20 top-selling videogame franchises of all time
LazyBoy replied to Stocka's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Now correct me if i'm wrong but weren't there only two lineage games? If so then 43mil is an incredible amount, especially since the Koreans are like the only people who buy it. -
I'd like the thing to use the Wiimote for control, and have classic control as an option. Steer with the Wiimote, B to boost, 1 to acclerate, 2 to brake, the control pad to attack in various directions and the A button for whatever i've forgotten. I want the custom build system from GX as well, but also go further with the looks, make it fully customisable. Also, anyone reckon a track editor/build mode would be cool.

Dabookerman, seriously dude, I know you have a hard on for the series, but you don't have to talk down to me. I even said I understood it, I just thought it was stupid. Accept it. And Zechs, there would be no point in explaining Killer7 to you. Part of the game is coming up with your own interpretation, so people take different things away from it. Everyone is supposed to take their own things away from the game.

Without going into too much detail, it kind of just felt that the writers sat down and tried to come up with a complicated plot with lots of twists, instead of a solid story on it own. Whereas 1 and 3 felt more like Fight Club, a great plot with a twist central to the story, 2 felt more like that movie Basic, where it felt like they came up with a really complicated twist and built around it. It just felt sloppy.

Killer7s ending was awesome. MGS2's ending was alright, but the whole game was a bit stupid. Nothing on 1 or 3.

Yeah completely, I mean the troll was piss easy to beat, but all i'm saying is...

The Perfect Dark ending was awesome. So what if it was different to Goldeneye, it was doing stuff its own way. Also disagree with Shenmue II. Granted the ending was a little anti-climactic, but the story isn't at its climax yet, so just wait. Plus there was...

Big fan of the last one, only thing it was missing was some multiplayer options. This should be a lot of fun.

Stamper brothers leave Rare to pursue other opportunities
LazyBoy replied to IMJ's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Rare was a great great company, and back in the day up with Nintendo, Capcom, Sega and Konami. The games started declining with Donkey Kong 64. A good game, but a collect-a-thon of epic proportions. However it was packed full of that token rareware love. Starfox adventures was a real disapointment. Perfect dark zero was awful. It wasn't that bad of a game, but I couldn't play it, because I just kept comparing it to the original, one of the N64 greats, and it fell so short, I couldn't bring myself to finish it. -
Screw you wii Sports - The official wii sports bitching thread
LazyBoy replied to blender's topic in Nintendo Gaming
WiiSports is a brilliant brilliant game, and my game of the year. Yes boxing has it flaws, but the nights i've spent drunk with groups of friends playing tennis or bowling have had laughs I haven't experienced since Goldeneye. -
Thanks for the oh so inspiring advice, but I already have one, two if we're being honest. I think it would work well on the Wii.
-
As many have said, it would depend on the type of game, and if/to what extent it enhances the gameplay. So if it was an FPS that was done well, or Resi 4, then yes. The monkey balls, if done the same as the current Wii iteration, the yes as well. Killer 7, Rouge Squadron (wiimote as one of those plane control stick thingys), Fire Emblem and Metroid would also get serious considerations. And Gears of War. What, I can dream.
-
WiiSports, because I couldn't play Zelda or Gears of War with the 5 year old I babysit.
-
Yeah but your picking on the specifics. Look at the big picture. You're still going into dungeons, getting a weapon, defeating a boss. Go to the next one. The classic tunes remixed, classic weapons like the bow and slingshot, locations like death mountain, a parallel realm. It doesn't matter that the triforce was hardly in there or songs only came in the form of howling, they were just fragments of old games put in to remind you of the old days, when you went on a triforce hunt or played the Ocarina. Occoco ruled. And i'm not denying their isn't new stuff in there. But I think Aonuma said it best when he said it was "120% Zelda".

I'm not saying that it's going completely party game based, i'm just saying that the days of someone locked in a room on his own playing his vodeo games and being taken over by days of friends round laughing around a game of WiiSports. And I think my comment about it being a flashback to all things Zelda is very true. I mean hell, the reason most reviewers marked the game down is because it was too similar to previous Zelda's. I mean give me something in Twilight Princess that hadn't appeared in some form in other Zelda games (forgetting control here).

Alright i've just finished the game for the second time, and since you guys are bitting each others heads off, I thought it was a good time to jump in. This is going to be a bit of a rant, so stick with me. I love this game, I do, but not for the obvious reasons. To me as I replayed it, it felt like a homage to an era of gaming now coming to an end. Let me explain. With the Wii we're seeing this new stage of gaming. Party games come to center stage, we're encouraged to play with friends, and the time of one guy being locked in his room with a 50-hour dungeon crawl is now no longer. Video games are getting cool. I mean look back at the SNES, Mega Drive, even the N64 and Playstation. Games were mainly made for the sole gamer, granted with the N64 and Playstation we saw the emergence of more multiplayer games (in my opinion Goldeneye is one of the big starters of this movement). I guess this is why back then, gaming was uncool. But then last gen we saw a real jump. XBox live we see online gaming starting to make some real progress. Playstation 2 and Gamecube really started to give us party games. The eyetoy, singstar, Guitar Hero, Donkey Konga, Mario party. No story, simple gameplay, lots of people. And this new generation will only further this fact. The Wii launched with WiiSports, WiiPlay, Rayman, Monkey Ball, all party game orientated. The 360 has ofcourse gone further with its online campaign, as has the PS3, which also shows the ability to "play together". What i'm saying is those days of dungeons, sword-fighting and a story developed around a sole hero are quick coming to a close. And that's what Zelda is. Actually Zelda is almost the definition of this type of game. And so that's why TP felt like a homage to me. All the classic elements were there, and the ability to learn secret moves only furthered it. As I played the game, I almost felt nostalgic. The next Zelda willl be different, we already know that. So I consider this Zelda TP somewhat of a flashback, kind of like the last few episodes of a TV series. And not only for Zelda, but for adventure gaming as we know it.

So it seems like more of you have beat it know. Has there been any talk of timeline yet? Keep spoilers in mind people.
-
Yeah might be a laugh. So what do we do now.
-
My bad. So it could still be coming?

Why not have a character that you follow through various stages of his/her life. That way you can see stuff develop, and a city build up around you. Plus since policing also develops, there's a natural reason to increase dificulty. Also I think it should take place in Shanghai. Freaking love that city. Diverse, huge, and it has a real character. Plus driving would be hilarious because they can't do it for sh*t over there.
-
I may be totally wrong here but didn't they announce it was a rhythm/action game called something like Funkyzilla or Funkydilla. Then I think it was canned.
-
I don't know if you can call it a freebie, but I reckon it's one of the best games i've ever played. No other game i've ever owned have I shared with more people. I know people will look down on it because of it's extremly simplified gameplay, and unremarkable graphics, but i've played the game with 5 year olds and 70 year olds, and i've had fun. And to me that's the sign of a good game. Probably the best pack-in ever.
