And so the excruciating wait for an EU release begins...
-
Very often, though when it comes to repeat playthroughs of long single player games like the Zeldas or most RPGs, I always wait at least a year before playing them again.
Pick up and play games like Super Mario Kart, Mario Party and Panel de Pon or short N' sweet games like the SMB games, the MD Sonics and the DKC SNES trilogy get played all the time though
-
I'm tempted now! Kind of miss the original 3DS. Are smudges less noticeable on the Ice White exterior?
Haven't noticed any on the inside or outside

Credit goes to Borman of Past-to-Present Online - who is doing a fundraiser to get betas of Perfect Dark and CBFD released publically.

Bit disappointed that they're doing a straight sequel to MSF, rather than doing a new "Mighty" game with the same puzzle style gameplay.
That being said, MSF is good stuff so I'm looking forward to the sequel
-
Switchaxe>>Sword N' Shield>>Hammer>>Great Sword>Longsword>>Lance>>>>Bowgun.
At least that's my order of preference in the original Tri. That being said, I love using the Dual Swords and the Hunting horn in MHFU, so I'm really looking forward to trying them out in MH3U!

As much as I've loved my Cosmo Black 3DS since launch, I too have been tempted to change colour for a while now, but only if the right colour comes along..
I had considered the Flame Red one but I'm not sure if it's the right colour of red.. though I do like the reflective finish on the top of the unit, something that does disappoint with the black model
I would possibly have been interested in the Midnight Purple but there's still no sign of it here.. and I was disappointed when the Limited Edition Fire Emblem version turned out to be an XL!
Exactly the same here. I was holding out till the next ND in hope that we'd get either the purple or the limited edition FEA 3DS. Walked away disappointed, so I went for the Ice White one, which was my backup choice.
Glad I did, the white one is simply gorgeous
-
So I replaced my 2 year old Cosmo Black 3DS (it was a bit beaten up and worn out, so I wanted a new one) with a new Ice White 3DS the other day...
To my surprise, it seems that Nintendo have improved the colour gamut and saturation of the original 3DS model's screen! The colours are noticeably richer than on my old console!
While I don't have my old 3DS anymore to make a picture comparison, I compared it to some screenshots of 3DS games on my iPhone 4S and the difference is indeed noticeable. The new white 3DS compares much more favourably than my old black one did!
That was a very nice surprise!

I've had quite a few glitches on the Wii U version. Driving through walls into blank space, cars turning invisible, cars spawning inside objects, loud static sound glitches...
Yup, it's a SEGA game alright
A shame really, since the game itself is actually very good. Been a long time since we last had a decent kart racer that isn't called Mario Kart.

Seems that Michel Ancel may be looking to leave Ubisoft...
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=515226
Loose Translation:"Two delays and the loss of temporary exclusivity for Rayman Legends on Wii U might have pissed off players, but it's also causing quite a stir at Ubisoft Montpellier.
Based on several sources, Michel Ancel might be thinking of leaving Ubisoft with his own team once Legends is finished, and start a new project with other people (different company?). He talks about wanting more liberty in creating and organizing his project. This is not the first time Ancel has spoken of leaving, but so far he's always stayed with Ubi.
Development of Rayman Legends is pretty much over, even though there is some work left to do on the PS3 and X360 versions. Ancel would like to calmly leave Ubisoft, taking some people with him. If it should happen, it wouldn't be a crying affair. Ubi is aware, and they might choose to be involved in Ancel's next project either way, even if he chooses to leave, as per an anonymous developer. Another source says Ancel has already given notice he is leaving, as he has other contacts and projects he'd like to work on. Five or six Montpellier personnel would be ready to leave with him. The idea is that Ancel would remain "tied to Rayman", whatever happens.
This might explain in part the further delay and the premature announcement of the Rayman Legends port to other platform. With Ancel possibly on his way out, he would have less motivation to contest the decision to port, as he is already looking to greener pastures. Several sources state Ubi and Nintendo were unable to come to an agreement on distribution and marketing of Legends, which was a reason for the port to PS3 / X360.
Ubisoft and Ancel categorically deny these rumours. We probably won't know much more until a couple more months, unless more sources start spilling the beans."
Like I said guys, just a quick translation.
This wouldnt be the first time he's been prepared to leave. He supposedly was about to leave when Beyond Good and Evil 2 was cancelled and only decided to stay when Ubisoft gave him his own team to make Rayman Origins...
Ohhhhh Nintendoooooo... You have a French R&D team who could use some staffing...

Launch hardware can be given a grace period, though I do feel Nintendo's QC might have slipped a little more with launch hardware recently.
Aye, I was. Sony needs to make as much money back on this thing as they can, so I'd say they might'n stop just there either. The Wii had absolutely no need for a HDD... The Wii U on the other hand may have benefited from a USB3 port so USB3 HDDs could be used with an install option on games if only least, the disc didn't spin so much.
£300? You should coco. There is no BC with the PS3. Maybe some of them will be on their stream cloud service, but I imagine at a cost. Used games use is also hazy at the moment, Sony saying it's upto the game maker...
The fact that it took Nintendo so long to allow people to properly use the SD card slot that came installed as standard with the damn system was criminal!

But...but...but...I'm the foremost expert in Pokémon in the world.

I know you hear people moaning about it, but are most people really that bothered about installing before you play? I mean, how desperate does someone have to be to resent an install?
Can't wait to see how big this and the 720 will be though. What have they learnt from the YROD/RROD fiasco to make sure that doesn't come about again?
Do gamers these days just except high console failure rate as a part of life now? I know this gamer doesn't.
When games are 25-50GB a pop, you'll find your HDD space gets eaten up pretty quickly!
-
Presumably they can use the secondary CPU to install the game while you play now, so it's not a big deal.
That won't work because the game needs to be able to load the data off the disc at the same time, you can't install the game onto HDD and read data off the disc into RAM at the same time because the disc speed bandwidth is being taken up by the game loading from disc.
27MB is a hard limit that you can't get around, unless you install the game to the HDD before you play and even then, filling 6GB of RAM would still take a long time! (average 7,200 RPM HDD is around 100MB read speed, so it would take around 61 seconds to fill 6GB of RAM - still on the lengthy side...)
-
But then again, are there any really good RPGs on the 3DS yet? Maybe in Japan, but I don't think there are in Europe.
...
Regarding shooters, I just find them callous, to be honest. The Killzone footage was a real low point of the conference to me, although Sony did at least prove themselves masters of irony. "Nintendo is so unoriginal, making all those Mario games. Here's an FPS."
But really, I didn't know how they weren't embarrassed to be making a focal-point of something so... repetitive. It was just mindless violence, and the way they introduced it made it sound quite artistic!
I don't want to sound like a prude or anything. There's just as much violence in films, if not more. But when so many games are just about guns and violence, I'm thinking to myself "Have we all numbed our brains or something?"
There's a reason for that and that's because these games are aimed at bloodthirsty American teenagers first and foremost. No other demographics exist apparently, didn't you get the memo?
-
I was waiting with great anticipation for this demo and it didn't let me down. Having seen the recent spate fo videos online, I wasn't too sure of how it was looking visually as they came across quite pixelated and the textures looked rough. On the 3DS screen though, it's like an entirely different game. The models used for, well everything, are surprisingly detailed given how far back the camera sits naturally as are the textures and it's not until you see the camera zoom in, which it likes to do, that you realise just how good it is. Coupled with the excellent 2D backdrops in the outside sections, you really have one gorgeous looking game that continues to impress throughout the demo. If I were to start nitpicking, dynamic shadows that react to light sources would have been nice but it would take its toll on a framerate that already sits at the lower end of acceptable. Still, all in all, I think it's probably the most visually impressive 3DS game I've seen and edges out games like RE:R and MH3U (though that slick 60fps on MH is very pleasing) in terms of techincal and design aspects.
Gameplay wise, again, very good. I can see why people might feel it's a little floaty but I consider that a necessary evil to allow for a greater degree of aerial combat - Samus in SM is super floaty too for that exact reason but I think they went a little too far with her. A slightly more annoying aspect is that jumping is a fixed height and tapping or holding the jump button makes no difference but I soon got over it.
I've played through the demo 5 times now and it continues to impress me from the moment you see Trevor standing on the bridge outisde the castle wall (that nod to the classic Castlevania openings of old) with the beautiful intro music right on through to the encounter with the boss that marks its end. The exploration was light but that's more duie to being the confines of a short demo but in term of the set up, it felt like exploring one of the paintings in Portrait of Ruin and that's exactly what I was hoping for.
I can safely say that any lingering doubts have been well and truly vanquished.
Agreed, I actually really enjoyed the demo. The combat works well in 2D space and doesn't seem to really bog the pace of the game down too much like I had feared.
My only concern remaining is the level design. I hope that the full game is much less linear and that it can keep introducing new ideas and concepts throughout to keep the game fresh.
With them bigging up the game length being 20 hours plus, I get that nagging feeling that it's gonna run out of steam halfway through (I hope I'm wrong!)
-
To be fair, no one really thought it likely due to the cost involved - or at least, few people did. Devs might be pushing for it but they don't have to worry about the cost of buying the parts and assembling the boxes.
Exactly, it's going to cost a fortune here. The heat and motherboard complexity increase it brings is also very significant - expect it to be bigger and louder than the original PS3 model was...
And even then, you have to wonder if the benefits are really worth it in the end. It's all well and good having 8GB of RAM, but there's one big massive bottleneck holding it back and that's the BD disc drive (which offers a max read speed of 27MB per sec). Being generous to Sony here and assuming that games have access to 6GB of that in total (with 2 GB locked off for OS use; I'd be surprised if it were that much really), it would take 3 mins and 48 seconds to fill the RAM completely from disc! - and that's ignoring seek times!
You're never going to see loading times that long though, because that would just be completely absurd so unless they require mandatory installs for every game, I can't even imagine a game even really needing that much RAM at any one time (if you were working with less RAM, you'd just remove unnecessary data when you don't need it).

I have noticed some subtle but odd horizontal blurring issues when I play F-Zero on my GamePad though - a bit like the sort you might see on a low-quality YouTube video. Any one else experiencing this? Common? Expected? Don't have the issue with any other games.
Yup me too. Seems that the Gamepad video encoder struggles a bit with the pixelation of the mode 7 track (which isn't hard to imagine why really. Very rapid pixel movement creating a sort of static effect like what you'd get on analogue TV must be hard to capture in video encoding as it's very unpredictable and requires very fine detail capture that seems to break the bandwidth budget every so often)
It's a really good stress test for the Gamepad actually! Doesn't look bad really all things considered, the artifacts are only really noticeable for a brief moment or so and then disappear.
-
It's compatible in terms of using it for the camera, at least as far as i'm aware. It's just not compatible using it for attacks.
It may not be true as I just asked the question on gamefaqs. I'm sure @Dcubed will be in the know about it though.
Actually you'd be wrong! I have no idea lol :p

I haven't enjoyed an FPS since Timesplitters 2 (There is Bioshock I guess, but going back and playing it again just recently made me realise that it's nowhere near as good as I remembered). Todays FPS games are boring, largely play themselves and generally all congeal into a big homogeneous dark chocolate cricket ball of mediocrity. There are a few interesting multiplayer only FPS games like Team Fortress 2 (though that one has since been ruined by F2P garbage
) and Shadowrun 360, but they still don't come close to those classic titles for me.
I love the old Doom games, Quake 1-3, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok 1 & 2 and Timesplitters 2. Sadly nobody makes games like them any more

I was quite lucky as a kid really. I was the Nintendo guy, and my mate was the SEGA kid so we used to just play each other's games
I never did get my own Megadrive though (my first SEGA console was a Dreamcast), though I did always love those MD games like the Sonics, Ristar, Ghouls N' Ghosts, Mean Bean Machine/Puyo Pop and Moonwalker. It wasn't until the VC came out that I was really able to dive into its library and it really does have some amazing games!
The Shining Force games, Pulseman, Strider, Monster World/Wonderboy, Fantasy Zone, Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Beyond Oasis, Dynamite Headdy, Shinobi 3 & Revenge...
The Mega Drive truly is a treasure trove of classics and the king of 2D action games

Does anyone know if PS4 games will be native 1080p?
Supposedly Killzone is 1080p, but whether or not it's actually full native 1080p or some sort of fakey upscaling, we'll have to see...
BTW, a few tidbits about the Vita remote play...
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2013/02/21/interview-shu.aspx
Q: You showed us how you could use the Vita as a second screen in your living room. Is that local only, or is there any ambition with Gaikai to use that as a server and get further away in the living room?A: Technically speaking, it works from anywhere, as far as you have a wi-fi connection from your Vita to the PlayStation 4. It needs to be wi-fi. However, for some games, when you play or connect from far away, it accumulates latency. Some games may not be playable, like fighting games or shooting games. But some other slower paced games will be playable. As long as you have home routers anywhere in your home, you can play every PlayStation 4 game. We ask developers when they finish the PlayStation 4 product and submit a master to make sure that they have the appropriate controller mapping to work on PS Vita. All games will work – unless it is a dance game [laughs].
So it's just like the existing Remote Play feature then, the only difference being that every PS4 game supports it and that developers are responsible for custom button mapping to the Vita controls. So there's no secret sauce they have to fix latency issues then and most action titles will suffer in terms of playability, but you can play games over an internet connection if you wish to.
For what it's worth, the native Vita Remote Play (as featured with the GOW and Ico/SOTC collections) is much better than the PSP version. Far from perfect (and 30FPS max), but Ico and SOTC felt playable at least
Granted, they're fairly slow paced games and the Remote Play function is no Wii U killer, but the PS4 Remote Play should be useful for slower paced games at least

Downloaded the demo last night, it was my first experience of Monster Hunter and I've got to say I'm not really impressed, don't think I'll be bothering.
I didn't really know what I was doing to be fair, it does throw you in at the deep end without any real explanation, but I didn't find the controls particularly intuitive and the constant loading between areas was a bit jarring.
The actual game does a great job at easing you into the game and explaining all of its various nuances. The demo is designed for people who are already familiar with the series.

I'm just waiting for the third party Wii U Direct. It really was a missed opportunity to not have revealed Watch Dogs in it before yesterday's thing.
But, it makes you wonder, if Watch Dogs is coming to Wii U...what else will?
Very true. Why the hell would Nintendo want to not tell us that it was coming!?
Makes zero sense to allow this kind of FUD to spread when they could've nipped it in the bud so easily...
