Playing splitscreen with one person on the Gamepad and the other on the TV is a beautiful, beautiful thing

Is there much to Nano Assault? Heavily considering it, dunno whether to bite the bullet just now for it. Is it replayable in the arcade sense of trying to get the biggest score?
Oh yes. Very replayable, lots of depth in netting a higher score.
Coming from someone who finds Super Stardust HD to be a boring snooze fest, NAN is a FAAAAARRRRR better game
-
Downloaded Nano Assault Neo last night...quick download and great game
Yup! Game is fantastic! Shinen deliver once again!
PS: I WILL beat your first level score. You're going down!
-
Good news, but why only 24 input directions?
Shouldn't it be 360 directions?

Nintendo Land took about 5-10 minutes to update, but the remaining time on the display was always just seconds to go.
Those are minutes, not seconds. It's a bit weird how it's laid out, but the remaining time goes like this...
XX:YY (X = hours, Y = minutes)
-
Best game for me (by far) is Balloon Trip Breeze! Knew it would be.
I'd honestly pick up Nintendo Land just for that game!
As if your new sig didn't make that obvious enough
-
Possibly you need to turn the brightness up on the gamepad?
Nah, it's not a brightness issue, it's the colour saturation. My TV's colours are much richer than the Gamepad's.
Probably not something that can be fixed I guess. I wouldn't expect the Gamepad to match the quality of my TV though (My TV is pretty bloody awesome after all :awesome: )
-
Luigi's Ghost Mansion is the best game I've played so far, it's utterly brilliant!
-
Excitetruck is a real shocker! Never expected that one to get so high!
Such a shame that we never got Excitebots, you guys have no idea what you're missing. It's bonkers amazing!
I also kind of expected LKS to crack the top 10, susprised that it fell just short.
Another interesting and surprising list

There's a trailer up on the Wii U eShop and it includes an EU release date!
Dec 20 is the day for us!
-
They will be RRP.
Bearing in mind that RRP are hilariously high in the UK.
Interesting to see whether publishers will exercise the ability to have their own sales when they realise the market for £59.99 007 Legends is perhaps not as large as they'd have liked.
Yeah true. The eShop is especially useless for retail games here in the UK since absolutely nobody charges the full RRP on games here (not even B&M stores, let alone online shops, which are cheaper still!)
-
Has anyone checked out the eShop yet? Eager to know what is currently available for us to download!
BTW my update wasn't that slow really. Took about 40mins all in all (or so I was told by those enjoying it home right now, while I'm here at work...)
And my boxes were all really cold too. Strange, but it's working fine and nothing's damaged so I don't care
Edit: Nevermind, found a partial list here http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/11/nintendo_download_30th_november_2012_europe_wii_u_edition
WTF!? Is Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed really £39.99!? That's £10 ABOVE the retail RRP and the DD price on all other platforms, WTF SEGA!?
Can someone check the price of that game on the eShop for me? That can't be right surely? The RRP is £29.99!
-
I don't know what time is the cutoff for TMT or DPD, but some of these courier services deliver as late as 20:00.
Don't give up hope yet!
P.S The wait to get home is unbearable! Best part is that by the time I do get home, I'll probably be too knackered to want to play the damn thing!
-
BTW, the smooth edges discs are awesome.
They feel SOOOO CUUUUUTTTEEE!!!

So I've got my Wii U, but I'm not gonna get a chance to play it till I get back from work later on, so here's my initial thoughts on the console & Gamepad based on a quick 30 min screw around in setting it up.
The console is shockingly small! It's barely any bigger than my Wii! . It's also about the same weight - incredible really!
The Gamepad's image quality is excellent! When actually using the Gamepad, the image looks pretty much as sharp as my 1080p 40" HDTV (from sitting 6 feet away). No complaints at all!
The Gamepad is also shockingly light! Feels about the same weight as a 360 controller, even though it's technically about 200 grams heavier; the weight distribution is perfect. Feels super comfy! (And this is coming from someone who finds the iPad to be uncomfortably heavy in use!)
The Gamepad's face buttons are probably most similar to the N64 controller's A & B buttons, or the original Classic Controller's face buttons - though with a slight rubbery texture. Feels responsive, with a nice balance between clicky and mushy (feels responsive like the former ones, but softer on the thumbs).
The D-Pad is pretty much the same as the one on the original Classic Controller (that's a very good thing BTW!), while the shoulder buttons are... different. Probably the closest comparison with the Gamepad's shoulder buttons can be found with the 3DS Circle Pad Pro. They feel pretty much the same, but with a bit more give - very nice, I like them a lot
The plus and minus buttons are almost identical to the ones on the Wii Remote, but made bigger and again with a bit more give, while the ancillary buttons like Home and TV are within easy reach and feel pretty much the same as the Home button on the Wii Remote.
The touch screen is super responsive as well. No issues with using my thumb on it in place of a stylus (speaking of which, I haven't had a chance to try out the stylus yet), it's at least as responsive as the 3DS screen, if not moreso - so don't fear about it being uncomfortable with using your thumbs, like some reviewers would have you believe
And the sticks, despite not getting to try it out with a game yet, feel tight and responsive. It's just as tight as a Nintendo analog stick always is and though it feels similar to the Dual Shock stick, due to the loss of the octagonal gate, puts it to shame in terms of responsiveness.
Volume is pretty good too. Granted I've only heard the sounds of the system setup and the system update sound (that's when I had to leave), but the volume seems to be at least on par with the original 3DS, so no complaints there
The audio quality coming from the Gamepad itself also seems nice, crisp and clear (of what little I could hear from the system setup!).
As for the Pro Controller... The buttons and sticks are all more or less the same as on the Gamepad (except for the plus & minus buttons, which are the same as the Wii remote and Classic Controller/CCPro). The controller itself is around the same weight as a Dual Shock 3 (making it significantly lighter than a 360 controller and a bit heavier than a Classic Controller Pro). I find that it's also easy to reach the face buttons when using the two sticks and it feels comfortable to hold in all positions (d-pad face buttons, d-pad right stick, left stick face buttons, left stick right stick), so I don't think that the stick placement is an issue, like some have feared
In terms of Gamepad range, it reaches almost every room in my house (including my bedroom!) just fine. The exceptions are only the storage rooms and a strange room where no WiFi signal can seem to reach no matter what (getting any sort of WiFi signal in there is impossible!). In all, the range is a bit less than my router, but not by much - so I reckon that most people who are hoping to play it around the house and on the crapper will be very happy
Overall, very happy with the controller design and all that. My only real complaint is that the Gamepad stand isn't very secure. It works like the 3DS charging cradle and is just as easy to take out of, but I reckon it might be a problem if you're playing a game like Pikmin 3 that uses both the Gamepad and the Wii Remote and you find yourself tapping the screen quite hard, knocking it out of place.

IT'S HERE!!!
Just in time for me to set up before going out to work...
EDIT:. THE SIGNAL REACHES MY BEDROOM PERFECTLY!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!!

Iwata Asks is out! (Beware, the 5th page contains spoilers - which I happily skipped through most of!)
http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/papermario/0/1
A few choice excerpts...
Iwata We imagined rather early on that Paper Mario would be a good match for the Nintendo 3DS, and the papercraft atmosphere of the actual prototype was good.Tanabe That was about three years ago, at the end of 2009.
Aoyama At the beginning of development, we were simply incorporating an idea making use of the stereoscopic display function. Then at the 2010 E321, before release of the Nintendo 3DS, we revealed several images.
Iwata So why did it drag on until now?
Aoyama After E3, Miyamoto-san played the prototype and said it was just a port of the GC version.
Tanabe I had heard that at first Miyamoto-san said that something like an RPG would be fine, so for a while I thought that something like the previous one would be fine.
Iwata That must have meant that you hadn't done much that was new.
Tanabe Right. So we wondered what to do. Then the idea of using stickers came up. Originally, the plan was to use stickers here and there for solving puzzles on the overall map and so forth, but then we thought, "If we're gonna do that, then we might as well use stickers for the whole thing, including battles," and we decided to begin rethinking the game mechanics. Iwata That's when the policy of going all out with stickers came to the forefront.
Tanabe Yeah. But at first I couldn't really dig into development and couldn't easily resolve that.
Iwata You were making the Donkey Kong Country Returns23 game for the Wii console and I asked you to not get too deeply involved in other projects.
Tanabe Later, Donkey Kong Country Returns was done and the new year began, and I was allowed to really dig into development at the beginning of 2011. The first thing I did was to ask Kudo-san to participate in the project.
Iwata Oh, it's from 15 years ago on March 5, 1997.Aoyama It's made of 3D polygons, but I drew it to have an atmosphere like that of a picture book transplanted into a video game—with paper-thin 2D background and characters.
Nakajima This style simply didn't exist according to the path everyone was on at the time, but you could sense a great deal of feeling toward Super Mario in the pictures.
Aoyama I think about that time there was a trend of going for realistic 3D in home consoles, but I thought it might be an interesting twist to make use of those capabilities to use 3D in emphasizing a 2D appearance.
Kudo (looking at a memo (→image)) Hey, this is clearly my drawing! (laughs)
Iwata It says Love-de-Lic.20
20. Love-de-Lic, Inc.: The game developer Taro Kudo was affiliated with after leaving Square Co., Ltd. When staff members struck out on their own, it divided into several companies, including Vanpool, Inc.
Aoyama Kudo-san was there then, too.
Iwata In March 15 years ago, you ended up using something a new designer had made for fun.
Iwata Miyamoto-san really persevered with Paper Mario this time. Exactly what was he particular about?Tanabe Aside from wanting us to change the atmosphere a lot, there were two main things that Miyamoto-san said from the start of the project—"It's fine without a story, so do we really need one?" and "As much as possible, complete it with only characters from the Super Mario world.
Iwata That's a difficult task. In some ways that would be the exact opposite direction from recent games in the series.
Tanabe Yeah. With regard to the story, we did a survey over the Super Paper Mario game in Club Nintendo, and not even 1% said the story was interesting. A lot of people said that the Flip move for switching between the 3D and 2D dimensions was fun...
Tanabe But being unable to use new characters is pretty strict. Of course, we could not make any new enemy characters, and as for allies among the Super Mario characters, there's really only Toad in various colors!
Kudo But personally, the more restrictions there were, the more excited I got. They may look the same, but we put in some elements in which their personalities are slightly different, so you can tell the difference and you think, "Hey! Are you that Toad from back then?" Toward the end of development, I could feel that I became one with Toad! (laughs)
Tanabe You can't forget them, like when they have a bad personality, even though their faces are the same. Everyone (laughs)
Kudo In addition to red, there are blue and green Toads. However, we held all but the red one in reserve, so we had to think carefully over when to use them. When we decided to put the ranger in the forest, there was a weird vibe, like, "Green Toad…you're up!" (laughs)
Iwata Creatively, restraints aren't necessarily a bad thing. A lot of new attractive features come out of that.
Tanabe That's right. At first, we were making a lot of individual allies as in a regular RPG, but when we decided to focus on stickers, in order to make a clear change with previous games in the series, it was like we started all over again by throwing out the system—including those characters—that we had made up to that point.
Iwata You purposefully threw out the basic RPG structure.
Tanabe Yes. We decided to make it so that players would face stronger opponents by throwing out the whole concept of experience points and levels in favor of gradually gathering stronger stickers.
I had actually been thinking for a long time that I wanted to get rid of the RPG experience points. In the Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland28 game, which Kudo-san and I worked on together, the player-character didn't develop at all. We adopted a system whereby they solved everything with money.
This time, we decided to do everything with stickers. We decided on a system whereby in battle, instead of attack commands, you fight by using the stickers you have gathered in the field or bought in town.
Iwata That's why we call it a "sticker battle adventure."
Igata As one in charge of the maps, we really made the entire gameworld out of paper, so this world that is unlike any you've ever seen before holds lots of sights and happenings that are impossible in reality. I hope people will look at that and be surprised. And once again, an IA gets me excited to play the final game
-
Will be a long day of work for you today:p
Me too (and I bet that mine will arrive just before I leave...)
-
Sky Keep always bugged me because of one thing. Here you are achieving the three pieces of the triforce, and the game plays the same jingle it does when you find a new bottle. Just lazy, not to mention the non-descript room and animations.
I thought that was hilarious myself. The most powerful object in all of the Zelda universe and it's just lying around in a non descript chest, in a typical room. No fanfare, just "oh here, have a Triforce. No big deal"

I can see why some may have been disappointed in SS's OST, considering that it's the first orchastrated Zelda, right of the back of the last console Zelda being criticised for featuring a very movie esc soundtrack without the production and audio quality to match.
Skyward Sword's OST, for the most part, is basically the polar opposite to Twilight Princess in that it doesn't feature that much in the way of a grand soundscape (outside of a few select tracks like the opening intro, various cutscene music, boss battles and the Skyworld overworld theme) and it's not hard to see why it may have been disappointing to some, who may have hoped to hear something more along the lines of Zelda TP - but with a grand orchestra.
I think that much like its art style, it straddles a line inbetween Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (though perhaps closer to the former than the latter), between the more subdued or unusual tracks and the bombastic/epic - though also containing a style of its own (Fi's theme, the various songs that you learn and yes Faron Woods too are completely unlike any other tunes in the series!)
It's an oddball OST and I really like it myself. It's not my favourite of the series (that title goes to Wind Waker, with Spirit Tracks being a close second), but it's one of the better ones (and in a series that has given us a consistently amazing selection of soundtracks, that's saying a lot!)

Means I can focus on the games tomorrow and Miiverse etc Friday
You're just trying to make me feel bad now
Either way, I'm gonna get the best and most complete 1st moment experience. So nyeh! :p
-
So is the dream dead? Or will we be blessed with the full 20-01 list to commemorate the final day before Wii U?
-
Stop dreaming.
Just as well that I'm working all day tomorrow then! I won't be able to touch the console till almost midnight anyway and I don't really want my first experience with the console to be sans Miiverse and all the fancy features.
Cheers for the heads up, the wait at work won't feel quite as grating now
-
Went with Mario Mario Land, will be nice to have it on the system all the time.
Anyone get the code yet or do we really have to wait a couple of days?
Don't think anyone has yet.
Either way, you can't redeem it until next year
You've Got your Wii U - Talk about it/Show it off here
