  1. Having listened to a lot of the discourse (primarily via the Beastcast & Waypoint Radio podcasts) and having seen the incredibly mixed responses I'm the most fascinated I've very been to play this. Good or bad it looks like this is easily the most fascinating game ever made with a significant budget.

  2. I'm sort of baffled the way EA have promo'd this, literally everything I've heard about it sounds much more interesting than the game EA seems to want us believe it is (a linear action-jumpy game rather than the Star Wars-flavoured Metroid/Dark Souls mix it apparently is?). It's like EA are terrified of giving us anything interesting.

  3. Recently finished my first play through of Blue Lions, after 80 hours I cant play any more of that game and simultaneously desperately want to. I'm afraid to go near my Switch because there's other games I want to play and things I need to do. It does a decent job of creating a world where people have reasons to fight and, after checking a wiki, also hiding the full picture behind the different routes & viewpoints of each faction.

  4. It was a bit all over the place but Aloy's personal journey and her quest to discover her origins was the stuff that really made a connection, even when some of the lore & world building got a little too thick for my tastes. I'd love for more focus on Aloy and the characters she meets in the next game as a driving force.

I've no doubt they're already making a sequel, it's sold way too well, though it'll take years to put a new big open world game together. Bet you my boots they announce a sequel the same day they announce a PS5.

  5. It's legit baffling to me that May isn't whipping/doing more to tell her MPs to vote to take No-Deal off the table even after finally FINALLY admitting out loud what shitstorm no-deal would be - if it isn't ruled out after tonight's vote I might lose my mind.

Difficult to tell if the EU would even grant us an extension without immediately presenting an alternate way forward at this point - revoking Article 50 and starting over could be the only realistic way forward but I can't imagine the PM being that brave or sensible even now that she has nothing left to lose.

  6. Apparently May is going to go "back to Brussles" but I genuinely don't understand what they hope to get without even having an agreed alternative? If I was representing the European Union I wouldn't even bother turning up to the meeting, I'd send the temp just to laugh in their face.

  7. Boring but a hell of a bargain y'all might want to know about - I just grabbed a D-Link EXO "smart" AC router for less than £20 from Ebuyer which is an INSANE price for a router of this spec (like I literally think it might be a mistake) - the same model currently starts at just under £60 at Amazon by comparison.

EDIT: Boo, they noticed their mistake, cancelled the order and quickly set it to "out of stock" - sly devils.

  8. I was wary of it before launch but the extent the loot box system extends through the entire game sounds absurd for a game that isn't free up front, even compared to other examples this year. If it went actually free-to-play a year from now I would not be completely shocked - and it'd be the right thing to do.

  9. Really enjoying this so far, much more than I expected to. The change from an ensemble cast has freed it to change the wider world if needed and it definitely has a spark of old fashioned idealism at it's core, standing at odds with it's darker setting. I just hope any future seasons aren't also set around the war/conflict plot and we can do a little going boldly etc.

  10. I normally find Jim Sterling a little contrarian but I finding it difficult not to be compelled by his arguments on loot boxes, especially from someone who claims to have suffered from gambling addiction. A point I agree with wholeheartedly is rejecting the idea that games need loot box systems AND a full-price tag to recoup their costs. Replacing the entire progression system with them and still charging up front is disingenuous at best and absurdly greedy on a guaranteed-hit franchise game like this.

  12. Based on the beta this may not be the best multi-player game from DICE but it's definitely a good chunk of Star Wars in your face and the star-fighting is good enough (once you change the ridiculous default control options) to make me hope Criterion will get to make an entire starfighter game one day. Still waiting to see what the money-in system relating to the card packs is though. Not a must buy but I wouldn't put myself past treating myself sometime with it either.

  13. Been playing a lot of the 1st one recently and interested in this but hearing about the card-pack/loot box stuff is giving me pause. I thought it would just be things like grenades & special attacks but having stronger heroes with certain rare cards turning up in paid random loot boxes seems over the pail. I'll have to wait until it comes out and we've all gotten a look.

  14. With the Switch proving far more successful than anyone though possible developers are throwing all sorts of things on to it - so much that it's becoming difficult to pick out  what's worth a look and what's not on its e-store. So I thought I'd make a thread specifically to highlight hidden gems and get recommendations from others.

Can anyone recommend me an arcade shooter-type game? There's a few on there like 1945 and a couple of side-scrolling Neo Geo games but I don't know which ones are worth the £5/6 for a quick blast and which aren't.
