  1. Did anyone buy this?

I did and i’ve just finished story mode. I played the Switch version and enjoyed it - classic 2D Sonic and they have really nailed the MegaDrive physics which is great to see.

I agree with the review scores - it is a 7/10 game at best:

    - Graphics on Switch are pretty basic which is inexcusable when you have Mario Wonder showing beautifully.

    - Music is hit and miss. Such a shame they did not use the Sonic 2 boss theme imo

    - Camera is a little too close for my liking resulting in some cheap hits.

    - bonus stages are a little naff and uninspiring.

    - i’ve been glitched a few times resulting in once having to reset

    - unlockables are disappointing as they can only be used in the battle mode.

I did enjoy it and it is very like the MegaDrive classics but it is not quite there. The bosses are great. Some of the levels do have a interesting twist too.

After nearly 30 years since Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I think the 2D series should just be better than this game. I’d say this is the series Mario U moment - a little bland but standard 2d platforming.

I enjoyed Mania more and wishes we had a Mania 2 instead.

Discounting Mania, I think this is the best 2D Sonic game since the MegaDrive classics.

  2. I bought Violet and it arrived this morning. I booked the day off work to get a few hours in whilst the kids were at nursery.

i’m enjoying the open world element of the game. I’ve wanted Pokemon to be open world for years - probably in my head since the gameboy days.

Only about 3 hrs in and enjoying the wide variety of pokemon at the beginning - some decent ones too!

i’m never one to complain about performance issues (I really don’t see the difference between frame rates etc) but this is so awful. Absolutely dreadful.

  3. I do miss the box art of the old games but thats not the worse of it.

I don’t mind the graphics of the game as much. Yes, they’re not the improvement I was hoping or even expecting but it will do.

i just hope the game adopts the modern mechanics.

To be honest, i’m looking forward to giving it a go. I dropped Pokemon during the DS era so never played the original.

Cool I just finishing up a village quest, let me know if you set up a lobby or I'll set one up when done. I at 2star Hub but don't mind helping you out with 1star :)

I’m up for some hunting. I’m also at 1 star.

Almost certain I'm picking this up now, got next Monday pencilled in as a whole day playing with my brother (35 and 38, what's your point?! 🙈) Not sure I'll be on much over the weekend but will try...

To other N-E'ers joining the Switch launch, anyone fancy a discord/WhatsApp group to voice chat in if we can organise some games? I'm not adverse to working out quests etc both on here or through text chat in game, but if there's a desire for it I'm happy to set it up no problems 👍

Happy to do whatsapp or whatever. How are we voice chatting?

  6. Grabbed the Platinum on this the other day. I really enjoyed the game. Never felt nostalgic towards the playstation brand before but this game did stir it all up.

Shows the capabilities of the Dualsense really well. I hope developers do utilise it.

  7. I preordered my PS5 months ago from Shopto and it arrived on release.

I have so many PS4 games in the backlog (with more to get), that I didn’t particularly need to go next-gen.

Except, I did, as my OG PS4 sounds like a jet engine. Playing FFVII Remake on that thing was just off putting. I haven’t bought Last of Us II or Ghosts for that reason.

So I bought the PS5 to really knuckle down on some PS4 games. I did buy Miles Morales and playing through Spider-Man Remastered at the moment. Also bought Planet Coaster. Loved Theme Park as a kid.

I’m enjoying Astro Bot and actually didn’t appreciate PlayStation history and it’s legacy compared to Nintendo’s. the controller is great and the game really shows it’s capabilities

  8. It’s been a while since I visited the forum but wanted to check in and just say (before the generation ends) that there are three stand out moments for me on PS4:

    1. Witcher 3: everything about this game.

    2. FFVII Remake: it is exactly what I wanted it to be. I’m hoping for some PS5 upgrade

    3. Destiny. I absolutely loved this game when it was released. It was fantastic gaming with you all and I had so many fun and laugh out loud moments. I remember one particular late night/early morning session beating the final boss. Buzzing.

    Anyone watching the Villa-SU game?

    I'm still absolutely fuming.

Their keeper was hugging the god damn ball against the post. Cheating t***

Apparently 7 Hawkeye cameras couldn't pick the goal up but I saw it clearly on my TV. Yeah, okay then.

    What a joke.

  10. I finally finished the game last night. It absolutely blew me away. I have played the original more than enough times to know what happens. This is a completely worthy remake and I enjoyed every second of it. It has kept most of the original material to arise the nostalgia but there is so much new content to justify it being a reimagining of the story in its own right.

Lots of discussion has been said about what happens, how it is only the first part and how the developer's intentions were not conveyed enough to make clear that the game was not a 1:1 remake (like for example Links Awakening) but that does not bother me. I did not follow development of the game at all (to avoid any kind of spoilers). I enjoyed that it is different but the same FFVII we know and love.

Cannot wait for Part II. I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
