  1. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

My Bowser glitched out and grew an extra pair of hands. I can't explain why, but just looking at it makes me cringe. And here we have Adolf fighting his arch-nemesis, Jerry Seinfeld
  2. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I finally did it: Took me four tries with a customized 'bruiser' Ganondorf. What it came down to was learning the attack patterns and then striking during the Master Core's idle animations. Didn't get much of a reward besides the coins, though. And with a GSP that high you'd think you'd be able to pick up chicks with it or something. Sigh... oh well. Now I can get back to work. EDIT: How I felt after beating it
  3. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

From the comments: "Before people get too hyped about 8-player Smash, it's probably just a rebranding of Brawl's Rotation mode, which to my recollection had a cap of 8 players And I guess Tower of Smash is dead, given there's no reason for these Wii U exclusive clips to still be in the 3DS code, but not the TOS stuff. Either that or they're leftovers from earlier in development. Really interesting finds regardless." Oh man... I hope you saw how much harder the other challenges were before you did that. I was able to get 9 KOs using Ike's counter on my first try, and it would've been a waste of two hammers for me to use on both the 2 and 4 KO challenges. I'm already contemplating using hammers on the second panel for the Street Smash challenges since I'm likely to be the only guy in my country with a 3DS--let alone a copy of Smash Bros. on it. And before you say it, yes, I know I can create a StreetPass relay using my PC. But I'm lazy.
  4. What Have You Bought?

This is right up there with the replica Mario 64 painting.
  5. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I've read somewhere that the company that made them spent a chunk of its R&D in interviewing professional Smash Bros. players and designing the controller based on their feedback. The face buttons are further apart as a result, and the shoulder buttons have grooves that go around the edges of the controller for easier reach. Which is neat and all, but I can't stand any of the designs, and I prefer the old Gamecube sticks over the Nunchuck/Wii U controller sticks. Nothing beats the precision of the 360 controller though, IMO.
  6. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I also figured out a quick way to unlock the "get 300+ KOs in Smash" challenges. Set up a 99 stock match with three level 1 CPUs, and set the damage ratio to 2. Pick any character with decent launching power (I picked Bowser with an alternate side-B) and start the match. If you keep playing aggressively you can rack up those KOs in about 15 minutes.
  7. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

Yeah, playing a slightly less compressed, higher quality music file while fighting would probably strain the already-taxed CPU. I don't pay much attention to the quality of the music when I'm playing anyway since there's already a bunch of other sound effects/voices/grunts during the battles. Maybe this could have been a feature exclusive to the New 3DS models coming out. But either way, I still don't see a reason why there shouldn't be a separate batch of high-quality audio files made for the sound test (I know it won't fit on the game cart. SD Card master race :awesome:).
  8. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I unlocked him by playing as Bowser on level 7 intensity. I was confused when I did this at first using level 6 as the character I faced at the end of completion turned out to be Dark Pit. But then I read somewhere that you get three unlockable characters for the first three times you play Classic. I played another round with Bowser, this time raising the intensity to 7 (most guides tell me it has to be 6) and was able to unlock him. I guess this confirms not having to beat Classic at a very specific level of intensity; just the level required or higher. On aesthetics: any one else miss the announcer from Melee? I never liked the announcer's voice from Brawl, and I hate how the new games are like a slightly evolved form of Brawl in terms of design. Take the new design of Fox, for example. Back when Melee was out Fox was my main, and his subsequent redesign killed most of the charm for me. Even now his voice seems neutered compared to what it was in Melee (listen to him shout "Fire!" when performing Up-B to get what I'm talking about).
  9. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I've spent most of my time unlocking the characters and stages and completing the challenges (I'm almost done with the second panel). My biggest gripe at the moment has to be the unlock criteria for the characters. I like how considerably easier it is to unlock characters in this game over any other in the series, but I don't understand why nobody on the internet has a reliable, consistent method of unlocking every last one. On IGN for example, the wiki guide tells me I can unlock Jigglypuff by playing Classic Mode 25 times or playing 120 VS matches. But I was able to unlock it randomly by just playing Classic mode (I think I was on the 6th or 7th go, I wasn't counting). Other websites like the Smash Wikia don't even list beating Classic Mode as a way of unlocking the character, and now I'm at a loss at how to unlock R.O.B. (IGN says I need to beat Classic with 6 unlockable characters, but even that comes with an "unconfirmed" tag next to it). Any help? Post yours.
  10. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

Currently downloading at 2 MBPS from the eShop. It's 6 AM and I'm busy with work all day today, so I'll most likely spend an all-nighter playing it when I get back. Good thing I believe in delayed gratification. :P

  12. What Have You Bought?

I finally got an invite from OnePlus to buy their phone, but it expires in about 12 hours and I don't have the money to buy it right away. I'm willing to part with it if anyone wants it since I'd hate for it to go to waste. My only request is you send me an invite once you've made the purchase so I can buy it at a later date.
  13. What Have You Bought?

Its because the buttons give you tactile feedback, so you know that when you move your finger across X number of buttons and feel their indentations across your fingertip you'll move an equivalent X amount of pixels on screen. Its the same difference between having a hard, defined scroll wheel on a mouse that clicks with each tug and a smooth, soft scroll wheel that just spins and spins.

I didn't intend to prolong this any further but I'd just like to state that his waiting in line is irrelevant if we don't get to see the result of said anticipation represented in the video. The headline might tell us he's waited ages for it, sure, but his lack of enthusiasm/dismay at his phone falling says the opposite. If anything, it actually made it more unfunny since it mislead you into thinking he's going to throw a tantrum. Is the inclusion of the headline the deal-maker for this video? Would it still be considered funny if you were not specifically told this guy camped out for it? Hey man, if something can die by just talking about it... then maybe it deserves it.

Does the layout make it awkward to type on?
  16. Funny Stuff Thread

So I get accused of trolling for asking a legitimate question, and now this. It's almost as if I'm being deliberately misinterpreted. No, that's not what I'm saying at all. I was simply stating that it was scripted as a part of describing the video itself. Yeah I get that, but none of that is in the actual video. Sites like Failblog post videos that have slapstick humor in the sense that the people who are falling/tripping/dropping something all do it in a spectacular fashion that makes it funny; or the way they reacted to it immediately after the fact was what made it funny. Like some obese man who wobbles as he walks, then falls down the stairs, tries to get up, and falls again. What makes it funny is both the fall itself and his attempts to get up (his reaction). But again, we don't see any of those elements in the video. As you described, most of the "he's waited ages for it and is so chuffed at being the first" is merely projection. There is no build-up. He doesn't sound super excited at finally being the first to buy the phone, he never says anything about how hyped he is only to have it all crashing down before him, and for the most part, he just talks like a regular person. There is absolutely nothing spectacular about the phone falling or his reaction to it. We're not even laughing at his incompetence because we didn't see him open the box incorrectly and cause the phone to spill out; it was a legitimate accident. He didn't cry like a baby when it fell, nor did he give any sort of reaction that would elevate the humor. We only heard the crowd surrounding him make noises and that was it. The only emotion you could see on his face throughout the whole thing was the fake smile he put on for the camera while opening it. Well of course you'd know something different was about to happen. That's the whole point. And having him go outside without breaking character doesn't equate to the video going south by that point. Seeing him leave doesn't mean that the surprise is ruined since you still don't know why he's going outside. You're supposed to think "oh, hey, what's going on here? I thought this was an unboxing video. What's going to happen?" It's not supposed to spoil anything or lessen the enjoyment of the punchline. The "surprise" wasn't in him getting out, but in what happened after he did. Whether or not you actually liked the delivery of that is up to personal taste, so I won't bother going there. Maybe you would have enjoyed it more if he went outside to smash it or break a raw egg on it or something. I've talked about this enough anyway, so here's some actual slapstick to get this thread back on track:
  17. Funny Stuff Thread

Nope. The video I posted was funny because it was scripted in a way that played around with your expectations, like watching a How2Basic video for the first time. The narration kept on describing the phone in a typical "unboxing video" format and what you saw was something else entirely. The video of the iPhone being dropped is just that: an iPhone being dropped. Unlike the previous video, I see absolutely nothing unique or interesting about it.
  18. Funny Stuff Thread

I don't understand why that video is going viral. A guy dropped his new phone, so what? What significance does it carry if he's the first one in his area to have it? More importantly, why was the launch of a sub-par product event worthy of a news report?
  19. Funny Stuff Thread

There's a very good reason why I'm posting an unboxing video on this thread.
  20. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

Yeah, exactly. The most annoying CPU opponent IMO is Pikachu. All the AI does is spam neutral B when at a distance, then it does a combination of spam rolls and grabs. I also noticed the AI extremely favors aerial attacks when playing the regular Battlefield stage.
  21. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

I got the demo and I seriously can't put it down--it's been ages since I've played a game this intensely, especially considering that it's only a demo. Speaking of intense, I was extremely worried about what would happen to my circle pad (what with all the news of people breaking them and all). But the game plays wonderfully and doesn't require you to be rough with it at all. I love the changes they made to the veteran fighters, and Villager and Megaman play pretty good. The only thing I feel some sort of skepticism towards however is the new level 9 AI for the CPU opponents. I'm not sure if it's me, but the level 9 CPU feels incredibly tame and nowhere near as difficult as it was in Melee or Brawl. I've been playing a lot of Brawl in anticipation for this game, and matches against 3 level 9 CPU players feel like level 5 or 6 in that game.
  22. Smash Bros 3DS Import Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

For those of you with an imported copy: is it possible to turn off the bar at the bottom of the touch screen? I don't need a constant reminder of how much battery I have left or what time it is.
