  1. Would You Say You've Had A Good Life? (So Far....)

In the ever immortal lyrics from that song by Ronan Keating,' Life is a rollercoaster.' That's the best way to think of my life. Loads of ups. Loads of downs. A good mix of both with perhaps more downers than I'd have liked but hey-ho, that's how life goes. There have been loads of missed opportunities (some I continually think about and wish I hadn't missed out on) but life is a one way street and there's no going back (trust me, I've tried and it really doesn't work). So as I say to myself, forget about the past as it's gone and look to the future. So, yeh I'd would say I've had a good life. It could have been much worse (and nearly was. Thank you high school friends, pricks!) and I'm thankful for what I've had and been given.
  2. Who Would You Like To Meet?

@ MBAM! - ah... thank you for mentioning Dick Van Dyke. I completely forgot about him (how in the hell could I do that? I watch him on tv everyday). So I'd add Dick Van Dyke to my list of people I'd like to meet. He's a legend.
  3. How was your day?

It's been a quiet day for me. Been playing all sorts from Pulseman and Mickey Mania on the megadrive to Ninja Spirit on the PC Engine. Apart from that, I've been watching a bit of South Park and getting reacquainted with a certain Willie Nelson's music. Just releaxing before the rush of University starts next week.
  4. How was your day?

Yeh you can use handhelds on planes no problems. The only problems that may occur are at customs but your unlikely to get stopped. I went through customs twice (to and coming back from Portugal) with a backpack full of electrical goods (2 DSs, a PSP, 1 MP3 player, 1 MP4 player) and nothing happened. Was surprised at that as I seem to always get stopped at customs (a thumb tack stuck in the bottom of one of my shoes caused chaos in Florida. I thought that the security officer was going to have to conduct a cavity search as we couldn't find out why the metal detector was going off when I was going through it).
  5. The University Thread 08/09

I got nothing other than a piece of paper telling me how much my fees would be. No information on how to give the University the money or when I've to give them it. And I still don't know whether I'm being funded or not because SAAS finally sent me a letter saying,' We don't have enough information so fill in this form for us before we can process your application.' The fact that the form required me to fill in information about my schooling past and previous education beyond school was strange seeing as they should have it on my application. And if not, it's definitely available on previous applications. Lazy pricks. Took them 3 weeks to send me that and I'll probably have to wait even longer to find out whether or not I'm funded. Anyways, I sorted out my student account. Went with NatWest for the free student rail card. Just waiting on the papers arriving to finalise it. Got a nice overdraft of £1,250 which isn't bad although my mother said straight away,' You're not to use it!' Could have a very nice night out with the money.
  6. We're all going to die....

Best thing to come out of this so far... apparently someone sent CERN a small parcel containing a crowbar, a note for it's eventual wielder and a letter to the guys at CERN saying something similar to 'Get this to Gordon Freeman. He'll know what to do.' Not sure if it's true or not but wouldn't it be great if someone had done that, you know, just in case. "Yes, here's a crowbar. Give it to Gordon. If anything goes wrong, he'll sort it." :P
  7. How was your day?

Got my laptop this evening. All sorted. Except I need to update everything on it already (flash player was outdated and wouldn't run). Guess that's been the upside to today. Still pissed about my 360 though. But I guess life is too short to stay in a foul mood over something as trivial as the breaking down of a console. I'm sure I'll have forgotten about it by tomorrow. Have to get back out in the mornings anyway and start running again. With my knee being sore over the last few days, I'v just stayed in and played on the 360 but now it's better I can start exercising again.
  8. The University Thread 08/09

The main reason I'm not going to any Fresher's stuff is that I'm not living in the vicinity of the campus and I can guarantee that the last train home will be at 10pm (who leaves a party/bar/club at 10pm?). I'm travelling on the train every morning and evening back and forth. And I'm not really into the whole club/dancing thing. from the list of stuff on at my Fresher's Week, there are a few shows, but I don't really wanna go see them, and the rest is all club stuff. I'm not against the whole drinking thing but I just don't like the club scene. Been to many clubs and I've hated each time I've been to one because of the music and the atmosphere (probably doesn't help that my friends abandon me with all of their coats and I can't do anything). I might change my mind once I've started (wouldn't mind going to the Ian Watkins DJ set but then again, I'm not fussed).
  9. How was your day?

Not a very happy chappy today. My 360 kicked the bucket and is gonna cost me £50.99 to get it repaired. And it's raining so I can't go out. So not a fantastic day.
  10. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Thanks Stefkov. Found out a little more about the problem. Tried everything to get it working (disconnecting all cables and hard drive and then reconnecting the cables to see if it's the hard drive. But it's not which I'm glad because there's loads of DLC on there and I'd be pretty pissed if it was corrupted). Anyways, it'll cost me £50.99 to get my console repaired as it's outside of its warranty by four months and I'm only getting one red light and not 3. Bloody ridiculous. It shouldn't be breaking four months outside of its warranty. Someone should really have taken Microsoft to court over the 360 failures. I'm tempted to do it. A small claim against them as no electronic product should fail 4 months after its warranty.
  11. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

Anyone have any idea what an E 74 is in relation to a single red light on the 360? I knew I'd be getting a red light at some point and just got it. Don't really wanna sit on the phone for an hour sorting it out so was just wondering if it'd work out alright if I disconnected everything and just let it sat for awhile.
  12. Cadburys are at it again

@ Rokhed - I thought it was Bon Jovi playing on the trucks bit.? It was Livin' On A Prayer playing during that trucks cadbury's advert when I watched it a few days ago. Doesn't quite have the same oomph as Don't Stop Me Now though. They should have just kept it at that. Queen are much better than Bon Jovi.
  13. The University Thread 08/09

Got my laptop today from Dell for Uni. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to touch it until my father backs up all of the factory installed settings, then installs all of the anti-virus stuff, and then all of the Microsoft office stuff, and gets the wireless and email sorted. Pain in the arse but at least I'm not having to do it. It's good having a dad who's job is designing computer chips as he knows how to set everything up on a computer. Only a week left before I start (well it's matriculation for the first week so one day and then I'm off for the rest) and I keep remembering tiny little things that I still need to sort out. My mother even asked about Fresher's Week and why I wasn't going to anything. Seems she's trying to get rid of me.
  14. How was your day?

Spent the rest of my day watching King of the Hill. 'Yeh... well... your lawn is shaggy!' Priceless. My mother is trying to pressure me into painting the room again. There is some kind of dust like substance on the wall (it's not dust) so I think I'll have to strip back the coats I put on in the first place and start again. Bugger. Took forever to do it in the first place. And when the sun is shining in the room and your painting the walls red and the ceiling a gunmetal/black colour, it doesn't help. But I'll see what happens. If I can rope my brother into help again then I'll do it this weekend.
  15. official rare gamecube game thread!

Doshin the Giant? now there's a game I haven't seen since launch. I presume that's quite rare now as I've only ever seen one copy. Anyway, I have a copy of Beyond Good and Evil on the gamecube and that's my claim to having a rare game as it took the best part of 4 years to get. Thinking about buying the copy of Twilight Princess on 'cube from my local Gamestation because I know that that'll go up in price over the next few years.
  16. How was your day?

Been a mixed morning here. Went to bed last night with a sore knee, hoping it'd be fine in the morning. Unfortunately, it was the same so I couldn't do my morning run. So I've been sitting playin Viva Pinata all morning (the first one). And im surprised to say it's not actually that bad.
  17. Rock Band

I'm waiting to find out whether RB2 is region free. I got Mass Effect in from Singapore (don't ask. My mother got it for xmas). And with an average of 60% of 360 games being region free, I'm being hopeful. I doubt it'll be that but I can hope.
  18. How was your day?

Spent most of my day split between playing Guitar Hero and watching tv shows. Trying to prove to my brother that I can keep up with him in Guitar Hero by completing the new dragonforce songs. I can do them but not on Expert but I haven't tried. Apart from that, it's been a bog-standard day. Very boring and dull. And that's not just the weather. Need to go and and get more DVDs though. I've seen every single DVD in my house several times now and I'm getting stuck for things to watch. Same for CDs. If only my siblings would repay me I'd be able to sort it out.
  19. Who Would You Like To Meet?

There are only a couple of famous people I'd like to meet. They are (in no particular order): Morgan Freeman - A fantastic actor. I always enjoy watching his performances and it's strange to think he's only won 1 Oscar. Would be a great priviledge to meet him Al Pacino - Another fantastic actor. Would like to ask him about that speech in Any Given Sunday and find out whether it was scripted or not (I'm guessing it was but who cares. It was so phenomenal). Carlos Santana - In my eyes, he is the greatest guitar player ever. I'd love for him to teach me to play guitar the way he does. Dave Grohl - The good guy of rock and roll. Always been a fan and just think it'd be interesting to meet him. Wayne Gretzsky - He was the reason I started to play ice hockey when I was younger (I no longer play because I don't have the time). That's all I can think of at the moment. And that's probably all I'd wanna meet. I've met Beyonce but lets just say I was very underwhelmed by her presence. There is a lack of females on this list but then there really aren't that many I'd wanna meet. Perhaps Amy Lee, Hayley Williams and Tarja Turunen but that's about it.
  20. How was your day?

^ lol. Rick Astley. Don't try and deny it. We all have a soft spot for Rick and that song. :P Anyway, not done much today. Went out for a look around town just to get away from the spectacular scene my mother was making at home. But got bored and annoyed because it was busy (why? The only reason I can think of for it being busy is that it's indoors.) And I've now been left at home on my own to look after things. So I now have one of my cats trying to be friendly to me while I'm typing this. Little bugger. Not supposed to be on the table. But he's funny. He's following the cursor around the screen trying to catch it.
  21. The University Thread 08/09

^ Well a nice tip: Virgin's online service is just as bad. My connection can go down between 3 and 6 times a day at random times and sometimes for ages. It just seems to be the norm with the internet at the moment (at least in this country). I will say though that the wireless with Virgin is good. Never had any problems using it for internet and playing online. So at least that's one thing.
  22. The University Thread 08/09

Yeh, it's better if you have some sort of work while at Uni. I wouldn't say to drop out of work after the first year though. After your first year, I'd say try and get into work that is focused on your degree. So for example, I may get a bar job for the first year and then start doing internships or something similar with Psychotherapy clinics.
  23. The Dark Knight Discussion (Spoilers)

@ Paj Meen Ah - Well I thought he was pretty bad in Pirates of the Caribbean. Didn't care much for those movies either.
  24. The University Thread 08/09

^ lol. We've got Ian Watkins, of Lostprophets fame, doing a DJ set as part of our Fresher's Week. I haven't sorted out my Fresher's Pass. Can't be bothered as I'm not one for DJs & clubs and that sorta thing.
  25. Football Season 2008/2009

See this is the problem with football these days. It's all about the money. If a manager isn't doing well and not winning, he'll get sacked. But that's just bollocks really because it's the players that are the ones playing and losing. If a manager takes a chance and makes an odd pairing or team selection then it's the players' jobs to get on and make it work. And I thoroughly believe that any board of directors should stay away from any of the on field business. But then again, I don't really watch football (for the reasons stated). Ever since Gerard got that £100k a week contract at Liverpool, the whole football system has gone to hell. it's not about the money and the players need to learn that. It's about playing in front of thousands of people who have come to watch you play, with the weeks pay being a bonus.
