  1. Indeed Dazzy, the passing should have been ALL MINE I TELL YOU. My grandad was playing this with me and just got so entranced with it that he just started to watch the game and forget to randomly "slash". He said it was just like watching a real game. Bless him. He said it was fun, (whilst I made ALL the runs) cheers pops. Family Play is a good step but I agree that the passing should have completely been at the players mercy.

  2. I've yet to win on that DAMN table-football. I get like 4-0 up and Ronaldinho stages some incredible 4-5 turnaround. It is IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have hat BURNING sensation inside as I haven't won since buying the game. It's so unfair and solid!!! Great in multiplayer but the dddaaaaamn computer!! (Rant over!) SOO annoyed

    YESSSS!!!! I BEAT HIM!! (lol)

  3. The game can be a battle in midfield as defenses are extremely good when playing the better teams. I actually prefer playing in the lower leagues! But the passing, shooting mechanic is fluid indeed. There is no slow down and buttons/motions respond instantly. Shooting is, initially hard as it's easy to just slash in the air and forget to hold a direction with the nunchuck. But after that you'll be playing like a pro.

  4. This is more like Pro Evo 3 and 4 but with the whole FIFA licence and an excellent online mode with sharp motion controls added on top. If that sounds like your kind of game, buy, buy, buy!

  5. tbh i dont know if it works at all because Ive saved new squads a few times and when ive put the game on again the players are all back at their old clubs. Maybe someone can help me here. I always save - But players go back.

  6. It's a shame this isn't being heavily reviewed as it's superb. I may sound obsessed with this but I was just so completely caught off guard by it that it has become my favourite game on the Wii - Just edging out The Godfather. This needs to be played by more people.

  7. Remember when it was unveiled? Remember the "Revolution"? How serious it all was! And when we heard the real name out came the guffaws, chortles and sneers from all corners of the globe. Apart from Nintendo, who just plodded on; selling the word that was "wii".

Now it's almost a household name and is on the lips of millions: How do we view the word Wii now?

The initial shock of the word has faded and now it surrounds us. Just like "Google" and "Meebo" and, to some extent "Dyson". Do you now feel embarassed saying the word Wii? Do people know what you're talking about? Do people care about the name? Does this thread make sense....?!

I personaly really like the simplicity of the name. Yet I too was shocked for months. When it was unveiled I really thought the name would be a self-created hurdle by Nintendo. But I really think it's a wonderful name now. And it's a defining name not just in the simplicity of it. But in rebranding a console into something more, well: meaningful and accessible. And I guess that's what Nintendo wanted all along. Not a play "station" or an X "Box" or a Game "cube". Something accessible, friendly-sounding and, just, for anyone.

I'm sure Wii is a name we will all remember when we look back on the industry - For many different reasons.

  8. Recent interview with Reggie @ siliconvalley.com - - About Wii supply and demand:

    Q

What is it about your manufacturing system that doesn't allow you to catch up with demand?

    A

The issue is not a lack of production. The issue is we went in with a curve that was aggressive, but the demand has been substantially more than that. And the ability to ramp up production and to sustain it is not a switch that you flick on. We're working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can't guarantee that we're going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record we won't.

It looks as if Nintendo don't even know what to expect. Expect a rush. Ebay may be a busy place this December...Again...!

  9. I lived abroad in the 80's and when Super Mario Brothers came out for the NES it was a revelation. All the older kids played it as all of us younger kids in the TV shop gathered around it and basked in it's day-glo colours and hypnotic running/jumping combo. It was incredible. All the foreigners were chattering away in Greek in a happy manner and all pointing and "aaaahhhh-ing".

When I finally played it - One morning before school...I was enraptured. The red buttons on the controller and the crip D-Pad fitted perfectly to my motions. I still see past the games graphics when I play it today. It's timeless, simple and pure genius. The limited, blank spaces of sky and grass are vehicles for my imagination - Just like years ago.

And as if to reclaim and hold on that one child-like moment of pure innocent bliss, I've never stopped playing Nintendo since.

  10. I never liked any of the strike series when I was younger. It seemed too "grown up" and when I tried it I always got nailed lol. Picking up a POW who was running across the desert and seeing the little winch come down on Desert Strike was amazing though. Nuclear Strike (or was it Urban Strike!) on the N64 was pretty decent though. EA should bring this back. Could be great to control with the Wii nunchuck/mote combo.

  11. Well, this has been delayed acording to various websites. I'd love it if this was to make the game as good as it can be and to integrate Mii's. Would be nice. But yeah...This is Hudson lol.

  12. In regards to crossing ....As long as you hold down A button whilst doing a quick "slash" of the wiimote it should be fine. After doing the training modes I find the set-pieces to be brilliant!

    Also, about the lag online:

I've had no problems since accepting games with connection qualities of 4/5 bars. I think (fingers crossed) it is ok now :D

  13. Indeed Strikers had a turbulent few launch days.

I've found the answer!! I went into a lobby and looked at the connection quality. Now it plays like a d-ream! Perfect. And I can add buddies and play them again and bitch lyrical and talk 'the slap!'. Wow! Blown away by this :)

I'm beginning to think this is AGAIN one of those 'suprise! I'm a good-game' on the Wii. (Ala Excitetruck and The Godfather.)

If anyone wants to add me on EANation I'm 'Tapedeck' - Obviously ;)

I figured it out. A good whipped cross in, when you're in the crossing zone if you flick the wiimote up (to hoof it or shoot normally) then it puts in a good cross in. Im so pleased about this!

Thanks Dazzy, I tried this online, shot from deep right and it took a wicked deflection and went in. Back of the net!!! :D

  14. I love this game offline and it's even disloged my HEAVILY patched PC pro-evo 6 as my fav footy game!

    BUT....

I'm yet to win a game online and it's frustrating. I get the most obscene amount of lag at times and I press pass and it passes a second or two later...Therefore.....

I can't win online as I'm playing like a conference team. Annoying. I've got wireless internet and my room is upstairs so the signal isn't exactly the strongest but I have no problems on the DS and Mario Strikers plays fine. I'm wondernig is it just FIFA or do I need to use a LAN cable?

  15. The N64 controller was great at the time. The way games like Lylat Wars, Goldeneye, Mario Kart worked around the controller was great. I liked those games where you could just use Z button and the analogue. (Like in Wave Race). Reminds me of the Wii nunchuck. Nice.

  16. We all remember the launch of Wii last year and the sheer panic it brought as demand (unexpectedly) outstripped supply. The Wii became the hottest item of Christmas 2006 and that trend has continued until this very day.

With Nintendo recently noting that demand is still extremely high do you think that Wii will be the hottest item this christmas?

There are top, top titles coming for all three major consoles this christmas yet now the Wii has had that traditional year of "maturing" behind it we see a huge back catalogue of classic games and an array of interesting channels available - Almost out of the box. And the price of the system is still the lowest in the console market.

I personally think that Wii will (yet again) be the success story this christmas and I think this christmas will see Wii sold out signs all over the UK unless Nintendo have started to increase production already.

Do you think christmas will put the Wii in the mindset of millions more?

Or do you feel that Wii sales this year will tell a different story?

  17. Some further impresions/views having bought the game today:

    INITIALLY:

It all started out a little poor as there is no fancy FMV intro and when I went to see what songs are in the game I couldn't find any option to this (as you may well know, previous FIFA offerings have enabled song selection). I figured this would be hidden deep within the game.

    FOOTII PARTY:

I started with the Footii Party mode with my fiance. We played them all a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed them. The graphics were very "wii sports" and the music, sound effects were thoroughly fitting and polished. Table football was a riot but they were all good in their own way. I particularkly enjoyed the "BOOT IT" game as it reminded me of SM:TV's Penalty kicks. (indeed). We had a good laugh with those and the calorie counter and medals made it competitive.

So far it was very suprising how good this was. Refreshing.

    THE MAIN GAME:

I begged my fiance to try the main game and try the "family mode". I awaited the pitch intro scenes to gauge the graphical quality. I was very impressed. Screenshots don't do the game justice. It's like a high-res version of the previous GC versions with all the graphical inconsistencies (like clipping) ironed out. Very smooth. (The depth blur is beautiful too).

We were both lost initially. It was NAILS and not controlling the players direction felt alien to both of us.

Later I played the tutorials and got used to the feel of the controls and the play mechanics. Now I'm loving it. It's very much like pro evo. Ball physics are great and the game is structured around passing! I also like how you can use A to pass, hold A and swipe in a direction of a player or even use the D-Pad directions...all just to pass. Brilliant. The motion controls are great. Throw-ins, corners, free kicks, shooting all have a freshness to them. And they work!

    ONLINE:

The online mode wasn't too bad neither. After registering (effortlessly) and finding my way around I played a ranked game (similar to Mario Strikers) and it was (for the most part) lag free. Beaten by Barcelona 2-0. But enjoyable. Slight lag at the end of the first half but nothing extreme. The menu's are swish and the loading isn't too bad at all. The botom of the pages also have LIVE! real-world updates of premiership news. Which is fabulous.

    GRAPHICS:

I went back to the free play and played and played and it dawned on me that this is fabulous. In the replays the graphics are superb up close and during penalties it looks amazing. Near enough to the first FIFA on the 360. Very impressive. Pro Evo has its work cut out.

    GRIPES:

I'm a music whore and want to select the tunes I hear on the menus...No chance. It's NOT to be found ANYWHERE! After about 4hrs play I heard Travis' last song and other songs I love. There should be some way to disable the crap latino songs on there...oh well.

The worst thing with the whole game (which is praise too) is that the replays at half-time and full-time are eerily silent. No music nor sound effects AT ALL. Just silence. I wonder....Is it just my game? - As this doesn't seem right at all.

Overall I'm blown away by this. Way better than I thought it would be. Let the good times roll online and off. :D

    A screen from the replays...It's from the Wii...Honest :D

  18. FIFA VS Pro Evo scores aren't even worth noting anymore because it seems people are tiring of Pro Evo because it only has MINOR updates every year whereas FIFA is working doubly-hard to catch up to Pro Evo's standards. So FIFA gets higher marks yet Pro Evo remains stagnant. (That's my take on it anyhoo).

Pro Evo is still miles ahead of FIFA in the gameplay department but I'm really looking forward to this years FIFA Wii offering due to new features and the fact that the players look like they actually have necks...The "last gen" models could be REALLY hideous! They looked like Quasimodo at times. I don't think it was a good idea to mo-cap all players using Peter Beardsley (The legend that is).

  19. well done zechs!

    And PATCH!

Well done. Advance Wars was also correct. It was for the N64 (unreleased) and was meant to link to the GB version allowing constant play on the go and at home. Unreleased N64 game two was also Catroots. Which looked AWESOME!!
