  1. Maurice Sendak, widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century, who wrenched the picture book out of the safe, sanitized world of the nursery and plunged it into the dark, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful recesses of the human psyche, died on Tuesday in Danbury, Conn. He was 83 and lived in Ridgefield, Conn.

The cause was complications from a recent stroke, said Michael di Capua, his longtime editor.

Roundly praised, intermittently censored and occasionally eaten, Mr. Sendak’s books were essential ingredients of childhood for the generation born after 1960 or thereabouts, and in turn for their children. He was known in particular for more than a dozen picture books he wrote and illustrated himself, most famously “Where the Wild Things Are,” which was simultaneously genre-breaking and career-making when it was published by Harper & Row in 1963.

I keep meaning to read Where the Wild Things Are (and failing to fulfil that), but I saw the movie and loved the soundtrack.

  2. NEW POST: Damn, you're ninja-y.

Eddie, this is the first time I hear of mr-paul downgrading powers. I'll take a look at the thread later tonight, to get my facts straight, because I've been wrong in this game way too many times.

    Thank you, sir!

mr-paul forced Peeps and I to target each other one of the nights, and I was told that I would not be able to receive PMs the following night: "After the long night, you were in a sore state."

And Tales found Smeagol evil, but someone (Yvonne?) figured out that that was because mr-paul negatively affected his power, so it was all borked and gave the opposite alignment of Smeagol (lynched, turned out to be town).

I made Eddie and Cube go together as I thought those two were likely target for kills. I figured that if Cube was targeted for the kill, Eddie would protect him, and if Eddie was targeted for the kill, Cube would know who the killer was.

And Eddie, it says in ReZ's writeup that he could alignment investigate, but it appears he wasn't using it, which is a very odd decision.

Hmm. Not sure if that reason is acceptable enough or not :p

Now, it is very strange that Peeps apparently had an alignment investigation power, but never used it, and that Eddie claims he only found out abilities. Eddie, you also claimed he could copy the powers he scanned, yet it doesn't say anything about that.

Also, we need to find out who is causing the power reduction.

Haha, I should read properly. So, he could scan alignment or ability...the write-up deaths generally don't show extra/secret information like that, it's usually revealed by Rez at the very end when everyone's role is posted - right? So that doesn't really surprise me. I promise that he could copy people's abilities.

When my power was negatively affected, it said: "After the long night, you were in a sore state."

  3. Eddie targeted me, and my power during the next night has been reduced.

I believe Eevil reported similar yesterday.

That's what happened to Tales and I after mr-paul targeted us in previous nights. I assure you it's not my doing.

And that's not all you found, isn't it?

Frag's a modkill, though. Still, I'm quite shocked Peeps possibly had alignment info and didn't reveal any of it!

I have received Peeps' PM before, and he doesn't get alignment info, only ability info.

mr-paul, what have you been doing? Your redirects are more of a nuisance than anything, I am getting incredibily suspicious of you :/

  4. I found it absolutely fucking hilarious when I decided to go all out to save Dohnut with vote-changing pms :D Town just fell apart and I was switching the vote every minute or something. Fun game, a highlight of mafias for me, but I suppose you had to be there. i.e. be me :p

I loved that too, everyone was falling apart while we observed the chaos :)

  5. From night 4: "A giant blue, cream and white Pokémon smashed into an equally large Pokémon, pinning it down."

From night 6: "A giant blue, cream and white Pokémon fell down on top of a purple, turqoise and yellow Pokémon."

None of these sound like protections, especially not the first.

    That's

    not

    me

    :heh:

So there's no reason for them to sound like protections, because they are unlikely to be.

    Night 4 - was roleblocked.

    Night 6 - no target.

  6. Are you trying to tell me there is more than one giant blue, cream and white Pokémon in this game? Sounds a bit fishy to me - no pun intended.

Nope :p Just that the blue, cream and white Pokemon is most definitely not me, on account of how I did nothing and that blue doesn't seem to match. Aren't there other giant blue, cream, and white pokemon? Snorlax? But that blue doesn't seem to match Snorlax, either...

  7. (Still want to hear what Pokémon Eddie is, by the way.)

May I ask why? I don't feel like telling if you're simply curious about it...and I don't think I/we know anything about you :o

I am lame-ass; due to the short night and my being on a bus for most of today, I forgot to send in a target.

I am also interested in (but thankful for) the lack of kills. Let's not lynch stupidly again, people :p

  8. If Eddie and Jimbob could both say their targets for night 4 and say how they were roleblocked it might help us out?

I "attempted to target Tales", but was "attacked by a very large Pokemon. They were big enough to crush you, pinning you down and preventing you from completing your action.". I chose Tales after learning that he's an investigator that day.

    --

    Jimbob, what is your Pokemon?

  9. Haha, totally missed the beta for that, but I had a lot of college work and exams anyway. Oh well :( I wouldn't know how empty it is as I hadn't ever played before, doesn't seem too bad for now.

  10. I played Aion for the first time on my sister's laptop last night...and I just downloaded the client. Good thing I don't have exams until the end of May...

I've never played an MMO before, but I found it easy to get used to. Maybe because I'm not a gaming noob, just an MMO noob. It's really pretty! I have no idea how campaigns work, and how you meet up with people you know irl though.

    Any N-Eers still play?

    /lol, bump

  11. Eddie, I was the one who put you and Peeps together - I thought it may clear you and/or Peeps if you were able to gain info on each other. I thought someone else was a protector - so unless there are two, I may have to reconsider my perceptions of the other. Of course, you and Peeps may both be mafia and can back each other up anyway :p

I'm not the blue, red and pale yellow pokémon though. That appears to be an attacker. But I don't recognise the colours of this one, Dohnut had slightly different colours so I don't think it is him. Wondering who all the others standing around are.

O-m-g...I already had info on Peeps! You just wasted a protector's night :p And Peeps could still lie and be like "she's not a protector! Lynch her!" and vice versa :heh: You should've directed him to me, and left me alone :/

I don't think it's a kill, I think it's a repeat of what apparently affect Peeps/surrounded Tales last night. It may well be what prevented it, though.

    Tales is dead. :p:

  12. From yesterday (day ended before I could address it):

It hit me yesterday, but I wasn't sure whether to take anything from it, but the discussion of Peeps' ability circled around him being a "rolecop", which he denied. Now, we all knew what we were talking about, but isn't a rolecop strictly speaking a cop who investigates people's roles, i.e. their character? It could be a clever way of avoiding telling the truth without actually lying.

See this post in which I change tack and ask if Peeps is an ability cop, if not a role cop.

    --

Would anyone agree that the final paragraph is the attempted kill?

No, the last paragraph is not the attempted kill. The two converging Pokemon are Peeps and I, and it seems that we were redirected to one another; it appears to be a symmetric redirect rather than person A to person B - instead, person A to B and B to A.

Note that I protected Peeps, and Peeps scanned me and got my power/ability/whatever.

    --

I guess the second-last paragraph is absolutely everyone targeting us, due to the past few days' discussion.

Dohnut, are you the redirector then?

I am talking way too much in this game :( It makes me feel uncomfortable (am usually hella quiet ) :'(

P.S. The blue, red, and pale yellow redirector is likely mafia, due to how my PM describes things.

  13. Holy crap. Clearly no one is going to shift the focus from me and will continue to concentrate on yesterday's events no matter what happened last night or with anyone else.

Fine. I'm a protector who sometimes intercepts (not steals) PMs. I received Peeps' PM the night before last. He scans players' abilities with his "device" and can choose to use them on odd nights instead of scanning. That's why I'm suspicious of the fact that he denies being an ability cop. He scanned Smeagol that night.

If everyone who keeps badgering me for info is mafia, then you win :heh:

  14. My thoughts on the situation is that Eddie had no reason not to vote yesterday, and was against it for no reason. It felt like she knew Sméagol wasn't mafia and didn't vote so that she would look good after he was revealed townie. I mean she went against it with such confidence yet with no evidence, it was weird.

I did have evidence; I had Smeagol's full role information, which I slowly revealed to see whether people thought it was lynch-worthy or not. If I said it all at once I would've been accused of outing him (bad if town).

Also to Eddie, not voting for Smeagol is not a defense. I would have voted for him myself if I had not missed the day, as I felt he was incredibly scummy(was reading the day and ready to vote, when I saw it was concluded), in hindsight it would have been the wrong decision, but at the time I would have cast my vote with no doubt in it. It could be a classic mafia tactic to not vote, hoping to not draw attention to one's self, and saving it for later in the day under some sort of pretense, then solidifying the vote if it wasn't going through.

It would be incredibly silly imo to be waving the fact that I didn't vote around, if it was a mafia tactic. Surely I would save it until much later, when it's less obvious. And I was one of the people who talked the most yesterday, which is hardly not drawing attention to myself :heh:

I was doubtful all along yesterday because I had Smeagol's full role information to work from, and well...he did reveal absolutely everything on the first day and was very forthcoming with info, all of which I could confirm to myself. So he was at least very truthful, and really the only thing going against him was the brutal roleblocking.

    --

In the end, Eddie is the one with more solid evidence on her, while Peeps is more hunch than confirmation at this point. But I'll keep my eyes peeled.

What's the evidence against me? You've got dodgy alignment information from Tales and...?

    --

@The Peeps, what would you describe your role as? /ttly not letting this go :p Are you town or neutral?

    --

Also the vote thing heroic mentioned is hella weird, I can't even imagine the mechanics before it - whoever it is can cast a vote under another player's name?

  15. Not if they were trying to kill him, which it seems they clearly did. Why were you clearly roleblocked? Peeps seems to have accurately described a roleblock to me, what/who/how/why were you roleblocked? Did you do something to Tales? Not to mention I've already said I didn't actually mean a roleblock, I meant a something that meant Peeps couldn't make it to his target, Tales.

    Scroll up for this:

I was roleblocker by the large Pokemon that roleblocked Peeps the night before (or whoever mentioned it).

And read yesterday for Peeps' description of the roleblock...or read below:

I was "attacked" and "crushed" by a "very large Pokemon", and was prevented from completing my action.

In my quote: roleblocker = roleblocked :(
