  1. Hi all, good to see you all playing this game. Between this and Dreams on the PS4, I’m in creator heaven!

I've made tons of stages and really enjoyed many of your levels on WiiU. Hopefully Nintendo release a friend patch soon so I can play more. I’ll check out some of these and post some of my level codes soon!

Add me to the list of those dying for Waverace!

They could make it feel so good with the HD Rumble!

I was playing the shindou edition on N64 the other night. It’s insane how that game is taken up a notch more with rumble. How they got the rumble so perfect back in 1996 still blows my mind. EAD are wizards. (I wish there was an English Shindou translation/patch - there was years ago but it’s lost to the web now!)

Anyway... LABO: With the Amazon BIGTHANKS £10 off a £50 shop code I caved and bought it. Thinking I can use it at work for STEM activities too!

  3. Can’t wait to see more of the actual games on this. It’s got that typical Nintendo premium price on it and it’s an easy target. Colour me intrigued but I feel Nintendo’s 2017 success shows that all they really need to do is release good games on Switch to appeal to the masses.

I admit... I just want a new Wave Race...

  4. If Pokemon hits Switch in 2018 that would be some development speed and subsequent pay-off in hardware. Massive if they can do it.

Having delivered BoTW and Odyssey, I anticipate a flood of B-tier licenses from Nintendo in 2018. Kirby and Yoshi already point to this and I think we’ll see Pikmin 4 and Animal Crossing at the end of the year.

I do think we’ll see something from Next Level Games and Retro in 2018. I’d guess Luigi’s Mansion 3 from NLG and I’d love a 3D DKC from Retro.

I really hope we see more Deluxe versions of WiiU games. Super Mario 3D world is a great fit for  Switch as is Wii Sports. Ad-Hoc bowling/tennis competitions? Sign me up!

  5. Have enjoyed reading everyone’s impressions of this. So much so that I picked this up a couple of weeks ago.

I’m now on to the final world and have really enjoyed it. Definitely wanting it to end due to the repetitive nature of the gameplay though - explore/fight/repeat.

They could have done some neat 2D sections ala Odyssey - including 2D battles. Maybe it’s because RTS games usually aren’t my thing, but I do appreciate how it mixes strategy with platforming to innovative effect.

Either way, the game looks stunning, the humour is pretty good and the battle elements are well executed. The added two player mode is great fun too!

  6. Here are my top three! Enjoy :)

    1st: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo have always had the nack of creating believable, atmospheric worlds but this is their zenith. Mixing their 3D Zelda template with the delicate nature found in Animal Crossing and a ton of Skyrim; the world of Hyrule was the real story.

The best thing about the game is how it empowers you. Finally they went back to the pure, original vision for a Zelda game and gamers fell in love with Nintendo all over again.

    2nd: Mario Odyssey

‘Mr Videogame’ returned with his latest batch of pure kiddie cocaine. The majesty of the music, the wonder of each new world, the developed 3D move-set, Cappy and the capture mechanics...the fresh story with THAT superb ending and post-game content. Odyssey was everything I wanted and more.

    3rd: Sonic Mania

If you’d have told me in the 90’s that in 2017 I’d be making my way through a re-tooled and rejuvenated 16-Bit Sonic game (on Nintendo hardware!) I’d have choked on my Pop-tarts!

Mania was just that. Giving me the childhood mania for Sonic all over again. Whitehead et al. are preservation Gods and SEGA finally cut them loose. Radical indeed (in the 90’s sense)!

  7. The system itself was a huge surprise. It felt like a premium device coming from the WiiU and 3DS. The display was vibrant and crisp and the volume output was actually audible! A slick, sensible OS made me realise they had learned from the WiiU OS.

    BoTW and Super Mario Odyssey:

Once again proving that “backs against the wall Nintendo” is still incredible. When they bring their A-game, they remain peerless. Both games proved that Nintendo still have the magic that has existed since Mario and Link’s first outings. Surprising, delightful and with so much polish you’d think Nintendo had hired Mr. Sheen himself; (or they had been finished for a while!) both games were astounding. For me they also came at a time when I felt the world needed more colour, imagination and fun!

What a year for Nintendo fans. And that’s without mentioning the pure bliss that was the SNES Mini with Star Fox 2.

  8. WIll pick up Mantis when it’s £10 and Worms when it’s £10-15. Willing to wait and think they are a bout £5 too much at the moment. ‘Annoyingly’ WORMS was PS+ free game this month which made me more inclined to miss the Switch version for now. Really tempted by mantis but it could do with more backdrops.

would love a good racer outside of Mario Kart on Switch but won’t pay £40 for Gear.Club or the £32 for Snow Moto/Aqua Moto which are £15 games at best.

  9. Very impressed with the game. When you emerge from the opening section into the world it looks incredible for a handheld experience. Obviously BoTW has this beaten for control but the world is so intoxicating and deep. Only played to the first major town on PS3 so cannot wait to dig deeper with this.

So many games...not enough hours in the day!

  10. So many games. Must resist buying them all at launch!

It’s incredible how many devs are throwing titles at Switch. Every week seems to have new announcements.

Especially coming from the WiiU, Nintendo have done a LOT right behind the scenes and it is paying off so far. Let’s just hope there are more day and date 3rd party releases in 2018 and devs don’t just crank out ports.

Either way the system is a dream for fitting into my lifestyle with work/responsibilities and all these games are fantastic. I tend not to post as much these days (now married/house owner/more responsibility at work); but it’s great to see Nintendo back and being appreciated in the industry.

BoTW and Odyssey also prove they are still pioneering developers in the industry. (Faith restored!)

  11. Those games last night were superb. Pure, gripping entertainment. Great, simple party chat/invite system as well.

Still not mastered the physics/timing of this yet and I imagine it will take time. At the moment I’m like a dog chasing a balloon!

  12. Saw this for £25 today in Grainger Games. Imagine that by the time the Switch edition launches it will be £15-20 on PS4. I'll probably pick it up when it hits a similar price on Switch. I do love the look of it but it's definitely a B-Tier game that I'm happy to pay £15-20 for.

  13. I remember being hyped over that announcement only to be left feeling salty as all my PS2-loving friends rubbed it in when they slipped on to the PS2. Sad thing was that none of them bought any of the games other than Resi 4! I'd love VJoe to appear in Smash. :)

  14. Yeah, that CAPCOM comment is bizarre. In the pursuit of westernising their franchises and not really seeing fantastic sales, I am surprised they didn't at least hit Switch hard with more ports ala Revelations 1/2.

Considering they had access to prototype hardware and asked for the extra RAM, not being there day one was incredibly short-sighted and bizarre.

Unfortunately many of the Japanese powerhouse developers seem lost in translation - forgetting what made them fantastic in the first place. I was delighted to see Bomberman on Switch and with such sales expected more Konami buy-in and  recognition that the good old-fashioned mascot games like Mega Man would suit the Nintendo eco-system.

Due to the GCN exclusives that never appeared (wasn't it meant to be 5 games?!) and the WiiU bomba maybe there is history?

I bought USF2 and want this system to boom and the games to follow. Maybe when there are enough units in Japan, developers such as CAPCOM and NAMCO etc. will start putting a few more big hitters on the system (and might own one and see how cool it is!)

if that doesn't happen, I'll just presume money-hatting is the answer to it all...

  15. I'm adoring this. Just a great way to play SF2 on the go! Took it to the annual games convention I run the other day and won the final! It was very close but was enjoyed by so many folk! I've definitely sold a ton of switches based on this year's event as well!

If anyone wants to watch the final it starts at 30seconds and we're then interviewed at 10:30. I'm on the right of the screen in the interview and mained Ken throughout the tourney!

  16. Anyone else tempted by the HD N64 mod? I'm on a waiting list but who knows when the next batch will land and how long the list is.

I've got an RGB French N64 but can't resist trying to get the perfect image for the system. I can't fit a PVM/BVM in the house so the HD mod seems perfect. Just need to track down a translated Shindou edition of Wave Race and IPS patch it to a genuine cart and my life will be complete. :)

  17. Konami ignored Wii U with PES and now they ignore the switch. Truly depressing

Yeah kinda gutted about this. Had been asking Bhatti on twitter to no avail so kinda expected it. Sad as a few twitter fans were saying how great a platform match it would be (roaming MyClub FTW!).

With Nintendo's Bomberman good-will partnership it could have been a great start to new games. I guess that Mystical Ninja N64 port dream I have will never happen...

I'd expect PES 2019 if Switch continues to sell. Even the 3DS got a few versions until it stopped selling. Who knows, maybe Konami know it doesn't sell in the portable market...

Speaking of 3rd party...I REALLY hope the STEEP port isn't dead. I loved it on PS4 but stopped playing it hoping to get back into it on Switch. Come on Ubi!

  18. There's a lot of negative feedback about its shocking frame rate. How you finding it?

There are certainly frame drops when things get chaotic. Especially in later levels. The developer has indicated that they are prioritising a patch which is certainly welcome. However, the game has a fantastic sense of pace and action via cohesive physics and the shift mechanic which combine to make it a great blast - even with the occasional chug. Music is great too. Very Matrix lobby-scene.

@Nicktendo I've not played Hotline Miami, so cannot compare. Taken on its own merits, it's a great little action game that is very addictive and encourages replays through timed runs.
