  1. Rate the last film you saw

I actually just saw Napoleon Dynamite for the first time this week. My brother's girlfriend had it in her collection. I had never been interested enough to see it myself, but since it wasn't going to cost me a rental... I saw it for freeeee! : peace: About the film, it was okay. When you think about the fact they made it on a shoe string budget. It's fine. Has some funny moments (mostly amusing). The last part of the film could've used more action, like a good american chase secuence..we can't have enough of them! :p I'll tell you this, it's better than most of the independent film snore-fest i've seen.
  2. Yeah, but there wasn't any of the big hoopla you get with some of the other mascots. Like Sonic and Mega Man had big promotional campains all over the place. Some games even had in the box art the text explaining that the said characters were celebrating a milestone. I didn't see any of that for dear old Mario...
  3. Whats Your Favourite Disney?

Currently I like the Emperors New Groove since the humor is more to my age. I also liked The Lion King and Lilo & Stitch (mostly the art style)
  4. Here's an image of what I think could be done to sell those old GameCube games for potential Nintendo Revolution buyers: Quite a few GC games could get a second chance at stardom if they are re-sold with new boxart and more importantly, as Revolution compatible games. Third party developers could also cash in on the fact that their GC games could still produced them profit on a new console (Revolution).
  5. Regardless of the fact that Matt Cassamasina (sp?) recent article on Revolution-IGN is faulty (no big name developers were quoted and the dev's that talked can only work on prototype dev kits based on the GC technology as Ninty mentioned before), it is almost a given that the REVO will not be as powerfull as the other consoles from Sony and MS. But is that really a problem? Consider the fact that historically, "weaker" systems have won console wars before. * The Game Boy (the original brick version). Back in 1989 or so, that handheld had competition coming from Nec (Turbo Express) and SEGA (Game Gear) and from Atari (Lynx). Said companies produced more powerful handhelds that were in COLOR (the original GB was in B & W) and had better graphics (for the time). And yet the humble Game Boy was able to beat them to a pulp. Why? Simple... Because the GB had a better library of quality games. And a better battery lifespan. Nintendo was thinking about gamers not graphics. Thus they made the GB to fit our gaming needs. * The Playstation 1 This system was technically weaker than the N64. And yet due to the fact the PS1 had a HUGE catalog of games (and Final Fantasy) it won the 32 and 64 bit wars. * PS2 Despite having older and weaker hi-tech specs than the Xbox and GC (GC had faster processor and could handle real time graphics and textures better), the PS2 once again managed to place SONY as the winner during the last generation of consoles. Why? Because the PS2 had ALL THE GAMES MOST GAMERS WANTED TO PLAY (GTA). * Nintendo DS Too early to say or to mention it really has any real competition, and yet the DS has managed to beat the crap out of the PSP in the videogame handheld arena. And once again, it all comes down to games. The DS has them and Nintendo has done a better job at marketing the DS as a GAMING system, not like Sony which looks like they're trying to save their film division by selling the PSP as a MEDIA device to watch their films (Zathura anyone?) In short, weaker systems manage to do well and even better than more powerfull console/systems. So all is not lost for the Revolution... especially when we have been told that not EVERYTHING has been revealed about it. Cheer-up people! : peace:
  6. You mean gap between launch of any system?... the biggest gap was when SEGA released the 16-bit Genesis/Mega Drive in 1989, and then Nintendo released it's Super Nintendo at the end of 1991. That happened after Nec's TurboGrafx 16 was released in 1990 and also after the release of the Neo-Geo from SNK. So after the release of several major consoles, Nintendo went ahead with the SNES. It was dead last. And yet went on to produce some of the most popular and classic videogames ever (Zelda III, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Star Fox (Star Wings), Super Mario World, Mario Kart, etc.) Not to mention that that console had the best RPG games. Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Breath of Fire, etc. In the end, the SNES was able to dominated the 16 bit market by the end of 1994 after SEGA made some dumb mistakes (developing useless add-ons for it's 16 bit system) and when it decided to move on by developing it's 32 bit system (Saturn). Nope.... The Nintendo DS came last after the PSP. Business 2.0 has a great article about the Nintendo DS in their most recent issue (Dec 2005). The article starts off by saying: "There’s a truism in the video-game industry: Fancy hardware doesn’t sell game machines; it takes great games to sell fancy hardware." An article which only proves my point. That it doesn't matter when a console comes out (look up the SNES example) it matters MORE if the console/system has any quality games to be played on it.
  7. Yep, it's all about the games. Tetris was in B&W and played on a dark pissed colored screen on the old GB. And yet it was so good it made the GB #1 over the competition. Regardless of the fact that the GB was bulky, had a tiny non-HD screen (compared to the other handheld screens), and was marketed mostly to kids. It's all about them games. That was what really made all the mentioned consoles rein supreme over their competition. The games. Nintendo better work hard on the next Smash Bros.!
  8. Actually, it is "Taught" not tought...I'm American so my English blows as a result... anyhoo, it seems that we are a couple of arseholes! no? :p
  9. Graphics aren't everything but they are a factor these days. Like for example, almost nobody is mentioning the fact that for the game Developers the cost of making HD games will be quite an expensive proposition. That's why Iwata mentioned that they want to make the REv affordable for even small companies to work on it and not go the way of Sunsoft, Acclaim and other companies that didn't have the money to stick around anymore because making games has become so expensive because everybody wants Hollywood productions and HD graphics and yet the games themselves remain as formulaic and repetitive as ever. Devs have to go back to basics...making great games not just great lookin' games!
  10. Fact: PSP more powerful than the Nintendo DS. And yet the DS is kicking the PSP butt as a gaming handheld system all over the world. And as a Media system, the Apple i-Pod is doing the same to the PSP. Have we learned nothing at all? In the end, it will be about the games. That's why the PS2 was able to rule. Because the system had the games MOST people wanted to play, regardless of the fact that the PS2 was the console with older and weaker hi-tech compared to the Xbox and GC. It ended up being about the games with the PS2 and the Nintendo DS... why are some thinking it will be any different?
  11. It's pretty much official that Sony is going to win the next console wars even before it even launches it's system. And I speak as a Nintendo fan here. The reason that I say this is because of these two major factors: 1).- Nintendo with Revolution is going on a different road. This means that it will not even be a rival for the other consoles. Nintendo itself said that the Revolution will be marketed as a companion system for the other consoles. So Sony doesn't have to worry about Nintendo's Revolution (not that they even came close to that). 2).- The Xbox 360 is practically a disaster. Look around, read the news. MicroSoft's system is getting a ton of bad press. And what makes it worse, a lot of the complaints and criticism is coming from buyers who own the machine. They say it's too big and too loud. That it overheats and that it crashes in mid game. And then the games themselves are nothing innovative. Same old stuff with HD graphics. In short, read Matt Casamassina's article on the Xbox 360 (visit cube.ign.com to read it). On top of all that, reuters reported that MS is once again selling their game system waay below what it really costs to make it. So this machine could actually be their last if they don't move fast to fix all this bad press and first impressions. I believe MS reproted that they lost millions and millions on the Xbox and that was ok since it was part of the plan. To build a user base. And I dunno if they can pull that again. Losing money with a system so full of glitches and stuff. Now, since Nintendo is a non-factor for Sony (not only because Revolution won't directly compete with the PS3, but because MOST casual gamers will NOT play on a Nintendo console, and that's a fact some can't seem to digest) and the Xbox 360 seems to presently be going down in flames, it seems to me that Sony's PS3 has it made. It really does! Sony has done it again. I was secretly hoping that this next generation of consoles someone other than Sony would be #1. Because with Sony the videogame market is going nowhere. Sony is more interested in pushing it's own technology (cd's on the PS1, DVD' on the PS2 and now blue ray on the PS3) than anything else. They have expanded the gaming market to reach people that shouldn't be playing videogames in the first place. Making it a life style for many a million causal gamers (you seen cribs on MTV? you see every rapper show off their big screen tv with bose speakers, tivo, DVD/CD players AND YES, a PS2. They're not very good at playing the darn machine, but hey it's all part of being in the cool crowd to have a PS2, no?) . And it affects me in that currenlty game developers cater to that insipid crowd. Making the same games over and over again to please their tastes and wants. Make another killing game? sure why not! Most gamers buy western type games anyway (violence galore) and since the japanese gaming market is on the down side, I expect this trend of more of the same junk coming for the next gaming generation as well. Anyhoo, I only truly desired for a freakin' change. And it seems to me that that change won't come for another 4 or 5 years when the next generation of consoles comes. And by then, who knows if Nintendo will be a software only company. Sony will once again rule the world! (Empire Strikes Back theme in the background) Here's hoping the Revolution delivers us from EVIL! (well at least from boredom! )
  12. What are the best GameCube games that you would recommend to be carried over to the Revolution? Especially for those users who have not played any of GC's games and yet plan to buy a Revolution. Here are my top 20 GC games list: 1).- Super Smash Bros. Melee (Any way you play it, it's always FUN!) 2).- Metroid Prime (A modern classic!) 3).- Resident Evil 4 (This games has like won several awards!) 4).- Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (Brilliant!) 5).- Animal Crossing (Addictive) 6).- Tales of Symphonia (Epic RPG) 7).- Resident Evil (Rebirth of the series) 8).- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Deep storyline) 9).- Viewtiful Joe (The best beat'em-up in years!) 10).- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (More Samus goodness) 11).- Beyond Good and Evil (Surprisingly good!) 12).- Eternal Darkness (creepy) 13).- Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes (Snake!) 14).- F-Zero GX (too much challenge.. i love it!) 15).- Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life (girl version is good too!) 16).- Hitman 2 (the bald one rocks!) 17).- Ikaruga (one of the last great shooters) 18).- Pikmin (addictive and fun!) 19).- Soul Calibur II (hey! it includes LINK!) 20).- Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (never played it... but it's going to be good no?)
  13. Nintendo is right

Yeah, I never expected the Xbox 360 to be THAT big. I mean these days game consoles should be getting smaller not bigger. Not as small as a handheld but small enough to fit in yout entertainment center (where you keep your tv/stereo and dvd systems). The fact that the system is bulky, makes me think that MS has abandoned the idea of marketing the Xbox 360 in Japan. Where systems should be made compact not vcr sized. Unless they make another version for that market (like the compact versions of the SNES, NES and PS1).
  14. ^^^ Correct.... So what GC games should you keep for play on the Revo?
  15. Caris, you poor soul... you did know that you have the option and liberty of not having to read that which does not pleases you, right? Because regardless if threads like this give you the hot vapors, violent bowel movements and ulcers, I will do as I please and continue on with such topics. Now, please understand that I can offer opinions and you can do the same. Especially on this subject here on this topic. Anyhoo, on to your comments.... any old playstation user has gone though several versions of PS1 and PS2. We're used to that in a way (I also had to buy several PS1's and more than 1 PS2). And Sony is all to pleased to cater to our needs by making less buggy versions of it's machine so we can upgrade them to infinitum. It never ends. But those days are over, soldier... these new machines aren't exactly cheap. The Xbox 360 is already selling waaay below production costs. So don't expect that price to go down any time soon. And the PS3 is set to cost at least above the mid 400 pound/dollar price (500 is more like it) per unit. Those days are waaay over. So the comparison with the PS2 and the Xbox 360 is not a good one. Not anybody has the cash to replace new gen machines like the good old days. In any case, just take opinions with a grain of salt and don't get the vapors, buddy. Your health is more important.
  16. And by that I meant those weird japanese games that seem to be sold only in Japan but as of late have made it to the Nintendo DS in America and Europe (Nintendogs is one of them). Would you like games like Dating simulators (I think they're called bishoujo) and Majong games and more fishing simulators and whanot. Maybe we be surprised like when Animal Crossing made it over here in the West! Who knows! Would you be game for games like that?
  17. Now this game was at one time rumored to be a Gamecube title, but as we know it didn't happen. More recently, Miyamoto was asked in an interview about this game and he replied "Do you really want a Kid Ikarus game? Ask me for it!" (those weren't his exact words, but kinda the same). The interviewer said "yes we want it!" Now that reminded me when Miyamoto kept getting asked about a Metroid game waay back when GC was just coming out. And he asked "do you really want a metroid game?" to the people asking. And the people replied "yes!". And before you knew it, we had Metroid Prime. So, does anybody know if a Kid Icarus is on the way?
  18. Your Official Reactions to the Revolution Controller.

My reaction was pretty much of surprise. Didn't think Nintendo had liberty bell size balls to pull this off. But they do. I think that once everybody handles one of these controllers for the Rev, they will reach the same conclusion the developers have reached: IT'S FREAKING AWESOME! I hope that they have kiosks in the States soon so I can try it for real and not come up with half-baked theories on the controller like some here do. :lmao:
