  1. General Switch Discussion

Agreed. If they hurry up and throw the remaining trio on NSO hopefully we can draw a line under it for good and the countdown for It's Mr. Pants can begin in earnest. I'd jump at the chance to play the latest Killer Instinct and I wouldn't say no to a go on that new Battletoads either. Imho, it'd be incredible if Rare were to pick up where they left off with Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero and everything else. Uncle Tusk columns on the Switch news page. I may shed a tear to witness the course being corrected after 20 years. Rare was a massive loss. It's nice to dream.
  2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Does this mean the game's complete status has been rescinded?
  3. Last ones I got were the 3D series on MacOS of all places. Monkey Island is iconic and I wish there was more of it on the eShop but at least there's a good selection of point-and-click games on there as it is. Want to get the new one though I worry I've been away from MI so long I'll be oblivious to any references to past escapades.
  4. Happy birthday old boy. Make it a great one.

      Ashley

      Thank you!

  5. I'm on a family membership with a bunch of randoms so I'll have to see if those are still on the go or perhaps people have moved on now. I feel like every year I barely look near NSO for eleven months, play some stuff, think I'll keep on it if I renew, barely touch it for eleven months... I was kind of excited to see what was going to appear yesterday evening on the GBA app... language versions. Still haven't opened the Mega Drive app a single time. It'd be a shame to break the streak now.
  6. Subscription renewal will be coming up so it's time for me to get some decent use out of the NSO suite again. Operation Winback has made a suspend pointer of me. The ignominy. Despicable. Degrading. Pity they didn't go the extra mile and build in virtual controller pak compatibility for these scenarios. Even if I'd no problems with it at the time, there's no two ways about it: the GBA sound quality is rough when you hear it through the big screen. But the Mario 3 eReader levels are a great bonus to have so it's swings and roundabouts. Just what I needed. I have The Sacred Stones so might give the Fire Emblem that's on there a look. Surprised there's still not too many games on the GBA app, tbh. Mario 3 and Kuru Kuru Kururin were about the only things I've had a go on on there, but I'm glad of the drip feed at the same time since it means a backlog hasn't amassed on the sly.

Coincidence is cancelled. Feb Directs are unheard of. These rumblings the Switch 2 is built of MS Surface tech about to be confirmed.
  8. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of DANA

I put in a session and finished this. Thought I was content with it being a quaint little story about castaways with nods to the greater world and series (presumably) of Ys. Thought I was happy for it not to go places. Thought it evoked a wonderful sense of adventure as it was. Thought this game I started during the game trial and was wrapping up all this time later would have no business in my GotY 2024 reckoning. I thought wrong. This will take some topping. Elation, confusion, relief and more shades in between; my emotions ran the gamut during that finale. What. A. Game. And the credits were so short! Well done those people. Bravo. Did everything pre-final boss except a pair of chests (no map icons for them that I could see), missed two enemies and several fish. Oh and I failed one side quest during the game trial because I didn't know I was about to hit the point when it expired. Didn't make that mistake again! And one pesky check box was unticked with "???". Maxed out the weapons, maxed out the village defences, maxed out relationships (bar maybe one if it depended on that side quest), explored all areas 100%, did all the hunts and raids. The topnotch gameplay made it a breezy ~65 hours. A pleasure to play. Just been checking online and it seems the stuff that opens up is for challenge purposes. If I hear different and there's more story, I'll be on it quicksmart, otherwise it's time to let this one rest, reflect on the journey it's taken me on, and try to resist slotting Ys IX straight in.
  9. Thought it was just the swamp is dogged () with slowdown. Granted, the last time I played this remake was 18 months ago so I'll have to try to go over it with a fine tooth comb this summer but I already know it's a long, long way from showing any semblance of falling apart at the seams. So when you say it's "a bit of a mess from a technical POV", "a bit" is doing a lot of work, imo. I suppose observations such as "pretty noticeably the jankiest Nintendo first-party game" shows the high bar they've set? Like, if you get too close to a hole you'll start to slip in. If you try to land on the sliver of ground between two holes, you won't have any footing and you'll slip in. Is this jank, poor technical performance or just how the game works? I always thought it was the latter. Blog the rest of your playthrough. If you don't know the game, you're likely going to get stuck at one point and by the end you'll be a weeping, quivering wreck. Traitor!
  10. It hits a bottleneck on what, six out of 256 island screens...? Disappointing, yes. Should they have optimised it before launch or after with an update? Yes. Does it bring the game down? I'd venture it doesn't.
  11. Football Season 2023/24

You could see from the start that Trent's return put them off kilter at the back. It was all too casual.
  12. They were just making sure there was no pre-emptive confusion with Mr C. Fairly certain MRC doesn't fall anywhere on my bought, borrowed, rented scale. Looking forward to what you/ N64 mag says about the likes of GT 64, the F1s (let's see that again!), the Top Gears. Who knows, they might not be so hot nowadays but I definitely had varying degrees of enjoyment from them. The risk/reward of boosting in Top Gear Overdrive was a refreshing twist. Goemon was such a gem. Anyone watch J:Drive on Live & Kicking? Of course we'd no idea how to pronounce it but it still stuck out when he called it "joo-mon".
  13. That is not an inkling in your inventory. It's hardly intended for you to lodge Bow-Wow in the doorway to a phone booth and go to the next screen, but if you do, he'll catch up. Simples. I got chills, they're multiplying.
  14. Netflix

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. May indeed check it out. Just watched the trailer and the part with the secrets reminded me of Danganronpa.
  15. Don't know what I've played between War Gods or Dark Rift. Can't tell the difference between them! Just know I rented one or both. Bio FREAKS and Fighters Destiny too. None proved worth a buy but they were good for some weekend 2-player fun. I was happy to stick with KI Gold and borrow things like MK Trilogy and MK 4 until Smash Bros came along and immediately cemented itself as the go-to fighting game as the N64 entered its twilight.
  16. N-E Mario Kart 8 DX Get Together

Some good racing last night. I like it when the CPU is added to fill things out but it certainly ups the lightning rate. Great to see the winter version of the AC track crop up again—is it weighted in favour of the current season?
  17. Nothing special, no. Controlled a bit unconventional and levels could be maze-like with the block layout—not exactly left to right romps. Had some decent bosses from what I remember. Had it's charm though. I was subscribed to NMS/NOM/ONM and bought the occasional N64 mag or read friends' if we got a free period. I'll take that 82% at face value rather than dig the issue out of a box. I would still have said they scored it lower but once you got to 89% and under you were into murky territory by their metric. I think they scored Yoshi's Story in the 80s which was basically unheard of for a Nintendo game. No need to bring the Greystation or Sadturn into this. Very much was. They wanted the baby thrown out with the bathwater. NMS slagged off Symphony of the Night and bigged up Castlevania 64 then when the games came out and you found out which was better... you had to wonder.
  18. You learn something every day—for some reason I believed this was a Konami game. Surprising review score as I remember magazines turning their noses up at Mischief Makers because they'd become polygon snobs. It's not the easiest to get into, but once you get the hang of it it's solid enough.
  19. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

    Pink tail in FF IV.
  20. N-E Mario Kart 8 DX Get Together

It's supposed to be a theme night though.
  21. I've only been on a few times since the update but no sign of any secret tracks for me either.
  22. The Traitors

Re: Andrew, it was sort of like with the guy last year, where I was willing him to just play it cool. The editing makes them look so twitchy and out of their depth. Even knowing, I still don't see it with Diane and Ross! Yeah it was quality. Couldn't believe the bald-faced lying of it since they normally stitch each other up more subtly. Top stuff. All the best with it! Make sure to practise your cue action because those clips at the snooker table are dire. Nothing to do with the colour or creed of his barnet. Just wasn't a fan of how he waltzed in and assumed control of proceedings from the outset. But maybe if you're in there you would be naturally drawn to that sort of focal point in the group. Like moths to a big obnoxious ginger flame. Unreal when that came out around the breakfast table. The contestants crumbling like that is what makes it. When the ratings dip maybe they'll try to shoehorn in some Big Brother style romance. Shields to spend the night together in Claudia's cabin, protection as standard.
  23. General Switch Discussion

Third parties have it too good on Switch as it is. They rock in with lesser ports of their games from generations ago, mark up the price, and laugh all the way to the bank. Assuming the Switch successor is still behind the other two in terms of power, third parties will do the same all over again.
  24. General Switch Discussion

GameCube controller trademarks... LCD screens... Switch 2 will be half a Wii with a screen slapped on. Tbh, specs in general don't excite me like they would have generations ago. They'll put together something cost-effective that they can keep making sparkly first-party games for. That's the long and short of it. Only thing I will specifically want to seek out info on is joy-con drift because that's been unacceptable. Drift spoiled some really good games for me before I found out it's a widespread problem and got extra controllers. To your question, LCD or OLED is neither here nor there for me because pretty much the only time my Switch isn't gathering dust in the dock is when I pick it up to change the cart. (Would be nice if they make it so the cart goes in facing away from the screen again.) I may've got an OLED if it actually added something like the DSi did, but since it's just a screen I don't use there's been no need to give it any consideration. If they bring back glassesless 3D then I'll be a hybrid convert. Wasn't aware of this. Almost bought Pikmin 4 the other week but will factor this into my thinking. Come on, man. Keep it cranked!
