  1. I have just pre-ordered Fable for that reason :p

Don't usually bother pre-ordering unless I find a particularly good deal, but a free game is a free game

Gizmo, considering you pre-ordered it today, have you already received your code? As I don't want to lay down a pre-order and then find out that they've stopped giving the codes out.

Pissed off really that they aren't sending these codes to stores and that it's online only it seems.

  2. Wow............I'm slow to notice this thread.

Andrew Loomis books are regarded as some of the best drawing instruction books available. A few professionals I know swear by them, and because the books are part of the public domain now, then they are free to download.

Here is a page which has all 6 of the books for download. I've only recently got hold of them, and not had time to really study them. But from a quick glance through the 'Successful Drawing' book I can tell you that these books really are leagues ahead information wise than anything else, and they still hold up.

The other really good book I recommend is 'The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' by Betty Edwards.

Whether you feel you have little talent and you doubt you could ever learn, or you enjoy drawing, but have not been able to get much beyond a childlike level, this book aims to give you the skill you have always wanted. If you are already drawing as a professional artist or artist-in-training, it aims to give you greater confidence in your ability and deepen your artistic perception. This 20th-anniversary edition of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" has been revised, with more than 50 per cent new material, including: recent developments in brain research that relate to drawing; new insights on the use of drawing techniques in the corporate world; and education instruction on self-expression through drawing; and ways to step beyond black-and-white drawing into colour; and detailed advice on applying the five basic skills of drawing to solve problems.

Has some great little exercises in this book and introduces the reader to perspective, form and progresses your drawing from start to the end of the book.

Buy that here at a great price, and again I've seen it recommended by quite a few pros.

Like a lot of people have already said........it all comes down to practice and perseverance. Life drawing I'd say is definitely the way to go if you really want to improve at drawing. Where I study we are provided with life drawing classes which are optional, and that's been the problem for me personally. This year I hope I really do turn up to more of those life drawing classes, as it really is stupid for me not to bother with them.

Hope those books help a few people in this thread.

  3. Whats the elektroplankton box, whats in it?

Sorry for the slow reply dazzybee, been away this weekend you see.

The Japanese Electroplankton box looks like this, with the outside box having that foil shinyness effect. It also comes with some headphones as well inside the box, but these have unfortunately been used.

Items are still for sale btw. I know there's also been people here looking for Animal Crossing DS at a decent price, so hit me a PM if interested.

  4. Sorry, forgot to talk about condition of items. All my items are near mint, as I try to look after my discs.

Four Swords disc itself is mint with no scratches at all. The outer box has scuffs on the top corners though, but nothing major and I'd still say it's in very good condition itself. The GBA cable is still in its original condition, and hasn't been used.

If anyone else wants a breakdown about a certain item or photos then just ask.

    Hope that helps Tellyn.

  5. Wondering if anyone would be interested in taking these games off my hands. Prices are more of a guide, so you can try to haggle a little............but be prepared for me to shut you down.

  6. Would it allow me to link up with friends in the UK?

Pretty sure it's fine for linking up with anyone in the UK/EU, as I recall playing with a few N-E people when the game launched in Europe. I'm sure someone can confirm here for you anyway.

Hit me a PM if you're interested.

  7. My AVG has been dicking about with the updates lately. It seems to update then at the end it says it couldn't access the update server.

I just installed AVG 8.0 today (installing it over version 7.0), and I'm getting the same error also when I try to update.

Really annoying, as I don't like seeing a red explanation mark on my toolbar.

  8. You've definitely come on leaps and bounds Wes. A hell of a lot faster than me for sure. Good luck with the texturing on that, looking forward to seeing it.

Also great job on the Wallace & Gromit cooker. Just to let you know (entirely optional), but when you do some nice beauty shots you could probably also render out an AO pass at the same time from the same angle of the render, then bring both images into PS and comp them together. Just usually adds that nice look where lack of light hits divots and small cranny's for example.

Here's the final Scream Park trailer that I worked on in the 2nd semester of Yr 2. Unfortunately we won't be uploading the mod and files to be playable in the Crysis game, but we did have playable demo's of it at our Uni's animation film day. Went down quite well in the end, and had a lot of interest in general.

Anyway, all assets, characters and textures in the trailer are created by the team, with the only exception being the ground texturing (CryEngine has an awesome terrain editor you see). Hope you enjoy it.

(dodgy sound at beginning, and Vimeo has made the vid quite desaturated) :(

  9. I've really always loved that Antec case you've posted up. Looks nice and smart. I'd definitely go with it.

Also that power supply is great, I've got the 520W one, which is plenty for a quad core, a few HD's and a 8800GT.

Weirdly enough, the 650W is cheaper than the 520W, so get it for sure.

Forget all that linux and OS bullshit the 'experts' are chatting about. Go with either Windows XP, or Vista 64................if you're using Vista though, make sure you turn off Aero, as it conflicts with Max's UI.

  10. 1764174 - the code they have to type in to order a replacement card. I hate myself for remembering that.

Anywho...yeah they can do it on postcode or surname and partial postcode (eg Harrison, EN) if you have moved.

Shouldn't be giving one away for free with every console purchase, thats more staff trying to ensure figures are kept at a non-moanable level. Get it free if you take out extended warranty though.

You should in indeed be hating yourself for remembering that. haha

And yes, we obviously know that giving them away with hardware purchases isn't really by the book..........but budgets/targets/stock & shares and all that rubbish. :heh:

Kind of been getting fed up with the place to be honest recently.........I think they ask far too much of staff for the £5.55 an hr that they pay us.

  11. Tbh with the amount of money I've gotten through reward points £3 is worth it for the reward card.

Totally. And for whoever above mentioned they had one ages ago........go in and ask them to look it up via your postcode, and then they should be able to send you out a replacement.

Sales assistants should be asking every customer whether they have a reward card when they are making purchases.

If you're buying hardware, and you don't have a loyalty card, then mention is it possible to get one for free 'because you're buying hardware.' We always offer free loyalty cards with console purchases anyway.

  12. Just sessioned the GRID demo on multiplayer........and wow, had so much fun. Gets crazy funny when you just hope you are one of the survivors out of the 1st corner. haha

Tempted to pick up the full game now, although I still need to pick up CoD4 and Bioshock.

  13. Metroid is a shame indeed, but it didn't sold bad, just not what it deserved. I'm sure they still managed to profit.

Contrary to most people here, I have no problem in changing my opinion if you prove me wrong. So if you answer that, instead of dismissing, maybe this could be a normal discussion. And if games must be ported between consoles for it to sell, then there's something wrong (I'm talking about Haze).

I agree, was a total shame it didn't sell better, especially when the controls were pretty much nailed perfectly.

And the Haze issue is true. It'll most likely drop off the charts in a few weeks, but nowadays to chart so high in your first week is deemed a success (especially up there with GTA), but it would of indeed been interesting to see how that certain title charted with releases on other formats also.

Annnnnyway, Beyond Good & Evil 2.

  14. I love the No More Heroes argument, NOTHING Suda51 makes should be used as benchmark.

I should of used Metroid Prime Corruption then.

And what was the last hardcore game that sold well on the other consoles? GTA4 would sell no matter the console, so besides that one? Haze, another Ubisoft hyped game bombed.

There's plenty of software that's selling well on the other consoles, you'd be a fool to even bother to question that. And Haze charted damn high for its first week considering it's only on one format currently.

    Serious-fucking-ly.

    Vgcharts........lol.
