  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

For me, Animal Crossing is about catching all the fish and bugs, so unless I've miscalculated that means playing until at least December (when the last new ones become available). I'd also like to collect all the fish and bug models, but unless Flick and C.J. start visiting more often (or allow you to request multiple models at once), that'll take years. I'm sure Nintendo will keep tweaking the game, but the idea of them improving it in that way seems a bit optimistic. It's also more time consuming for me to collect all the furniture sets and general items this time, as 3DS had free online but I'm not playing online with Switch.
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The chances of getting certain visitors has been discovered: Sahara, Kicks and Leif guaranteed every week on weekdays Other two weekday slots filled by either Gulliver, Flick, C.J., Label or Redd https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/05/animal_crossing_new_horizons_datamine_reveals_spawn_rates_of_special_characters Now personally I feel there are too many characters since the update. My favourites are C.J. and Flick and I'm not enjoying it as much since they don't appear so often. Gulliver, Sahara and Redd are not favourites of mine, but do serve a purpose. Kicks and Label, I feel, could easily become part of the existing clothes shop once you've bought enough from them, a bit like how Mabel no longer takes up a visitor slot. Leif could have a garden centre section of Nook's Cranny.
  3. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I saw one as well, but I followed it and it disappeared into thin air! Appeared in my plaza as soon as K.K. Slider had left, so maybe it needs open spaces. Perhaps I have too many flowers.
  4. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Sounds like Queen Alexandra's Birdwing, which I almost requested instead of the Banded Dragonfly. Definitely going to go for that one next though! I wonder if any of the fish are extra-sized?
  5. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Two weeks into May, I still have not even seen a scorpion! Just hoping complaining on the internet works its magic again. Apart from that, I can't get enough of the models in this game. The pier fish are my favourite, so I got the Tuna (which I think I posted a picture of before), Blue Marlin and Giant Trevally. Only one I don't have enough of is the Mahi-Mahi, so hopefully I'll be able to catch three before I next encounter C.J. Bug-wise, I didn't know what to ask Flick for. Eventually decided on the Banded Dragonfly, and am very glad I did. Flick hyped it up, and I didn't really believe him, but I should have done because it is awesome!
  6. Streets of Rage 4

I've now completed it on Normal with every character and Hard with Blaze. I liked all the characters but found Cherry the most difficult to use as her dash attack goes into a jump, which is easily countered by some of the enemies. After a week playing this game, I think it is a 10/10. I simply cannot find a single fault with it. I don't consider myself a particularly skilled player, so it's extremely rare for me to want to play a game on harder difficulties, but I'm doing so with this. I have to really love a game to enjoy mastering it, but this is such a game.
  7. Paper Mario: The Origami King

I've only played Thousand Year Door, but this looks brilliant. Funny and quite sinister at the same time!
  8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I was really surprised (and pleased) to find one of my neighbours had sent me a Valiant Statue this morning. He said he'd found it on the beach! I took it to the museum and it turned out to be genuine.
  9. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I just assumed they were the same as tarantulas, in that they only attack you if you have your net out, and you have to stop moving when it warns you. Are scorpions more aggressive?
  10. Streets of Rage 4

I've completed the game now and feel strongly that the game is genius level. After starting with Axel, I switched to Blaze and didn't swap characters until I'd seen the credits. I don't know if it's just because I was getting used to the game in general, but I found Blaze easier to use. Visually, her design is better than ever too; they've really got her 100% right. What's brilliant about this game is that, like many of the classic Sega brawlers, it's tough but you feel it can be mastered. It's not a coin-op wanting you to continually insert credits. In fact, unlike previous games in the series, you have to get through each level on one credit. I can't complete the whole game in one credit yet, but it feels achievable.
  11. General Switch Discussion

@RedShell, @Ashley, thanks for the replies. I've got it working now, I just wasn't being very attentive. Since the update, Twitter is referred to by your username on there, rather than "Twitter" as such.
  12. General Switch Discussion

Have I missed something, or is it no longer possible to post screenshots to Twitter from the Switch? The option is no longer there on mine, only Facebook.
  13. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Yeah, I really enjoyed the May Day tour too. I think there's a lot of potential for mazes in this game.
  14. Should Reviewers be fans?

I'd argue the opposite. There is a difference between being a fan, being a fanboy and just appreciating a series or genre. Take Streets of Rage 4 - I'm actually not that nostalgic about this series, but I think you need a reviewer who appreciates the genre. And by that I do mean the true genre as it was at the time of its peak - the late-'80s/early-'90s. It is possible that someone younger just hasn't experienced that genre enough to appreciate it; to know what it's like to go through one of these standing beside your friend at an arcade cabinet or sitting next to them on the couch. Beat-'em-ups often get criticised for being too simple, but there is a balance to get right. I don't want my brawlers as simple as, say, King of Dragons, but nor do I want them like the late-'90s, when Street Fighter II began exerting too much influence and introduced overly-complex combos into the likes of Final Fight 3. The inconvenient truth is the perfect formula lies somewhere around and between the original Final Fight and Streets of Rage 2, and it hasn't really been bettered since. This genre is largely about timing and positioning - it needs restrictions. In Streets of Rage 4 most of the characters can't even dash, but it's all part of the design of this game. You can do combos, but it doesn't appear the game gives them too much importance. At the end of the day, I haven't completed Streets of Rage 4 yet and there might be some things I dislike that others don't. But from what I've played so far, it's a kind of alchemy.
  15. Streets of Rage 4

I saw it was 10% off, so downloaded it this afternoon. They know how to sway me. The game is superb, much better than I expected. It feels perfect, with combat neither too complicated nor too simple. It also manages to come across as its own game, moving you through noticeable environments that get the story across, with various surprises and events along the way. I play a lot of beat-'em-ups, and that's one of the hardest things to get right, even in cases where the gameplay is otherwise very good. So far, it really is the best of its genre since the glory days.
  16. Streets of Rage 4

Hmm, I'm about 8/10 convinced to buy the game. I'm really undecided and might just as easily impulse download it today as I might not. One thing's for sure, I'm now 100% convinced by the art style. Those animated GIFs of Axel and Blaze are stunning. I used to love the pixel art, but seeing what they look like on a high-resolution display, you realise they had to go down the hand-drawn route, and the results are absolutely gorgeous.
  17. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Are you visiting your villagers enough in their homes? When I'm wandering around I check in on anyone who's indoors. If they're not constructing anything I leave immediately and they give me a big "?".
  18. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Yep, Polygon has made a guide as well, and it seems like it's just the four: Critter type Name Location Size Value Time Bug Tarantula On ground N/A 8,000 7 p.m. - 4 a.m. Fish Dab Sea Medium 300 All day Fish Tuna Pier Largest 7,000 All day Fish Blue Marlin Pier Largest 10,000 All day https://www.polygon.com/animal-crossing-new-horizons-switch-acnh-guide/2020/4/27/21238502/april-fish-bug-list-critterpedia-leaving-this-month
  19. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Very pricey. I wonder if it was always meant to be like that or it's because of the update? I just got the upgraded Nook's Cranny today and was surprised the Treadmill was 64,000 Bells!
  20. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Yeah, with fish and bugs, I try to get five: 1 for the museum 1 for my house (if it's a favourite) 3 for a model ...And then sell the rest. Selling the valuable ones has been my main source of income, as I don't play online. I used to have loads of Peacock Butterflies around my blue flowers, but haven't seen any today. Since the update, it really feels like they're specifically keeping the more valuable ones away from us.
  21. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Yeah, it's getting to the point where Nintendo's tinkering is taking away more enjoyment than it's adding. They should have decided what the correct spawn rate was before they released the game, not restricted it in some sort of odd, puritan attempt to stop players enjoying it! And I don't understand why Nintendo lowered the interest rate either. Doesn't really matter if some people were making money that way; if that's the way they wanted to play it, fair enough. This is becoming that dreaded embodiment of a developer being able to change the balance of something after you've bought it. If they actually wanted people to enjoy it more, they should enable tools that don't break and faster crafting!
  22. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I'm genuinely confused. I loaded up Animal Crossing this morning at about 8am and couldn't find any visitors to my island. Went online a bit later to check the eShop, and the New Horizons patch started downloading. Upon loading up the game again, it said it needed to update my save data (or something like that) to sync it up with the new version of the game. Sure enough, Earth Day has started, but there are still no visitors and no Leif either. All it let me do was get extra Nook Miles for placing some flowers down. I thought you could visit a different island or something? Hopefully there's not a problem with my game. I don't mind waiting for the rest of the Earth Day stuff, but was really hoping to see Flick or C.J. today for another model.
  23. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Regarding the potential DLC... My take on this is there's a difference between something that feels like a genuine addition to the game, like if they added an island where you could go and do different things, and long-time traditional content like furniture. Most of the rumoured additions feel pretty borderline to me, although undoubtedly some of them have been in previous games. There's also a massive difference between paid DLC and free updates. If they just haven't yet had time to put in all the furniture, fair enough. I've never been a fan of paid DLC though, so if there's any intention to charge for it, that does feel a bit cheeky. As it stands, New Horizons feels like a well-rounded game except for the lack of furniture. I generally have enough to do, especially as there are new fish and bugs to catch every month. But the lack of previous furniture series, eg. Sleek, does make it feel incomplete. Other than that, I hope we get dinosaur models.
  24. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

    My favourites are: K.K. House K.K. Bossa K.K. D&B K.K. Disco K.K. Fusion K.K. Groove Space K.K. My Place
  25. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The ant is the only creature I still need that it's possible to catch so far. I bought some turnips two weeks ago but accidentally ate them; now I'm just hoping to be able to catch one tomorrow with last week's turnips. Also, Flick was on my island yesterday and so I ordered another model. I chose the Agrias butterfly because of the colours:
