  1. Didn't it say "new challenger approaching" when Ikey was revealed? That would lead me to think he's an unlockable one, too.

At the Dojo they write "New Challenger Approaching!" every time they announce a new character (i.e. a character that hasn't been in the original and Melee), so we can't use that to determine who are starters and who are unlockables.

  2. The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You (Theme from Friends)

So no one told you life was gonna be this way

    Your job's a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A.

It's like you're always stuck in second gear

When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year, but ...

    I'll be there for you

When the rain starts to pour

    I'll be there for you

    Like I've been there before

    I'll be there for you

'Cause you're there for me, too

You're still in bed at ten, though work began at eight

You burned your breakfast, so far things are going great

Your mother warned you there'd be days like these

But she didn't tell you when the world has brought you down to your knees, that ...

    I'll be there for you

When the rain starts to pour

    I'll be there for you

    Like I've been there before

    I'll be there for you

'Cause you're there for me, too

No one could ever know me

No one could ever see me

Seems you're the only one who knows

What it's like to be me

Someone to face the day with

Make it through all the mess with

Someone I will always laugh with

Even at my worst I'm best with you, yeah

It's like you're always stuck in second gear

When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year ...

    I'll be there for you

When the rain starts to pour

    I'll be there for you

    Like I've been there before

    I'll be there for you

'Cause you're there for me, too

    I'll be there for you

    I'll be there for you

    I'll be there for you

'Cause you're there for me, too

It's a great song with humorous lyrics, but at the same time they have a very deep meaning: the value of friendship.

  3. so, again you have to press "up" to jump....

You've never had to press "up" to jump. Let me introduce you to my friends the C buttons on the N64 controller and the X and Y buttons on the 'Cube controller.

The replay option is a total surprise, but a good one! :D I'm just worried about the time limit. How do you decide which 3 minutes you want to record? It's not exactly a very long time, now, is it?

  4. But I guess Nintendo is poorly represented as always here in Denmark.

You didn't attend last year's D3, did you? Nintendo had a whole corner of the large hall for themselves, nicely decorated in Wii-style with no less than 20 playable consoles with demos of WarioWare, Twilight Princess and Wii Sports. The atmosphere was joyful and fun. Compare with Sony, who had only about 4 PS3 consoles up and where the atmosphere was shrouded in mystery, almost like some secret lodge like the Free Masons. You only got about 20 minutes of play before you were sent out of the small area and had to get in line and wait for hours again.

Nintendo's Wii area was awarded the best area of the D3 Expo 2006. So I wouldn't say Nintendo is poorly represented here in Denmark. At least not at D3. :)

  5. Great to see another Dane in here. :) D3 is held from the 16th to the 18th November (Friday to Sunday) in Øksnehallen in Copenhagen. Check out http://www.d3expo.dk/ for more information and prices.

And yeah, it's optimistic. But last year (also in fall, I think it was November) both the Wii and PS3 were playable with both the Twilight Princess demo and WarioWare playable (and that was before release of both systems), so I'm still hoping.

Oh, and very cool stage update! I hope it's random and not like Poké Floats.

  6. The hands-on from NintendoWorld is a very interesting read and sounds very promising!

By the way, I'm planning to go to this year's D3 expo here in Denmark in the middle of November (coinciding with the European release of Galaxy). It's the Danish equivalent of E3 (and so brilliantly named hereafter, Danish Electronic Entertainment Expo), and I'm wondering if I dare hope that Brawl will be playable. To be honest, I doubt it, but I wouldn't be a Brawl fan if I wasn't hoping, now, would I?

  7. Yeah i was suprised to hear that his moves weren't too strong, he looks pretty awesome on the videos, I was think he has a good oportunity to be my main, he looks cool, his moves look great and he final smash is quite awesome :D Overall a pretty decent character but i guess we'll just have to wait and when we get our hands on the game.

Totally agree with everything you said. :D

I think I'll go for Pit as well; I like the fact that he can fly, which means he can recover from far away. That is a feature, I really like. In Melee I used Mewtwo because of his jumping and throwing abilities, although some of his air attacks are pretty strong. I hope the same goes with Pit.

He does seem to have amazing flying and thereby recovery skills:

    1) Multiple jumps

    2) Gliding ability

    3) Up B: Wings of Icarus (which looks very effective from the videos)

His Down B protection move (Mirror Shield, if I remember correctly) also sounds very good - I always liked Counter and Reflector, so this might fall into my liking, too - plus he's got a very fast and seemingly powerful projectile attack that can even be controlled (to a degree) and shot upwards. I mean, how cool can this guy be?

Actually, I had another idea for his Final Smash: He turns into Amazing Pit and gets improved flying ability, attack power, and defense. But I've since come to think of it and I've found that it would resemble Sonic's very much, and I think his current Final Smash is also very cool.

  8. I'm definitely going to try Pit first, as Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters was my first ever video game. Besides, his bow/swords-combo is awsome and his moves look cool. Some have pointed out that he doesn't seem to have any decent kill moves, but his moves seem pretty strong to me when looking at the videos.

After him I'm probably going to try Ike, as I like swordsmen (Marth was my favourite in Melee) and his moves also look cool. Meta Knight also has some cool-looking swordsplay, so he's probably third. If Marth's in, I have to give him a try, too.

I'll most likely give everyone a try at one time or another, as everyone seems to have changed a bit from the previous games.

  9. Techniques and misc stuff

    NO:

    Wavedash.

L-cancelling (MY PERSONAL THEORY: l-cancelling was made automatic for the demo, because there are clearly moves with much longer recovery times shown in some of the trailers).

    Double jump cancelling (Peach/Yoshi).

    Yoshi jumping out of shield.

Start as Zamus (couldn't find a button combo).

Light shield (classic controller shoulder buttons are not analog).

Cannot seem to short hop with the Wiimote on its side.

    YES:

    Dash Dance.

Teching (normal, wall, and wall jump).

    DI.

    Smash DI.

Chain grabbing (was CG'd by Pikachu's dthrow [without DIing it] and have heard that Mario can too).

    Crouch cancel.

Grab items in the air with Z.

    Air dodge grapple with Link/Samus.

    MAYBE:

Wavelanding; some characters seem to do something like a waveland at times. Hard to test.

Jump cancel shine. Reports vary. Most people cannot get it to work, but some claim you have to hold B while you press jump for it to work; they claim releasing B makes him start a "turn off shine" animation.

    COOL STUFF:

You will grab the edge during/after most moves even if you're facing the wrong way.

The Edge Hug: HugS discovered this. Walk off the edge and smash the stick towards the stage. You will grab the edge. Faster than WDing off to edge hog. This is called the Edge Hug, of course.

C-stick does tilt attacks if you also hold the regular stick in the same direction. This makes it very hard to CC downsmash with Peach, because holding down to CC and then C-sticking down will do a dtilt, not a dsmash. You can do all tilts using this method.

Fox can short hop triple laser. But his lasers do not go very far; they disappear after a distance that is about the length of the hole that appears in Bridge of Eldin.

Pretty much all this, in particular the abbreviations and the techniques mentioned.

    EDIT: Highlighted the specific details.

  10. Cool news, Dante, but cut down on the abbreviations, will ya? I got most of it, but some I missed, for instance DI and CG. Some of the techniques I don't know either, for instance wavelanding. I've heard about wavedashing, but I never really got the point of it.

By the way, it was announced a long time ago (even before the Dojo was up) that the game was slowed down. And to all complainers, does it really look like on the videos that the game is slowed down? I barely notice it and when I think I do, it might very well be a result of me believing I'm seeing it being slowed down. So no worries here.

  11. It's funny that Nintendo is almost as rich as Sony when you consider the fact that Nintendo only works in the video game industry, whereas Sony works in the much broader media industry.

It's also nice to see that even though Nintendo is making such a huge profit, they still work hard to make their games good - just look at the effort they put into Brawl (the delay is a solid proof that they want to make that game as good as possible).

Yes, I know, we're still being bombarded by casual games of which many are of relatively poor quality, but we have to remember that many of those come from 3rd party devs, who in my mind haven't realized the potential of the Wii yet and still see it as a way to make quick cash with minimal effort.
