  1. I watched it and while I should be happy that Russell T. Davis, David Tennant and Catherine Tate are back, the episode I watched felt average.

As for the recent Children in Need mini episode, I thought this one was better for Comic Relief was better -

Star Trek II Video Game Watch

    • Original Release: 1983 (Possibly)
    • Developer: Collins
    • Publisher: Collins
    • Original Platform: Electronic Handheld
    • Not played: Too expensive to get second hand.

I’ve found conflicting information on when this was released, with some places stating 1992. I think it was released in the early 80s in Hong Kong.

Enemies orbit the Enterprise in a circle and you have to aim missiles to shoot them. The game also functions as a digital watch.

I had one of these back in the mid 80s so definitely not from 1992. The strap was plastic and I think it broke after some use over time. Sadly I don't have it now.

I gave my Wii U to my parents around Christmas and they had the error on start up.  I assumed it was an issue with my console and bought a 2nd hand one to replace it.  Now I hear that the issue is commonplace, which is a little frustrating! Still, at least now I have a working one and Nintendo transferred over my account.

I bought Kokopolo 3D as my final purchase on 3DS. I did realise I had some Themes I’d bought for free with Platinum coins that I’d failed to download.  Thankfully Nintendo have extended the ability to use codes for another week, so I’ve been able to get them.

I'm not sure the issue is as commonplace with Wii U's as people see online but it's worrying nevertheless. The biggest worry for me is the lack of any concern about this from Nintendo. So far they have said nothing about the issue. I bought myself a Raspberry Pi Pico last week just in case something happens to my Wii U's in the future.

Did pick up BoxBoy on the 3DS eShop, final purchase i think.  Good prices on the Steamworld titles, would pick them up but already own them on PlayStation.

Won't pick up anything on WiiU, my power cable for the console snapped and i don't think i'll be getting another one anytime soon.

I read recently that a few reports have come out about some people switching on their Wii U's after some extended time only to find the NAND inside has failed or has become corrupted. This could be due to the time left alone or I believe certain chips used in the console.

  5. This is a non story to me. I remember years ago (2008), the press went on and on about Jonathan Ross who went to a Russell Brand show on the BBC and said some silly things. The whole thing was blown up by the press. When the BBC is in the news, I lose interest in the story. It's bread and circuses.

I don't have a TV license and I don't watch TV. If Gary Lineker wants to say something on his own twitter account then that's up to him. If he says something political on MOTD then that is a completely different angle.

    PS - Ashley, enjoy Japan!

  6. In Charlie Brooker's 'How videogames changed the world', he says Twitter is the number 1 game 'Twitter is a massively multiplayer online game in which you choose an interesting avatar and then roll player persona loosely based on your own. Attempting to accrue followers by repeatedly pressing lettered buttons to form interesting sentences'.

I'm not a big fan of social media in general and there have been multiple studies showing the link between increased social media usage and depression, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. Seeking validation from others in that way seems false.

As much as some journalists want to see Elon and Twitter self explode it won't, and after a few months I think things will get back to some level of stability. Twitter is a business and it needs to turn a profit and people need their dopamine hit.

Reviews are coming in. Looks like the general consensus is "more of the same, a little bit better" and that the biggest improvement is the singleplayer, which is longer and much more like the octo expansion.

Got the game yesterday and I agree mostly with 'more of the same, a little better'. I'm sure more things will be added to it but so far it's good. The little things they've added to the game make it feel more polished overall. I still play Splatoon and Splatoon 2 even now so know I will be playing this long into the future.

Well... what do you think? Do you think RE4 is golden, or is it overly praised dog poop?

    Why the polarised question?

Regardless, I remember being a loyal GameCube owner back in the day and I heard about this game in gaming magazines all the time. When it came out and I played it I felt slightly disappointed especially as the PS2 version would be out not long after. It would have been great if some of the earlier ideas from the RE4 prototypes had been put into the game and I felt that the story and game style was quite removed from the old RE stories.

RE4 was the game that needed to come out, it helped revive the series and brought a lot of new fans to the series as a whole. I think it's a great game and I loved the Mercs mini game as well. The best game in the series for me however is Resident Evil (remake) on the Gamecube.

  9. I have my booster tomorrow straight after work. The first vaccine jab was terrible, the second was a lot better and I have no clue about tomorrow. However I expect to be resting and playing Nintendo Switch games in bed on Sunday.

You should have gotten the Asian Release instead of the Japanese, that version has English subs, though that releases at the end of November.

Well I had the choice a few months ago to get the Asian release but I decided against it. The Japanese version has the option of English voices unlike the Wii U Japanese version but there's no option for English text when reading messages on the screen. It's not a deal breaker for me, just it will take me longer to understand the messages on screen. In an ideal world there should have been a limited edition Western physical release.

Edit: Game got patched in November 2021 which allows English text and voice in the game.

  11. You can still add money to the Wii U just through Nintendo's website and not via the console anymore unless it's eShop cards which you have already said. I think if you have a Wii U and Switch on the same Nintendo ID and Nintendo account you could add funds via the Switch and then use that on the Wii U this would save on buying eShop cards. https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/How-to-Merge-Nintendo-Account-and-Nintendo-Network-ID-Funds-1462433.html

If you intend to download a lot of titles it might be worth thinking about getting an external hard drive with a Y cable at some point later on (avoid USB flash drives). The premium model is ok but it does tend to fill up over time if you download a lot.

As for navigating the Wii U menus, it's good idea to turn on the quick start menu on the gamepad. You can get into a game quicker that way provided you have played it recently.

    Enjoy the Wii U!

  12. Zombi U is out on other systems as a digital release (Zombi) but the physical Wii U version isn't that expensive and it's also worth looking at. Rodea The Sky Soldier might be interesting (Wii U and Wii version in one pack). The Wii version is generally viewed as the better game. Finally, Paper Mario: Color Splash.

With regards the Wii U e-shop purchases (credit/debit card) have to be done via Nintendo's website and can no longer be done via the console anymore (since Sept 2019). I have a Japanese Wii U as well but don't have this issue.

  13. I played a lot of Splatoon on the Wii U and it's worth playing especially as not that expensive to pick up. Game and Wario is worth a mention as well although that will cost you more.

Affordable Space Adventures is also worth looking into via the e-shop.

So, N-E, I come to you in search of your Wii U recommendations to add to the wishlist of games I've compiled so far. I'm not going to go nuts and buy everything at once, because I feel like that would bring along a headache I'd rather not deal with, and also because unless they announce that the Wii U eShop is closing in the next year or so, I'm in no real rush.

Edit - The Wii U eshop is not closing down in January 2022, just the method of adding funds to accounts is changing.

  14. This didn't directly affect me when it happened as I was working and using Skype/Zoom at the time. If they had gone down that would have been bad for me. I use facebook just once a week but use Whatsapp more. I spoke to a few people about this and some moved over to other platforms like telegram for that day while others were left in the dark why their account for instagram, whatsapp didn't work. The more connected we are, the more things like this will hit us in the future.

I’d always heard that the second one was a lot milder.

I had my second jab almost two weeks ago and it was a lot milder than the first one. The first one was really bad for me so I was worried the second would be a repeat experience.

On a side note, it's sad to see the muted Tokyo Olympics. I have issues with the current UK government but we have got coming up to 60% of the population vaccinated. Had Japan acted faster the Olympics would more popular than it is now. I wonder how the winter games will do in 2022?
