I've just had a really nice experience ~ an advert on a website started playing audio (usually horribly annoying!!). it was for "blueberry frost" scented airwick candle, i think... some big brand air freshener, anyway... when the advert lady said the word "frost" (my new surname since marrying mr. @Jamba) i thought of the word as my name, rather than just a random word. i know that's only a tiny thing, but it felt really nice ^_^ ...also, the 4 letter word beginning with C that sounds like "punt" is NEVER ok for me. not as a joke, not as a throwaway comment, neveeerrrr. i just can't handle it o_O i found this pretty interesting: WARNING! UUURGHHGHGHHHHHKKKSKSKSTHEOOUGHLKmlfjhsnln been going at it with the phone calls and emails since @Jamba left for work this morning... feel like i'm getting NOWHERE (i was really happy last week 'cause i was getting the feedback from linkedin where peoplewere actually looking at my profile, but NOTHING today....) thanks to @Ashley who sent me a link to the gamedevmap - i've gone through every nearby place on the site (a few were divisions of blitz so i got a nice run-around in an endless voicemail system) jamba was awesome enough to buy me some really good migraine meds yesterday and i've already needed to take a set of pills today... i dont want to shut off the computer but i think i'm going to have to at this point....... ugh. ok... let's try turning this into a positive: since one potential employer has asked me for some 2D illustration examples (and i don't have anything to show them) maybe after 10 mins in a dark room i'll break out the pens and crayons and try to crank out some AAAAART.

i find that gently chasing up applications is really important - from my point of view when i was actually in charge of recruitment, the applicants who chased up their initial CV were usually the ones i'd invite for interview... the ones who bugged me too much were NEVER invited for interview tho - so now I'M looking for work - i know i have to chase up, but i'm terrified of annoying people into throwing my application out. O_o you have a job that's getting you by - that's brilliant... it's not time for you to give up just yet!! is there something you can do to brush up on your programming skillz? maybe start a project of your own? if anything thatd look good on the cv... thanks man! after some quick research, their website is not functional, the only contact details i can find are from 2008 and their facebook page hasn't been updated for almost a year. i also seached the CEO's name on Linkedin and found the CEO of a gaminc co. in leamington - may be coincidence as lightning fish is not mentioned on his profile... but it'll be worth ringing the one number i *can* find tomorrow i guess.. if they're not still functional in Banbury i'll give this other company a call...

hmm.. i think this may be the thread in which i finally document all of my ghibli stuff... my latest addition to my studio ghibli merch collection is a 1:1 statuette replica of the baron from whisper of the heart, he even has a little music box built in which plays "country road" :3 i'd take pictures now, but a) lighting is bad and b) jamba is using the living room for co-op borderlands 2 tonight..

So, a guy comes into the store the other day and is talking to me and my colleague, who i shall name jim. jim is quite a feminine guy but identifies as straight. The customer is quite a blokey-bloke. Jim walks away from the conversation briefly and then bounces back over to us and basically does a little pirouette and jazz hands to announce that he's back in the conversation. customer: woah! that was... the CAMPEST thing i've ever seen. the customer then goes on to tell this C&B story about how, when he was a policeman he outed one of his fellow workmates by noticing little "telltale signs" in his mannerisms - he goes on to explain that gay guys smoke in a certain way - he thinks they hold their cigarettes lower down than "normal people" and they also do a little head flick away from the cigarette when they finish a drag - he demonstrates with his index and middle finger and an imaginary cigarette. the conversation is clearly upsetting my colleague and making him pretty uncomfortable since it was directly followed by the customer saying how "camp" his mannerisms were... jim takes it that the customer is implying that he's "secretly" gay jim: w- well, *i* don't smoke like that...you can't honestly think you can tell- me: (in a voice SO tinged with deadpan sarcasm Wednesday Adams would've been proud) no, no - that's totally correct - how people smoke a cigarette is a totally accurate way to tell if they're gay or not - my lesbian friend... when she smokes, she goes like this: i hold up my two fingers with an imaginary cigarette, go to take a drag, but instead stick my tongue in between my two fingers. jim nearly falls over laughing and i just give the customer a "do you see how stupid your theory was?" look. i don't know if he got it, but at least i made jim feel better and diffused a potentially REALLY bad argument.

y'know, i was originally going to post my story as a "was this the right thing to do" kinda thread... but then i decided that would be BORING and thought stupid customers would be a way more fun. O_W is always going to be entitled to his opinion, even if i think he's bloody crazy. urm... from the "=P" smiley i'd guess this was a joke, but just incase you're serious, i actually *have* to inform parents of game ratings if i suspect they're buying the game for someone who's underaged... it proves i've shown due diligence in the unlikely event of the parent then complaining... honestly tho, even if i didn't have to under the company policy, i would have mentioned it - i think it's a huge problem that parents are under/misinformed when it comes to games ratings and (aside from the obvious THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! reasons) it leaves online communities for such games swamped with foul mouthed little brats who can't handle decent competition and basically ruin the rest of the game for others.. a la THIS article n' stuff... aside from all those good reasons... i also enjoyed ruining his day.
