  1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

God damn. I SAID GOD DAMN! That's how you invite a Newcomer! Not some cutesy letter in their mailbox, no, you bring the ol' veteran crew and your burning logo as big as the sun, remain in the shadows, and just stare at them untill they join you in the scorching arena of Smash! I have seen the light!
  2. The ever changing mechanics of Pokemon

@Glen-i Groudon!?! You my friend, have an interesting taste, haha. I once dated a girl who was totally into: for some reason... I really like Ghost and Dark Pokémon, but this is just some floating gas... (then again so are Gastly and Haunter, but they are bad ass) From what I can remember one of my big favourites has always been Manectric and as far as evolutions of starters go I have a huge soft spot for Empoleon since I trained him up pretty high back in the day. I've been going through all the anime in Japanese over the years to aid in my studies, and I am now finally at the end of The Battle Frontier. I can't wait to see Empoleon in action in the next season! I also do really like the Alolan forms of some classics. Diglet and Dugtrio in particular are hilarious I expect them to do more of these in the future, and maybe also from the Johto region. Having started Alpha Sapphire I came to realize that your character is actually from Johto It's all CONNECTED! How I long for a game with all the regions in it. Or maybe they could fuse Gen 4 and 5 into one game and connect those regions just to get things going.
  3. The ever changing mechanics of Pokemon

Oh, I hadn't even seen that one yet, haha. Yeah, that one looks quite nice compared to some other monstrosities. I concur with your view on that they should've been bosses. I do hope they leave the Ultra stuff to the Alola world. Reading about B/W2 I am actually tempted to buy it and see how the story progresses. I never did buy any 'sequels' so to speak, but from what I remember, and your write-up confirms this, the story is quite deep and enthralling. All in good time though, all in good time. I've got a Torchic to look after now. Also, are you saying that the Gen I and II downloadables on the 3DS require Pokétransporter to get them to the bank? Furthermore, I will require some help evolving some Pokémon through trade. I will ket you know when the time is nigh. It's good to be part of a forum Another question I've been meaning to ask: What is everyone's favourite (or top 3) Pokémon?
  4. The ever changing mechanics of Pokemon

Tepig, heh, always felt like a meme turned into a Pokémon name: Teh Pig (lolz) Anyways, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Ultra Beasts introduced in Sun/Moon, because once I got to the post game of said games I had no idea how to feel about it. Once I discovered they were actually added to your Pokédex, thus making these beasts Pokémon I guess, I didn't know what to think. These ugly ass designs felt so out of place with my concept of what Pokémon are I really hope they don't double down on these things and keep this whole 'Ultra Realm' or whatever they call it contained to these games. Also, do you reckon we might be getting a remake of Gen 4 on Switch or perhaps as a swan song for the 3DS? Edit: I just started Alpa Sapphire, and I gotta say, I am very much looking forward to this adventure of nostalgia.
  5. The ever changing mechanics of Pokemon

Maaan, this thread is a massive nostalgia trip, Thanks Glen-i ! It's fun to see different people having different nostalgic feelings for different Pokémon games for different reasons. For me, starting from Gen 4, or maybe even parts of Gen 3, me memory on certain tunes, areas, Pokémon, storylines, and whatnot start to become vague. Even though I own most of the games, I am quite happy they do these remakes so I can relive them once again as if they were entirely new games. I played the fuck out of Gen 1 and 2 when I was a kid, so I suppose that's why these are etched into my memory, though for some reason Gen 3 is my favourite, and I wonder if it will remain so after playing Alpha Sapphire. I don't know why, but Pokémon is a game series that has just fused with my soul for some reason. As much as I absolutely adore Nintendo's other flagpole series as well as a plethora of their other offerings, Indie games, and games on other systems, Pokémon is the only series that I just get a mad craving for from time to time. Looking past the competitive scene and vast number of extra things to do GameFreak throws in the games these days, I am at my happiest when I sit down in a lazy chair, have some good tea beside me, switch on whatever console or handheld the Pokémon game is on this time, and KNOW that I am in for an amazing journey where I make Pokémon buddies who stick with me 'till the end. It is that element, going on an adventure with a team, the very core of Pokémon that makes me come back to the franchise time and time again. I remember saying to myself I would quit the franchise with Gen 4, then I said the same buying Pokémon Black, then again with Pokémon X.....now I've just given up and let lust flow naturally.
  6. Pokemon Gold & Silver (3DS eShop)

Somehow I always end up with very shitty teams when I near the Elite Four in most Pokémon games, but this time I was particularly lacking in the variety of types I had so I got stuck grinding in Victory Road for a while to buff my team up a bit. Though, in the end, my Xatu and Feraligatr fucked up some fools and my level 41 Jumpluff took out Lance's three Dragonite's with only Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, and Tackle. That felt pretty epic and am quite proud of the little guy. I'm quite happy these games are connected to the Pokémon Bank and I am trying my best to actually "Catch 'em All", but Pokémon you can only get through trading will need some help. I also was able to buy Alpha Sapphire on the cheap. looking forward to revisiting my favourite Pokémon game (or maybe this is just the power of nostalgia since it was the only Pokémon game I never owned originally but played on an emulator) I have fallen into a mad Pokémon addiction as of late and I am forgetting to play any other games
  7. The joke I laughed at the loudest was the moment where they show a space ship is landing with lots of steam. I'm all like 'Hmmmm, that looks a lot like an iron. They're really basing ships on an iron now...heh' Then the camera zooms out and shows that it is actually clothes being ironed. This was a good scene. I enjoyed this. Oh, and if we do not get at least a light saber duel akin to the masterfully executed Duel of Fates I will be disappointed in this trilogy.
  8. Pokemon Gold & Silver (3DS eShop)

So annoyed I bought Silver and then a week or two after this is announced.....They're forcing my hand here.
  9. Pokemon Gold & Silver (3DS eShop)

I really want Crystal, since I've never played it and I have heard interesting things about it. Can't get much more retro than being surprised by an old school Pokémon game, so I hope it will come soon.
  10. The N-Europe top 10 Nintendo games of all time.

This is a hard one, fellas, but I understand there comes a time in life when choices need to be made and top 10 lists need to be created. This list represents the Nintendo games that have made enough of an impact on me for them to come up in my mind right away at the prospect of creating a top 10 list. 10. F-Zero GX Probably one of the last franchises I discovered in my later years and having experience retroactively. I was able to hunt down a second hand copy and played it on my Wii, but nothing could have prepared my for what I was about to experience. The upbeat electro-techno! The laser-fast bumper-ramming! The deep lore surrounding the characters! Yes, my friends, this became one of my favourite racing games of all time in a heart beat. A heart beat that kept pounding faster and faster as I was forced back in my couch because of all the G-forces! 9. Pikmin 2 The Pikmin franchise has a special place in my heart simply because it mixes the guilt of failing your sweet little pikmin with the exploration of great environments. I recall liking the fact that there are no day limits in Pikmin 2, so you had all the time in the world to go about exploring during the day time in the different regions. That, and the cave exploration in this game was in a league of its own and seriously creepy and hard. Marching through the dark tunnels a 100 pikmin strong while they hum marching tunes when suddenly a luminescent frog falls down and kills almost your entire time because you took a wrong turn was particularly traumatic. 8. Metroid Prime Trilogy I know this is technically cheating, but god damnit I needs to be this way. If I had to pick I'd probably say Metroid Prime 1, though Metroid Prime 3 was the first one I've played. Atmosphere, isolation, soundtrack, lore. All spot on! The franchise that got me into Samus made a lasting impression. 7. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Now whilst I do prefer the art style and the characters of the previous games in the series more, in terms of hours put in a Nintendo game, I don't think any game comes closer that Days of Ruin. For that I had to put it on the list. I think me and a couple of friends have been getting together from time to time and playing this gem for nearly 8 years now and with it clearly being the most balanced game out of all of them we have no intention of slowing down this tradition. Though we all are getting older and the distance between one another might increase, so Wargroove might prove to be a great alternative here. 6. Mario & Luigi : Superstar Saga This is another one of those games where you're taking on a humorous and thrilling adventure in the same vain as in the Paper Mario franchise. That's probably the reason why I enjoyed it so much, despite having played many Gameboy Advance games on an emulator back in the day. The Bean Bean Kingdom was a fun region to explore and as a game that introduced Fawful into our gaming minds it's hard to not give it a spot on this list. The hilarious writing and 'Italian' conversations between the bros. have stuck with me ever since. I really enjoy these kind of games where you enter a new world and every chapter so to speak brings something new to the table. No game in the series has yet to top this one for me. I have yet to play Dream Team Bros. and Paper Jam, so I need to judge and see if this franchise has fallen as much from grace as the Paper Mario franchise has. 5. Super Mario Galaxy 2 I do not remember a whole lot specifically about Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. All I remember it that they both blew my young adolescent mind with the most amazing music and engaging gameplay. Putting such an acrobatic plumber in the mids of so many beautiful environments is a stroke of genius. 4. Pokémon Gold/Silver I remember it very well. Me and a friend of mine, I guess we were about 8 or 9, went from door to door asking if we could do some chores for people in exchange for a bit of money. There was a time limit: the release date of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver in Europe. For some reason I remember having to collect at least 100 guilders (pre-euro currency in NL), maybe to buy both games. I bought gold, my friend got Silver and are coming summer and past time was absorbed by these gems. I cannot believe to this day that no other Pokémon game has every attempted to incorporate another region in there. I am extremely tempted to download one of the two again on my 3DS, but I'd rather get Crystal which I've never played, if that is in the pipeline. Cyndaquil reigns supreme! 3. The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker Such a great game. SUCH A GREAT GAME! Just like my number 2 spot, I got this game early on when I got my gamecube in its final year. It was, in effect, the first Zelda game I bought with my own money for my own system and thus another nostalgic connection was born. Sailing across that vast blue ocean, enjoying the wonderful graphical style, I can't help but wish Nintendo would make another Zelda in that same vain again. Having said that, I can't wait to finally get a Switch one day and get lost in Breath of the Wild. 2. Paper Mario & The Thousand Year Door I have some deep nostalgic roots with this game, and I couldn't be happier that this was one of the first games I bought for my gamecube once I switched over from Sony to Nintendo. Every chapter brings it's own unique flavour in the form of partners, bosses, music, and gameplay. A surprisingly dark story for a Mario game makes this one of Nintendo's unusual greats. 1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl I have no doubt that the newest iteration on the WiiU is even better, but the absence of a story mode makes Brawl an amazing collaborative art-piece the likes of which no Nintendo game has ever seen. Samus & Pikachu, Lucas & Pokemon Trainer, Captain Falcon & Captain Olimar...need I say more. I'm a sucker for these kind of team-ups and my hope is that Nintendo will one day release a similar story mode either in Smash or as a separate game all together!
  11. Pokémon Sun/Moon

Wow. You know, I think it's time to put Pokémon down again for a little while and focus on some other games. The adventure is the most fun for me anyways. Thanks @Glen-i for helping me get some Pokémon! Time for me to go through some other games in the ol' backlog.
  12. Pokémon Sun/Moon

Ha! I didn't know about this Beast yet, and I thought I had finished the post-game....I thought 'Codename: Gluttony' was the final Beast.... Any hints on where I should be looking?
  13. Pokémon Sun/Moon

So I have to ask. What's up with all this Ultra Beast nonsense and why are they registered in my pokedex? Is Gamefreak gearing up for a spin-off series where you hunt these rejected pokemon designs?
  14. Super Mario Odyssey

Oh man. That T-Rex one is amazing! The sons o' bitches at Nintendo have done it again. Who'd have thought that a plumber would be one of the most iconic characters in video game history.
  15. Metroid Samus Returns for 3DS (2D Metroid game)

Yeah, It's just how I like to see NINTENDO's holy Triforce: The 'stache, the green hat and the hot blonde The Metroid series has a lot of unexplored depths in it, but perhaps its genre hinders it from being a big seller such as Fire Emblem with its 'kyara-moe' focus these days or Pokémon with its......its Pokémon-ness. That reminds me @Glen-i I need help evolving my Magmar
  16. Metroid Samus Returns for 3DS (2D Metroid game)

I am pleased that NINTENDO is trying to put Metroid back alongside Mario and Zelda. I had always considered NINTENDO's big three legendary series to be Mario, Zelda and Metroid and with this game and a new Prime game on the horizon I hope it will firmly establish this hot blond into the minds of new gamers again.
  17. Questions

I can't quite find how I can make sure that I always see the most recent message when I open a thread as opposed to seeing the very first post.
  18. Pokémon Sun/Moon

Yeah, I thought you only had a few minutes to spare before it became 10 am. Don't worry, I always name them back into Japanese since they are still my Pokemon. I am actually on a quest now to try and capture all the Pokemon starting with Gen 1. I always caught the Pokemon that I liked and never really payed any attention to 'Catching the all', but with the re-release of Pokemon Yellow on the eShop I have started try and embark on this massive undertaking of which I'm sure many of you have already achieved. I have caught many on Pokemon Yellow, but I'm not there yet.
  19. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Interesting you guys point this out regarding DKCR. Somewhere in the back of my mind it felt like I did enjoy that game more, but that might be down to the time I played it in and the person I played it with. Tropical Freeze has David Wise's godly musical fingers all over it though. Some goooooood grooves right there. As for Retro Studios: I am almost inclined to believe they have a smaller team remastering the two games for the Switch and throwing in an extra world or two and that the main team is working on something else.
  20. Pokémon Sun/Moon

Sure, let's do it now real quick....
  21. Pokémon Sun/Moon

So now I need help evolving my Graveler, @Glen-i I need to be well prepared for the Elite Four. I also finally managed to evolve my Blue Crab Friend near the Ice Stone, and I am having mixed feelings. I liked the energy and appearance of his pre-evolved form more, but his evolved form also has a funny look to him. I guess I just expected a bit more bad-ass yet comical looking Ice-boxer Crab. This is more like an abominable snowman kind of Crab.
  22. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

So I finally beat the main story of this bad puppy. A short but sweet game, and undoubtedly more brutal as I unlock the extra levels and the secret world. Dongs will expand! I must say that I really love the personality of the characters. Donkey Kong is such a love able big lump of fur who loves to chow down on some bananas and kidnap damsels. His expression is still priceless; something which Mario Kart 8 amplified, haha.
  23. Pokémon Sun/Moon

@Glen\-i Could you help me evolve my Electabuzz?
  24. Splatoon 2

I've decided to get a Splatoon Switch Pack with Zelda and Mario around October. I must get in on this Splatoon shenanigans. All I ever did play of it was the test fire for the original Splatoon on the WiiU.
  25. Metroid Prime 4 (Switch)

Isn't Kensuke Tanabe at the helm of this? Hasn't he had a hand in the all the Metroid games beginning with Prime and excluding Other M? Regarding the reveal, I'd say that the mention of Metroid Prime 4 combined with the showing of Metroid: Samus Returns tries to get across, as Reggie said, that Metroid is an important franchise to them, something that was a bit up in the air since the downward spiral starting with Other M (even though I personally enjoyed the game). It gets a pass in my book.
