  1. Well the PS3 is killer as a player. Still the reference. The only thing to worry about is the TV.

Amazon have an excellent selection including new movies in their 3 for 2 offers. Got Wall-E , There will be Blood and Pan's Labryinth this way.

Plus movies like Batman Dark Knight can be found for just afew more £ than the DVD releases.

Not only that but rental websites like lovefilm.com dont charge extra for using Blu Ray compared to DVD.

I have jumped in a big way now. Though mostly rent.

Yeah, I pick up the Blu Ray now unless it's an old DVD that could for cheap. In HMV 28 days later and 28 weeks later on Blu Ray together were £30. The boxset for both on DVD were £5. Obvious choice really. HMV are crap for Blu Rays though. Most are like £25. I just wonder how anyone actually buys these things.

  2. Yeah it is the gos going round and its well known that Ziff Davis have been losing money and did fire for a form of bankcrupcy... I still think though that they have ripped the core out of what made the 1up network, it was and always has been the personalities. They put themselves out there and were out in the for front of the podcast movement and the 1up Show was definitly the best video podcast out there. I think they benefited from putting their personalities out there... No the site will be running with just a few of the staff that got it where it is and likely populated with UGO staff who don't get the 1up vibe and will turn it into what they want. I hope the guys all club together and make their own site giantbomb style.

Totally agree mate. I never went on the site, but I loved 1Up Yours and the 1Up Show. It was never quite the same after Luke Smith, and Mark McDonald left and a few others had also left, but it was still great. Apparently Shane was already leaving.

I'm really gonna miss those shows. I'm just glad GiantBomb was formed, cos I felt like this about Gamespot this time last year when Gerstmann got the sack.

  3. You can turn off notifications from the guide on the 360.

And I'm still confused as to how the PS3's system is any different to the 360's except for in name.

Yeah I agree. I can compare my achievements with my friends in each game as well on the Xbox. :s Harder achievements are generally higher points, so I don't even understand how the gold/silver trophies make any difference.

  4. I should really start trying to finish a few other games as well.

    I want to finish:

Gears of War 2 (but only just got that so :p)

    Banjo Kazooie N&B

    Mass Effect

    Burnout Paradise

    GTA4

    NBA Street Homecourt

    Super Paper Mario

    Boom Blox

    deBlob

    Zelda PH

    Prince of Persia

    Heavenly Sword

    Resistance

So a fair few compared to how many I normally get done in a year. Best get cracking!

  5. I've practiced a while with it and it's starting to come to me now. I played on medium difficulty and got perfect 100% so the controls can't be that terrible. The only ones I find at all difficult to get are the top ones as sometimes it doesn't recognise I'm tilting up quick enough. I've never had a problem with the middle ones at all.

  6. I've loved all my consoles in one way or another except for my Wii. After Twilight Princess, which was not especially good, and Resi 4 which I loved to death I've packed it up until the next Zelda is released.

I was thinking the other day about how much I used to love Nintendo and the games when my only exposure was crappy screenshots in a mag. I remember how much fun I had shooting people in the headquarters through the wall in Perfect Dark with the farsight gun.

Like a lot of people, the Wii for me is more of a toy than a games console if that makes sense. I've only really played Mario Galaxy, and most of my experience with the console has been stuff like Boom Blox, Wii Sports, and the like. But I am glad the Wii is what it is, cos it's getting people into games. I'm no longer an ub3r nerd with my Gamecube playing Zelda, and Pikmin.

People are getting into gaming. My aunt got my cousin a Wii today, and they were amazed by it. By the controller, and all that jazz, but also the online (!!!!). I just wanted to shout 'NO IT'S TURD!!!!!' and point out how much better the Xbox online is and how cool this stuff could be if they only knew. But hopefully one day they will know, and these family games will just be the beginning. Hopefully there will be more games like Boom Blox and Buzz, and a few less like Carnival Games and the like, and people will better discover why it is that we like what we like.

  7. God quite a few really.

    1. Getting my girlfriend an Xbox 360 for christmas, cos she's so excited for it :-)

    2. Little Big Planet and the level editor. As soon as you start on that level you just can't stop!

    3. The hardest one really, cos there is quite a few, but Fable II has to go in here. Loved the entire game. Played it for around 6 hours the day I got it, which is the first time I've done that with a game in ages.

Special mention has to go to Banjo Nuts and Bolts and vehicle creator, World of Goo (not played enough yet, but loving it so far), Boom Blox (Can't wait to get this out over christmas), and Price of Persia (again, only just started but really enjoying it so far). Left 4 Dead would no doubt make this list as I absolutely loved the demo, and I'm getting it christmas eve :-)

An excellent year of games in my opinion. I just wish i had chance to play those games I still haven't got round to finishing. Still need to play Zelda PH, Okami, GTA4, Half Life 2, and god knows how many others. it's never ending.

  8. Just played a dead space level by bears something. Best thing I have ever seen, be sure to check it out really, its amazing.

Its in my hearted levels if you wanna look for it that way.

I played a Dead Space level too. I think it's the only one I've seen that was rated 5 stars. Was seriously cool. The amount of time taken to make that must be epic.

  9. Edge gave this a lowly 5/10. I decided to give it a miss for now, as only recently started Assassins Creed and there are similarities between the two.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the fact that if I mess something up I can try again. Why would I want to redo a whole load of it every time I mess up? I like the combat system, that looks really good. And I really wish there were more games with this graphical style, it really is one of my favourites.

It's good so far, and the lack of major difficulty isn't bothering me in the slightest.

I found Assassins Creed to be tedious beyond belief, and everything that was crap in that game is not in this one so far.

  10. Is it just me or the user created levels have improved in quality dramatically?

They might have done, but it might just be that levels that are actually cool are in the cool levels page now. I will be publishing my level at some point this week. I've got no time all week, with work for 3 days, and being with my girlfriend, and I've got World of Goo and Prince of Persia to play at some point.

It's still too short, but I don't know what else to do in it. I'm gonna add another little bit in there then stick my score board in there, and publish it.

  11. I have actually gotten back into this and am trying to complete the story mode. Up to The Collectors level stuck in the bunker where there is this massive wheel can get quite close to the bottom but not all the way through it.

Yeah man, those collector levels are pretty sodding irritating.

I'll just add a little bit more to my level probably on Monday, then I'm gonna make a copy and put up a test for some people to try. If you all think it's crap then I'm gonna stop trying :p

I think it's not too bad for a first try though. Not a patch on a lot of the levels out there. Seems to be a lot easier to find the decent stuff now on the menu. A lot of 4 star levels on that 'Cool Level's' page. Before there was a load of crap on there.

  12. Just got this today. Enjoying it so far. Weird though, I set a destination on the map thing then it showed me where to go yet the ground just wasn't there. I tried jumping but I just fell to be saved. I thought I was being retarded and just not getting it, but I quit, reloaded the save and the ground was there this time and I could just run along where I was supposed to go. :s

This happened to anyone else? I'm playing the PS3 version.

  13. Are you talking in general or about the issue of suspending any material in the air? I think the easier method is to make a thin plane of Dark Matter and whack it in the background. After just place the material in front and hold down 'x' to stick it and hey presto.

But yeah it can be hard to get things to work exactly like you plan - I've had to compromise by level somewhat.

Yeah there is that, but mostly just little things I wanted to do but couldn't figure out how. I think with more practice I'll get better.

  14. My level is kinda naff lol. I just played quite a good one and it made me realise how lacking in creativity I am :p Not only that but I'm still finding it difficult to do what I want in create mode. It's kind of annoying that I can't just stick stuff where I want to.
