  1. Sonic Frontiers

Its crazy how much different editing of footage can make it look so different. The biggest information here is that there are multiple islands, each with multiple linear stages within it.
  2. Sonic Origins (23rd June)

Definitely the best alternative, I was expecting just the pre-release tracks from the PC version, so new renditions of those so they work better is an improvement from that.
  3. Star Trek Masturbatathon

Strange New Worlds is amazing so far. Each episode has a different feel, but is really solid. I think people who want something closer to older Star Trek shows are going to be extremely pleased. Unfortunately, the UK plans are a bit rubbish. It will be £6.99 a month (or free if you have Sky Cinema). Star Trek Discovery season 4 will be available straight away, as are the first 10 episodes of Prodigy, but only the first three episodes of Strange New Worlds will be (instead of putting all episodes currently available in America), with the rest being available on a weekly basis, so it will be 8 weeks behind. The new director's cut of The Motion Picture will also not be available in the UK.
  4. Your Gaming Diary 2022

Need for Speed Payback I wanted to play a car game and this one seemed to have a good singleplayer focus. Despite hearing lots of bad things…I really enjoyed it. The silly rival crew designs are a lot of fun, and the characters are cliche but likeable. Handling felt really good, and handbraking around corners was very satisfying. The main game follows a story where a bunch of criminals who end up getting mixed in with a plot to rig races (and seemingly take over the world) and your goal is to win despite this. I honestly liked this much more than Forza Horizon 5, it has a good structure and the cards felt more meaningful. Black I only played this for a couple of levels as I did not get on with it at all. I heard good things about it back in the day but it just feels dated and not as fun to play as other retro FPS games. It was difficult to follow the story due to a lack of subtitles, and the atmosphere just felt completely wrong due to a lack of music (I’m not sure if that’s how the game originally was or if it’s a bug from backwards compatibility). Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion An incredibly fun and silly game. It’s very short, but still manages to cram in a lot of fun moments. Loosely Zelda ish with a focus on doing quests for people. Sniper Elite 5 I’ve not played any previous ones, but this was on Game Pass so I thought I would try it. It really scratched the classic Hitman itch I’ve had. There’s a focus on stealth but if you get caught you can still fight - there’s a ton of difficulty settings to make it how you want it to be. The kill camera (with an X-ray view of organs being punctured) is very satisfying and there are often multiple ways to complete objectives. The levels also didn’t seem overly large while still feeling large (it felt like the space was meaningful and just wasn’t big for the sake of it). Very enjoyable game. Supraland Based on the brief description of being a “sandbox” game and the simple character designs, I was expecting a silly physics game like Human: Fall Flat. I was very wrong about this, and Supraland was so much more than I expected. The game is not a “sandbox game” in the sense that you can do whatever you want in a playground - it’s literally set in a child’s sandbox. You play as a plasticine figure, son of the red king. The blue plasticine people cut off the water supply to your village and it’s your job to save it. Supraland’s inspiration from other games is clear. I was concerned to start with as the title screen is a clear rip-off of the Zelda theme, but thankfully other inspirations are handled much more subtle. There's a device that looks similar to a Portal gun (instrumental to puzzles) but it has its own unique uses, and you can find hidden dead bodies of characters dressed up as people from popular franchises. Supraland is a puzzle-platformer-metroidvania. As you progress through the areas, you’ll unlock new abilities and items in order to solve new puzzles, and you will backtrack to previous areas to progress. By the end of the game, it’s immensely satisfying just how easy traversal across the map is. One problem is that there are a lot of abilities, so much that it can be easy to forget some of the combinations you can do - there’s even an NPC that starts off by saying “Are you part of the 90% club” and when you’re struggling his message will change to “At this point, 90% of players forgot you could to [ability]”. Even with this, I immensely enjoyed this game and even carried on after the main story to get 100% completion because the exploration, movement and puzzles were so much fun. Kraken Academy Another 2D game where you have to complete lots of quests. This has almost no combat in it, mostly just going from point to point with a couple of minigames and quick time events, but is also still fun to play. You’re a new student at a school called Kraken Academy, and you get told that the school will be destroyed in three days and you have to free four spirits (representing the different departments of Music, Art, Sports and Drama). You get given an amulet that allows you to return to the first day. There are a lot of fun characters that you have to befriend, and a lot of fun scenes. It’s quite a relaxing game - although I think there could have been some more fun time travel shenanigans and paradoxes.
  5. Neutral stuff thread

I am OK with this thread.
  6. Their customer support for damaged stuff is pretty much "too bad" when you're in the UK, too. I got a board game from them and the quality was shockingly bad, with ripped cards and duplicate parts with other stuff missing (the board game itself is also absolutely terrible).
  7. Manged three days last week, carried on today, still pretty tough. I do think I will need a new bike, there's a charity near me that I'm trying to contact that is selling some upcycled ones that have been fully serviced, or possibly look into the cycle to work scheme (my workplace is part of it). When the weather is nice, it's a lovely route
  8. The Star Wars Thread

I just kept thinking "why is the Star Trek reboot music playing?", just seemed odd that a recurring theme sounded so much like one of his earlier ones - which is a brilliant theme. That said, even John Williams was guilty of reusing music, with the Episode 2 hover car chase music being used for Quidditch.
  9. Xbox Series S | X Console Discussion

If it's a finished version of the almost-complete remaster on 360, then it will be brilliant. Even with the few unfinished graphical elements, it was a lot of fun to play.
  10. The Star Wars Thread

I'd rather composers re-work sections of known themes or create entirely new music rather than trying to create new music trying to evoke the previous music. The Rogue One soundtrack was just distracting to me because it kept sounding like it was going to burst out into a known theme but didn't (Other soundtracks I found distracting include The Hobbit, Spider-man Homecoming and Doctor Strange). @Ronnie
  11. Sonic Frontiers

They've mentioned different biomes (the current buzzwords for different environments), and it's been suggested that there's possibly a large open world map, but also sections which are more linear. Hopefully so far is a case where a company is being too careful about revealing stuff, even to their own detriment.
  12. The art style reminds me of the GameCube spaceworld tech demo videos. Not much for me in this one. Was already looking forward to Stray, but being in PS++ makes me want to wait for a sale. Might which a let's play of Horizon VR for any story stuff.
  13. I saw @RedShell's post in the Your 2020 Gaming Diary and figured it would make sense to have a thread about GamesPass, and a discussion about some of the games (not all games need their own thread, and I've never been sure about putting it into the Xbox One or PC threads). I'm likely going to be a on-and-off subscriber to games pass and, while there have been quite a few games I've enjoyed, I've yet to encounter a game I love on it yet (hopefully that will change at some point).
  14. Sonic Frontiers

The environment closer up looks more like Sonic's style than the previous trailer showed, a lot more curves, springs and rings. Exploring looks like it will be fun, and platforming looks good. It seems that the hamster wheel things (and other puzzles) unlock a collectible and are not the standard "unlock icons on a map" thing. I do hope that you can turn off the big indicators highlighting puzzles and stuff, though. Graphics seem nice, but I hope the pop-in is sorted out by launch. The music is nice, but I don't think it fits. I eventually warmed to the relaxing music style in BotW, but I think it makes Frontiers feel slow, I think it would feel faster with different music. I'm quite optimistic about this.
  15. The Star Wars Thread

The Grand Inquisitor's species looks fantastic in Episode III. I'm sure with a bit of work and someone with more experience with prosthetics would have been able to have that design in a more action orientated manner (I think Doug Jones would have absolutely nailed the Grand Inquisitor). I can never remember the numbers, so I had no idea that the Fifth Brother in this was supposed to be someone seen in Rebels - I thought he was just a human with very dry skin, the markings are very subtle.
  16. Disney+

There's a stop motion Pinocchio from Guillermo del Toro out this year, one where Pinocchio is a complete and utter prick. That one might have scenes similar to that one.
  17. The Star Wars Thread

It's not even just Star Wars actors: I wasn't a fan of the performance, but I think she had a lot of things against her, such as having to act alongside people in dumpy costumes that look like they didn't fit. I think even the best actors would have struggled. I'm sure Rupert Friend is a much better actor than how he seemed in this (out of the three, Moses was by far the best). TBH, I think the biggest problem is that this group of characters were designed as highly stylised cartoon villains, with over-the-top designs that work well in animation - at least they haven't attempted to portray them flying with their lightsabers in live action.
  18. The Star Wars Thread

I do find it interesting that he's allowed to mention comic cons that aren't officially affiliated with Star Wars in any way.
  19. The Star Wars Thread

Some thoughts in episode 1 and 2 of Obi-Wan
  20. The Star Wars Thread

Not live streaming just means they people will watch low quality versions of footage instead. Don't understand why it's still done these days.
  21. General Switch Discussion

They're also making the Restored Content mod available for it, which adds a ton of unfinished stuff to the game.
  22. It's a 6km journey each way, need to work out how long it will take. Google says 20 minutes, buy it took me that long to do a shorter route. Although the route to work will have fewer roads to cross, as most of it will be along the prom. It'll probably get quicker as I get used to a bike more (today was the first time in over 10 years), especially learning how to use the gears. My legs are actually quite short, so I think a bigger bike would be too tall
  23. I'm going to start trying to cycle to and from work, picked up my bike from my mother-in-law and cycled home I need to sort out some better clothing (then get changed at work), and a seat cover but hopefully it goes well.
  24. Your Gaming Diary 2022

Trek to Yumi A very stylish game, with a black and white grainy image and a samurai setting. Unfortunately, it’s kind of a style with little substance - and the style diminishes after chapter 3, too. The combat at its best feels a bit like the Lord of the Rings games on GameCube, with the addition of a huge focus on parries - which would be great if it didn’t feel unresponsive. The main issue seems to be that pressing the LB button (which feels a bit awkward when it’s one of the most used buttons in the game) causes the block animation to start, and it needs to be finished before the parry works, so the “shine” that represents when you should parry is misleading. Another issue is that, as nice as the style is, the odd camera angles and objects in front of the player can often make it difficult to see what is going on. Paradise Killer A game all about solving a mystery, it’s set in a world where immoral beings (one of them being you) lord over islands of their creation, in order to create a “perfect” island to appease the gods. People keep getting corrupted by demons, making the place corrupted and requiting it to be scrapped and a new island started. Only this time, the entirety of the council has been murdered and you have to figure out who. You’ll need to find the answers to this mystery (as well as discover new mysteries) by exploring the island, solving puzzles and talking to the remaining residents. Everything is bright and colourful with a great upbeat soundtrack, which just enhances how dark some of the actual events are. Something I really liked was how the case is resolved: you make your case and submit evidence, with enough evidence, your answer is accepted. The game doesn’t tell you if you were right and wrong, as you can have evidence to accuse multiple people. It’s all about you being happy that you’ve got the right answers. Sleeping Dogs I felt like playing a favourite of mine. I think it’s strange how open worlds have taken off massively, but there haven’t been many games in the “crime city” genre, with the only decent ones after Sleeping Dogs being the Watch Dogs series, which in itself have a different focus on fighting the government rather than bring about crime. The combat in Sleeping Dogs is still satisfying, with an interesting plot and some fun missions. Still a great game, I wish we could have another game like this. Umurangi Generation A photography game that has a very interesting setting (one that I won’t go into because it’s fun to discover what the setting is, as it’s not obvious from the start), but is ultimately fairly bland. The game looks straight up unfinished, with textures varying in quality massively, and some straight up missing. The game felt much more like a “hidden object game”, where the focus is finding a list of objects rather than the actual photography. It’s quite short so if you have a bit of time, it’s interesting enough to see the setting, but that’s about it. Little Witch in the Woods A really nice little game. It’s a 2D pixelated quest game about exploration and crafting. One huge thing I enjoyed is that there aren't a massive amount of different steps, and no long wait timers and no combat. It’s a very relaxing game, with a fascinating world and characters. It’s only a “Game Preview”, so you only get the first few sections of the game, which is a shame, but I’m looking forward to trying the rest.
  25. Worst console design

Speaking of designing a console to look like a VCR style machine: Although I don't quote understand trying to mimic 90s VCRs in 2013.
