Considering that Australia got both previous Scribblenauts games before us here in Europe as well, their own release date isn't exactly encouraging

Just caught up. Oh man. Not sure how I feel about the change to Rimmer's backstory That being said, I did like Hogey and it did come through with the belly laughs (the Harakiri scene was funny, even if it did drag a bit) Overall, it was a great way to end the series; even though they (cunningly :p ) dodged answering the questions that Series 8 left us, it felt like a satisfying conclusion (which makes sense I guess, since it's basically a condensed version of the cancelled Red Dwarf: The Movie script) If they never got the chance to make another series, I wouldn't be really upset with how it ended here.

Sucks, but at least it's something that Iwata said he wants to fix. That original pre-E3 ZombiU OctoG123 video is probably how they envisioned it, but couldn't get working in time for launch. I suspect that it'll get sorted in a future update...

What they really need to add is a cart function to both the eShop and to the ingame shop API - to allow you to then just pay for everything you want at once. It's so annoying to have to purchase things one by one (especially with things like Theatrhythm DLC!)

Another good week http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/11/nintendo_download_15th_november_2012_europe That's 3 downloads for me this week! (Fallblox, Ninja Gaiden, VLR Demo) NOICE!

Wow! This took up staff from a lot of various teams! (NST, Next Level Games, PDD, NBD) I suppose it makes sense to ask for co-operation from various western studios when you're making an international video chat app though! Now I wouldn't have expected that to be a problem! It makes sense when you think about it though (goes to show what I know about psychology!) Although with video chat requiring the user to quit the game they're playing in order to receive a video call, I'm never going to use it anyway. Until that problem is fixed (and there's no technical reason that would prevent it from working really, there's more than enough RAM and CPU cycles free to do it), the app is completely useless IMO.

So to those who've played through the whole thing. How different does it feel to past Halo titles and how similar does it feel to Metroid Prime?
-
Not if you hook up a Gamepad and use your foot to move the analog stick to run around, while you control player 2 with a Wiimote
-
Actually it was mostly the cutscene animations that Monolith helped out with in Skyward Sword (plus some 3D models and environment assets)

The guy could be talking complete BS. It's not like showboating, maniacal egos and melodrama isn't a thing in the world of hackers... Don't believe it until it's out and verified working.
-
Heh, you're right actually! I never even noticed that one :p It does seem eerily similar Also this is spot on (and Metroid Prime Pinball is criminally underrated!)
-
You are not And I bet they will be helping out again with the Zelda Wii U game (with perhaps some additional support from Greezo as well) Every single internally developed Nintendo game, released since Metroid Other M (with the sole exceptions of Mario Party 9, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Kiki Trick, Nintendogs & Cats and Intelligent Systems' games) has been co-developed by an outside studio. This is now Nintendo's SOP. By and large, they don't make games 100% internally anymore, because they just don't have enough staff and are also still playing catchup, when it comes to working with modern shader based hardware (which is also why Capcom's 3DS games look far better than Nintendo's own ones), so they badly need the outside help.

The Five most Influential Games this Generation

(1:00 onwards) If you replaced Leon with Ethan, Helena with Madison and the Zombies with the Origami Killer, you could fool me into thinking that was a scene from Heavy Rain... -

This year's E3 was basically like a big Uncharted clone convention. While I'm obviously being disingenuous when I say that they have "no gameplay" (and I do actually own and have finished both games actually ) the influence they have had on the AAA console game sector is clearly obvious when basically every game shown at E3 is trying desperately to be an action movie with some QTE sections thrown in for good measure. -

Oh cool, then that's fine I'm actually tempted to jettison NSMB in favour of Super Monkey Ball iphone now. Nobody really appreciates the damage that game caused to the value of games as a whole. If they had set a higher starting price, then iOS games now, including Angry Birds, could well be valued much higher on average (or perhaps the platform might not have even taken off for games at all!) and we wouldn't have all these idiots asking Nintendo to devalue their titles and sell them for peanuts. It was Super Monkey Ball iPhone that started it all, not Angry Birds. Well it's not long until all three home consoles are replaced, so he's not really wrong. This generation is about to come to a close, so I reckon it's a fine time for this discussion really Plus technically, the 8th generation of consoles actually started last year when the 3DS came out anyway :p -

Actually, if you're looking for someone to blame for that, you should be directing your anger at SEGA for releasing the first Super Monkey Ball for iPhone back in 2007 at $9.99 (can't find the UK launch price now strangely enough ) It was the success of that game at the app store's launch that drew others toward the platform and set the expectations of ludicrously low prices. It's kind of funny when you think about it. The same company that whored out their classic titles with cheap, low quality Backbone collections and crappy PSN/XBLA Mega Drive releases that devalued their classic MD and System 16 library were also largely responsible for devaluing gaming as a whole Edit: Oh, you wanted the discussion to be about console games only? Well in that case, you can replace Farmville with Uncharted at the number 4 spot (ahead of NSMB) then I guess (though I think it's a bit disingenuous and a bit of a shame to limit it to consoles only as the console market is heavily influenced by other gaming markets as well - plus it makes for a much more interesting discussion overall :p ) -

I agree with you on the top three, but I'd knock off Guitar Hero (which wasn't all that influential outside of its genre and actually started last generation anyway) and Fallout/Oblivion (because that was just part of a wider movement of western developers bringing WRPGs to consoles) in favour of two different games... 4: Farmville This game popularised the now dreaded Free 2 Play model. Never mind the fact that it was largely stolen from another developer, or the pop culture status it attained, or the myriad of (hilariously ironic) clones it spawned, but it made this model acceptable to a mass audience - a model that has since gone on to infect most MMOs, most mobile games and a large portion of paid PC and console games (mostly online Pay2Win junk). It spawned the latest gold rush that most western developers are now blindly chasing (all made hilariously ironic by the fact that Zynga is currently circling the drain, as their IPO has turned out to be a failure). I'm tempted to put it at number one, but really - it wouldn't have been anywhere near as popular if Nintendo hadn't brought in that new expanded audience to begin with; and a lot of the psychological tricks it uses were popularised by COD4 beforehand. 5: New Super Mario Bros It singlehandedly revived an entire genre! Granted, its effects weren't felt until NSMBWii came about, but it not only completely resurrected the 2D platforming genre, it actually made it stronger than its 3D counterpart and proved without doubt that the mass audience sought a more approachable experience that relied on skill alone. The Wii game also introduced the revolutionary Super Guide system, that has gone on to be incoporated into every internally developed single player game that Nintendo has made since (in one form or another) Uncharted and Heavy Rain are close runner ups, if only for how almost every current major console game is turning into a clone of those two (quasi interactive movies, with almost no real gameplay). But ultimately the western console market is only a small subset of gaming as a whole. -
It would have to be something fundamentally different to justify a new game being made really; the series needs a huge shake up in the same vein as F-Zero X. How about a free roaming mode, where you have to explore Mute City and other planets - driving down super fast highways in search of a bounty. Along the way, you bump into unscrupulous foes that challenge you to on-the/spot races (think Burnout Paradise) or missions like the ones you got in GX! Also, how about some spherical planetoid tracks, where you had lots of different crossing race tracks (providing ample opportunity to beat the crap out of each other as you pass by other players ) They could also implement new gravity shifting mechanics, where some tracks will have your ship flying upside down, or even sideways on a vertical wall! (And any hit to another player is an almost guaranteed death ) Heh, this is starting to sound like F-Zero Universe (Why the hell not and all? The biggest untapped part of the series is its game universe after all!)

No analogue triggers: How serious is it?
Dcubed replied to Hogge's topic in General Gaming Discussion
You could, but just imagine yourself trying to pitch that control scheme to a developer who is scared to try anything new in the genre or to a "hardcore" racing fan who refuses to play anything other than GT/Forza/whatever they're already used to. Chances are that you'd probably get laughed off the stage... -

Dcubed replied to Hogge's topic in General Gaming Discussion
No beating around the bush here. It's a problem (and a big one for the realistic racing genre - where developers and consumers are unlikely to be willing to adapt to alternative control schemes) The whole point of the Pro Controller's design is to enable 3rd parties to be as lazy and conservative as possible. Giving them any excuse to not support their console is likely to actually cost them support. It's also a problem for whenever they want to release GCN games on the VC, as none of the Wii U's control schemes can fully accommodate the GCN controller (aside from the original SNES style Classic Controller, but they couldn't expect most people to have one of those - nor is it an ideal setup for GCN games anyway, due to its controller layout) They should've just gone ahead and made the shoulder trigger buttons analog with a Digital Click, but they're stuck now. To support GCN games on the VC, they will now need to either release yet another specialist controller, or come out with a new Bluetooth enabled GCN controller. It's a mistake, plain and simple - even if it does only have limited consequences. It's not like any of their games are gonna support the controller anyway... -
Here's a couple that I did earlier. Gonna do some more later on
-
Eh, I suppose that's an option. But it would only be available to those who happen to know someone in Japan who was willing to share an IP address...
-
Why the hell are there no impressions of this yet!? I'm really curious about this one. If there's only one developer out there that can turn a turd into gold, it's Nintendo (and that Launch trailer looks really, genuinely great!)
-
Does that work? Or have they blocked proxies from working too? (I know that they did for DQ10 in Japan - The only way to circumvent the IP Lock is via VPN. A costly and very inconvenient solution...)

In the comments section of this page, someone from ONM confirmed that we get Nintendo Land in a proper case when you buy the Premium Pack http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/43690/wii-u-unboxing-video/ Nice to know that it's not just the US that gets a proper case
