I definitely agree with you on that.

I can only really remember 2 of the tracks. While those two are nice, they don't really resonate with me as well as the average Zelda soundtrack.

It says a lot when the best music this game has to offer can't actually be heard in the game itself.

They should offer free music DLC which let's you play memorable tracks in certain areas.

  2. I must say, I have been slightly disappointed by the music in this game so far.

I know it must have been a conscious choice to make the music more atmospheric rather than more pronounced melodies, but with this being a Zelda game it's hard to not notice the lack of memorable tunes. Mind you, I'm nowhere near finished so I am looking forward to hearing more tunes in villages and whatnot, but I get the feeling the game is just not going to come close to a Windwaker score or a Majora's Mask score.

As others have said it's literally your own adventure, make it as you wish, that's the beauty of the game :) One suggestion I do have though would be to not rush unlocking all the towers, take it one region at a time. Tower > explore fully > move on, repeat. That way there's always the mystery of what the rest of the world looks like and you don't experience the whole map in one sitting. But then again that's just personal preference so feel free to completely go against that!

Yeah, that's exactly my play style.

I don't think you can miss anything crucial. The game is made in a way that allows you to play it however you want. For example, the horse stable that you mentioned may have been something that others may not have come across because they decided to go a different route. The first time I went through the game my first objective was to fill in the map by going to each of the towers, whereas others went about clearing the map a section at a time. It all comes down to what your own personal in game objectives are.

    Good point!

I guess that was a question from the perspective of older Zelda games, haha.

  5. So having recently gotten my hands on a Switch and exploring the wonderful world of Hyrule destroyed by Calamity Ganon 100 years ago, I am now at the first horse stable heading towards Kakariko Village.

I am just amazed at how different it feels from previous big Zelda titles and the openness of it all really has me excited to come back home and dive right back into the wild. So much to sniff out, explore and collect, and discovering the various ways you can use items is really engaging and fun.

The added difficulty also comes as a welcome departure from the older games. I can't really remember dying in Skyward Sword, and I've already died several times due to some miscalculations or just straight up thinking I can charge enemies bigger than myself with a rusty blade and hope for the best.

I'm looking forward to meeting new characters and acquiring new skills!

Just a question to my fellow Nyurpers: Any crucial things you guys think I might have missed on my way to that first horse stable? Perhaps tell me with a cryptic hint if so.

  6. Having recently obtained a Switch and salivating at all the sexy downloadables I've put in my wanted list, I was struck by one simple thought: Hollow Knight or Shovel Knight?

    Good, who even wants Ridley?

I do. In fact, I think all the major Nintendo properties in Smash should at least have one villain playable. So the wait is on for the likes of  King K. RoolPorky, and Black Shadow to lay the smack down on their hero counterparts.

  8. Inside is coming too! Wow!

Really digging NIntendo's eShop offerings at the moment. I basically browsed through a year's worth of eShop content yesterday, and had to stop several times saying 'wait, ... is also on here!?!'

Still. could do with some more horror games though.

  9. So my Switch safely arrived, played some Overcooked on it with my girlfriend already, and having a good time.

I will get more into it once a certain test I will take on the 1st of July is over, and I'll add my code and whatnot to the list as well. Soon I will make my glorious return to the N-Europe Mario Kart League! ...

I must say though WHAT THE FUCK happened to Nintendo's ability to create majestic home menu's with some nice little background music...

  10. Guys, it's happening! Slap me on the list of soon-to-be new Switch owner (neon red & blue).

My gaming life hasn't been as bustling as when I was a young and carefree pupper, but I've always been keeping my eyes on the news and potential games I'd like to play. The backlog has become a mighty beast, but there are certain franchises I would never give up on, one of course being The Legend of Zelda. I can't wait to dive into Breath of the Wild and get lost in its world and learn more about the lore. I'm also looking forward to downloading some gems on the eShop and discover my love for games again :)

Thanks for keeping this going, man. I'll finally be getting a Switch soon with Breath of the Wild, so I am definitely trying to get back into the gaming groove nowadays.

Can't believe Bomberman was so casually announced! I do hope it forweshadows the rumoured Simon Belmont reveal along with a slick Castlevania Switch collection, and you can bet your ass that Travis Touchdown will be in this!

  12. Does anyone think that it might be Tony who will utter the famous 'With great power, comes great responsibility' line to Peter in Avengers 4?

Given that Stark is kind of Pete's male role model in the cinematic universe, and the line would suit Tony well right before he sacrifices himself or something...

  13. NEWCOMERS:

    1. Ice Climbers, a no-brainer really. They're definitely coming back.

    2. Travis Touchdown, Suda has expressed multiple times that he wants him in badly, and with his new game coming to the Switch this one seems very likely.

    3. Paper Mario, I am just as amazed as Glen-i that he still is not a fighter yet. Mt. Game&Watch needs a proper rival! There was a Paper Mario stage in the 3DS version, but this series deserves more since it has so many memorable characters.

    4. Professor Layton, with 6 games bringing sons and their mothers together for a bit of puzzling on the (3)DS, 2 movies, and Layton's daughter embarking on her own adventures, I think one of Level-5's most iconic characters is due for his debut.

    5. Cranky Kong, I feel good about another addition in the Kong family getting in the arena. It could just as well be Dixie or Funky, or even all three, but I'm just putting Cranky up here.

    6. Wolf, I think he might be coming back as well.

    7. Rayman, I couldn't think of any other character that would be the first to represent a 3rd party Western studio. Ubisoft has consistently stood by Nintendo's side even through some hard times, and with Rayman Legends having been exclusive for a while, and now with the Rabbids cross-over I DO HOPE we will get Rayman in Smash and not a tower of Rabbids. SO HELP ME GOD if the Rabbids get chosen over Rayman, so help me god...

    8. Heihachi Mishima:

    Spoiler

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Ryu smash reveal Heihachi mii

With Namco Bandai most likely helping out again, they want this to happen. This is of course, assuming we'll get most of the characters from the previous Smash back instead of some kind of light reboot.

    9. Captain Toad, seems like something likely.

    10. Decidueye, this big ass owl is a cool candidate, but they might go for a Gen 8 one. It's always hard to predict Pokémon.

    11. Amaterasu, with the recent reveal of Okami coming to the Switch, and given Platinum's good relationship with Nintendo, I can see this happen, though I do not know if Capcom owns this character or if Platinum does. But there's nothing a little late night drink at the bar between Platinum and Capcom execs can't solve

    12. New Fire Emblem character, haven't played anything Fire Emblem related after Awakening, but I'm sure a character or two from the newer games will get in.

    13. Bomberman, basing this solely on the new Bomberman game on the Switch. It seems Konami still has some fight left in them and given their strong bond with Nintendo systems back in the day I could see this happen.

    14. Simon Belmont, A character with a whip, Sakurai! A WHIP! Though the franchise has kind of fallen into obscurity, so this one is less likely unfortunately. Still, something Castlevania related should still be in Smash.

    15. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: RIDLEY!!!

    9a4-640x390.png

Sakurai knows the demand is there, just get Samus her archnemesis in there already!

    -----------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure if the development time of this new Smash game for Switch has been sufficient enough to be optimistic about most if not all characters returning. But boy do I hope he won't cut too many!

  14.

Maaan, just getting more of this:

Excites me in a way no grown man should ever be excited

I really hope we'll get some sort of Subspace Emissary type story mode again, so that we won't just get to have glorious newcomer introductions, but also some amazing cinematic footage in the game.

Some of the shots are just screaming to be made into a poster or painting or something:

It's just astounding how much Sakurai and co. manage to put in this franchise. I feel bad not having been able to purchase Smash WiiU, but I am all game for the Switch!

  15. Now I know these reaction videos can be a tad cringy at times, but I just love it how Smash brings people together. The Smash hype trains is one of the realest hype trains out there.

The love for videogames sure is alive and kickin'.

  16. God damn. I SAID GOD DAMN!

That's how you invite a Newcomer! Not some cutesy letter in their mailbox, no, you bring the ol' veteran crew and your burning logo as big as the sun, remain in the shadows, and just stare at them untill they join you in the scorching arena of Smash!
