  1. Wii U General Discussion

Haha! Cheers dude, you totally made my day.
  2. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

Right, I didn't know where to post this but here seems good as Smash is really where this character's home is: Zero Suit Samus I'm a massive Metroid fan and I genuinely think that Samus' is one of gamings greatest female characters. She's the interective Ellen Ripley for gods' sake! I very much like the way that Samus handles without her power suit and I totally fangasmed when you got to play as her in Zero Mission (probably why it's my favourite 2D Metroid, after SM obviously). But I've become increasing uncomfortable and a little frustrated by the way that she is portrayed outside of the suit. For a couple of reasons. 1) For me Samus should not be a skinny blonde white chick. Ever since she turned up in Brawl and the internet went mental for shopping her naked, it's become clear that Nintendo is trying to use her as a bit of a hot piece of ass. She's very slight with massive knockers (which in this generation seem to be getting rid of the under-boob a little). I'd prefer someone that reflects her personality in the suit a bit more. Frankly a bit more Ripley-ish and with auburn hair! 2) Her expression. To portray her properly you have to see her react to her situation in an emotional and relative way. She has spent far too long being essentially an emotionless mask who barely smiles, grimaces, expresses relief, pain, genuine sadness etc. For me this massively needs to change to make her a proper character. 3) I'm not going to dwell on this too much but Other M ruined her as a character in a lot of ways for me. They wrote her as a boring, snivelling, self-centred, nonotonous child. I didn't care or feel attached to the bungled story or experience that the game was meant to communicate. Any one feel the same? Can I ask that we not make this entirely about Other M?
  3. Splatoon

I think we're on the same page about this. By worrying, I meant Nintendo are worrying me about being so blind.
  4. Splatoon

That's so worrying. How could communication disrupt things? People are social creatures that want to work together.
  5. That was rubbish. The only interesting bit was about Japanese company control and then they just meandered about nothing for ages, stating the obvious rubbish. They didn't go anywhere near things like Phoenix Wright and Ghost Trick which have done pretty well as mobile games, which totally contradicts a lot of what they stated. All I can say about the situation is that if my company was to buy Capcom, I'd be wanting to go in there to get shit sorted out. Their brand abuse is horrendous and some of the creative direction (or lack of it) is incredibly telling.
  6. Wii U General Discussion

I'm not being aggressive but have somehow managed to upset you. I would apologise but I'm having trouble understanding what about my factual information upsets you. Ummm sorry?
  7. Wii U General Discussion

In your original post you said that Nintendo would put in a different control scheme. I was just giving an example where they didn't as I think they won't.
  8. Wii U General Discussion

    Skyward Sword says hi.
  9. Star Fox Zero

I'm not sure about this... games have moved on vastly since the SNES/N64 games and I've been thinking about what made them great back then. And to a point it all comes down to being about action and agility in the air. What is being described still feels like it's going to be clunky and kind of laboured. Take below as a contrast. This is Strike Vector, a game made by 9 developers in 15 months. It's extremely fast and frantic and just feels more like what StarFox should be getting closer to:
  10. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

Because they're working on a new Metroid? :p
  11. Mario Kart 8

Sorry what? Other people should stop voicing their opinions about what for them is a genuine omission in the game design just so other can maintain a falsely inflated sense of "hype"? That's the worst thing I've read on here in ages. Essentially you've just suggested that everyone shut up so as not to wake the ostriches with their heads in the ground please.
  12. Wii U and Virgin Media

You're most likely having issues with the NAT masquerade and it screwing around with the ports. I would recommend one of these: https://www.msdist.co.uk/product_AirRouter.php They're great, I have lots of experience with them and they actually do what you program them to do, not just take it as a suggestion. You will want to check that you can actually use the superhub as just a modem though... Virgin get upset about that if I remember correctly as they like to remotely access your unit.
  13. Wii U General Discussion

Yes, the public are indeed flocking to the console for the epic library. Or are they either: 1) Enjoying the wealth of content on other platforms 2) Still playing the classic Nintendo franchises on other platforms Your view of the games library may be that it's reasonable but I'm enjoying indie games on PC for £15 each or less on a semi regular basis that make Nintendo's offerings look dull and samey. And I can't believe we are actually arguing about this. You may be happy with the status quo but the sales figures aren't that way by accident.
  14. Wii U General Discussion

Because people are buying more of those consoles? A lack of new game experiences, any kind of game library or any feature to the be considered a KSP? You can't have fun if there are no games to play. I'm not throwing insults, I'm just surprised that people are still accepting false logic or excuse-mongering. It's a poor show by Nintendo and there is very little evidence to show that this is going to change soon, especially when we have so much evidence to back up how they float their entire console on promises and no substance. Please understand.... You're talking about potential? I'm talking about substance, games I can actually play and a price point that I don't feel ashamed to pay. Until the big hitters actually arrive, Nintendo is just selling you guys magic beans with a console whose features even they don't want to support.
  15. Wii U General Discussion

Um, what? Do we want to start exploring the fact that a £4-500 PC could run rings around a Wii U when it launched? Do you want to keep trying to justify that price tag nearer the end of the generation on top of all of the cheap games? Nintendo have categorically stated that they are not going to compete in the graphics arms race and now they are showing that they aren't even going to compete in the gameplay arms race either. Here's a question. What new does the Wii U bring to the table that makes it new? And I'm talking features that say "oh god, if you like games then you HAVE to try this" kind of features, not the pitiful justifications that Serebii is making. The detachment from reality concerning value judgements for anyone but the most indoctrinated is getting worrying around here.
  16. Mario Kart 8

Yes, cos that is going to take away so much from Nintendo's poor online infrastructure. They are almost legendary for showing no expertise on executing a solid online experience of any complexity whatsoever. People talk about a Pokémon MMO and I've joined you in the past in saying that it will never happen for various reasons. One of them is that Nintendo doesn't have the skills in-house to build an MMO infrastructure. Framerate differences can be compensated for with good server programming (the variety in connection speeds alone requires this) but let's not dance around the fact that this is being imposed because it's something that Nintendo can't make happen, not that it couldn't be done.
  17. Wii U General Discussion

Wow... just, I don't... nope. Flink you're never going to convince someone that is irrational as Serebii who ignores the reality and opinion of everyone else that plays games to listen to the little voice in his own head that invents justification for Nintendo's actions. I've been away for the best part of 2 months? The same record is still playing, the arguments are still the same and for this I only see one solution. Vote with your money people. The 3DS is a great system now which deserves a well earned purchase. The Wii U has a long way to go but many of us bought it on launch and are less than happy with it. We all need to learn to stop trusting Nintendo to deliver anything they promise and only drop our cash when the goods are delivered.
  18. Er ok... I don't agree with anything that he posted just there.
  19. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

Honestly couldn't give a toss about the features of the Wii U version. Lay 3DS detail on me plz. No but they would show you a whole bunch of features and footage, announce that it will no longer be coming in 2014 swiftly followed by "please understand"... You could look at that as a feature reveal. Or you could look at it with some scepticism of PR bullshit and see it for what it would be: a delay announcement. Can we all please stop skimming over the fact that Nintendo are awful when it comes to keeping to release schedules? The way they handle releases and their "window" has become an industry joke and they do massively delay big titles (usually for the right reasons). EDIT: Sorry... by "we all" I mean Serebii.
  20. Why N-Europe?

I've been mulling this over a lot recently and I suppose this is my question: Why do you come to N-Europe.com? The answer may seem obvious on a superficial level but I'm sure everyone has their own slightly different reasons. I think most people come for the forums but are you and avid front page reader? Do you come here to find people similar to you, or perhaps to find those with differing opinions? Are you here simply to squeeeeeee at Nintendo stuff and express your happiness? What would make come here more? Why do you come here rather than anywhere else? Who are those members of the community that make it all worth it? Answers on the back of a postcard!
  21. Extra Life 2014

I was going to try and help you with your internet issues and what help I can give depends on where you are but seeing as you persistently want to be a tool about it and somehow feel entitled to support from people without them questioning it, you can go swivel. Why would I want to help you when you're behaving like that? I've never said what you guys are doing is bad, I've tried to understand why you are doing it and apparently that offends you... as a person that is volunteering my help, I have the right to do so and frankly, as a someone that is raising for charity, you should be grateful for every scrap of help you get. I'm running a charity event on Saturday and if people ignore us or don't contribute to the event then that's our fault for delivering the message properly not their because we think their stupid or not compassionate. @flameboy, not once have you asked me a question about how I can help and you're getting angry with me for not giving you that information. I had no idea that you wanted me to be clearer so that's just as much your fault for not bringing that up. This will be my last post in this thread, as despite offering some help it's now wasting my time having to justify why I should help you.
  22. Extra Life 2014

It's ok, I fully understand what you originally posted and it informed me about how the organisation works. It would probably be a good idea for you as a team to address that issue though, as if it's turning sponsors away then there might be room to improve on delivering the message. But yeah, sure you've got this in the bag ;-) Carry on...
  23. Who are SpecialEffect? So as part of the StreetPass Banbury events calendar @bluey has decided to combine our MarioKart 7 tournament with a special fundraising session for an organisation called SpecialEffect. The charity is dedicated to designing new control schemes or completely new controllers for people (not just kids!) that have handicaps that stop them from enjoying games like everyone here. It's hugely important work with inclusiveness as it's major philosophy. It's liberated so many people from the physical and social obstacles that restrict them from sharing and enjoying in a way that most of us take for granted. Here are some great videos that you might want to look at to give you an idea: So there's a big variety of work going on including working directly with developers to include support for alternative controllers directly in their engines. http://www.specialeffect.org.uk/ What are we doing? On the 22nd of February, we will be holding a super huge raffle with some great Nintendo prizes, kindly donated by several different organisations including Nintendo themselves. Our aim is to raise over £500 through this, general appeals and possibly some other fund raising events. The event is entirely family friendly so if you have liddlies or you are a liddly then bring your clan Any questions then come visit our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/streetpassbanbury/ How can people help? Gift: At the moment, we are still trying really hard to get more stuff for the raffle. If there's anything that says "Nintendo!" that you would be willing to sacrifice to a good cause then we would be incredibly greatful! Donate: If any of the videos or the content of their website have inspired you enough to help the cause then please donate to our Just Giving page to help us hit our target. http://www.justgiving.com/StreetPass-Banbury Participate: Come to Banbury! Play Mario games! Enter the raffle! Win awesome stuff! Seriously though, seeing N-E people there would be excellent. Honestly, any support from the community would be great. Get in touch! .
  24. Why N-Europe?

Thanks @Rummy and @jayseven , your comments are much appreciated. I pretty much well agree with you jay about dramatic leavings. I think my aim with this thread was to get some feedback on how people felt about this place and put my views into perspective with that. I hope that my post doesn't come across as queeny but more a "so long and thanks for all the fish".
  25. Extra Life 2014

@flameboy - I have contacts in telecoms and internet infrastructure as it's part of my business. I actually asked you a totally innocent question based on the information that I had about Extra Life and I'm glad Goafer answered before you did. Don't treat me like a dick or call me weird because I don't know anything about what you're doing. I'm trying to be supportive through understanding why you guys are doing what you do as, from the way you post about it, you assume that I should know what this is all about already. Being defensive and preachy is putting me right off.
