  1. Wii General Discussion

    1. Are you able to play a game for less than an hour? I am but I tend not to as much. I like having that time so I can let myself become more absorbed in it. When I'm waiting for something, instead of firing up the DS, I am now more inclined to just go on the internet on my phone. I'm very likely to send someone a message too whilst I get a few minutes to myself and if they respond it saves me having to keep putting something down and picking it up again. So if I am playing a game for less than an hour, I try to avoid new games where I would actually be making progress in case I get to a point where I can't really save and stop playing. 2. How do you combine other obligations with your greatest of hobbies? Obligations are just that and they have to come first. But if I think I can get away with, I'll do a bit of gaming beforehand. It's a pretty bad habit though. 3. How do you go about eliminating your backlog? Backlogs aren't something I typically ever have problems with. I don't buy an awful lot of games. I've brought 8 retail games so far this year (6 Wii and 2 DS) and have my eye on 3 future releases. But normally after a good weekend session, I'll have seen a good chunk of what most games have to offer and then by the end of the week, the game is often finished. I still go back and play them and have multiple games on the go that way but they aren't in any sort of backlog. Most of my purchases of games tend to be on it's day or weekenn of release. If I don't get it then, the odds of me doing so become quite low. And I don't normally buy a game until I've finished the one I'm on so I know I will give it my full attention unless I see it as an absolute must buy. 4. What game have you played for X hours straight, and what number would that X be? When I get a new game, I'll sit there and play it for hours if I enjoy it enough. I think I spent up to 8 hours at any one time just playing without stopping to for an actual meal or do do something else. 5. Does anyone here plan their gaming time? I have been known to book time off work for games I'm really looking forward to but after that initial day, I just play when I have free time - free time = gaming time I do sometimes plan what order I'm going to play my games though. So I might think I've not played something recently so I'll go through that. And then I'll look at how long I think it will take me and see what I've got on. If it's a really long game and I know I won't have as much free time, I won't bother starting it - I'll pick something shorter.
  2. Mobile Phone Chat

Maybe I'm being a bit thick, but why do you have to opt into the thing unless they are making it this way to somehow avoid overloading the network until they know it can handle the traffic.
  3. 3DS Console Discussion

Marvelous indeed! Can't believe my games teacher hadn't even heard of it until I told him I'd be doing a presentation on it.
  4. Castlevania Retrospective

The first Castlevania game I played was Simon's Quest back in the good old days... that game was broken. Not that you notice these things at that age but I always just remember that feeling f not having a clue where to go and then on the off chance I did, having one hell of a difficult time getting there. Queue a massive jump to March 2007 where I fancied a new DS game. I was eying up Yoshi's Island but went for Portrait of Ruin because I'd heard good things and wanted something a bit different for my collection. And I every much doubt I would have enjoyed YI as much as PoR - PoR is my favourite DS game. I consequently picked up Dawn of Sorrow and then Order of Ecclesia on release. I also have Super Castlevania IV on my Wii. I'm not a super big fan of that one for the sole reason that you move so slow. I'm sure a typical crappy PAL conversion didn't help things though. Having seen videos comparing Dracula X(XX Jp) with Vampire's Kiss, I don't think I would get it if they released it on the VC. I do have Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth on WiiWare and that's not too bad.
  5. Drunken thread ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, I'm back! Thank heavens for the wonders of predictive input. Correcting my abysmal spelling since all of 2 minutes ago - booyah!!
  6. Tales of the Abyss

Well hopefully it will get another American release and we can import it providing there is no iffy region locking on the device. It's a shame it's a port, even if it is considered one of the better games in the series but still, and the fact we never got it anyway means there is hope we actually might to play it this time. Besides, at least it's not another version of Tales of Phantasia... though give it a while and it'll no doubt turn up. Then again, I would love to play that with the ML-LMBS or a FR-LMBS variant.
  7. Jimmy Eat World [Invented Out Now!]

I'll be going to watch them later in the year myself which will make it my second time - and because HMV still haven't completed work yet, it's going to be at the exact same place too as the venue has been changed. I'm not a super massive fan, my brother is though, but I do like a lot of their songs - I'm really going so I can watch the support act who are my favourite band: Minus the Bear.
  8. Donkey Kong Country Returns

Where did you see that date for Golden Sun? Right now, that and this are my only definite purchases for the rest of the year... though Sonic always has a good chance of creeping in there.
  9. Drunken thread ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!

The captain... well he be drunketh. But only slightly mind. This threqd should.not be four pages back mind... Needs to be made better use and abuse of!
  10. Donkey Kong Country Returns

That's a good point actually. It was just all those blocks preventing you from jumping to platforms that was making me think that. I can only assume you are right in that he must have some mid air move to deal with them.
  11. Super Mario All-Stars

Definitely Converting Doki Doki Panic into a Mario game seemed like Nintendo saying Mario can be in whatever we want him as long as the game works (beyond a cameo role as umpires and referees). It was a gamble and it paid off.
  12. Donkey Kong Country Returns

From watching that video, I get the impression that perhaps Rambi is like a mine cart in that he is forever running. The levels don't look like they be done without him either so it might also mean you can't dismount him/ get knocked off either... adding more to my first thought.
  13. Donkey Kong Country Returns

Just saw this over at GoNintendo - it's Rambi!!!
  14. Mobile Phone Chat

Well it has to be adapted to work with HTC sense. That's why devices, such as the nexus 1, running vanilla Android can update sooner.
  15. Super Mario All-Stars

My favourite 2D Super Mario game has to be Super Mario Bros. 2. I loved the chirpy overworld music and even though the underworld music has an incredibly short loop to it, it never gets on my nerves. And even though there are very few musical tracks in the game, it never bothered me. Trying to make it through with each character and then trying to remember which was best for each level was cool. I liked the sprite work in that game too. I think Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach had a lot of character to their appearance - they just looked right.
  16. Mobile Phone Chat

Thanks for the heads up - I'm just downloading the update now.
  17. Apologies

Yesterday was a friend of mine's birthday... and unfortunately I forgot. What makes it worse is that last year, I had a little moan about her forgetting my birthday even though they are just one week apart but this time is was me who dropped the ball. She sent me a text just after 10 informing me of the fact and I felt really bad about it. I replied to her text in my traditional fashion (i.e. lengthy) and then I sent a short one too. She still sounded a bit annoyed so I sent her a message on Facebook too but heard nothing back. So it's 11 now and I'm feeling really bad at this point so I'm wondering what I can do... And then it hits me, I'll get her a birthday card. Yes it is only her birthday for 1 more hour and no I'm not entirely sure where she lives - I know the street, having taken her home from work, but not the house number. Making good use of BTs online phonebook, I find the house number, so I know where I'm going now at least. But before I can go, I need to get my dad's car moved and that requires waking him from his sleep... not good. Right, I've got my car out - now I need a card. Luckily Tesco is open 24/7 and is just a couple of miles away... in the opposite direction. Roads are quiet which is good and I get there fairly quickly. The front has a picture of a dog and the caption reads something along the lines of "with these eyes I can get away with anything" which I thought might just work. I get my card, write a little message inside and then I'm off - it's just another 10 miles to her house. I get to the street and I'm struggling to find the house - house numbers aren't easy to read in the dark and at a distance (ask Rez - he'll back me up!). Fortunately, I know what car she drives, even though I've never seen it myself, and after a bit of walk up and down, I find the place. And so I pop the card through the letterbox at 11.51 - so it's still technically her birthday - and I hope that will make her forgive me if just a little and put a smile on her face when she wakes up in the morning and sees it. And so yeah, the point of the thread was really how far do you go to apologise to someone and what does it take to earn your forgiveness. Do you like to hold grudges or are you easily swayed on such matters?

  19. Apologies

I know, that's why I used a smiley - I don't use them like they are going out of fashion unlike some (and I don't mean you either btw) Well she has finally forgiven me... but it wasn't the card that did it, it was the message I sent her yesterday on Facebook that she has finally got round to reading today.
  20. Apologies

It's just never good enough for you lot is it... :p
  21. Apologies

That's well harsh dude and you know I'm not an ultimatum kind of guy. I guess her reaction is a reflection on the faith she had in me as a person. And I let her down... I mean she didn't remember my birthday with out prompting but she did wish me a happy one unlike someone who still didnt after I said... but she admits to being bad at remembering whereas I made a big point how I knew when all my close friends birthdays are. I normally find just being myself ends up with me constantly apologising whether I'm in the wrong or right.
  22. Apologies

Well she has a boyfriend who she's been with forever and I don't see her like that anyway - I see her as the big sister I could have always done with. Well, I'm not totally convinced it's done the job. She sent me a message at 8:30 this morning, thus waking me,telling me not to worry about it, which immediately makes me worry, and thanked for the card saying I didn't need to do that. I replied saying I didn't need to but I wanted to, in order to show how sorry I was and how much I value her friendship. To which she replied to say it was nice but that she still couldn't believe I forgot... which makes two of us. Oh well... not much more I can do about it now.
  23. Apologies

I should have put a note on the back of the envelope saying to please deliver to Ms X if I've got the wrong house - as it stands it's just got her first name on the front of the thing. I think sometimes I let people off too easily. I think I am so desperate to believe they are sorry, because it's easier than seeing them for who they really are, that I'll let them get away with it. But then something like that is probably telling of the relationship of the whole. To call it a sham may be a bit harsh but perhaps it isn't really what you thought it was and never will be as a result.
  24. Today is a great day.

    Yeah, that one (just checked)
  25. Climbing up to the tower ! to Heaven !

I wonder if anybody has ever gotten to the top and then realised they'd forgot something...
