What sort of timeframe are you looking at from Microsoft receiving your Xbox for repair and sending it back out? How long has it taken for you lot? My girlfriends getting L4D today and I want my Xbox back to play with her :p
-
I've played the demo 3 times now. I want it now dammit! Is everyone online an absolute master already? Cos if it's gonna be run around, die, run around, die I may not play online for that long :p

Am I the only one that doesn't like the idea of everything becoming digital? I love the idea of having all digital games on PSP as I would take the device around with me, in the same way I like having an iPod with all my songs. But I kind of like having my collections of games and movies and everything. :p

Only one of those was designed to be played on a DualShock, so considering I was responding to Domstercool's suggestion that I might not be familiar with the controller I fail to see where you're going with that comment.
I have no problem with the pace, in fact I prefer it; I always played Hardcore CoD4 because I'm not a fan of twitch shooters. My problem with Killzone 2 is that I don't feel the aiming is calibrated well. If you want to be able to turn quickly — pretty much vital for close-quarters combat — then you need to ramp the sensitivity up, but this means that it's hard to make finer adjustments. Couple this with the complete absence of any kind of aim-assist — a vital ingredient in the feel of Halo, CoD4, and pretty much every modern shooter designed to be played on a pad — and you're left with an aiming mechanic that's manageable but not as satisfying as the meticulously modelled weapon models and audio deserves.
It actually is a lot like Perfect Dark Zero, as whilst medium- to long-distance combat is largely workable as soon as two people get close it becomes a question of who can land the most flailing bullets first. I see that as a failure of design and a barrier to fun, and I can guarantee you that I am not alone in that view.
I meant that no matter how attractive it is, it doesn't make up for its lack of personality and aloofness. It's a good game, but if a bit more effort had been put into areas other than the presentation it could have been a fantastic one that people would look back on fondly in 10 years time.
I understand that Guerilla were placed under enormous pressure to live up to the early pre-rendered footage, and they've done an excellent job at a technical level. Unfortunately that question — "Does this look like the target render?" — seems to have been the overriding one asked during development, leaving more important ones — such as, "Are we making a fun and engaging videogame?" — somewhat at the wayside.
Anyway, as this is the second time I've had to write this damn post due to our new ever-so-reliable server, I'm done. I feel I've explained myself quite thoroughly, and if you disagree then you disagree.
I'm only going off the demo so far, but I agree with some of what you said that aiming in close combat feels a bit weird. The again I found mid range shooting easier than some other games so far. I did really enjoy the demo though, so I'm going to pick up the full game tomorrow.
The aiming does seem a bit weird, but I wouldn't say it's really bad, more sort of different than anything.
This was the first demo in a long time where when it ended I wanted to play more of it right away. I'm looking forward to playing it tomorrow If my girlfriend let's me... :p

I'm replaying flower again, trying for the Pure trophy, seeing if I can get that before deciding whether to try and 100% it. The thing is when I'm tilting my pad upwards to go as high as I can get to avoid all the falling crap, I get higher then suddenly dip down and go right into the sodding things obviously meaning I don't get the trophy. The guide I'm looking at on how to do it says, just go as high as possible and don't press any buttons and it's easy, but I'm just falling into stuff. Anyone got any ideas?

I finished Flower just, which I thought was a really impressive game. Looked so amazing, especially by the end. Once it had done the credits it was saving when I made the mistake of hitting the ps button loading the XMB. It made my PS3 become unresponsive apart being able to quit the game, but when I did that it restarted my whole PS3. Now when I go onto Flower only the first flower is there, and my saved data is corrupt

Yeah, LG have admitted it's a known issue with this TV. Now got a Samsung one, which is very nice. No vibration.

Well, I had a good run but after 2 years I've finally got RRoD. Had my first box for 6 months before it developed a fault and it kept crashing. This time it only crashed twice before the lights started blinking.
My girlfriend was playing Left 4 Dead when it suddenly froze. Rebooted and went through a menu for like 2 seconds and it froze again. Rebooted yet again and same thing happened immediately. Next time I tried to start it up it just blinked those damn lights at me.
It's times like this that make you glad to own a Playstation 3.
-
Well the vibrating sound was doing my head in so I went to replace it and the one I replaced it with is the same so I'm taking it back and replacing it.

Nah Mine's an old 360 :p

Well and truly fed up with this game now. I have bits in my level that keep breaking the entire thing. I have a jet pack that keeps falling off the wall and then the entire floor starts shaking and bits move and fall over. It's stuck down, I made sure of it. Then I moved it and the same happened to the floor. The I made sure the floor was stuck down to some dark matter. But when I moved it some fire stuff at the bottom of a slope has moved. Went to move that but for some reason trying to move that moves the entire fecking ground. I can't even be arsed with it anymore.

Only problem is having to switch between Xbox 360 and Wii on component.
-
I just a had a quick go of the first level. It's the kind of game you have to 'get' and I can see a load of people thinking its complete shit. My girlfriend thought it was lame and couldn't believe she'd just spent £6 on it for me.
I quite like it though, in the same way I liked flOw, just to sit down and play for 5-10 minutes as a kind of chill out game. It's just what I've been looking for the last couple of weeks, as I've been getting a bit sick of shooters.
-
Dunno, I've tried changing various settings on Wii and the TV and nothing has worked. It's just so weird cos it works fine on another TV. I think I might have to buy a component cable, hopefully I wont have the same problem with that.
-
Lol I was just about to say the Help button will do it :p
Anyone got any ideas what the code is for the 32LG3000 tv with a Sky HD remote?
-
OK, so got myself a new TV last week, which I love except for the weird problem of it vibrating on low base sounds :p
Anyway, I tried hooking my Wii up earlier to do a bit of Wii Fit :p and it wont display properly. It's a bit fuzzy and crappy like I haven't plugged in the cable properly. I initially thought it was a TV problem so tried my Dreamcast through scart which worked perfectly. I tried the Wii on my dads TV and it works perfectly. Yet I try with my TV again and it doesn't work.
Anyone got any ideas why this could be? I mean everything points to all things working fine, but then it just wont display on my TV when all used together.
-
I'm back in the PS3 game after my Xbox was making some horrible noises.
Don't think I'll be changing again so add me if you like.
NegativeCharge
Whats wrong with having both?
Got a new 32" HDTV at the weekend. So much better than my last HDTV, anyone saying they can't tell the difference between blu ray and DVD needs to get a better TV :p
-
Depends on retailer. Though ntor eally important since they are only afew punds and you can choose your best fit e.g flat cable for wall mounts or extra length etc.
But lets be honest, for something that is marketed as a high definition console, it should be included in the damn box.
-
Same here, looks pretty fucking cool. I don't have anywhere near as many Wii games as 360 games, so when something cool and different comes along I usually pick it up.
-
That's what I was like but in the end it is just so much cheaper for me.
Give it a try. I used to like owning a game but when you realise how easy it is to rent any game you want you stop really caring. I'll buy some games, like KillZone 2 and Heavy Rain, but stuff like Resistance 2 and Mirror's Edge were great for a week or two.
Heavenly Sword is awesome. I think the bosses are annoying.
You're talking to man who most likely has OCD here :p There are certainly games I would like to rent, Mirrors Edge and Dead Space in particular, but at the end of the day if I liked them I would want to buy them anyway.
And yeah I thought the bosses in HS were a bit annoying, but I generally found I had enough health left to beat them. Only one I had any trouble with was the 3rd section of the final boss in the game, and that was mostly just learning how to time the counter when he fires them things at you, and keeping a better eye on which colour it was, and also ignoring the fact that there were hundreds of enemies blocking your view for the first half of it. :p

Might look into this. I am half way. Its a huge game. Focused on trying to do the online. Its hardly letting me go up now
Yeah Blu Ray is a high margin product so some will push the barriers. Plus in these times its a good source of income.
Strongly recommend trialing out lovefilm.com Even if you think its not for you. Trying it out will make you sure plus you save money.
Lots of CES media for games. Killzone 2 and Infamous look great.
I was gonna go for lovefilm.com but I like to own stuff. If I enjoyed a game I will always keep it even if I know I'm not going to play it much again.
Finally finished Heavenly Sword after not playing it for months and months. The last 2 chapters were pretty short, but I thought it was a pretty good game actually. I really enjoyed the cut scenes and didn't find the combat too bad, which could be cos I didn't play it in long stretches. I thought the stances were interesting.
I have now finished 4 of my 7 PS3 games That's very unlike me :p

About a week ago I got the Blue plate (last one for me). Is it me or is there no difference between blue and red? I did the training and I didn't get it, you just bounce around in exactly the same way. I've given mine a rest for now as I can't be arsed to go back to it. It's a shame really as this game has potential to be so much more but I feel you just run from one area to the next. In fact there's speed run achievements for just that.
Yeah, Ubisoft can't seem to make a full game, they make 30 minutes and then apply it to 12 hours. I enjoyed the first hour of Assassins Creed but then it got samey. Ultimately I found that game to be hugely irritating whereas this I haven't thankfully.
-
You can get Fallout 3 for £20 on Amazon.

Finished the game. I loved it when I started playing, then started liking it less and less until the game was extremely boring. Ubisoft have done Assassin's Creed all over again - I'll be sure to ignore any promising-looking games from them in the future.
As you get used to the controls it feels as if you have less and less control over the Prince. He does what he wants to do (for a few light seeds I had to literally battle his automated moves...speaking of light seeds, was it just me or did you need to kill yourself to get some of them?). The biggest problem is that the game just punishes you for trying to experiment or explore.
The combat starts of poor and just gets more annoying as you get through the game. Plus you fight 6 different enemies in the whole game.
As for the final battle...it was just annoying and difficult for all the wrong reasons - mainly the atrocious camera. Plus it mainly took place on vines (which are the worst thing in the game as they just absolutely spoil the flow of things).
The power plates throughout the game also seemed extremely cheap. Two of them were the same and are basically just warps. The flying one would have looked cool but they decided to put the ugly blue effect covering most of the screen so you can't see the lovely views, plus some of the paths seemed utterly pointless. The wall running one was cool, but was annoying in that in some places you needed to move before you saw something.
Back to the ending...it seemed unfinished. The Prince is still smiling after Elika dies, and the small areas you corrupt by hitting the trees looked like Spider-man spewed all over it when you stepped outside the area. Plus it felt as if the whole game was for absolutely nothing.
An extremely disappointing game.
I'm not even half way yet but I agree with the first bit of what you said. I have found that I am liking it less than I did at first. I feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again. I also feel like the combat is hella dull. It's just attack block, attack block.
I'm still enjoying running around the environments and that though. I'm not enjoying that flying round crap though. I can barely see anything then if I hit anything I have to redo it. Hella annoying.

I'm loving this game so far. Totally worth it. I'm really getting used to the aiming and controls. I'm actually finding it easier to aim with the weighty aiming, as I usually find that when I aim in other games I always go a bit too far, but I'm a bit better in this game. Some of the cover stuff can be a bit frustration but it definitely works better than something like FEAR.
Still, I've done the first 2 levels and really want to play some more which is always a good sign.
