  1. Halo: Reach

I've been enjoying them a fair bit. Can't really complain. Tempest feels a lot like Relic to me, and that makes me very very happy. I miss Halo 2
  2. 3D Modelling Thread

^This. Then while you're drinking you can honestly say "It's for research! I have to get drunk for school!" and you will be telling the truth.
  3. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

I'm pretty certain the transfer kit will only transfer your HDD stuff over, you'll have to transfer your stuff from your pen drive separately I'd assume. The licenses stuff is fairly simple. You do all that stuff through the website, but the transfer kit SHOULD transfer licenses over I'd think... If your transfer kit doesn't transfer the licenses over then you just have to go on Xbox.com and go through their thing. It should only take a few minutes (when I was transferring licenses the website was being updated at the time... so it was kinda broken.) It's all fairly easy though.
  4. Stop motion animation question

Eenuh preety much nailed it. I haven't done any stop motion, but I've done my fair share of CG animation... and the principals of animation still apply... so the best advice I can give you is that the tripod is a MUST (which you said you have so YAY!) and then timing is a huge issue. Notice how Eenuh said it's 24 frames per second, or in stop motion 12 pictures per second. This is extremely important... because it's hard to keep track of how much 1/12th of a second really is while you're going at it.

Ahliy, it still doesn't look quite believable. My biggest problem that I wouldn't use reference properly while working on animations. What really helped me was when I'd start working on an animation I'd film myself doing the action. Then I'd hop back to that video every once in a while and try to match a lot of the poses and timing to whatever I'm doing. A lot of it is that your guy looks very stiff, and when you're drunk you're usually rather loose. That being said, I'm not the best animator. It's the most tedious thing ever to me and I absolutely hate it haha.

Have you seen the Zbrush demo for Lightbox? *in theory* you could use Zbrush to texture your model if you have perfect orthographic pictures already haha.
  7. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

@The Bard, some of us are trying to get into the video game industry. Generally knowing as much as you can about that industry is helpful. It's also nice to see how the different hardware is selling compared to our own personal feelings about the hardware. If the hardware is pushing a LOT of units then chances are it's a good product and is worth looking into more as well. It's not at all about a console war or anything like that.... at least not in this thread.
  8. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

@Nintendohnut Yea, I caught that and edited it right after posting haha. My bad :P @Goron_3 apparently the Kinect numbers posted are actual units sold to customers, not units shipped.
  9. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

I don't know how well the Move is selling, but the Kinect sold 2.5 million units in the first 25 days. E: Just found this article saying that Sony has SHIPPED (not sold) 4.1 million PS Move devices. This brought up a point to me that makes comparing straight numbers horribly flawed. 41 million PS Move devices is a really odd number because for one person to play they need a camera, the move controller, and some games require the other controller as well (the thumbstick/Dpad one) So, assuming you just want to play alone you need 3 units. If you want a friend to join in you need 5 units total, whereas on the 360 you still only need the 1 Kinect camera. Also I don't know if they're considering the bundle pack stuff as one unit or multiple units.
  10. Comedy Rainbow

I enjoyed it for the most part, the song at the end was just a killer though. If you were to put subtitles throughout the whole thing that would make it heaps better, because the off sync + your accent = ultra fail on my silly American ears.
  11. Kinect Discussion

I was playing Dance Central yesterday for like three hours, and in the middle of it all I saw my roommate sign online. After the song finished I went upstairs and saw that he wasn't using his Xbox or anything (there's been times where he'll have his controller synced to my xbox and so it connects to mine on accident) Turns out the Kinect thought that I was my roommate, and signed him in mid dance. Now... that's cool and all, but if he's playing something upstairs on his 360 and it kicks him offline because it thinks he signed in on mine?... that's kinda silly. Other than that, Dance Central has been awesome haha. I'm lovin it
  12. Donkey Kong Country Returns

I'm only on world 4 coop with a roommate. We've both just been lovin it all the way through. I'm not comparing it to the originals because that's just setting it up for disappointment. It has a lot more of a connection to Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (visuals and boss stuff) which isn't a bad thing. Right now we're at a part involving lots of minecart madness. :P The only thing that's slightly flawed with this kind of stuff is that we're playing Co-op.... and the minecart/rambi parts are really single player only. So you end up just trading off who goes next and such... which isn't a big deal at all... except that when you die it's 2 lives lost. The game is laid back enough to where you don't really care that you die 892347 times on the same stage. We were playing the same map for like a half hour just because we kept dieing. It just kinda fueled us to get better at it and such. Combine that with Player 2's controller randomly disconnecting and sending us both into failure and it ended up just being heaps of fun haha.
  13. Your favourite gamepad?

The thumbsticks on the classic controller for the Wii feel too long. I don't like them at all. Then to use it as a SNES pad just feels weird..
  14. 3D Modelling Thread

What it's doing is basing the length of the curve off of the distance between CVs. What I mean is, it's placing 3 objects between each CV. If there's some sort of option to "disregard CVs" or something it would give you what you want.
  15. Your favourite gamepad?

The thread title is "Your Favorite Gamepad" without the awesome caps. Anyhow, that really changes my previous post.... like.. I was going off what I felt was the best gamepad, something that is versatile and efficient. If I'm going off just what my favorite pad is... it' have to be the NES pad for nostalgic reasons. There's something about the pad where if I just hold it it makes me smile.
  16. Xbox 360 Console Discussion

I ended up grabbing Greed Corp, Splosion Man, and Trials HD. That's not bad for $9 haha
  17. 3D Modelling Thread

I don't quite understand what you're trying to do. Some picture would be awesomely helpful. Also, your drunk walk has intense balance issues. There's no way those feet would hold up his upper torso at that crazy angle.
  18. Kinect Discussion

I get to borrow the kinect for like another three weeks apparently. My roommate also brought home Dance Central today. After an awesome thanksgiving dinner with friends, going down and playing some Dance Central with a bunch of people (aka have one person playing and heaps of backup dancers off to the sides) was loads of fun. There is a 2 player "Dance Battle" mode which you still only play one at a time, where it basically cuts the song in half. So the song plays as Dancer 1 part 1, Dancer 2 part 1, Dancer 1 part 2, Dancer 2 part 2. This helps it be playfully competitive and then lets you celebrate a winner at the end of the song. Learning the dance moves to the songs was a lot easier when you had a room full of people. Then everyone is trying it at the same time (only one person is judged...) but everyone still has to learn the moves for their own sake for when it's their turn. Overall, it was my best Kinect experience yet.... but that's probably mostly due to the friends involved and such.... I didn't really expect this game to be a good party game at all... but it really really was haha.

MEL is fairly outdated, I'd go with Python if I were you honestly. My Uni stopped teaching MEL almost instantly when Python was fully supported for Maya and by learning Python here it'll help you just knowing the language anyway.
  20. Your favourite gamepad?

The retro fanboy in me wants to just scream SNES, because it fit the console all so well. The GCN controller is great for a lot of stuff... but it's horrible for FPS... so sadly it loses there. My favorite controller would have to be the Xbox 360 controller. The thumbstick layout is a lot more natural to me than the Sony controllers... the only downside to the 360's controllers are the Dpad. If they were to make them less floaty It would easily take the crown for the best controller ever.
  21. Worms: Battle Islands

I want another 3D worms game.
  22. Kinect Discussion

Yea, I'm agreeing with Dyson. Although I've been having an absolute blast with the Kinect, I really wouldn't recommend buying it just yet. I'd wait for a price drop personally. I say all this, without even having paid for the Kinect I've been playing with. The unit we're using is a borrowed one and we're giving it back on Thursday haha.
  23. Halo: Reach

I'm much more a fan of this channel's take on it. The commentary from the machinima guy in your video just takes away from it IMO. @ipaul, the new map pack... I'll be getting it... but I'm not all that excited about it coming out haha.
  24. Kinect Discussion

I HAD MY FIRST POOR EXPERIENCE! And it wasn't bad really... just not awesome like everything else. That my friends, was Kinect Joy Ride. I'm not a fan of the controlls at all in the game... it is far too loose and then the fact that the game tries to correct itself for you... I dunno. I felt like I was more along for the ride than I was supposed to be driving the car. That being said, the "race" mode was my least favorite. The stunt and trick modes were pretty neat though. I enjoyed those a fair bit.
