  1. Japanese is easier because there are more words to learn?

Or Japanese is easier because there are less Chinese words to learn when you're studying Japanese?

I'd study Japanese so I could play quirky Japanese games, but Chinese would probably be more useful outside of gaming. *Helpful*

Whoops, I didn't consider that it might not be clear to say that!

Japanese language is composed of Japanese alphabets and Chinese words, but Chinese consists of Chinese words only (obviously). So you have to learn less Chinese words in Japanese, because they're padded with the Japanese alphabets!

Japanese is not hard to pick up tbh, especially the Japanese alphabet. Give it a go! :)

  2. But I have a few favourite plays :P Waiting for Godot and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Missed the opportunity to see gandalf and picard acting out Godot' date=' which would've been one of the best things [i']ever[/i]

Godot is good - I recently read a copy which had both French and English side-by-side - but the imagery doesn't attract me as much as my favourite play, No Exit by Sartre! :yay:

  3. I have some spare time for another language in college as I've decided to drop French (for this year, at university) so I must choose between Chinese or Japanese! It's damn damn hard! I have friends who speak both so I'm so CONFUSED!

Awww no, Édith Piaf would be sad! (She's one of your idols, right?)

Pick according to your personal interest level! If you're purely thinking about usefulness, Chinese, because of their strong economy and growing ubiquity! But Japanese is SLIGHTLY easier because there are less Chinese words to learn...

  4. Sometimes the items taste fine on their own.

When I cook, I adamantly stick to the concept that individual items should taste good on their own, and as close to their natural flavour as possible...however my family never want me to cook because everything I make is "bland". :'(

  5. I have a lot of favourite books (re-reading A Little Princess rn), but my favourite favourite book is:

    tumblr_l7e2sle8br1qbb01z.jpg

Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives, by David Eagleman.

It's forty stories about death and space by a neuroscientist. It's clever and morbid but also interesting and quirky enough to not be fully depressing.

  6. On the topic, what are people's experience with popping zits? I've always been told not to pop them, but is that premature popping? The popping seems inevitable, so I've always been a bit confused. Someone has also mentioned to me that it's about getting the white stuff out without causing bleeding (a tear in the actual skin) as that can leave a scar.

Depends on the type/severity of the zit. Sometimes if you pop one, it will appear again later, possibly worse. You should make sure your hands and the area around the zit is clean, too!

The best solution I've found is to put tea tree oil on it twice a day! :) It's a natural astringent and antiseptic!

  7. -I was supposed to meet up with the guy I´ve been sorta seeing for the past few months today. He cancelled because he was with his friends, he did this last week too. I dunno, I haven´t seen him in 2 months so I thought he´d be pretty excited to meet up but he sounds hesitant. bleurgh, it could be all in my head though. he´s studying medicine etc. so he´s always busy (/moan)

I have some wine to share with my friends anyway to forget about this for a night. class, eh?

Pffft, Medicine students party hard...if you're smart enough to get into the course, it's not busy or difficult - popular misconception! :) Maybe he's just feeling shy or nervous?

  8. Just a brain fart' date=' really. Cow, pig, dog, donkey, monkey, rat, rabbit. Love how they each have different connotations when you're using them to insult [i']people[/i]. I wonder how easy it would be to try and introduce different ones, like rhino, hamster, koala. Hard to see koala as a negative though.

In Cantonese, babies/kids are called koalas when they're very attached to their parents and cry when they're separated - e.g. clinging onto them like a koala clings onto a tree. It's not an insulting term though XD

  9. Just started learning Lao because my fiancé speaks it...seems like a very simple language in the way sentences are constructed, and "only" six tones. But the exposure probably helps (being around his family and listening to the music). The written language, however, looks like a nightmare...though not as nightmarish as Chinese, I suppose.

Basically if you want to find learning languages easy, be fluent in Cantonese which has nine tones >D

  10. My friend uses Sony Vegas and has no problems with it, think it was just easy for him to acquire though rather than looking it up. Just googled a few places and Vegas seems to be faster/more compatible with a shallower learning curve. Premiere pro has more tools but is very hard to master, and also After Effects is there to pick up on whatever you can't do in Pro. So yeah, an ignorant google and a guy I know has Vegas but does not do much with it. I'M HELPING.

    Sympathy thanked... :|

Here's one site: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ Mokong actually uses one of these as his video intro theme.. : D

But yeah, if you find any good sites, let me know as well.

    Great, I'll check it out!

  11. People who wear fake glasses, i have an intense urge to partially blind them to give them cause for real glasses! why wear them?

I actually don't understand the hatred for fake glasses. I don't wear them myself (I need real glasses...), but why not? I guess some people like how they look with glasses on, but don't actually need them?

  12. Why we try along things we think we do thatay be slightly weird to people? I'll start.

I'm very symmetrical, such as when I knock my right knee, sometimes I will hit my left knee (but only lightly with my hand) otherwise it sort of feels weird / left out to me. I think this may seem quite strange.

You are a Bulbasaur. I find that strange already.

  13. Whenever you touch anything in public, just think about where the hands of all the dirty humans that touched it before you have been.

I touch things with my knuckles or elbows, wash my hands before I eat, and avoid touching my face.

A pet peeve...I don't like it when people hug me or kiss me on the cheek (old men), and bend/squash my glasses into my face in the process. I'm wearing glasses! NOTICE IT.

  14. I'm in the process of...acquiring Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 as an upgrade to Windows Movie Maker :santa:

I have a number of videos I took on holiday that I'd like to combine to make a proper, nice video. What do you guys use as royalty-free background or filler music in videos? Is there any site you'd recommend?

Alternatively, does anyone know an Android or desktop app to easily play and record piano songs? I can play but I have no keyboard or piano to record from.

Does anyone else use Premiere Pro - any tips or better programs (i.e. easier for noobs) to recommend?

I could have Googled, but I figured that there are quite a few talented people here who make videos, so I should tap into that instead :) Thanks.

  15. It's more the fact that she's gone out of her way to put "hates cats". It can be left at just "likes dogs".

    Maybe...she's allergic to them :)

Naw, I think being specific can be reasonable, in case you're a cat lover who watches cat videos every day and has ten cats and cat crockery and you smell of cats. Then you shouldn't message her...

Paj is right too, she could change her mind or decide that it doesn't matter, too.
