  1. What Have You Bought?

But I didn't know what components he spent his money on (let alone UK pricing), so the only thing I could know for sure was that he bought a top of the line CPU like the 4820k or 4790k. The bulk of the cash could have gone to multiple SSDs for a RAID setup exceeding 1 TB or a 4k monitor or two. Knowing the amount spent on any given system isn't always going to be a good indicator of what its specs are going to be, and other than the Titan series every other graphics card out there is built to be safely overclocked by consumers. It's one of the most primary features manufacturers advertise nowadays. Other than that, overclocking isn't solely about bragging rights. There's a great deal of that, sure, but what it comes down to is maximizing a computer's potential. Now that I know the specs I know that it is superfluous to do so on his build, but the popular line of thought around the OC community is "if my computer can do it, then it should by default." That might have been a valid concern in the last decade or so. Overclocking has gone from being a niche thing only enthusiasts can pull off with some careful tinkering to downloading a single application and pressing a switch. It's a lot safer and the hardware is engineered with it in mind. The only thing you have to look out for when overclocking these days is the temperature. And in the case of a CPU, the only practical reason someone would ever go for liquid cooling is so they can get better temperatures while overclocking. Even if you're not overclocking, the sole act of buying 16 GB of ram and an unlocked K processor with hyper-threading for a gaming build is pretty much "bragging" anyway, since no game has ever required more than 8 gigs of RAM, hyper-threading, or an unlocked CPU running at a certain cycle speed. Regardless of all that, it's still an undeniably cool build. @martinist You might want to try this out with your games:

Specs? Do you intend to overclock it?

  4. What Have You Bought?

Okay, I need to clarify... the reason I don't consider it to be as active as the iOS scene is because iOS runs on a very limited number of devices, so developing and testing tweaks is pretty straightforward as all the devices run almost exactly the same save for minor differences in hardware. It's dissimilar on Android because modders have to take into account a myriad of devices, processors, and other specifications when developing software that expands the usability of any Android device (GUI customization is not my sole appeal btw). There are way too many of them out there and from what I've seen it's almost like there's a new Android phone every week. It's usually a year or two before Apple decides to update their devices, which gives ample time for modders to write software for them, and even more time for me to enjoy using that software. I'd honestly love to use Android, but for me to use a particular tweak on it I first have to make sure it exists, make sure it'll run on my device, and then live in constant fear of it not being updated should its creator choose to abandon it. I had an example of this happening with a friend's rooted Galaxy S3, but I forgot what it was...
  5. What Have You Bought?

I've had my 4S since shortly after it launched, and I have no intention of upgrading any time soon. It fulfills my desired functions in a phone, but that mostly has to do with me jailbreaking the shit out of it. I've thought about moving to Android before, but since the modding community isn't as active as the iOS counterpart I've felt absolutely no incentive. That, and most Android phones are pretty shitty in general (there are only two or three Android phones out there that are worth your money). I've seen some pretty cool ricing done with Android phones, but they weren't enough to win me over. Anyway, I bought this game for a dollar through the current Steam sale and I absolutely love it. My first impulse buy in years, and it was all because of this video:

  10. Game of Thrones

My point is that it was made clear that she was young early on in the show, regardless of her current age in relation to how much time has passed in the series/books. So pointing out her age to viewers isn't going to shock them because it's something they should already know by now. But anyway, I also agree with the idea that a show doesn't need to have a binary good-versus-evil trope to be good, but I can still understand the perspective behind people who do think that way. I reckon it's more an issue of taste than saying "this show doesn't work without having proper people to root for" (as exhibited here).
  11. Game of Thrones

We've known she was only 13 since the first season... They even made a point about her having her first period before deciding to marry her to Joffrey.

We call it the "Indian Color Festival" in Egypt. They're done on an almost weekly basis by different organizers who just want to make a quick buck. I don't think most people who attend the thing know, let alone care, what it's based on. http://www.cracked.com/article_19579_7-insane-festivals-you-wont-believe-are-legal_p2.html

Funny, we have loads of these events in Egypt. Except they add dirt and mud to the mix:
  15. The Patent System

I think they're letting it pass because they just have to, kind of like how the "but there's nothing in the rulebook that says it can't!" cliché exists. Not granting it could mean the patent office takes sides, as silly as that may sound.
  16. The Patent System

Not exactly. They just patented a technique of taking photos on a white background. Yes, they can't enforce it, but they have a quasi-understandable reason to do it, even though it still won't make sense: (watch it from 5:49) But really, using it as proof that the US Patent Office is broken is nothing new when you consider these previous filings: http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/the-5-most-ridiculous-things-people-tried-to-patent/ http://www.cracked.com/article_20066_5-everyday-things-you-wont-believe-are-copyrighted.html That's not to say the rest of their government branches are beacons of sound judgment, of course.
