  1. I'm a bit late on this one, but I just wanted to say that I think Invisible Inc. is a fantastic game. I played the heck out of it on Steam and was following it from early access all the way through. Hopefully it's a good port as you need to be able to view the rooms easily from different angles to figure out your next move. It's very satisfying when you complete a mission, having agonised over the right strategy. The first few levels are fairly easy and you do get a couple of chances in the game to rewind a turn, which can be helpful when make a move only to get that gut-wrenching feeling when you realise you've made a complete hash of it and are about to get shot.

  2. That looked great until I saw that Bose doesn't support aptX so there may be substantial lag. I have Bose QuietComfort 35 IIs so may hold fire until there are more reviews of people using it with Bose headphones. For now, I'll just keep the cable in my Switch case for when I want sound.

  3. Merry Christmas N-Europers! Hope you've all had a great day. My partner and I are at my parents with extended family visiting on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Being with my niece and nephew all day was fun but exhausting (I don't have kids). I got no gaming-related gifts but we got a Le Creuset casserole dish from my mum and dad (rock and roll, but then I am in my 40s and love cooking).

  4. I tried the demo at the weekend and it seems pretty decent so I'll no doubt buy it. The trial exercises are a bit basic, so hopefully the full version will have more challenging combos that give you a proper workout. It's essentially Wii Fit style boxing with the usual calendar and fitness tracker tools. I think it will do the job nicely but isn't pushing any boundaries. Yes, you can game the system with small joy-con movements, but the only person you'd be cheating is yourself and more importantly your body ;). Playing this makes me realise how much I miss Wii Sports.

  5. I found that connecting to 5GHz made a huge difference. I can only use the 5GHz in the room where my router is (fortunately in the front room where my Switch is also), but I was getting terrible performance on 2.4GHz when playing Arena of Valor, which was massively improved when I switched bands. I'd go ethernet but I've run out of sockets on my router so would be plugging and unplugging all the time.

  6. I do some boxing training IRL, so I'm up for a bit of extra exercise in between classes. I've downloaded the demo but have a bad back right now so can't try it yet. Thanks for the info on the game functions. I'm pleased to see that it's not over-complicated. "Boxercise" type classes are very simple - mostly throwing high punches, jabs, crosses, hooks and uppercuts in a combo to music. We also use knees, elbows and kicks but I'm guessing the game only covers regular boxing, not kick boxing.

Diablo 3 is currently £27.99 on Amazon. Cracking price for a game that has just been released.

Must have been a flash sale as it's back up to £41.99 now. Shame as I'm in the market for this but not at full price. Not that I need any more games at the moment as I'm playing about 5 right now and have Civ VI arriving today.

  8. Raking up an old thread, but as I'm a fairly new Switch owner I'm in the market for deals on the back catalogue. Argos has LA Noire for £17.99 at the moment, which seems a good price. I've seen it for much more elsewhere (including in the eShop) and as I already played it on PS3 I wasn't prepared to pay above £20 for it. Should be good for a second play through at that price though. They are selling Lego City Undercover £20 too. I never completed it on WiiU so I might be up for a second go at that as well.

  9. I also haven't posted on here in years. I haven't used the forum much since the Wii days but do pop back from time to time to see what's going on here. I only bought a Switch a couple of weeks back so have lots of Nintendo goodness to catch up on. It's taken me a while to prioritise getting a Switch over other pulls on my disposable income, but I work away for a couple of days a fortnight and being able to take it with me to play when I'm on my own in my Airbnb was the clincher.

I find the decline of the online forum quite depressing. I was a member (and moderator) of a forum for my local area for years through the 00s. This year, I went to the wedding of a friend I made through that forum and this weekend, I'm going to the 60th birthday party of the partner of another friend I made through it. Now everyone on the forum has migrated to a Facebook group and it's just not the same. Conversations are fragmented and people post the same questions over and over again because there's no coherent thread layout and it's hard to search the archive. It's even more full of trolls than the online forum ever was. I was also a member of a forum for guitarists. I went on a weekend away with them one year - they still do an annual trip, but lifestyle changes mean I struggle to service all my hobbies (as some posters above have found too). Traditional forums are great and I find it hard to think of good things to say about the likes of Twitter and Facebook to be honest. However, times change I guess.

Maybe now I've got a new Nintendo console I'll post a bit more often :).

  10. Got fed up of waiting for Game to dispatch the order I placed yesterday, so I cancelled. We have an Argos over the road from my office so me and a colleague nipped over and got one apiece. Bit annoying paying the extra fiver, but at least I can play it tonight. To be honest, I wasn't that fussed for this game until I saw the video, but was hooked after that. This and Smash Bros have inspired me to dust off my Wii U.

  11. It's definitely improved a bit since the beta. I'm no MMORPG expert, so the fact that it's so similar to Skyrim is a plus for me as it makes the learning curve easier. I'm still getting to grips with the MMO elements - have applied to join my first guild, so we'll see how that works out. I'm also happy to take it slowly and just explore lots. Not really that interested in how quickly I can reach level 50. I'm still at level 4 and completing the starter island quests.

They seem to have added some better items earlier in the game than were present in the beta, which should help with crafting progression. It's a bit  having to redo a load of quests I already completed in the beta but the fact that I know what to do in those quests means I can concentrate on getting to grips with other elements of the game.

    So far, so good.

  12. They had people from Esdevium there so games from their catalogue featured heavily - http://www.esdeviumgames.com/catalogue-2014/.

There were several tables with games set up and staff on hand to get people involved and guide newbies through the rules. I only played Discworld but it was a great way to take a screen break and get chatting to some folks.

I think 2013 was the first year for board games, but I think it will be continuing this year.

  13. It's inevitable for the major games and console/peripheral launches. If you aren't so bothered by those things (and that may be less of a feature this year now that PS4 and XBox One have launched), you can quite happily spend the day playing games that don't require you to queue much. I also can't stand long queues but have never found it a big problem tbh. They do make the effort to have a huge number of stations for the huge games. Oculus Rift is about the only queue that really tested my patience and that's because the game I ended up trying was a bit meh and the picture was blurry.

Next year, the event moves from Earl's Court to Excel so they'll have even more space then. That may mean more stations for the biggest games and with any luck fewer queues.

I should also add that, on the whole, it's a very friendly event with a diverse range of gamers. As a female gamer who is pushing 40, I thought I might be slightly outside the demographic for this type of show! However, there are loads of older folks (guys and girls) at this event and plenty of people who are willing to strike up a conversation in a queue or over a game.

I don't work for Eurogamer honest. I just think the event is great value for what you get.

  14. Early access has been out for Elder Scrolls Online for the last few days and is on general release tomorrow.

I've been playing for a couple of days now and am really enjoying it (also took part in the two of the betas too). I'm an ES fan but am completely new to MMOs so don't really have a clue about that aspect of the game. As a result, in the betas I just found myself questing rather than hooking up with other players so will need to try and break out of that.

  15. Going for the fourth year running. Have tickets to go with friends on the Saturday. It's really very cheap if you are a Virgin Media customer. Stupidly cheap for what you get.

I also bought a couple of extra tickets for the Sunday in case I feel I haven't seen everything I wanted to.

There's a lot to get through in just a day. Last year, I had Virgin Media early entry so was there from 10.00 - 19.00. Once you've knocked out a few hours spent in the big queues (last year PS4, XBox One and Oculus Rift were obvious biggies) and set aside time to have a couple of screen/queue breaks (the board game section provides some respite), that doesn't leave you with heaps of time to get round everything else.

The indie sections get better each year with the chance to try out alpha and beta versions of iOS, Android and PC games. You'll see lots of stuff that eventually makes an appearance on Steam, such as Prison Architect (they've had a presence at Eurogamer for a couple of years running so you can see the evolution of the game over time). There's the opportunity to speak to the devs of some of the games too, so it's a real antidote to the big boy stands.

The retro section is also a lot of fun and there's usually lots of hardware - PCs, gaming mice etc. to try out.

The queues can be a pain but the 10.00 early entry tickets do help and meant we got a good head start on the PS4 stand last year. We had that done by 11.00. We also used the Oculus Rift queue to do a lunch relay, which helped to kill some of the time.

I was tempted to get a 4-day ticket but my head was spinning after a day last year so I'm not sure I could take 4 days of solid gaming :D.

  16. On the verge of giving up tbh. I've tried setting player switching to manual, air balls and auto but it doesn't appear to make much difference. Even on manual, the players auto-switch. I'll switch to a player and a second later, the AI has switched play to someone else. It's leaving me in a complete mess when defending. Other people have reported that switching to manual has helped though, so not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong :(.

  17. I'm another one who feels there's something not quite right about the game.

For the past 3 years, I've bought the XBox version and have loved the way it played. This year, I switched back to the PS3 version as I'm planning on getting a PS4 and wanted to get used to the controller again. With that in mind, some of my difficulties may be down to becoming unused to PS controls, but time will tell. Also, I've been away so am a bit late starting the game. As a result, there are several aspects of the game that I haven't really got to grips with yet.

    Things I don't like:

    • Auto-player switching seems less logical this year. I'll make a pass to a player nearby but the AI doesn't pass control over to the correct player. Or, the opposition will make a loose pass, but the AI doesn't give me control over the player nearest the ball. I frequently start running toward a ball assuming that the player nearest to it will be auto-selected, only to realise that control is with a completely different player. Sometimes I manually select the player I want, only to find that they become deselected seconds later. The whole point of player auto-select is so that the computer takes care of the basics leaving you to master other areas of the game or invoke manual select for more complex moves. However, at present, it's making even the basic gameplay hard work and unintuitive.
    • I like to pass down the wings a lot, but this year I'm finding a lot of my passes are being played into touch. This could be down to the fact that I've become unused to PS controls or it could be that EA have tweaked the passing ability of certain players. I'm playing in Career Mode as a League 2 club at the moment, so maybe my squad just isn't up to the job. I may just need to adapt my playing style to the capabilities of the players on my team or improve my squad.
    • Scouting is overly complex. You scout a country and you get offered a list of random players to scout further. It's hard to narrow down who you want to scout further though as you aren't given much useful information on them. I preferred it when you got an overall rating and indication of their potential as a way of weeding them. Maybe I'll like the system more though once I've spent a bit more time with it.
    • Transfers again are too complex. I also couldn't work out how to later find a player I'd saved to my watchlist, but maybe that's me being an idiot. I really think EA need to make the UI much more intuitive around transfers and scouting. It's integral to the gameplay in career mode, but they need to balance the complexity and user experience with the amount of time you spend actually playing a match. At present, I spend more time navigating menus than anything else :(.
    • That bloody calendar - yawn. Waiting for the calendar to flick through the days seems interminable. Surely, they could come up with something to do while they are loading the schedule in.

    Things they got right:

    • Crowds. At last, the crowd look vaguely like real people. If you are going to go for realism in the gameplay and transfer system, then people are going to notice areas in the game where realism is lacking.
    • The weighting of the ball when your player makes contact feels more realistic.

I'm sure I'll have more to add once I've played the game for longer. It's definitely quite a learning curve though on previous years.

  18. So the general consensus is that LEGO City is a decent enough game with some irritating frame rate and load time issues.

I think every software starved Wii U owner out there can temporarily breathe a collective sigh of relief.

My feeling exactly. Long loading times aren't great, but at the moment I couldn't care less. I just want something decent to play on my Wii U :weep:. Right now, I'm starting to regret buying one, especially as I read something about a price drop this week.

  19. Multiplayer with one player on the gamepad and one on the screen really is amazing.

Rather surprisingly, out of the four games I've currently got (NSMB U, Sonic Racing, ZombiU and Nintendo Land) it's the one I've played the most.

I agree. I don't have ZombieU but have the other games you mentioned and I think Sonic beats them hands down. I'm finding it pretty hard tbh - definitely harder than Mario Kart. I keep getting blasted right near the end so go from 2nd or 3rd to 4-6th on a regular basis. It's a real blast though - great courses and variety of modes. I prefer the weapons in MK but think Sonic's courses are better - the MK courses are getting a little stale for me know.

I was on the fence about this purchase but it really is a top game. Not tried online yet as still working on my skills a bit more for now.

  20. Aggghhhh I could scream. Looks like my update didn't complete. Just hit the Wii Menu button and it asked to install another update. Looks like its a continuation of the first one. So I'm back to just over a third through and it's now been going for about two hours. What the hell is going on here? Looks like I won't get to play tonight at all and I'm out most of tomorrow. Not impressed at all :-(.
