Sex is what you make of it. I'm not saying you didn't put the effort in or that you're lazy. You'll rarely find people who's first time sex was mind-blowing. Anyway, nice to hear from you, Sir Offers. You are GOLD (gold).
-
Here You're welcome. :p
-
I think we've just got used to it now. Imo, it's exactly like it was with the controller. That had its share of skepticism too, but now it's being praised for being different than anything. You just need time to let it sink in.
-
I think they chose a good time to announce the name. If they announced the name at E3, it would have detracted attention from the actual console. As we've seen, there was a public outcry about the name. Now, it looks as if people are warming to it.

Haha, same here. I'm really loving the name now.

Tony Hawks Downhill Jam: Rev EXCLUSIVE!!
Fierce_LiNk replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Hang on a second, Nintendork. First, you slate Tony Hawk's games for being too similar to each other. Then, you go on to say that you don't want Downhill Jam before we even see any information about the Wii version. So, you're bored of the series but don't want to look at alternative look to skateboarding? Make up your mind. And then, you go on to praise this new video flying around which basically is just a graphics update. I'm confused. -
I'm beginning to get really excited about what Nintendo can do with the new name. There are so many advertising slogans in my head at the moment, and the potential is definitely there. Someone said earlier about Nintendo just calling the name "Wii" and not "Nintendo Wii". This may be quite a good move. The Nintendo name carries a lot of stigma with it. For example, in the past (and present for that matter), Nintendo have been referred to as a kiddy console maker and have been labelled with a childish image. If they take the name away, it could be seen as wiping the slate clean. When i was thinking about the name earlier today, i could image seeing an advert for the console and its games with the name "Wii" popping up at the end. Just Wii. Like a brand name. I would liken it to advertisements such as those by IBM. It's certainly not all doom and gloom.

I'm confused now. How have they lied in this case? When have they lied before?

My idea of the third secret- Eternal console
Fierce_LiNk replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I actually had this idea not long ago. Upgrading a console would mean you're not forced to get a new console. As far as it being the third secret: If it is, i'll be shocked. I highly doubt that it is the 3rd secret. -
Personally, i like it. I was telling my girlfriend about it and after we discussed it we both saw the potential for great advertising. Trust Nintendo to cause a stir.

Nah. I like the name and the meanings that go with it. It's a bit sad to see so many people wrapped up in the fact that is sounds like "wee". But aw well, there you go.
-
Have a nice wee. And yeah, it is boring now.
-
And you don't appear to have grasped the concept of "CONTEXT." For example: "we are going out." "i'm going for a wee." The We/wee sounds the same, but it is NOT the same word. It has a totally different meaning. In the "Wii" case, the meaning is the same as "we". Not urinating and NOT "wee". Lookie: Introducing... Wii. As in "we." "While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd" Urinating, eh?
-
But are we and wee the same word? Like i said earlier in a different thread, Nintendo has said that this name will be pronounced "we" NOT "wee". It doesn't even matter if we say it out loud, the word in question is still we. And about the name's importance: I think the Nintendo DS was not a great name. I even disliked it. But of course, you're right. That was a commerical failure too. Um, it came right from the horses mouth- Nintendo themselves. Go check the home page of this website. It IS pronounced We. The way it looks: It's not meant to look like another other word. That's part of the beauty of it. Part name- part logo, quite abstract really. Pronounciation: We and Wee might be pronounced the same, but they are NOT the same word. Like sure and shore, red and read. Used as a word:...its used as WE. We meaning us.
-
You had a good post up until the part i put in bold. Explain to me how "WE" is slang for urine. You are looking for "wee" which is a totally different word altogether.
-
The only thing that's making me dislike the name are when people refer to it as "wee" or "urinating." Now, i don't know about you, but "we" is a common word in the English language. You probably all use it everyday without noticing. The console is named the Nintendo Wii. Wii as in We. We as in Us. Not as in urinating. Now, don't tempt me to start deleting posts or editing posts. This whole business over "ahah, weeeee" has gone too far and is just tedious, boring, and immature. Quite frankly, i like to think that this board has intelligent discussion.
-
Right. So, whenever i use the word "we", that automatically means that i'm talking about going to the toilet? All this negativity and using "urinating" as a reason to hate the name is childish. This is a fairly intelligent forum with some damn good members within it. Lets leave this idiocy to the gamespot forums, please.

Advertisement/Slogan ideas for Nintendo Wii...
Fierce_LiNk replied to Kav's topic in Nintendo Gaming
A damn good slogan, that is. Maybe have a few seconds of gameplay footage from some launch titles. Then stop. Screen goes black. The words come up. "What Is It?" Then the first letters of each word form the Wii logo. -
Next EGM to Feature Revolution on Its Cover
Fierce_LiNk replied to DiemetriX's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Where have you been all my life? Is it possible to get any more excited at the moment about this console? -
Aw well, every site is going to get members and threads like that though. Some more than others.
-
Talking to Dabookerman about this, and i was telling him how i think that the name is an abbreviation. Nintendo Wii maybe means What Is It? It's a name with which you can speculate a lot with.
-
I agree. You know, if there's anyone at the moment who's changing the image of gaming, i would have to say that it is Nintendo. The DS is really appealing to non-gamers all over the world.
-
I'm going to let this thread stay here. But, we already have 3 threads already about the name. Let's keep it organised here please, guys.
-
How awesome. "Nintendo is ******* retarded". Seriously, talk about going over the top. The name has a good philosophy surrounding it, it's unique and it's different. That's the key. It's different. I also think that Nintendo has cottoned onto people abbreviating names of their consoles. For example, N64 instead of Nintendo64. Or PS2 instead of Playstation2. Wii is short, and to me it sounds like an abbreviation. I like the name.
-
If i'm honest, i didn't like the name at first, until i read a little more into the article on this website about the name being revealed. Wii. When i read it, i read it as "why". Why did i do this? Because it's an awful lot like Nintendo WiFi. They have a consistency going on here. The Nintendo Wii. Pronounced as in "we". I think it's quite a clever name. Maybe a name too tailor made for the japanese market though? That's what worries me. One thing: How many of us liked the name "DS" when we first heard it? I thought it was quite horrid and i didn't expect to be hearing the name much. But, it's everywhere. And, it does fit in with Nintendo's philosophy.
