  1. It was a little WTF to see Link whip out this enormous metal spinner or ball and chain from his magical tunic, but I suppose that's the nature of the franchise Spells, magic, medallions, a musical instrument, fire/ice arrows... any of these in Zelda Wii would make me happy. I agree, although I wouldn't say it's a big risk taking franchise. The core gameplay has remained the same, but I totally see your point about innovating with each game (apart from TP). I suspect Zelda Wii will be the biggest risk/change yet though.
  2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Personally I'm not so keen. It's cute the first couple of times but after a while it gets a little silly. Especially when you time your jump to land on them but they suddenly stand still to do their dance, and you end up losing a life.
  3. I wonder what they had in store for the triforce hunt. Maybe lots of mini dungeons for each piece. Similar to the 'bottom of the well' dungeon from OOT. Having something like that + the 2 missing temples would have made the game even more amazing. What a shame they had to rush its release.
  4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'm amazed. Bowser's castle was awesome? 2 rooms? PISS EASY linear boring rooms? Even the DS version was ten times better. Even the castle in world 1 was more interesting!
  5. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

The last castle/level is the biggest joke I've ever seen. Great game overall, but bloody hell, that was the easiest, shortest, crappiest Bowser's castle in any Mario game. Boss fight was pretty cool though.
  6. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Really enjoying this game, the problem is... you can literally finish a world in 20-30 minutes. It's going through very quickly. I appreciate there are tons of secrets etc but still a bit disappointing. Also, why are there so few airship levels?? In the first 5 worlds there's only a single airship. Poor really, especially given how much fun they are. Would it have killed them to add 1 or 2 more? Edit: Level 8-7 is the best. f-ing. level. ever.. Ok not ever, but it's brilliant fun.
  7. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Pretty fun. - Not fan of the ice flower, AT ALL, though. Like I literally avoid picking it up. - Music and graphics are cool. - I like the goomba levels. - Propeller suit is great fun - Agree with Mike, shaking to pick things up is annoying. World 1 wasn't amazing to be honest, bit bland, but I suppose it would be.
  8. Zelda's 3rd Anniversary

Agreed, this time next year for Galaxy 2, a year later Zelda Wii
  9. Zelda's 3rd Anniversary

That's a lot of text, and half of it isn't very interesting. Where's it from?
  10. I think it will be far more radically different than that. Only 7-8 months to wait. Argh Oh please, you have no idea what you're talking about. When the game was first announced and details started to surface, maybe people were apprehensive, but once it was released and people PLAYED the game, which is the point we're talking about here (opinions and appreciation of the Zelda games as time passes) - it got excellent reviews from the beginning by both reviewers and ordinary fans. Nothing's changed since then. OOT was always well loved. TP was always really well liked. Interest hasn't wavered. Your point is flawed. The only game whereby critical acclaim has improved as time's gone on is Wind Waker. One particular case of that happening doesn't = a trend. I agree with Grazza, TP felt like a couple of steps forward and a giant step backwards for Zelda. Every iteration of 3D Zeldas brought something new to the table, TP just felt a bit meh. Great, fantastic game, I enjoyed it, but compared to the rest, it felt a bit stale and dull. A matter of opinion. Half of them were completely linear. "Swimming is really awesome now"? I found it very annoying and glitchy, and regardless, swimming was far better implemented and necessary in Majora's Mask. TP just rehashed it, again, not adding anything new to the table. So? What's your point? An improvement You get new items in every Zelda game. Another matter of opinion, compared to WW, the art style looked a little dull to me. I thought Hyrule in TP was dead actually, very little going on, especially compared to Wind Waker and Majora's Mask. There was horse riding in OOT and MM. Ok you can fight a lot easier, but it's hardly anything groundbreaking. Not sure what you mean here. The skeleton guard thing? It was cool I guess. I think you're missing Grazza's point. Of course TP had some cool inclusions, it would have gotten universally slated if there wasn't cool little things in the game like you mentioned above. The point is, TP was a fairly safe Zelda game, it didn't build on the evolutionary progression of previous Zelda games. That's the reason why, generally speaking, most people consider it the weakest of the 3D Zeldas, and why Aonuma and Miyamoto are interested in breathing new life into the next Zelda game. But back to your point about opinions on Zelda games changing over time, I think that's bollocks personally. No one hated OOT. No one hated MM. And opinions on TP don't seem to have changed either. The only one that has is Wind Waker, and I really do suspect it's because people have gotten used to the art style, and when compared to the relatively bland and bleak style of TP... it's made WW more popular.
  11. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Do the world maps look good? Hopefully not like the boring left to right ones from the DS version.
  12. Who hated Majora's Mask? Generally speaking, no one. It got rave reviews across the board from reviewers and regular gamers and it's popularity has never fluctuated. Who hated Twilight Princess? It wasn't as well loved as other Zeldas, and rightly so, but I don't recall the game suddenly getting more popular as time went on. It's always been "a great game, but a bit meh" (again, generally speaking) I think it takes time for people to get used to something (WW's art style, the Wii name, the Wii control mechanism), but in terms of Zelda games, the only one I believe where the perception of it has changed over time, is Wind Waker, not really well liked at first, but as time goes on, it's remembered by fans far more fondly. I see what you're saying about people hating something, then when a new one comes out, the old one was great etc... - but I'm not so sure it applies to Zelda. My opinion obviously, could be wrong.
  13. I don't see what you're getting at. Public perception of MM or TP hasn't changed. MM was always well loved and TP, generally people found it a very good game, if a little disappointing (after the unbelievable hype). The only game that seems to have improved in people's minds as time's gone on is WW, and even that probably has a bit to do with getting used to the art style.
  14. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

You speak a lot of sense mcj
  15. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Indeed, I'm putting the 'boring' quote down to the one guy who had more fun with single player. This looks like a top 1-player Mario game, which is great.
  16. I'm a bit apprehensive about this. Changing the Zelda formula I mean, there's a reason why it's one of the biggest game franchises around, with the games consistently getting excellent reviews. I dunno, I just hope the change isn't too drastic. I think there'll be a bit of uproar at first though, akin to what we had when Wind Waker was first shown. Then again that was just a graphic style, this sounds like something a lot more substantial.
  17. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Single player is 'boring'? How so IGN? Was Super Mario World single player boring?
  18. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Argh, am I the only one who can't get the title music jingle out of my head?? It's very catchy. Plus it's easy to take the Gametrailers one a lot more seriously. The guy narrating them is excellent, whereas Matt Cassamasisiasina, while ok, makes it sound like an amateur youtube review. Not his fault I suppose. Mind you I'm a little annoyed at the GT review for this game spoiling a couple of hidden secrets in the game. Especially a major one I had no idea was even in the game.
  19. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Gametrailers nintendo video reviews really are fantastic. Much much better than the IGN equivalent, particularly the new shortened IGN ones.
  20. Of course Link will have a sword during the game. The girl in the released artwork is obviously some sort of embodiment of the Master sword, the details are the same. That doesn't mean he won't use the sword at all throughout the game.
  21. Super Mario Galaxy 2

Be nice to get a bit more info than just "it's going to be really challenging". I suppose the media blitz will come in 2010. Cannot. wait. I hope the soundtrack is as good, the trailer music gives me high hopes.
  22. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Yeah indeed it does! I'm not really interested in multiplayer platforming so I'm pleased it should be a great game as single player!
  23. Super Mario Galaxy

Luigi was fine, didn't mind the subtle change in abilities. I was a little disappointed with the extra galaxy at the very end though. Gorgeous visually and all, but a couple of small challenges would have been nice.
  24. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Agreed! Very nice! No spoilers about the final boss, world 9 etc please
  25. Majora's Mask

For the third billionth time, I am not judging the MM soundtrack. I said in my first post on here that I liked the soundtrack. what I wasn't so keen on, were the Ocarina tunes. Apart from that, I love the music in MM.
