  1. Living Hell.

Immortality combined with total paralysis; an eternity of utter boredom.
  2. GIF

I was listening to The Boy with the Arab Strap while browsing this thread; strangely this gif is the perfect visual accompaniment.
  3. Mock The Thread

Father's speech: "It makes me so proud, not every father gets to see both his son and daughter married on the same day......what? You didn't know?"
  4. New here...

Welcome Agent, Jjohn and Rews. I hope you all enjoy it here.
  5. Queen's visit to Ireland

Maybe he's fed up of the pigs. I hope Lizzie has a lovely holiday and doesn't die; I recommend the Guinness Storehouse and Dublin Zoo if she's stuck for things to do.
  6. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn

Was that Tintin in Tibet? I went to see an adaptation of that for stage a few years back; it was fantastic. Anyway BOO-YAH, first I've heard of this and the production team working on it makes me do little jig of excitement. Collected pretty much all the Tintin books when I was little and loved watching the cartoon boxset at university, the voice work was hilarious. I can't remember, does Secret of the Unicorn feature my favourite villain Allan? Also I guess there must be plans for a sequel based on Red Rackham's Treasure.
  7. GIF

I remember years back Dabookerman had a thread where there was challenge to help Mr Stickman cross a pit. Redshell won the thread with his gifs I seem to recall, but I had a go. Thing was it was more fun to just kill the guy. Wish I could find that thread; there was some good stuff there.
  8. Beware of homosexuals

Hmmm, interesting. So homosexuals are like a cross between pod people and zombies and they spread their disease through staring. Well you learn something new everyday, I'm concerned about what happened to poor Jimmy though; is he now one of them?
  9. How many IMDb top 250 films have you seen

115 pour moi, checked films were getting pretty thin on the ground below the 200 mark. Still quite a lot of films I really should see but never have there, like the Godfather 2 (first one bored me (ooh controvesial)), Wall-E and the some big classics (Casablanca and Gone with the Wind). I was surprised by some of the top 250, Black Swan in the top 100....really? I guess this is IMDB though, new films always get a big boost in rating before slipping down.
  10. N-E Picture Caption Game

"Mike, you're a genius. There's absolutely no chance of getting a build up of mildew on the ceiling now."
  11. Soft cubey, warm cubey, little cube of fur.

    Phil says happy birthday.
  12. Festivals 2011!

To be honest none of the big festival line-ups seem to be getting me excited this year. DFA1979 I'd love to see live, but with the rest of Reading there's not a whole lot there I'd be desperate to see. Glastonbury has Coldplay, Beyonce and U2 ; there is so much on elsewhere so that can be avoided, but for the price of the ticket I'm unconvinced this year. To be honest the most interesting I've seen is Latitude so I might give that a go especially after hearing Deerhunter will be there.
  13. Jokes (HA HA HA HA HA ... ha)

What's the best country to be in if you have food poisoning? Tuvalu
  14. Good lyrics for a tattoo?

"Quick to the point, to the point no faking, Cookin' MC's like a pound of Bacon" or "If you try to knock me you'll get mocked, I'll stir fry you in my Wok" or "When it comes to beats I'm a fiend, I like my sugar with coffee and cream" I can't think any other rap based claims combined with food references, but that's the kind of area you want to be looking at.
  15. I hope Hollywood gets hit by a massive earthquake. I've still not forgotten Pearl Harbour and in my opinion the whole of California deserves massive karmic retribution for inflicting such a cinematic monstrosity on a unsuspecting world. Also, excellent post Flaight. I've been getting irritated by the news with their reporting. I was watching news 24 and they were having a discussion, which something like: Guest: "We must remember not to be too alarmist here as for the moment engineers in Japan say they have it under control and experts elsewhere claim that there isn't any immediate danger of a serious nuclear disaster like Chernobyl." Presenter: "Yes, but it is still a very worrying situation..." *switch off* I don't think it's just a BBC thing though; I think it's just generally journalists will lean towards the worst case scenario as it makes a better story.
  16. I'm geeking out geologically over this; for those of you who are into data: Live earthquake data in the Pacific Live Tsunami data from NOAA Blog abounding in maps and data Been following this for most of the day every now and again. Most of the action is over though; few ripples in California and Mexico. Overall the impression I get is that Japan has coped extremely well for an 8.9 magnitude earthquake. The damage could have been so much worse, but thankfully the Japanese are well prepared for an event like this.
  17. How Much Toilet Paper is TOO MUCH?

Wow, thanks to this thread and google ads I've found out that total cleaning supplies can provide me with all my UK cleaning, hygiene and janitorial supplies online. I need never leave the house or run out of loo role again. Also everyone should get a bidet; no more toilet paper and makes an interesting conversation piece.
  18. What do you have to look forward to?

My wedding on Saturday and the subsequent honeymoon. I'll be sure to fill you in on all the details in a couple of weeks.
  19. Your Favourite Movie Lines

Gordon Freeman has a bad day, in the film Falling Down.
  20. The end of the human race

You can just look for the helpful signs. Like you say it does depend on the source I guess. According to the scientist in Day of the Dead the zombies don't eat humans out of hunger or need for sustenance, out out of a basic human instinct to consume flesh. Because they operate using only the very primitive motor control function in the brain they can essentially survive anything as long as the brain is protected. Again in Day of the Dead there's a zombie with only the top half of its head remaining, yet the eyes are still moving about.
  21. The end of the human race

Hmmm, you've got sort of the same idea as me, except I'd head for Iceland. Low population, geothermal power, fresh glacial water. I seem to remember in NOTLD that there was some hinting at the cause being some form of radiation from space, but then what I loved about the Romero films is that they never really wasted time with explanations. The point was that it just happened now you have to deal with it. Also, shovel-best zombie weapon ever. You've got blunt force plus slicing action and a good range.
  22. Spending Sprees

I spent about £100 yesterday on new furnishings, £65 on a chest of drawers and then a set of stackable wicker baskets for about £20 and a CD rack for another £20. Apparantly just keeping all your clothes in cardboard boxes under the bed wasn't seen as acceptable in my girlfriends eyes. Madness! Anyway, good luck Sheikah, that sounds like it's going your wallet will take quite a hammering. It is worth it though; as much as I hate to admit it wicker baskets do look better than cardboard.
  23. Hmmm, 51. I think is 0, you tricksy begger.
  24. Can one person make a difference?

The Ecologist did an article about this subject a while back that I remember reading. To sum up there conclusion, yes red meat is usually pretty unsustainable. However, this only really applied for animals that were being intensively farmed and raised on a diet of grain. For locally farmed animals, raised on a natural grass based diet the environmental impact was negligible. I have friends who are vegan and while I admire their stand I don't feel it to be strictly necessary. What I do is usually try to pick vegetarian options when they're available, however if I'm offered meat I wont refuse it on the basis it's just wasting food. With vegetables, I'll try to make sure I only buy British produce, or at the minimum European, to try and cut down the transportation. The main problem is that I'll soon be moving back to Birmingham from Oxford, which makes being sustainable a lot harder. Birmingham council are shite, they don't have any general recycling scheme or composting scheme like Oxford. Might write to them about that and try to prove one person can make a difference in small way.
  25. Spending Sprees

I find myself doing that as well very often. My problem though is that before I walk in I have a list of loads of albums I want in my head. My mind then suddenly goes blank and I come home, look in my shopping bag and think "why the hell did I buy these?" My spending sprees will have to end for the time being since my job ended last week. I did buy an expensive set of drawers yesterday though, which is suckily practical.
