  1. Donkey Kong Country Returns

You guys are all silly. When it comes out over there, just try to sit down and enjoy it, don't tear it apart on all the small details. It'll make you enjoy it more. That being said, I haven't played it again since that first night... but it's not the fault of the game at all... I've been playing Kinect instead... 'cause I gotta give that back in a few days.... sooooo yea.
  2. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (PSP)

I haven't paid any attention to this series at all. I actually have a demo disk for Monster Hunter Tri, but haven't ever played it. From what I can tell in those videos it seems like a Phantasy Star Online type experience.
  3. Kinect Discussion

So this Kinect thing is impressing me more and more. I just played (and lost) a game of table tennis online... and just.. the fact that it does motion capture you and your opponent is really really interesting. To see the avatars do their little taunts and victory dances that you know some nerd across the world is doing in their living room is just fantastic haha. That was my first online table tennis game... and just.. even without using headsets you can tell what they're implying and such. I started the match by pointing at the other player and then pointing at the ground and jumping on it. He started laughing and shrugged. Halfway through the game he got an Ace on me and started a little victory dance and... there's just something about it that makes it awesome haha. I was laughing and smiling the entire time, while losing.... (5-11)
  4. Donkey Kong Country Returns

We were playing coop, and unlike New Super Mario Bros Wii, in this game you share a pool of lives.... and if Diddy dies on you there goes a life. If you fail at barrel blasting... two lives gone. There's also heaps of secrets and stuff... and well we spent a good deal of time just trying to figure out how to get diddy off of donkey kong's back. (Apparently Z if you're using a nunchuck... if just a wiimote.. i have no idea.) A lot of my deaths I'd attribute to the roll mechanic being not what I'm expecting. The roll is a sort of boost... and so you end up going (or at least it seems like it) quite a bit faster for the beginning of the roll... then it slows back down to normal speed... so it's weird to get used to. If you're playing single player, it's HEAPS easier since you get the double jump and such. (diddy jetpack) The only animal helpers that I know of in this game (I read it somewhere in or on the game or something...) is Rambi and Squacks. The music has been fantastic so far too, no complaints there... other than them using what seemed like a temple song on a jungle map.... but.. *shrug* I do miss the kremlings though. E:/ Also, in my defense for only making it through a few levels last night... I had been drinking and such... sooo I blame that on my failures hahaha. E2: @ mcj metroid, there's waggle whether you use the nunchuck or not.
  5. Donkey Kong Country Returns

My roommate and I went out and grabbed the game at midnight, played around for an hour and now it's bed time So far we were both enjoying the game heaps. Just... decided to go to bed after our first game over on level 4 haha. He ended up going with the wii + nunchuck combo, I just went with sideways wiimote... because the classic controller isn't supported . The roll feels very very different than the classic games... definitely will take some getting used to... but it's not bad at all. Looking forward to playing more tomorrow.
  6. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

All I've played of it was the multiplayer beta on the PS3. I didn't really care for the game much, but it's just not my style of game. My roommate however is loving it, has so far ONLY played the multiplayer on it. Last night he was playing, and it was funny because his HUD just disappeared midgame... the only thing left was the little circle thing at the bottom middle saying which direction and how close his target was, and the timer at the top. He still came in like 2nd place... without knowing what his target looks like, how many people are chasing him, or if he needs to be sneaky or not haha. It was... interesting.
  7. Good 4 Player Party Games for Xbox 360?

Why don't you have Rockband? :P
  8. Kinect Discussion

Something kinda funny that I found out. In the track and field game for Kinect Sports, you can have your avatar reach out to the other lanes to touch the other avatars. They get upset with you haha. My avatar was getting his creeper grope on, grabbin the girl's butt in the lane next to him and all she cared about was that my guy wasn't in the proper lane haha. Also, hitting the other avatars while on the podium at the end of a Track and Field tourney. Something else that I found... interesting about the Kinect itself... is that the thing keeps track of people by their face, clothes, and height... but it seems to put height as it's top priority. What I mean is, if I start out wearing my slippers, then take them off and try to open the guide, it won't know who I am. If I take off my zip up sweater though it still knows me. It also knows me if I put on my glasses haha. The thing's gotta be a pain for kids as they grow.
  9. Kinect Discussion

Well then Dyson, I guess I'll go try out Kinect Sports.
  10. Costume Quest

Please only be like $5. As much as I <3 Double Fine I don't think I'd be able to justify $10 on DLC for an already expensive game (for how short it is.)
  11. Kinect Discussion

Tried out the demo for Dance Central and again, enjoyed it. The game is a lot easier to learn than I was expecting, since the only "dancing" games I've played are Dance Maniax and Para Para Paradise (not going to count DDR/ITG/PIU/TM 'cause those are arrow smash games) and both of those games have much more of a learning curve to them. I can't really say much about the game as it really doesn't have much to it. I mean... you choose what song you wanna do, then you can either launch the "Break it Down" thing to teach you the different moves to the song, or just dive right into the song (and probably fail it haha). The thing to teach you how to do the moves is pretty slick, and does a good job of actually teaching you the moves. If I actually get a Kinect, this will probably be a purchase for me. By the way, the Kinect Adventures game has demos for.. Kinect Sports, Dance Central, and Yourself Fitness (or whatever the fitness game is called) on it. When you're on the main menu (before you "start your adventure") go to the bottom left for the demos.
  12. Awesome NES Modification

Haha if only the NES Advantage had decent buttons... *sigh* Pretty neat though :P
  13. Kinect Discussion

So my roommate brought one home and well... I think I'm the only one living here to have played with it since it's been hooked up. I know my roommate that brought it (Kirby. Yes, that's his real name.) has played with it before... but the other four roommates just haven't touched it yet.... which is a shame. My first Kinect game was Kinectimals. Yes, Kinectimals. I have a stack of 4 Kinect games (Adventures, Joy Ride, Sports? and Kinectimals) that he brought home as well... and from that stack I decided Kinectimals was the first game to go in the system. I had a great time playing with my little tiger cub thing. I played the game for around 2 hours or so before I realized that.. I had been playing it for about two hours. At that point I put it down... err... turned it off and walked away haha. The game was heaps of fun though and was definitely a neat experience. Today I decided to give Kinect Adventures a go. I got rather into that game as well. I had a lot of fun with it and just... over all had a great time. I'm looking forward to trying out the other two games I have here, as I haven't been disappointed yet. Also, I really wanna try Dance Central.... that game looks rather neat :P
  14. Job search (Thread rip)

My big problem is just not hearing back at all from studios. I haven't been very active in applying and such lately... but when I was being rather active about it I sent out something like 80 applications... and literally heard back from ONE studio. ONE. Which then they gave me an art test that I failed haha. It's rough, but I gotta get back to it.
  15. good stuff thread.

I played Goldeneye on my N64 with my roommate. Yes yes.
  16. Drunken thread ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever played Beeropoly? Whenever you spend money, take a drink for every $100 you spend. If you land on someone's property and you don't have houses up or anything yet, for every $10 you spend, take a drink. It's great.
  17. New born gift ideas

Get the kid a cell phone. He'll love ya for it. Make sure you get unlimited texting for him. He can't talk yet, so minutes aren't really all that necessary.
  18. Your rare and most prized gaming items

Haha nice :P If I were you I'd go find a used N64 (I've seen em at thrift stores here for $10) and swap the cases so you have a working pokemon one. :P
  19. Call of Duty: Black Ops

I should probably add my tag to my profile too eh? I'm game to play with you guys :P I'm Llama Juice on XBL. One line paragraphs.
  20. Drunken thread ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think death would put a damper on your night. My roommate and I have been talking about getting DJ Hero for the 360 lately after playing a demo at Best Buy... and I was at a mall and saw DJ Hero 1 on sale for $65 with a turntable bundled in there. I didn't feel like spending the cash so I texted him and he drove out to the mall and bought it haha. This is relevant because I'm drinking. There's this amazing drink, "Four Loko" that they sell here. Tomorrow is the last day they sell them in the state of washington, apparently too many people have been overdosing on them or something. They're only $2.73 for a 23.5 oz can... and that one can will get me drunk so... yar haha. I will miss thee.
  21. 3D Modelling Thread

So did you just make the displacement map in Photoshop and then apply it to the mesh? (Are you using Max?) Or how are you going about generating your displacement map? I ask because I'd imagine painting one would be rather awkward.
  22. 3D Modelling Thread

At the college I went to, the first month they let us play with Maya they made us do a group project where we had to model/rig/animate a character, create a scene, and have 3 side projects on the side as well haha. All that was within a month, with another class... so we really only had half the month to work on it. Mine was AWESOME!!1! There are other people in that scene, just off camera haha.
  23. Donkey Kong Country Returns

You guys get T Shirts? All I get is a silly banana thing for my Wii-mote. Lame.
  24. 3D Modelling Thread

It's not bad, it's just hard to understand what's going on because everything moves (I know the plane doesn't move in 3D space, but since the camera moves so much it makes it look like it moves) You just need something to ground the viewer with.
  25. Costume Quest

So I know this is a slight bump and such, but whatevs. @Rummy, the game isn't an Indie game, the devs on it are DoubleFine. They made Psyconauts and Brutal Legend. Psyconauts is one of the most underrated games ever... well... not that it's underrated. Everyone agrees that the game is amazing, it just was marketed extremely poorly so it didn't sell well at all. That being said, ever since then I've pretty much said to myself that I'll support Double Fine with every game they launch because their games are always ace and they DESERVE high sales numbers and such. Anyhow, the actual game... I did think that $15 was a big steep for an XBLA game like this, but nearly all my roommates were interested in the game too, so I bought it and a bunch of them played it on my 360. To me I got my moneys worth out of it since it entertained them as well... I really think it would have been better at a $10 price point though. The game itself to me was the perfect length. Right about when I got tired of the trick or treating stuff I was done with it, and the game ends. I really enjoyed the game and laughed heaps at it throughout. Double Fine's sense of humor is awesome, and is almost worth buying the game for alone. Speaking of which... I'd actually recommend you get the demo either way, and play through the demo fully, then buy the game and go from there. There's a lot of funny demo only dialogue that I missed out on because I was too eager to buy it haha.
