  1. Nintendo Switch Presentation 13th Jan 2017

You don't need to learn Japanese, just nod your head.
  2. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

The OS's on these consoles use hhalf their RAM, right? If Nintendo can develop a super slim OS requiring very little RAM, they could get to a comparable level. Do people still use GAME? The only time i'll entertain the idea of buying from them is when I can get a good deal on a trade in. That's all their good for (and even that's debateable, as it's not unheard of for the manager at the Shhrewsbury store to refuse to pricematch because he won't be able to sell it at a profit). I'll probably get my Switches from Nintendo UK Official Store - I think that's the only place to offer the two year warranty.
  3. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

Thius has reminded me of the age-old console demand... Will it make toast? Theres's a decent chance with this one!!!

This will not come free to them. They will also need to consider the actual cost of including a screen with their next machines; they'll know they have an upper limit on cost (PS3 taught them that...) so they'll have to absorb the cost themselves which would likely mean they would need to reduce the cost of the components and therefore power. Maybe it will happen but i'm not sure their consumer base would stomach knowing a second screen at the cost of raw horsepower. I can see both Sony and Microsoft maximising their phones as a portable console before they directly copy Nintendo.

Miiverse is so insular; they really need to leverage established social networks. OK, so this weeks video is only a preview but it's one that's aimed squarely at an older audience; it's likely they'll want to move away from their wierd terminology (sure, fans loveit, but the wider audience seems not to). I'm expecting to see an icon for Play Feed, rather than Miiverse. Maybe some of the concepts will carry across but i'd be very surprised if Miiverse returns.
  6. Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

  7. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

Yay for 1990s wires trailing across the living room floor. #WireRage
  8. Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

We're mission 4 but come join us. I'll add you now.
  9. Metroid Prime: Federation Force (3DS)

@dazzybee and I are looking for two gimps for online play at 10pm. Anyone fancy it?
  10. Super Mario Run (iOS/Android)

They're really not. They may be questioning this ONE controvertial release but no one is thinking that development of mobile games is to blame - to even try to and suggest this one release as a serious problem for Nintendo is, quite simply, ill-thoughtout. I doubt many are displeased with this. The last thing I thought when I saw this was "why are they using internal resources to develop this and not an NX game". I thought, that's neat enough. The team on this will be a fraction of the size of most Nintendo games, even their smallest games will probably have more staff on board. To think this has any impact on NX or NX games is laughable really. Come on, Nintendo has one of the best reputations in the market. Despite dwindling/flopping hardware Nintendo remains a highly respected entity in the gaming market. I think most peple call out Wii U as an error but then move on to discuss the excellent library Nintendo has delivered - near singlehandedly. Sure, Nintendo need to get the messages right but to question their reputation because of Wii U is, at best, a simplistic assessment. As for an announcement, why are you so stressed about it? Don't take it to heart, it's not personal- they have their reasons for all the secrecy but I am sure pissing Hogge off is way down at the bottom of the list. All this hype and speculation is fun; just enjoy it (we won't get it for another 5 years).
  11. Super Mario Run (iOS/Android)

This is good, right? It's not designed for us, it's designed for those Wii deserters, those 25m who played New Super Mario Bros. Wii but didn't return for the Wii U version. That's why the visuals are rooted in the New series; it's familiar and approachable to them and somewhat plays on their nostalgia in the same way Nintendo can pull me in with sprites and 8-bit chip tunes. Even the announcement at an Apple event was pretty shrewd, Apple events get big viewership and so jumping on that bandwagon highlights Mario in a big way - and possibly right before the NX reveal? I highly doubt that a Direct or Google event would generate the buzz surrounding Mario Run at the moment. All sounds good to me. As an Android fan, it's a bit irksome i'd like to play it at the same time as iOS owners but hey, like I say, it's not really for me. I guess, at least for me, the big takeaway seems how much they've put into the social stuff - lets see them do this - and more - for NX.
  12. Splatoon

We will be on at 0910 (enough time to make teas).
  13. Splatoon

@dazzybee and I are about to jump back into Splatoon - anyone interested in joining us?

The dock could boost wirelessly anyway, i think? It all comes down to the bandwdth Nintendo has acheived by developing it's current Wii U tech. You'd certainly need speed and bandwidth to do this... But i'm hopeful they've worked out a way. You could argue that if everyone is in the same room with their own NX's, is there any point to having them connect to the dock. But there are some games where you'd want that single single big display, like Smash.
  15. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

I like how you're all assuming they'll add in a bridge module.. This dock will be wireless, surely. It makes no sense to be putting in additional units, it'll complicate things, add on costs to the consumer. Nintendo will have been working on increasing it's bandwidth with Wii U streaming tech. By using a wireless dock between controller and dock it'll open up the possibility of touch, possibly even asymetric gameplay, maps etc.
  16. Yesteryeargames has passed away

Awful news. I remember visiting his villages in Animal Crossing across several generations, truly they were incredible creations - a dedicated gamer for sure. Heart goes out to his family and close freinds. Celeste will be keeping watch for him.
  17. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

In respect of 3DS I always felt the 3D was far more impressive than the hgher resolution of PSV. There was a rumour a while back that NX would be an evolution of Wii U tech - surely we're not physically connecting to this dock - it'll be wireless, right?
  18. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

I've forgotten what a traditional Nintendo console is! I'm not sure it's important where games will be targetted. If we ask ourselves if there ever was wide gulf between portable and handheld games design, do we really come to the conclusion that there is? Remember all those SNES ports on GBA, or core titles like Doom, Resident Evil, The World Ends With You, Monster Hunter 4 appearing on handhelds? Heck, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy are on mobile! If there was/is such a difference between handheld and home gaming, it's a difference that is dictated by technology; handheld technology just was not on par with in-situ technology, that's where the gulf existed. Handheld technology was always a generation or two behind. That has changed in the last few years, and Nintendo are - allegedly - proposing a system that recognises that handheld tech has (nearly) caught up. Sure, I think certain concessions may have been made to, ahem, portable-ise a core game (added save points and suspend play, for example)... But would these techniques deminish the equivelent title on a home console? I don't think they would.
  19. Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

No lies, I'm scepticle but curious to see some formal announcement. Ultimately, at least for me, it's down to the games so the form factor is not that important; I think it looks decent enough for a handheld, streaming the content to the TV would be neat too (and I suspect that's how i'll play the grander games). It's perhaps not really what I wanted, it's so frustrating not seeing Mario, Zelda and Samus on top tier hardware, but I think those who were expecting Neo-level hardware were always going to be disappointed. The detachable controllers also seem pretty neat, I can see this being used as in car entertainment for nippers (and prats in Teslas). I've some major reservations though; streaming 720p or 1080p at 60fps with multichannel audio is going to be a challenge for them. That's a lot of bandwidth - has their streaming tech progressed enough? I really, really don't want this to comprimise the big screen-experience and fear this may happen. Maybe the dock relates to the patent of a Supplemental Computing Device, offloading processing from the main hardware? And, again, I worry about their services and infastructure. Hopefully, they'll take this opportunity to catch up - with Steam, iOS, Android, Xbox and PS4.... But the hardware choice seems to demonstrate that they retain that insular perspective which has not served them well in the past (at least when it comes to services). Please bring us Family Sharing Nintendo As a side note, as frustrating as Nintendo has been for keeping NX such as guarded secret, it is their call and I think it's a big shame that Eurogamer ran with the article in the way it did. Companies have the right to set their own agenda and that includes product announcements; of course I'm sure that Eurogamer would claim the public interest was there to justify their decision to publish (proved by the fact I read the article, I suppose..) but I feel it's ultimetely beefing up their journalistic reputations at Nintendo's expense.

I think there are more effective ways than this to keep people engaged with your Newsletters, for example, exclusive discounts/points when actually reading them, rather than just being signed up for them and not necessarily reading them.
