  1. I don't get a lot of mileage out of Mario Party. Though from the showcase it looked like it could offer some frantic fun. Not sure how to best describe Fantasy Life. It's an action sort of RPG where jobs/classes are called lives. I'd a good time with the one on 3DS which is why I'm up for this one by default even if I'm not convinced about decorating another island after Animal Crossing. Cautiously optimistic.
  2. Grounded & Pentinent : first time seeing these. First impression was a grimace. If this is what other consoles have maybe they should keep them. But I'll keep an open mind and do some homework on them over time. Ender Magnolia: Not my cup of tea but looks good nonetheless. Arranger: Looks cool! Drew a nod from me when he said "handcrafted dungeons." Unicorn Overlord: Forgot about this because, seeing it again, it looks forgettable to me. Will need to have a look at the demo. MH Stories: Liked the demo on 3DS. Not especially fond of 3DS games coming after they fomo'd us with the eShop closure. But that's business. Should've said, "Now fully voiced and in... TWO D." Epic Mickey: Enjoyed on the Wii despite it's shortcomings. Annoyed at myself for being open to picking it again. SMT V Vengeance: A long time coming. Would like to have the willpower to skip it. Battlefront: had a few 2-player sessions on this/these on Playstation 2. Unsatisfying gameplay. South Park: Snow Day: looks cool. Sword Art Online: Looks nice. I'm in no way well-versed in these. Gundam Breaker 4: yep, another one that looks cool. Monkey Bollocks: just the kind of thing I wanted from the showcase—games for the fans, not for me. Then my eyes lit up at the 20-player clips. World of Goo 2: good to see it live on. Fantasy Life: good to see it pop up. Another Crab's Treasure: looks cool. Penny's Big Breakaway: looks iffy. No doubt decent. Suika update: yes! Get it back on game trial. Suika 99 coming next. Pepper Grinder: still looking cool. Pocket Card Jockey: enjoyed it on 3DS. Snufkin: everyone loves the moomins! Tales of Kenzaru: would like to know more. Demon Slayer Sweep the Board: curious what this entails. Kingdom Come Deliverance: looks all right. Contra: classic. Rare NSO: I felt a twinge of emotion at the KI music. Really nice that they added these without the drip feed. For a split second, I thought borders were coming with the way the crossfade was done. Endless Ocean: liked it well enough on Wii. Need to learn what this one offers exactly because some group dives could be fun. Overall, just a handful of games I'd write-off. The polar opposite of what I wanted. "In this presentation we'll be focusing on Nintendo Switch games launching in the first half of 2024." Then just say coming this spring for those undated 2024 games, eh? Relieved Fantasy Life is October. Don't need it this side of summer. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
  3. My Nintendo ( Club Nintendo Successor )

    Standing by for Killer Cuts.
  4. Damn. I need Switch 2... in 2027 on the condition nothing else comes out except what's officially known. Perhaps even JFG if we behave ourselves.
  5. Harsh. So it's permadeath with items too. Better use em or lose em. I hadn't taken note of who had what but noticed Lyn came back with a recharged Mani Katti which has been very nice. Impressive how you boys remember these games in so much detail. I could only talk about the entries I've played in the broadest of strokes. Yep, the game actually told me that. I just want him to survive every chapter to see what levelling him yields (I've my fingers crossed he will become a shop). I said I left insufficient cover for the tent, but it'd be more accurate to say I left it wide open. When they came in the side door to attack the tent, I was only able to get the peggy knight back in time and she got sent to the big Fire Emblem in the sky for her heroic efforts. Canas and Raven were only one square out of range from taking some heat off her. Like I said, the map seemed done and I was more concerned with trying to corner those slippery thieves lest they flee. Schoolboy error. You and @Ike will be pleased to hear that in a previous chapter, I was able to position four units around a thief until I got mine there to steal some gear back. Then I skewered the scoundrel. Felt good. Of course I'll check that. Useful tip as I supposed Matthew would be the key character there. For some reason, I thought maxing a character to lvl 20 made for automatic promotion, whereas the items are if you're in a rush to promote prematurely. But I got Lyn there and nothing happened. So now I'm handicapped if I want to make sure she doesn't sap exp away from the other weaklings. When I retry that chapter I'm just going to load her up with keys and she can do double duty as a door and chest opener.
  6. Switch eShop Thread

Oh no. Since it's out now, I've been able to find this on the website: *The main game and gallery screen (*Gallery) are in Japanese version. *Other menu screens and ""How to play"" screens are in English. Sounds like English doesn't extend to everything. A bit of a letdown but why let something like that stop us! Sure it'd skip our region entirely if they didn't think we're up to the task.
  7. For a closing megaton: now partnering with Epic for Nintendo Lego in Lego Fortnite. If the Internet is down I will know this has come to pass. I wouldn't mind an update on Mina the Hollower but that's probably Nindie and I'm getting by all right with it not having a release date. Nor would I put it past Capcom to do a remake of Streetfighter 2010 (NES) that looks like a flash game and is graciously Nintendo exclusive because it is low-effort dross.
  8. Pokémon Presents 27/02/2024 @ 14:00 GMT

The countdown is on. I recommend Rilakkuma. They could do something like a Pokémon Pikmin game—the names have always been close enough. Could be good in the unlikely event time and care was put into it. A game that's complete in its own right and they can cross-promote between the phone apps for monetisation. Really the only thing I expect from this Presents is something that gets my attention in Unite then when I try to unlock it, it takes too much time to do for free and that's me off that game for another year until it happens again.
  9. Woud like to see: Metal Slug Tactics. Shiren on the reel! Suikoden slotted in. Eiyuuden too. SaGa Emerald Beyond shown to the masses. Otogi Katsugeki Mameda no Bakeru: Oracle Saitarou no Sainan!! comes west, feels good. Jack Black singing a Bowser cartoon into existence. These are not my demands because I couldn't give much of a fig what's shown—I'm already well stocked for games so I'm just content the release calendar will be ticking over. And since third parties have brought the goods on Switch where possible, a Partner Direct is as welcome as anything. Whatever is in it, I'm expecting a good showing (by my assessment, anyway) and anything I want to get from it will be an annoying bonus. Personally, the scheduling isn't ideal, but when is it ever for these? Will go dark and enjoy it after the fact. This would be such a snub to the rabbids. I could see it happening with Nintendo's new movie making partners.
  10. Pokémon Presents 27/02/2024 @ 14:00 GMT

Something new and good. Pokémon Concierge: The Game would at least be a start.
  11. I didn't see this in my inventory. Would any of them have lost it when they leave you for those few chapters? Every now and again it seems like someone's posting about Fire Emblem. This time it's my turn. Haha, yes there's been some good vocab on show. On that pirate level, I sent two up around to clear out the top and the rest through the middle. What was catching me out was it seemed to be the first time the enemies had some brains about them because they would gang up on one of my units. Re: Dart, none of my troops would strike up a conversation with him so since he was peaceful I just left him. Otherwise cleared the rest out—I wasn't moving on without all that exp. Haven't been going out of my way to pair people up on the battlefield but I still hoped supports would come up naturally. Won't worry about them! Last left it at a chapter I need to restart. I was all but done with it (was just trying to corner a pair of enemy thieves that were giving me the run around, the one with a name had me particularly curious) and left insufficient cover for Merlinus' tent. You've definitely got the chops for it. It's lengthy enough so a good way to get some value from NSO.
  12. General Switch Discussion

Think Nintendogs but from our partners previously responsible for Seaman. That's before you get to all the run-of-the-mill possibilities like still-to-be-ported GameCube games.
  13. General Switch Discussion

At the start of the month, before this talk of a partner direct (say it ain't so) and Switch 2 in 2025 (why do Nintendo hate us), I quickly brainstormed what could come to pass in this year's Feb Direct for a potential hopes and predictions thread.* nintendolphins is on the list. I also surmised from my unimaginative ideas for Switch in 2024, that it can be a jampacked year if they want so successor in 2025—or later—stands to reason... from my point of view and reading of the situation anyway. Nintendo: "Please continue to enjoy buying additional Nintendo Switch Family of Systems for your relatives." * Less than a mere three weeks ago I thought it would make for some fun chat. Now I'm fed up with the sight of speculation and self-styled Internet experts' "insight" and demands. Urgh.
  14. Mario vs. Donkey Kong (16th February 2024)

Play whatever else you have in the meantime (Baiton Kaitos Origins when?) and see if this makes it onto the GBA NSO.
  15. Ring Fit Adventure

Don't know about that since I don't have those games. I was just referring to how RingFit was said to be built off the BotW engine. The battle music reminds me of Miitopia and I do enjoy the music side mode. Perhaps you can try everything out in custom mode to see what you think. Not sure if you have to unlock things in adventure for it first.
  16. Swearing like pirates are they! A winner is you.
  17. Got another ??? track. This time Death Wind x White Lands—took a snap in the relative safety of the home straight. It was just the Death Wind I loop with an extra bend squeezed in and two sections of White Lands ramps with magnets underneath plus a jump round the corner from the pit lane. Nice mash-up of the two music tracks too.
  18. General Switch Discussion

Did a practice match in FC24. It gave me four objectives like complete a certain number of shots and passes. Wee buns. Except the thing was I registered 0/15 sprints. It tells you the buttons on screen but nothing I did counted as a sprint. Even after I went in and checked the buttons, changed to alternative style and manually swapped around the function of the shoulder buttons: zero sprints. Weird one. Not a very satisfying game at first blush but I reckon with time I could get used to how it wants the beautiful game to be played. At full time it said I should play on world class difficulty. Yeah, right.
  19. Ring Fit Adventure

I was back on RingFit recently for a bit of variation in the old regime. Also left myself open when I should have held the ab guard for two attacks. I've had it on max difficulty level since the beginning and, for a game with a resistance ring, imo it gives you a decent enough going over if you put moves in your loadout that you find difficult. A fun alternative on a day you might not feel like doing anything else. EDIT: Oh and, it's the best thing to come from Breath of the Wild.
  20. I had such a top, top time with Duke 64. Loved it, and in some ways preferred it to GoldenEye! A few other differences to Duke 3D off the top of my head are mirrors are gone in the N64 version, there are different weapons (dum dums and explosive shotgun shells ftw), most levels were tweaked in some way or another and a few were Dukematch-only. The final boss is rendered in full 3D! Cutscenes were cut back to still images. And of course steroids became vitamin x. You also rescue the babes rather than kill them. I spent a ton of time on Duke 64 in solo and with friends. Dukematches had Dukebots (GoldenEye didn't have Bondbots) and I just had a great time exploring levels in single-player and co-op—particularly loved the interconnectivity via air vents and hunting out vantage points and hiding spots for Dukematches. Take the first level, you can see a shop on the CCTV and it took me yonks of exploring to finally find the teleporter to get there. Worth every minute of exploration. Can't say I don't like the silence of it on the N64. You feel isolated and it made it all the more sinister when something happened. Back then when Duke Nukem 4ever seemed to be around the corner, my imagination was in overdrive with the possibilities. What if you could phone people or just stupid hotlines? Play proper games of pool and pinball. Imagine if you could jetpack between the streets and space stations. Basically, a lot of open-world faff I wouldn't entertain nowadays. Probably the worst thing I can say about Duke 64 is it was a memory pak game. Otherwise, easily one of my favourite N64 titles. Back then I played a good bit on Duke 3D as well (online death matches on dial-up!) and I think both versions are excellent. Duke Nukem 3D's also on the eShop. Though I wasn't able to get into it the same with the Pro Controller, it remains a great package. Some day I'm going to try to reconfigure the Switch controls for the N64 controller. Got a war chest thanks to supporters like yourself!
  21. No sooner have I typed this than...
  22. Don't see you refuting it.
  23. In the chapters he featured in, once I saw he's a powerhouse I kept him in and around the group in case cover or rescue was needed. On a few occasions, he OHKO'd enemies who thought they'd chance their arm against him. Used him on one or two end-of-chapter bosses to ensure a safe exit instead of rolling the dice with anyone weaker. The Marcus + Hector combo reminds me of tag-teaming PoR with Ike and Titania. The guy Oswin is pretty handy when he's close enough to do anything, too. Okay, I'll sub in Canas for a few chapters. Giving Raven a run out too but need to be mindful to not let it detract from funnelling some exp Eliwood's way. I've enjoyed incinerating enemies with Erk but I just don't like the kid. Never liked or trusted Soren either. Something about these Fire Emblem mages doesn't jive with me. I've traded up to the horseback troubadour girl as healer now. I'd like a badass pegasus knight because flimsy Florina's a waste of a spot. And if I'm to have a thief, I want that redhead spy Leila to join our ranks. Yeah, that's my understanding of supports. I'm not feeling disadvantaged without them but I'd like to get the ball rolling with them since I know they're a part of what makes Fire Emblem unique. Good to know—glad I aborted on those arena attempts. Here's how I'm leaning: Preferred: Hector (lord) Lyn (lord) Eliwood (lord) Oswin (knight) Rebecca (archer) Lowen (cavalier) Priscilla (troubadour) Raven (mercenary) Marcus (paladin) Kent (cavalier) To try: Canas (shaman) Question marks over Florina (pegasus knight), Lucius (monk) Useful but lost their place: Dorcas (fighter), Bartre (fighter), Will (archer) Don't like his stance: Guy (myrmidon) Don't like: Serra (cleric), Sain (tool), Erk (mage), Matthew (thief) Let me assemble a squad of battle-hardened 20+ year-olds.
  24. Mario vs. Donkey Kong (16th February 2024)

Looks like Argos price-matched Curry's, then. And you fell for it. I did say this is a game you can cruise through on autopilot! I skipped the sequels because, between the likes of Krusty's Fun House and Lemmings, I felt I was covered. And it bugged me they appeared to be phoning it in with the minis rather than going for more of a direct DK94 follow-up. There was and is room for both. Nice NSO icons at least.
  25. The old five-finger discount.
