  1. Whats Your System Made out of ?

AMD xp64 3500+ (for now) 2GB PC3200 corsair ram 3200c2PT 2*80GB HDD zalman cnps9500led asus a8n-sli platinum Audigy 2 620W liberty PSU from enermax (modular) nvidia 7800gtx 512MB (just a matter of time before i get my hands on this.)
  2. Sony takes DRM waaay too far

Rightly so. I mean if the law comes down harshly on virus and spyware writers, as it rightly should, sony should be no exception. IMO sonys DRM is exactly the same as spyware and the company should be treated no differently to how the law treats virus and spyware creators.
  3. 10BaseT

10baseT is an ethernet standard. It means 10Mbps running on a twisted pair cable. Other standards include 100baseT, which is the same as 10baseT but runs at 100Mbps. You get two type UTP (Unshielded Twisted pair) and STP(Shielded twisted pair) The reason for the wires being twisted together is so there is no crosstalk between the wires. Crosstalk corrupts the data. Crosstalk occurs when noise from one wire bleeds into another one. Used to happen on telephone lines when you were in the middle of a call and all of a sudden you hear some other strangers voice interfering with your call. Shielded cables such as STP shield the cable from even more noise from external sources. Mainly used when trailing cables near to high output electrical sources that produce alot of magnetic interference and such.
  4. Yeah I know what you mean but what card would you say is good to get this or next year, which would last me for a few good years to say the least. Lets say I have a budget of around £300 to £360.
  5. HL2 Lost Coast - Out now! 56k

My bad. Anyway have you played it. If so what card have you played LC on.
  6. HL2 Lost Coast - Out now! 56k

What card was this run on and how fast did it run with hdr.
  7. I don't want to seem like I know anything about cards. I am just saying what I think, from what I have read and heard. I just want to know which one you would go for and why. Reason being, and I need a good one, because I am thinking of getting a new card and I need to know which is good and why? So that I can justify the cost of a £300+ card. EDIT: need the card to be future proof thats all.
  8. Yeah I know but x1800xt was design so that this framerate hit isn't such a hugh issue. It won't be such of a performance drain as it is on the 7800. Thats all im saying.
  9. its all true i mean have you tried to switch anti-alising on on nvidia cards while hdr is on, frame rate drops bad.
  10. Yeah I know but you have to remember that all these reviews and stuff were done by comparing the nvidia 7800gtx to a refernce design ati x1800xt running on beta drivers and even then the ati almost matched the nvidia. Just imagine what the final revision will be able to do. And besides the ati is the only card right now that can do hdr and anti-alising with little performance hit. Nvidia cant even do that. And beside for lost coast, which should be out now, the ati card will storm all over the nvidia because you can have both hdr and antilising, unlike the nvidia where you can only have one or the other. I know i sound like an ati fanboy, but take my word for it im not. I dont even own an ati card right now. The only reason i say all this is beacuse i have used and seen nvidia cards in action and IMO i rekon ati is better, not always, but most of the time.
  11. HL2 Lost Coast - Out now! 56k

man i'm so loooking forward to this.
  12. Best PC game ever?

Best games I think are indiana jones and the fate of atlantis, full throttle, Day of the tentacle, The dig. Man those games rocked.
  13. DEP codec problem.

Found this in winXP help. Don't know if it will help. To turn Data Execution Prevention on or off for a program If you turn off Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for a specific program, it might become vulnerable to attack. A successful attack could then spread to other programs on your computer, to your contacts, and damage your personal files. If you suspect that a program does not run correctly when DEP is turned on, check for a DEP-compatible version or update from the software publisher before you change any DEP settings. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure. To open System Properties, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. Click the Advanced tab and, under Performance, click Settings. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab. In the Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select list, do one of the following: To turn off DEP for a program, select the check box next to the program name and click OK. (If the name of the program doesn't appear in the list, click Add, navigate to your Program Files folder, select the program's executable file which will have an .exe file extension, and click OK). – or – To turn on DEP for a program, clear the check box next to the program name, and then click OK.
  14. you know i've read reviews and thing comparing the nvidia 7800gtx to the x1800xt and saying the nvidia was better. Wonder what those reviewers would say now. Wonder what all those nvidia fanboys would say now. I mean they were all preaching as to how good the old 7800gtx was compared to the new x1800xt.
