  1. The mexican standoff (test drive)

I'd assume that assigning [] tags would be relatively straightforward in general but I'm not a coder so I literally have no idea how vbulletin works, which means it's easy for me to sit here and hypothesise about dream mechanics for mafia-based games. I'd personally love to have a bunch of game-mechanic forum tools to play with. There could be all sorts of games devised from that kind of thing!
  2. The mexican standoff (test drive)

I think it's brilliant that you've thought about applying your code to this kind of activity. Perhaps @Shorty would be in favour of installing a game-related plug-in to the forums if such a thing were to be developed? (And not to rain on your parade but I've not checked to see if something already exists to facilitate mafia games. I'd be surprised if vbulletin didn't have anything for mafia-specific games)
  3. Insurance

My insurance is £31.50 for a 13-day trip to two countries. It would've been a tenner cheaper if I hadn't mentioned my health, but because they said that "if you have had any consultations, appointments or meetings with a medical professional in the last two years then your claim will be void" [or words to that effect] I figured I'd mention the one time I saw an eye doctor 14 months ago, as it seems to me that the particular wording would mean that if I hadn't declared this meeting that they would be able to void my claim under another aspect of the insurance... Even though I really think that it would be arguable that a claim for lost baggage ought not hinge on an unrelated factor, I don't want to risk that possibility (or the chance that I'd have to endure months-long battles to get the money where I may need it immediately). I've seen that nationwide current accounts offer a fairly exhaustive/extensive travel insurance for free, but I am wary that a lot of other lenders offer quite a minimal version of 'travel insurance' which my be limited to money-related things, and may not cover all territories. (I forgot to mention that I ended up going with the £31.50 rather than £122 etc)
  4. Mafia General Discussion Thread

Has anyone played the 'board' game Avalon? It's very mafia-like, and irl games last maybe 40 mins each. I don't have a copy of the game (and I've not been regularly checking this board for a while so forgive me if someone else has mentioned it or even done a version...!) but would anyone like to try and do this? Essentially; Good guys don't know who bad guys are Bad guys know who good guys are Merlin is a good guy too Merlin knows who the bad guys are Good guys win if the win 3/5 missions Bad guys win if they win 3/5 missions OR they correctly identify merlin after good guys win A mission requires x number of people to do Player who decides who goes on mission changes each go Player suggests who goes on mission Suggestion is voted on Success of mission is based on votes cast by those ON the mission. ALL missionites must vote SUCCESS. Only one FAIL will fail whole mission I've played the game irl with 6 people max, and there may be a limit to how successful the game would work with more. I also think it could work via forums or via chat, but due to the fact that there can be no 'null' votes (i.e. everyone HAS to vote) chat may work better. Is there interest in this?

if I know I'm around for it, I will! I saw this thread a tad too late otherwise I would've been game
  6. The mexican standoff (test drive)

It is a cool game. I've definitely had thoughts of doing a similar one but gave up because I couldn't think of a way to execute it well. You got it down to a tee - quick burst game. Would love to see the mayhem of a game with more people!

Well hey; he keeps it up, he gets infractions, innit. We're not going to retroactively dole out infractions. You see something you disagree with then report it.
  8. The mexican standoff (test drive)

    That was awesome!
  9. The mexican standoff (test drive)

is this something that could be done on the irc/chat?

  11. Let's talk about this place.

Just to point out a few things to anyone who cares: The forums have gone on for a long, long time. I've literally spent half my life on these boards. Sometimes moderation uses a bit more of the stick, sometimes less. Please refresh yourself with the rules if you like. 13 amazing rules to live by. You won't BELIEVE number 12 - SHOCKING!!
  12. The Other Consoles Have No Games

I love the sound of the 'murder mystery'stuff. I'd imagine that the pacing for such a thing might be off-tilt with the running of the game? Got a holiday to Boston coming up so strongly considering re-buying AC3 for PC !

Guess I know what pages I'm refreshing for the rest of the evening.
  15. Wii U General Discussion

Wii had one expired red infraction. Oh and three non-expired ones. Yah. 3-strikes. Waiting for a red to put this version of Wii in another castle as well.
  16. Creed

Not seen Rocky Balboa yet. Loved the first 5 films in an "I know they're not really all great movies" way, but I can't see how this film is doing much new :/
  17. The Other Consoles Have No Games

Just went off to read that Unity, patchiness aside, is just flawed game-wise. What's the deal with the story now? The AC:2 games (and AC:3) had some mind-blowing epic bits to do with the 'modern day' storyline, but what with desmond's situation, I don't know how the newer games addressed this?
  18. The Other Consoles Have No Games

The Rare bundle... has... Blast Corps...!! What happened with Assassin's Creed since Assassin't Creed 3? Not played any since then (not even black flag).
  19. The Walking Dead

That's crazy! Would you then say that the show still has 5 years to catch up on, or has the show run faster than the comic with its stories?
  20. Funny Stuff Thread

    I was the passer-by
  21. The Walking Dead

Comic book readers: How far ahead would you say the comic is? If you could estimate, that is. Would you say that the comic probably has 2 or 3 seasons more content than the show? Think back to when TWD started airing and where the comic was back then. Did we catch up to that yet, or is that still to come?

  23. Job woes/wins

Today was stupid. basically we had a meeting this morning for a new deadline of weds end-of-day. I was the only one able to do most of the work, but SHE said she'd do x and y, even though a and b would've been do-able without me. Turns out management had an adjustment on the deadline at midday, and told HER to let me know, She told me at 5pm. She also requested that I email her a and b. She went home. So I spoke with mangement all "wtf" and, thankfully, they believed me. I gave them a and b an a shitty version of x and y by 6:20, but the other stuff they wanted was just not possible (due to previously mentioned shit data). Turns out they were sitting on this deadline for 3 weeks before telling me I could've done half this shit --- or all this shit if they had given me proper disclosure or warning. Instead it got to the point where I could do nothing but tell them about how they should've told me sooner! We've got an extension though.. for 9:30am...!! Which will make zero difference. But get this. I've basically been forced to give inaccurate data even though I've previously said it's inaccurate data. I've been stitched up. Can't explain it well, but what I said i'd do requires someone in IT giving stats that we don't have publically available (because it's not ready) but because the guy in IT is too busy with x and y I can't get him to deliver a and b, so no matter what I do I can't deliver everything even though SHE said she'd deliver half of it. She's just royally stitched me up. Bleh.
  24. Job woes/wins

Harsh, man. I wait on other people completing simple, 5-minute jobs a lot. One person in particular is an expert at wasting time with spreadsheets.
  25. Let's talk about this place.

I think the point has been made. X doesn't like console A because they feel its library mostly consists of one or two genres of games. Which is an opinion. Both ways the argument's gone -- the point is that the person who holds the opinion will not change their mind. So for the sake of it, why not just... accept this? And not try to convince that person anymore? No more defending your console with the same-but-reversed comment about the other console. The arguments are all the same. I have this console because I think that this other console does not have the variety of games that I want. "What about other people who have this other console?" Why does it matter to me? "It should matter because that's a lot of people so their opinion should count." Why should it matter to me? "Because if you discredit the opinions of others then why should others give credit about your opinion?" Why should it matter to me? ... That's how it reads in every thread, anyway. And that can fairly be applied to the argument either for Wii U or for PS4 (or for XB1). How about a future future where you may want to consider just... stopping. Or not rising to the bait. Both sides. Just ignore comments you feel are stupid.
