  1. If you fancy someone, you fancy them whether they're wearing glasses or not. Let's face it, someone would be a bit of an ass if they disliked you for wearing glasses! OK, I judge people by appearance, but only things that tell me about their fitness and health. If someone's wearing contact lenses, they've still got the same eyesight as when they're wearing glasses. It's as totally superficial as breast implants, fake nails or hair extensions! I did try contact lenses once, and was amazed by how good they were, but even after a week it was taking me an hour to put them in and take them out. I only need glasses for reading, and have had just as much female attention when I'm wearing them as without, maybe because it's in situations like college and other places of study. I don't think most girls judge you on things like that. Other things, yes, but probably not glasses.
  2. I agree. I think the problem (from what I've heard) is that he's tired of watching so much TV, and so presumably doesn't pick up as many funny bits as he used to, filling the gaps instead with puppets, toys etc. Personally, I see lots of stuff during the week I think he'll pick up on, but he doesn't. Always assumed he had researchers helping him too. Still really like him though.
  3. Love it! Like most others, I got a stocking (pillow case) from Father Christmas in the morning, and then bigger presents from the family in the afternoon.
  4. It's funny how the celebrated Zelda formula of overworld, dungeons and villages, all connected and all to the same scale, has suddenly become "tedious" now Skyward Sword's taken another route.
  5. Early on in the game, there are those isometric rooms and the long, isometric stretches of cloud platforms. I'd say the intention there was definitely for them to be viewed in stereoscopic mode. The flipside is that I couldn't judge the depth even with the 3D on, and so it became a case of trial and error. Only took one failure each though; the designers seemed to realise it wasn't a good idea and gave up on it. Great game though, I agree. It's long, it's challenging and Mario runs at the right speed for me. I also loved the run button and the button arrangement - took me right back to the SNES - although I agree with others that they should be reconfigurable (after all, why not?) The Bowser fights were great: No gimmicks, just a pure test of dodging and jumping. The power-ups are probably the best since Super Mario World and the levels are a very careful balance of linear fun and non-linear secrets. My only other (very minor) complaint, apart from the isometric sections, is that left-to-right movement is still better locked to a d-pad. There were quite a few occasions when I didn't press exactly right, although I suppose that's my fault. Nonetheless, this is the best Mario for ages. It takes everything I liked from the Galaxy games (the variety, presentation) and removes most of what I wasn't so keen on (the gravity effects, upside-down sections), although I should say I haven't done much of the post-game yet.
  6. For me, it's things that were fashionable or very much "of their time" like Wayne's World, Bill & Ted and maybe The Fast Show. The flip side is that the stuff I laughed hardest at is still so flipping funny, like Bottom and the early episodes of Only Fools and Horses (the ones that had pathos without overdoing it). The last three series of Shooting Stars were also just as good as the old ones, probably better, so I can't believe they're axing it!
  7. Hasn't the 3DS shown, though, that differentiation isn't all that important after all? In the end, it wasn't the gimmick that made it sell (even though it's a nice gimmick), it was the games. Nintendo tried power and then they tried novelty, but in the end their greatest strength was what we realised all along - their fantastic selection of 1st-party franchises. With better advertising and better versions of their "bridge" titles like Mario Bros and Mario Kart, can we be sure that a new GameCube-type console wouldn't sell? It doesn't need to be more powerful than the other consoles, just up there with them so it can get the multiformat games.
  8. The dimension where they continued the GameCube philosophy, rather than the actual GameCube.
  9. Thing is, the latest Battlefield gained its stellar reputation because of its cutting-edge technical prowess. Considering Nintendo didn't go down this route with Wii, I doubt Battlefield would have had much pulling power beyond any other decent exclusive. Sorry to be boring.
  10. Online features are fine by me... as long as they are just features! DQ IX was multiplayer locally (so I'm told), so something like that but online as well sounds about right.
  11. I've got a prescription for both of us: Dragon Quest XI PS3 or Wii U Level-5 Turn-based Offline Either that or Ni no Kuni!
  12. You honestly think Star 242 of Super Mario Galaxy 2 was easy? If so, you're just too good.
  13. An inventive chap has created a real water jetpack, similar to FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine. Not only does it look great fun, it can probably clean up graffiti! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2062213/Water-powered-Jetlev-jetpack-propels-fliers-30ft-air-costs-150-go.html
  14. Sorry, didn't even notice that in the 3DS version! Have you actually "won" Epona yet? If not, climb on her and talk to the unpleasant bloke whilst on horseback (daytime). He'll challenge you to a race. If you've done that, I'm not sure there is anything else to do.
  15. I'll tell you later. In fact, I've got a feeling I'll be able to tell you very soon... I've just blasted through World 1 100%. At the moment, I'm trying to find the well-hidden 3rd Star Coin in 2-2. To be fair, I don't think this game is too easy and, depending on the post-game, may not even be short.
  16. Personally, I didn't have much expectation for this game - I wasn't sceptical, but nor was I excited. In the end, I just ordered it because it was Mario and I knew it'd be good. I've just tried it today and... it's great! OK, I've only had time to do two levels, but all the Mario gameplay is in place - long jumps, wall jumps, nooks and crannies... (my favourite game in the series is probably Super Mario World on the SNES.) I must admit, a run button combined with the Slide Pad did sound strange on paper, but it works really well. Feels as natural as the 2D games to me.
  17. I read Gamespot's review and it was very well-reasoned. I'm glad we've still got some honest reviewers, rather than those who pretend it's a 10 or near-10 every single time, just because it's a big-name game. As for awarding higher scores to other games, no, I can't believe Sonic Generations is better than Skyward Sword, but I can believe it may be better-formed and achieve its goals better, in the same way that Nintendogs got very high scores. Heck, Tetris is a 10/10. Does it have the scope, range and immersion of Zelda? No, but it is more neatly-formed and more "perfect" than, say, Twilight Princess. Doesn't mean I'd rather play it than TP, but I can see how other, seemingly inferior, games can get higher scores.
  18. Me? I'll get into trouble again if I answer that! But what the heck... No, I highly, highly doubt that this will be up there with what I consider the best Zeldas (OOT, MM, WW), although I do expect it to be the equivalent of Twilight Princess. The game seems so unconventional. I suspect they've listened to the fans who wanted innovation too much, which to me was not the problem with Twilight Princess. Put it this way: the way they've structured Skyward Sword doesn't seem like the natural way I'd want to improve the series. BUT I think this could be just as enjoyable as Spirit Tracks. I wasn't very excited about that game, but when I played it, I couldn't really fault it. Nintendo's designers are on good form, I wouldn't argue with that.
  19. Ah, I couldn't resist watching that Gametrailers review. Don't regret it either, although obviously it shows you lots of scenes. The music is fabulous, surely a new benchmark for the series. Not surprising, perhaps, considering it's the first orchestrated soundtrack, but reassuring all the same.
  20. Fosters have done what they did with Alan Partridge and funded new web episodes of The Fast Show. If I'm honest, there's room for improvement but it was a nice watch, especially the Euro spoof, Chanel 9... Most of the actors are present minus Mark Williams (so no "Suit You!") Personally, I'm hoping for Arthur Atkinson, Tommy Cockles and Chester Drawers before long. "Where's me washboard?!"
  21. Really hyped for these. To be fair to @Dante, the things he posted were "negative spoilers", ie. certain things are not in it! I honestly think we could have just one thread if people were sensible and hid major spoilers properly (like characters etc).
  22. Very true. As long as I've got a clear conscience (which is important), I can hold my head up high. I've found the best people see your true side too.
  23. Rubbish. You're the one doing that, using words like "worse". I said "Not better than...?", exactly as the quote said. I've read the full GamesRadar review anyway and it's totally clear what they're saying.
