Well frankly he’s both racist and xenophobic. And he sadly represents a large subset of the US population. It’s a “we got ours, fuck the rest” mindset, it’s also a mindset that the US is the greatest country in the world. Freedom this freedom that, unless you disagree with my idea of freedom, then I just hope you die. Locked in a political civil war where we can’t even have a reasonable discussion.

Frankly I kind of hate this place and it’s jingoist bullshit. I work with, hell am related to the types of idiots that voted trump and think he’s the bees knees making America great again. Their ideal of whats great is skewed though, they have this image of Cold War America. Economically viable, anyone can get a job at a real wage and buy two cars and a house. I don’t think we can ever reach that ideal again. Not with the way the world works.

I feel like I’m ranting in a non-conducive manner. So I’ll stop there.

Pretty off topic, but I have a question. Was America ever really like that? Was it ever actually the land of opportunity, or has there always been a massive inequality of opportunities?

More on topic, I got a cool Nintendo festive jumper and a Pokemon Ash hat.

I think what you got was major brownie points.

It's more a general feeling I get about men becoming the sex that is not allowed to be sexual.  There is no real evidence that men even harass more than women; just that women are reporting it.  What man can say women have never grabbed his buttocks or said sexual things to him?  You get people on TV saying this is a problem with men or male sexuality, but it's not - it's a problem with those who abuse power.

That right there is evidence, it might not be conclusive evidence, but it's still evidence.

Also the numerous studies that show how many women say they've been sexually assaulted compared to men.

There is an issue with men not feeling safe or comfortable reporting it, for fear that they will be ridiculed or not taken seriously, but that's a separate issue and not one that I think you're raising.

  4. I assume this is more of a power move, show that they're serious and not going to just lie down, than a realistic declaration of independence?

What about the people who don't want to leave, what will they do?

Same thing as with Brexit, get screwed over.

Now in Catalonia we have our government, the Spanish government and the EU. I don't want the middle one.

If leaving Spain meant you couldn't join the EU (and under the current system, assuming Spain would vote against your entry, it's likely you couldn't) would you still want independence?

I read some English media, but I would like to know what's your view on all this, if anyone is willing to discuss it.

A lot of the media (which started around the referendum on the 1st) was quite right wing biased (as a lot of UK media has been these days). They presented the police brutality as trying to control the police, as opposed to militia enforcement. This sums up my feelings on the coverage: http://anotherangryvoice.blogspot.co.uk/2017/10/if-this-was-happening-in-venezuela-or.html

Not having any knowledge or involvement of the culture, it's hard to comment on the move for independence itself. However as an outside it does seem that Spain are using their powers as a dictatorship to quell any sort of movement, rather than being diplomatic; bringing in police to physically beat voters, and now (potentially) instigating absolute rule. What I find most strange is how the EU and other nations seemed to have remained largely silent on this.

I'm usually for larger unionisation with decentralisation of certain powers as a general rule, so would generally expect the best outcome to be for Catalonia to remain part of Spain with increased autonomy (again, speaking generally about independence movements as I'm not in any position to understand the psyche of Catalonia). However considering how Madrid has handled the situation I can certainly see why Catalonia would want to be separate from that.

@The Cape you've given some excellent background information, but may I ask your opinions? Are you Catalan? (I think I can infer from your posts but wanted to check rather than assume.)

I had absolutely no problem with nationwide, i think like many banks / b.societies it just depends on the branch.  Mine couldn't help me enough!

Yeah that's the trouble (with large chains). Completely different experience depending on whether the individual you're dealing with is a dick/incompetent or not.

I'm going to assume the answer is no but I'll ask anyway. Do we know if there is a way to keep people who you have on your ignore list ignored on the right hand post section?

I'd tell you how to do it, but unfortunately I don't think you'd be able to see my post.

You can trust me, you did not deceive me by my nationality, whatever that means :D

You sure he didn't deceive you by your nationality? How do you know you're actually German? Do you remember being born in Germany? Are you sure Nolan didn't take you as a baby from your mother country, and transplant you to Germany, therefore deceiving you by your nationality?

Sounds like you may have been deceived to me.

Yeah, we tried that. We tried it all. In the end we gave in and gave him half and half on the bottle and the breast. So he now gets three bottles a day to fulfill about half of his need and then the breast in between to give him the rest. This seems to work fine though he wasn't quite happy with the breast the first couple of days because it didn't feed him fast enough. Now he's gaining weight, though, and fast. He is now 4.5 kg and thus gained 270 g in one week. That's quite impressive. But aside from the weight, he's doing really well and seems quite happy so that's nice. :)

He's scheduled for his surgery on October 24th.

    Glad he's improving.

I read a story a few weeks ago about a baby who wasn't getting enough nutrients from the breast so needed a bottle as well. Breast is beast but if supplementing with a bottle works better then that's what's needed.

I wouldn't see it as you "gave in" rather you tried everything and ultimately did what was best for your baby.
