifying not releasing anything on the system at all to your pissed off investors
The ME3 port was a sweetheart deal to try and gain Nintendo's trust in the first place, to get their foot in the door and wriggle their way into negotiations to get Origin on that system as the backbone of Nintendo's online service, where they take a cut of royalties (just like the stunt that Sony almost pulled on Nintendo that ended up destroying the SNES CD attachment and creating the Playstation). Once that plan failed, they fast tracked development of MET/ME1 PS3 in order to get it out of the door and kill ME3 Wii U stone cold dead.
Why else do you think they would release a trilogy pack just a mere 9 months after the launch of ME3? (before even the GOTY edition of ME3 got released!) - releasing before ME3 Wii U and at a cheaper price to boot!
EA are not stupid, they know what they're doing here. The ultimate proof will be seen when the inevitable excuses come out about how ME3 Wii U's failure means that they won't be supporting the Wii U in the future. Don't expect any significant support throughout the console's entire lifetime (if it gets any EA support from beyond this point at all!)
