  1. PC Gaming Discussion

Yup. I got all of the expansions and the game for £7.50 off Steam a couple of months back. I bought Borderlands at launch but sold it after a while and I no longer have my saves so a new character is needed sadly. My current one might have an hour or two of game time tops.
  2. PC Gaming Discussion

I'm up for that. New characters?
  3. The 'Illuminati' / whatever.

Being totally honest, I'm sceptical. However, the website is put together well and whoever is writing is certainly quite knowledgeable and intelligent (which is far more than I was expecting and more than you normally get from a conspiracy site). I'll give it more of a read tomorrow.
  4. PC Gaming Discussion

I guess it's off by default on higher settings because those are the settings most likely to pull a framerate under 60fps.
  5. PC Gaming Discussion

Turn V-Sync on? Should do the trick.
  6. Game of Thrones

For the peeps who have read the books and watched the series; is 'A Game of Thrones' a necessary read if I want to plough on ahead with the series? Are there plot lines/characters missing from the TV show that would make reading A Clash of Kings confusing? I'm not keen on reading A Game of Thrones if the series covered everything important and significant.
  7. Game of Thrones

Watched the last two episodes back-to-back last night. Episode 9 was jaw-dropping. 10, not so much (and kinda predictable as said).
  8. Veganism

I don't really get the point. Vegetarianism, sure. Cruelty to animals and all that jazz. I don't agree, but I can see where they're coming from. Veganism... egg and dairy farms exploit animals (Sure, OK. Can't disagree with that...) therefore we should stop eating eggs and dairy products. WTH? Just source your eggs and dairy more responsibly. Picking an unfertilised egg up off the ground that some hen has laid is hardly exploitation. Buy some chickens, keep them as pets, give them a good life, eat the eggs. I do not get the exploitation problem there. Similar story with small-scale seasonal production of milk. I know quite a few Vegetarians (including my mother) and can cook some pretty awesome vegetarian meals. I'd struggle to go veggie for more than a few days though, it's all just stodge. After a few days I find myself falling back on eggs and nuts to put some texture back in, and shortly after that I've got a dirty big rib steak sat on my plate that's been slow cooked for 12 hours at 50'C, then slapped on a ridiculously hot grill for 2 minutes each side to char the outsides. About that time I remember why I will never be a veggie. Ahh, good times. Pretty sure it was the shop I work in that she wanted to blow up though. Thinking about it now, blowing up all that meat would result in more animals dying to replace the ones destroyed by the bomb. Irony, much?
  9. Questions

Your posts say; "Last edited by The Mad Monkey; Today at" See here: http://n-europe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1344394&postcount=2349 Just to be clear, I found that post by looking at your post history. As I said, either you're taking the piss or you need to change your password. Or both. Assuming it's one of the admins is just stupid; I'm sure they'd sooner ban you than waste their time editing your posts.
  10. Questions

Would it stop you whining if I said I did it? Though it should be noted, when you edit someone's post it leaves and "Edited by..." bit at the bottom. Yes, even for moderators and admins. So from what we can tell, one of two things happened; 1. You did it yourself. 2. Your account has been hacked in to. If I could edit other people's posts in this forum it would be easy enough to demonstrate, however I can't.

Calm down? Kiss and make up? Or infractions? Which would you like first?
  12. No Confidence

http://www.noconfidence.org.uk/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jun/08/david-willetts-oxford-no-confidence I haven't seen anything on this here so I figured I'd start up a thread. I don't honestly think the campaign will have any real effect, but IMO it's worth signing up for anyway. The new tuition fee system (along with many other new policies relating to University) are a load of bollocks. Sure, there's problems with the current system, like an over-saturated graduate job market, but pricing people out of the University system isn't the way forward.
  13. E3 Is Over. Your Thoughts?

That was my point. They covered their three big, active and exclusive franchises. All the others are currently inactive, are vapourware or else have been abandoned by Microsoft due to a lack of success.
  14. E3 Is Over. Your Thoughts?

I think it's probably got more to do with the number of studios they've lost/closed over the past few years. FASA Studios, Carbonated Games, Ensemble Studios, ACES Game Studios have all been closed by Microsoft, Bizarre Creations were closed by Activision. This leaves Microsoft with Lionhead, Rare and Turn 10 Studios as being the only MGS studios with any experience of releasing traditional games. Every other studio was opened with Kinect, Windows Phone or XBLA in mind. Rare have been reinvented as Microsoft's lead Kinect studio (curiously there was nothing from them at E3...) so they won't be working on regular games for quite some time, and Peter Molyneux has lapped up the Kinect project, his studio was already going that way. That leaves Turn 10, who have only ever done Forza games. Oh, and 343 Industries, a new studio made up of ex-Bungie staffers. They've opened 3 new studios this year, but their games likely won't see the light of day until the Xbox 360's successor. The only exclusive games that Microsoft could have shown, other than Halo, Forza and Kinect games, are the Alan Wake and Too Human sequels that are being worked on. Too many eggs in one basket?
  15. Cheapest way into 3D gaming? (passive 3D)

Passive has been around for ages, it just never caught on because it halves the horizontal resolution of the screen and is generally quite bad when it comes to ghosting. There's been passive 3D PC monitors since the mid-90's.
  16. E3 Is Over. Your Thoughts?

I enjoyed it. Then again, my expectations weren't high. E3 isn't what it used to be. When I was growing up E3 was the place where 90% of big gaming announcements were made. These days there's far more trade shows for these companies to make their announcements, E3 has become less important. What I do know is that I'll now be picking up a Kinect. The price has dropped enough that I was already considering it, and the titles shown look like they could be good fun with the missus/for drunk times with friends. Sony yet again showed off software that I want, but yet again I probably won't pick up any of their consoles due to lack of time/budget. The WiiU blew me away, despite not being full thought through yet. Seems like an amazing concept (with a really dire name) and I will most likely pick one up at launch for family fun

    Try overclockers.co.uk, hexus.net or overclock.net
  18. PS3 or Xbox 360

I guess bathing in money must be painful... Kinect has now sold 10 Million units worldwide and driven a massive acceleration in Xbox 360 hardware sales (the biggest since the console's launch). If that's pain then colour me a sadist.

Nup. Stumped. You tried asking elsewhere?

What board and RAM did you get in the end?
  21. X-Men: First Class

I thought most of the mutant cast were really underwhelming/badly written/badly chosen. Xavier, Erik and Raven were bang on the money. Ms Frost wasn't too bad either. Beast, on the other hand, was appalling. To skinny, too emo and the make-up was dire. He didn't look fierce or intimidating, he just looked angsty - like he needed a good slap. The rest of them were completely 'meh' and uninspiring either way. I enjoyed the film, and it's probably my favourite X-Men film to date, but it could (and should) have been so much better. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were fantastic as Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. IMO they should have cut the cast down and focussed more on those two.
  22. Wii U's Online

I actually hope it is EA providing the online service. Origin (their new online service for PC and mobile) looks quite good, and certainly a lot better than anything Nintendo have (and probably would) come up with themselves.
  23. PS3 or Xbox 360

If you want something to use for a year before buying a WiiU then maybe an Xbox would actually be the way to go. You can grab used machines for ridiculously cheap.

Any error lights on the graphics card or motherboard? They should hint at what the problem is. What PSU are you using?
  25. The board obviously has power. Does it "do nothing" as in literally nothing? The monitor doesn't switch out of standby? It could well be the graphics card that's broken. If not then it probably is the mobo.
