  1. Sherlock

The key is the lorry full of cushions (was it cushions? Can't remember. Something soft anyway). I suspect there was a couple of blokes, Moriarty's body and something to break Sherlock's fall, all hidden on the other side of that lorry. Sherlock lands safely, they slam Moriarty's body on the ground, Watson gets hit by a cyclist, they pick up Moriarty's body and Sherlock takes his place. The lorry drives away. The only other thing he needed was something which could stop his heart for a few seconds (an antidote could be administered by those "paramedics" once he was out of sight). It's either that or he genuinely did jump, was incredibly lucky to be revived, and he knows an amazing plastic surgeon.
  2. PC protection 101

MSE Spybot CCleaner Chrome/Firefox with NoScript extension MSE does a good enough job as virus protection. It's detection isn't the best in the industry (though it is up there), but it doesn't hassle the user like most of it's peers and false positives are low (i.e. unlike McAfee/Norton/AVG. MSE doesn't bug you three times a day over things that it mis-defines as viruses). Regular Spybot updates, scans and immunisations will help keep spyware off your PC CCleaner is a spring cleaning tool. Not really needed now, but it's good to use it every few months to clean your computer up. Chrome/Firefox, not because I have anything against IE (the latest version really isn't that bad) but because extensions like NoScript can really reduce the chances of spyware/malware getting on to your computer. Overall though, the answer is to be sensible. Don't download files from dodgy sources (or, if you must, make sure you scan the files with your virus scanner before opening them. With MSE this is as simple as right clicking on the file and selecting 'scan with MSE'). Last time I had a virus on my PC was almost 6 years ago I think.
  3. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Not spotted any damage yet. My cards haven't been debited for anything over Live, but my mum's card is on there as well, so will need to ask her. Hopefully nothing. Thing is, my phone, PC, iPad and Xbox all use my Live account, so I know pretty damn quick when someone has changed my password, I get hit with loads of 'please enter the correct password' requests. There's a good chance I noticed before any damage could be done. should be pretty safe, even knowing the format there's 2.64x10^16 different possibilities. I'm not going to lose any sleep on those odds. Possible. Incredibly unlikely though, only other person who has been on my computer is my brother, and that was months ago.
  4. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Someone hacked my Live account. I'm literally amazed. My password was down the lines of 'B0B-ha55le-L1VE', at 16 digits long and including lowercase, uppercase, numbers and symbols it should be very, very secure. I'm wondering if there's been a cock-up at Microsoft's end to be honest, because I can't see anyone actually cracking a password similar to the one above. It's either that, or someone got a key logger on to my computer
  5. Contact lenses (and glasses)

I moved from Specsavers to Vision Express last week. I'm not sure what it was that prompted me to move, but I'm glad I did. Turns out Specsavers own-brand contact lenses weren't doing my eyes any good. I had noticed that my eyes were bloodshot a lot, but didn't know why. It was because the contact lenses weren't letting enough oxygen through, and because I have dry eyes. I've now got better lenses, and after just over a week of wearing them I can't believe the difference! The whites of my eyes are actually... white! They're a lot more comfortable too. The downside? My initial bill was £114.95, even after a third off from student discount. I will also be paying £32/month from mid-Feb for the lenses, compared to £22 at Specsavers. Worth it to be able to ditch glasses though, always hated them. Uncomfortable, inconvenient and ugly.
  6. TV time

Was about to point to that S30 too. Richer Sounds have the ST30 for £50 more too. Not sure what the differences are beyond 3D though. What's the budget out of interest?
  7. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Anyone else think magic is really poor in this game? Or is it just me? I tried making a pure Mage character but... eurgh Not fun. Compared to melee and archery/sneak, magic is tough. Really tough. I keep getting my arse handed to me because enemies don't react to a torrent of fire flying at them, they just charge right through it and hack my fleshy arse to bits. I've tried all sorts of different strategies, including bringing a henchman along and conjuring a dremora, but most enemies seem to prioritise attacking me anyway and the same thing happens. Actually, as a thought, is it just me or is the entire population of Skyrim fearless? Not just thinking about magic here, but Dragons too. Nobody runs from them. I haven't seen a single creature or event that has phased a guard or bandit the whole way through.
  8. Is My Router about to Die?

Presumably your computer stored then old SSID and has made a connection between the two (same MAC address?). My router has been resetting to factory settings a lot lately. Really annoying. I have a back-up of the configured software (thankfully) but because there's no computer connected directly to the router I have to move my PC downstairs every time I need to reflash it. I'll let you know if it dies soon, might answer your question.

Shameless plug: http://www.n-europeforums.com/showthread.php?t=33066 Because barely anyone actually goes in that board.

Got the new dashboard too. Tis much better. Interestingly there's an app store on there...
  14. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I had like 10HP left or something silly. And I was low level at the time, it was actually the first Sabre Cat I'd seen so I was properly like WTF??? Funny shit though. Done the Companions, Main Quest and Stormcloak storylines now. No idea what to do next other than do menial quest after menial quest with no sense of purpose, so I started again with a Wood Elf Thief. Archery is actually pretty awesome and I'm loving having a high sneak level
  15. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This game is win. Me and two giants were beating the snot out of this dragon. We killed it. The giants made me in to a baseball. I reloaded. This time same thing, but I sprinted away from the giants just as the dragon fell and... got mauled by a sabre cat. lol. Really liking the combat in this one though. I think they've almost nailed it, though taking on multiple opponents in melee is still very messy.
  16. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It's sad, but I turned to Skirow to sort this out. Now installed, cracked and ready to go Driving lesson in 20 mins so not bothering to play it right now, don't want to spoil the undoubtedly epic intro. While I really like Steam, it's times like this that it just ticks me off.
  17. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I got my copy (PC) this morning. Doesn't unlock until tomorrow How stupid.
  18. Uhh...why/have hard drives shot up?

http://www.avforums.com/forums/computer-classified-adverts/ Buy used from there. Stick to sellers with good feedback and relatively new (<2 years old, 5 year warranty) drives. The people who run AVF have told users they cannot profiteer on HDDs and that prices need to be below what they paid for them (with proof supplied).
  19. Battlefield 3

People seem to be catching on to them now. When I first unlocked it people didn't pay any attention to them and rarely shot at them (resulting in much hilarity, I took out three guys and an MCOM station in one run. Solo). You know what is really awesome? Having the entire team use either the EOD or EAV in some kind of weird robot-rush. Was playing with a bunch of mates last night and we managed to pull this off.
  20. Batman: Arkham City

Completed this last night. Looking forward to seeing what DLC they release now, would be wicked to get some story-mode DLC for Robin and maybe others (Nightwing?).
  21. Batman: Arkham City

I thought the idea was to make money from the used game industry, rather than kill it? They'll still be making money from it, but that money will be coming from Gamestop rather than Gamestop's customers.
  22. quick gfx card help

In all honesty £61 is a pretty good price for the 5830 and one you'll struggle to beat. Not sure what you think to this though; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-253-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866 Overbudget, true. However it's a faster card with a copy of Deus Ex: HR and DiRT3 added in. Just something else to chew on.
  23. Batman: Arkham City

I can't really see the problem with that TBH. Having to buy DLC puts people off used games, meaning they sit on the shelf for ages, the retailer takes a hit on them and transfers that back to the customer by offering lower trade-in prices in future.
