  1. Bought mine on eBay last week and paid about £23.99 for it new. I bought from a seller called 'retrogameonline' and the service was excellent. The cheapest for a new Wavebird on eBay seems to be £22.50 at the moment.

It's kind of annoying as a colleague got one from Amazon a few weeks back for £17.99 but it doesn't look like they are getting any more in now.

  2. Why is it so fun to travel from Peak 3 to the bottom of Peak 1?

Isn't it? When I first found out that it was 3 peaks that formed one big slope I wasn't sure I'd enjoy that as much as having completely different slopes as in SSX Tricky. However, there's still plenty of variety and it's great to be able to do one really long run just carving up the snow and getting collectables.

It's as if they're annoyed by the whole Wii thing in general and don't WANT it to work.

I think that about sums it up. Thing is, gaming, like other media is evolving so it was inevitable that it would develop in new ways. I think the concept of button mashing and the regurgitating of the same old franchises was really starting to become tired and the industry was ripe for change. There will always be people who don't like change though and try to fob it off as a fad or a novelty that won't stand the test of time. They'll come round eventually though as the future of the gaming industry lies in diversifying and expanding the market. Nintendo is pushing the boundaries of gaming and I really admire a company that is willing to stick it's neck on the line for a radical new vision.

  3. I agree with Lens that the ubers are much better with the remote than they ever were with the buttons. I enjoyed SSX Tricky but I could never remember any of the combinations so just ended up randomly pressing buttons and hoping for the best. The thing with the remote is that all you need to do is remember a shape and perform it accurately. It's so much more intuitive.

I've been on peak 3 for a while but only just completed my first tournament because I was having so much fun just cruising down the slopes collecting all the tokens. I've got many of the ones that are in obvious places so I'm now trying out different routes and tricks to try and pick up the harder ones. I've still not managed to unlock any of the ubers after the 'heart-shaped' one - it's really hard collecting a whole set!

With all the different types of events and tournaments to try - freestyle, big air, half pipe, rage, slalom, challenges, token collecting - there's enough to keep you going for months. The variety means there is something for everyone - I love the halfpipe but can't stand the slalom for instance. It's also a game that you can play for 20 minutes or a few hours and it can be as intense or chilled out as you want it to be.

I can't rate this game highly enough.

  4. Do the add-ons really make it worthwhile buying this if you've already played it on another console? I'm tempted because the controls sound so good but I don't want to just be playing exactly the same game I played six months ago. What are the add-on missions like? I want to know if it's worth me buying or if I should just wait for Scarface, which I've never played.

  5. ONM are offering a free 1gb SD card with new subscriptions. May be worth thinking about if you don't already subscribe.

SSX Blur is lots of fun - I'd definitely recommend it.

  6. I'm definitely finding peak 2 a lot harder but still liking it. I think the key to enjoying this game is to savour the experience, rather than striving to complete it within a couple of weeks. The whole way the game is set up is about exploration so I'm not getting too frustrated that I'm not moving onto peak 3. There are heaps of collectables and things to unlock so I still feel like I'm making progress.

  7. Kororinpa isn't a particularly long game. If you rented it for a week you could complete it in that time and then you won't need to buy it. I really wouldn't bother buying SMB, It was okay for the drought period but there are better games starting to come out now so I'd spend your money elsewhere.

  8. Definitely get Kororinpa - the controls are much better. The whole game is just more sophisticated. The first levels are too easy but you'll need lots of skill for some of the later ones.

  9. There's a new independent games shop opened up near where I work so just went down and got myself a copy of Sonic.

I'll wait and see what you guys think of MOH and Eledees when they come out and then make a decision on whether to buy.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

  10. well maybe putting spmething else is a bad idea.

I did wonder that, but my reasons for keeping it seemed to make sense at the time :). I wanted to keep the options more open and allow for other suggestions.

No-one has been very positive about Eledees so far. I think this may be a 'wait and see' one. I'm edging towards Sonic - I've always had a soft spot for him, maybe something to do with us sharing similar haircuts!

My reticence about MOH is probably due to the fact that I probably like the 'idea' of WWII games more than the actual gameplay. My decision on this may well come down to the difference that the Wii controls have on the experience.

I've not read much about Mortal Combat - is it coming out next month?

Thirtynine - I've got SSX and agree it's a great game.

  11. I completed around 65% of this game but then got bored. It gets a bit samey after a while. I can't decide whether to complete it or to give it to my sister who is too skint to buy any games at the mo. As more decent Wii games are coming out I may decide on the charitable option and give it to my sis.

  12. Anyone got any good tips on the slalom tournament on Peak 1? I can't improve on 4th place and need to hit a much quicker time to progress. I start off fine as the first bit is quite easy but then you go over a slight bump and the flags are space further apart. It all comes undone here as my momentum means it's hard to pull back. I try tilting the remote backwards, which slows me down but often not enough and I still miss the flag. I then pile on loads of extra seconds for missed gates leaving me in fourth place.

I really want to progress as the slalom event is tedious and I'd prefer to spend my time racing and doing tricks!

  13. As Cozm1c suggests, you definitely need to keep the remote flat in order to get the ubertricks to work. Even a slight tilt of the controller can prevent it working.

I'm still on peak one but am really enjoying this game a lot. I'm taking time to learn all the tricks and improve my skill levels etc. I'm not very good at the slalom bit of the second tournament but working on my technique.

  14. Really hope there's some truth in this. Katamari was the only game on PS2 I could get my other half to play, so it's perfect for a console with such a diverse reach.

Katamari would work really well with the Wii controls - please let this happen.
