  1. Err... Would you buy a bowling game? I mean, at full price, where that's the only sport included? I wouldn't. Dito for competitive swimming, that's included in basically game based on the Olympics.

And the fact stands: a Pingpong set costs little over twice as much as that game does. And Pingpong tables dont take much place at all, since they're foldable!

But you're missing the point I was trying to make about these types of games.

In a way the industry hasn't really made a point of making these "niche" types of games in great depth because they are what I would refer to as 'specialist'.

    Imagine if you will:

Wii Bowling is extremely popular and is indeed part of a package. If it was released on it's own it would still have done well. But sales would have been totally price dependant. if Wii Sports Bowling stood on its own and sold for £20 it would maybe have sold incredibly well. But it's maybe impossible to say due to this being fiction and not fact. If Wii Bowling included a massive tournament mode including unlockable lanes, bowling balls and bowling shoes it would (in a gamers mind) be "worth" the cash. And the same would apply to swimming/bowls/croquet/crazy golf games. (Potentially ALL suited to Wii).

You state that you wouldn't. Which is fair enough, and you state that the industry puts these types of games into "collections". Which is the single most annoying factor (and neive) basis in the industry. (To me).

For instance, I love competitive swimming and would love an in-depth game based on this. Yet in a 30yr business model we've seen nothing of great credence to the sport. This is the problem with gaming. We see thousands of FPS games because they sell. but why do they sell? Because it's standard? Expected? Because the "model" works. Let's shake the standards up and take risks. Only then will gamers widen their eyes to something a little new. Forever Blue is another step in this direction. Not everyone can scuba dive but many want to.

I don't mean to rant. I just think that many games are made with a neivety and gaming will never acheive similarity to movies/books if it is forever locked in the mindset of its current genres.

  2. Ping Pong is massive in the east. And generates massive media coverage over there. It was also a hugely successful sport in the 60's/70's in America (like Bowling was in the 1950's) so I'm sure it's just a modern day mind-set that makes people think it's a crap idea for a videogame. There are many people still play ping-pong and it's a great sport with concentration being of utmost importance at all times. The rules are relatively simple with the basis of winning all down to the players skill/ability to dictate the ball spin. A good basis for a videogame if you ask me. Infact, if you read the bold statement above, it could sound like bowling..and people don't think that's a crap idea for a videogame.

There should be more games based on sports which people perceive to be "crap". I'm talking squash, badminton, bowls, competitive swimming, volleyball, (cricket!) hockey etc... And the Wii is a perfect fit for these games. (When will we get an ice hockey game??...It seems like a perfect fit for the Wii).

  3. It would obviously be financially sound to bring this game to the Wii. (The mini games like smashing up car/wall could also take on some sort of Wii Sports Boxing alike adding a freshness). There are opportunities on Wii and Capcom are a very shrewd business with extremely close ties to Nintendo.

Street Fighter's gameplay hasn't aged at all in my opinion and any version would suffice. 2D was always my favourite plane for Street Fighter. So here's hoping it comes to Wii. It is still a franchise with immense pulling power so if the Wii was to receive any version I'd be happy. I wonder if the recent Monster Hunter 3 console shift is any indication as to where Capcom see their business focuse. Past relations don't matter, Nintendo (and Capcom) are completely different companies sitting in a very different landscape to 5/7 yrs ago.

  4. It's possibly too early to tell...

With the Wii being a huge success and Nintendo repairing old 3rd party wounds - time will reveal all. With many developers becoming third party due to higher development costs, we will probably see more variation in software on a Nintendo home console since the early 1990's. I don't think that Wii itself is wasted potential. I think the developers are wasting their own creative potential by limiting their imaginations in the face of cold harsh cash. But that will always occur. (Business sense).

Maybe Wii ware will change this "potential" factor. Then you can go free wheeling around the sitting room.

    P.S

If you bought a Nintendo console in hope that everything will come along as you predict/hope you own the wrong machine. But within that notion lies half the excitment buddy.

  5. With Perrin Kaplans recent refrigerator comments, I really don't think we will see a solution in the near future. And coupled with the fact that Wii is still outselling Wispas (Honest!!) I really don't think Nintendo will add bits and pieces of hardware (yet). I do however think that we will see some sort of Wii-box enabling users to store VC games on it. This will, again probably only work with an initially selected console. But definately, in the future I think we will see a means to save our games more efficiently. Remember, Nintendo have an extremely strict policy over piracy and their ip's.

I really think that this whole debate hangs on both the sales of the Wii alongside the sales of the Virtual Console.

  6. DARKSNOWMAN:

Kinda off-topic. but have to say. I adore the DKC games and I instantly knew them all. But even by those crops it's so apparent how much difference in direction the three games took. DKC looks amazing still. But with their more cartoony styles - 2 and 3 (to me) just don't have that same grab as DKC1 did. Maybe it's just me and kinda off topic I know. Just always bugged me lol. Look how good those snowy trees are though :)

  7. Maybe yeah. I liked the "compact" design of him in Sonic Adventure 2.

He just looks HUGE in this. I always thought he was smaller. He stands as bulky as Link in the video.

I personally just think he is perhaps a little too big.

Note the comparisons from the original design...He now looks a little too "human" They've practically tried to shoehorn the Sonic universe into real-life. Bring back Mobius :(

I'd love to see Sonic's stage set in Mobius: Green Hill Zone perhaps, but knowing SEGA it will be set in a boring, generic metropolis.

  8. Is it just me or is the Sonic character model completely different to existing Sonic models?

He looks totally different to the Adventure model/Secret Rings/Olympics models.

He looks snide. Infact Sonic looks awful. There I said it. I'm blown away by the inclusion of Sonic. And if advertised correctly this could be a HUGE benefit to the game (if they go for the whole Sonic Vs Mario tagline). But with that character model I was slightly let down. Still, he's in! He just looks awkward.

  9. This scares me! It's like looking at a tactics board. I'm sure Wii games are meant to be more accessible. This looks UTTERLY comfusing. I'm sure I'll try it as the proof may be in the pudding. But a demo or a rental will probably be the route I take. (Unless reviews are all praiseworthy).

It begs the question about games looking more and more realistic (especially football games). A hundred yellow lines and dots on screen doesn't look realistic nor fun to those watching. And won't the person your playing against see where your passes/shots/crosses will go if your pointing? And won't my wrist be in tatters if I have to point for ages?

So many questions...I hope Konami answer them all with a brilliantly fresh game.

  10. I'm not sure what I make of "In Rainbows" so far neither. In regards to it being laid back I must admit I was expecting a "myxomatosis-alike" thrashed out track...But it never came.

I love 'Nude' for it's pop-like sensibilities and accessibility in comparison to the other tracks on the album. But as a long-time listener of Radiohead, I know that's not where their true genius lies. I'm loving wierd little fishes/Apreggi too as it contains some of Thoms more surreal and likeable lyrics. And the way it builds paints more pictures in my minds eye than any track I've heard since Hail to the Thief.

(Although The Eraser was pretty surreal).

I'm confident that the album will only get better with more listens. I can't wait for it to "click" after the 50th listen. As per all Radiohead albums- (Apart from maybe, The Bends)!

Anyhow, pretty good so far. :) Soooo exciting it's actually available. And the whole download instance makes it seem surreal that I've got it. Makes it feel like I'm privy to a special club.

Oh and my favourite Radiohead song is The Trickster from the My Iron Lung EP. But I also adore Motion Picture Soundtrack...There are so many favourites I could make a list. Best band ever in my eyes. (Gushing)

  11. No, I cannot see anything for this in the instruction booklet. What games currently offer this mode as Pro Evo doesn't (as you stated). How is it better? Isn't it harder to play a pass into space thus hoping a CPU character (before you take manual control) takes you towards the ball? it sounds difficult. I know it can work for long balls but for short passing in the midfield isn't direction passing better?

I'm sure if you hold A longer (ala PES) it plays to the further away player. isn't that similar to gauging the power yourself??

I'm interested, reply in good time :)

  12. For the passing you can place it like pro evo in the fact that you can have a manual pass (as in press A) and a searching pass (hold A and swipe in direction or press the D-Pad).

I'm pretty sure that if you just swing to shoot it's just straight infront of you, but if you hold a direction it's in that direction.

If you swipe downwards it's a finesse (placed) shot with less power and upwards is a generic more-powerful shot.

Either way there is plenty of choice. And I agree. It plays like ISS98. For some reason it also makes me think this is what ISS2 on the GC should have been like. It's very precise and intense. And in multiplayer it can be a riot. Brilliantly unexpected :)

  13. Here's a couple of simple ones if your REALLY poor (like me).

    PIZZA TOAST: (snide)

    BREAD

    TOMATO KETCHUP/PASTE

    CHEESE

Put your bread in the toaster and toast it.

When it's done spread tomato sauce on the toast (ala buttering the toast) and then sprinkle cheese on top. Put it in the grill and the cheese melts into the tomato sauce.

Eat your cheap-ass pizza! (Use tomato paste if you don't like your ketchup strong.)

Add mushroom/onion/garlic/salt/Pepper if you wanna make it taste like M&S.

    SPANISH TOAST: (Freakin' GORGEOUS!!)

    Ingredients:

    BREAD

    GARLIC

    OLIVE-OIL

    TOMATOES

    CHEESE

    HAM

Toast your bread. Take a clove of garlic and rub it over the bread (more = strong garlic-ness)! Drizzle olive oil on toast. Add sliced ham/tomatoes/cheese onto the toast. Trust me...It's gorgeous. And girls seem to LOVE it :)

  14. First of all I feel for you bud, i went through something similar. I kept out of the way for awhile but like a bad stench they just come back. People will probably bitch about this but the best thing to do is really: Tell a teacher.

Tell them what you've told us on here and say you're just a little concerned and "frightened". Just say you want them to keep an eye on it and make sure it's documented. If it continues go back to the same teacher and say it hasn't stopped. They should have it all documented if you asked them too. If there is paperwork (documented history) you can get pretty much sort anything out there and then. I'm sure the hassle the dude will get from this will mean he backs off and goes and bothers someone else/sorts himself out.

If he doesn't change the teachers will see this. And remember: He will be living from the dumpsters trying to feed his drug addiction whilst you'll be a better person. Just get your head down and get your work done regardless. I'm sure some fit girl in your class will have the same notes you need. Bonus!
